I'm happy to ignore that she'll be hitting puberty soon, but I would rather her start on a roll on before she smells herself! If she's anything like her poppy....pew!
Sweet, thanks girls I'll grab some this week when i go shopping. DD does also have impulse to freshen up, but if they are caught with them at school they are confiscated, AND they are only allowed to have roll on (which i hate to this day still) but she may like it, I think they might be different these days tho?
My mama bought me 'mum' which was wet eww eww ewww made it feel worse IMO
Yeah, I was probably 12 or so when mum told me I needed to start using deodorant because the wet marks on my shirts went all the way down to my elbows... I had never even noticed :/ She used to buy me those icky roll-on things that just stay wet all day and mingled a powder scent with BO - gross!
There are some great stick deodorants out these days, I always go for ones with 'no white marks' (I wear a lot of black, but I also find it's great with white or coloured shirts as you don't get that residue everywhere) and I think Dove is quite nice - it keeps me pretty dry (I actually use it in combination with the Rexona Clinical Protection because I sweat like a huge dude even in winter :/ ) and smells nice. It won't get confiscated and won't be all sticky and wet... but from memory aerosols like Impulse were 'banned' at school too and every single girl I know had at least one can in her backpack! You just don't do dumb stuff like spraying it in front of a teacher lol, and if you walk into class reeking of it, just say you borrowed it off a friend HTH!
I noticed that both of my older kids needed to start wearing deodorant at around the same age as your DD.
It wasn't like they had overpowering teen/adult odour, it was just a more stronger smell than usual. I would notice it majorly when picking them up after they'd done sport or it had been a hot day out.
Their smells change a lot when they hit full on puberty - for my kids, this was age 12) but in the mean time I think it is definitely advisable to get them used to wearing some kind of deodorant. My DD1 uses the Rexona Girls stuff and it is pretty good.
One of the girls at work today suggested I take her to a Dr cos it doesnt sound normal? LOL, she doesnt have kids, i said to her that i think its the start of Puberty
Berenice - I'd say that was good advice from your teacher. We have casual staff at work that need the deodorant talk by the manager and they're ADULTS!
Glamourcide - I agree @ all girls have a can - DD has some body cream in her bag that she puts on during school hours too
Lisa - DD is the one who noticed it, I guess Im kinda lucky it wasn't one of the meaner girls at school or their probably would've been teasing involved! (sad to say but its true)

I know a friend of mine has never used deodorant, but uses normal baby powder for her underarms. Works for her, but it wouldnt for me.
I might also look for the little purse pack cans you can buy (impulse included) just incase.
A friend of mine also suggested to buy her a pretty purse and have a pad or 2 inside just incase her first AF happens at school (mine did). So i'll also grab one of those too
It's good that your DD is noticing her personal hygiene and wearing deodorant for sport when she would be getting more sweaty. That or she could just be copying what you are doing, or if she has seen peers doing it. Either way, I don't think it's a definite sign of puberty, unless she has also started growing underarm hair, pubic hair, breast buds etc
As a note - spray on deodorant is banned from schools because of the potential for it to trigger asthma attacks in other students. Most people think this ridiculous, but it is important to consider especially once they get to high school and you have 30+ students putting deodorant on in a change room after sport class.
I remember our teacher sitting us down before sports in Yr 6 and explaining that some of us had hit puberty, and we might wanna all start wearing deodorant, 'to prevent causing people to pass out in class'!
