Hope its not a taste of whats to come. I also have a 1 year old girl. As for school, I think its everything including school. Everything at the moment seems traumatic for her.
My DD went through a similar stage when she was 10... shocking! She has really improved though since turning 12... and starting high school. I don't know what to suggest as all girls are different but it's most likely a phase that will just pass... however one thing that did help with us was to calm down ourselves! (DH and I)... we tried really hard to make sure things didn't escalate, which they did nearly every afternoon at about 5pm for over a year! I also made sure she went to bed at 8pm (to read) and lights out at 8.30pm despite what she said about her friends' bedtimes! It's a time of huge growth and hormonal changes and they need extra sleep. Also limit sugar intake... that was a huge issue with us as it was about that time that she started sneaking extra sweet stuff into her diet without us knowing. Certain foods are calming like bananas so I used to make a banana smoothie for her afterschool. I don't think there will be one single solution... but maybe a set of strategies that might work... hope these ideas help! Goodluck!
I can also recommend a book entitled: How To Behave So That Your Kids Will! (or something like that!) Children at 10 still have moods based on their parent's moods. It's amazing (sometimes) how if you stay calm and refuse to raise your voice your children calm down too.
