Oh sweetie I am so sorry to hear you had to go thru this my Katy wasn't diagnosed with annecephaly until our 20 week scan and due to the fact she was failing to thrive and I was extremely unwell we induced a week later
ok with Katy I beleive the cause of her annecephaly was due to me conceiving before 12 mths after methotrextrate injection...so my story may be different...
but I was told to wait 3 cycles and to take 5mg folate...I have also been adviced to stay on 5mg folate for as long as I still get AF, so for years.. some new drs question this but I think its better safe than sorry...
I know the pain of waiting etc, but in the long run if it means you can avoid the same thing happening then a small break wont seem so bad
Flowerchild - no i didn't get my levels done, i questioned a few times and they said there was no real need. I was already on normal preg. vitamins for 6 months prior to falling pregnant and during the pregnancy. Have now been on 5mg folate for 8 weeks and also b12 & b6.I just have this line up of vitmans sitting on my kitchen counter
Rach - i can't even begin to imagine how that must have been for you, my heart breaks for you!!
My doc also said to take 5mg folate forever, after my d&c when he came to see me, i asked him how long i would take it for and he said something like the next 45,697 days... The specialist from the foetal medicine unit beleives i was just unlucky, due to my age and no family history, so fingers crossed i will have a happy story to tell such as your little Jack and the new bundle you're expecting soon.
I think we will wait the extra month, i just hate it when docs don't give you a clear answer. As when i questioned them both as to what to do if my period did not come back regular etc. after the d&c, they both said well then you'll be coming back to see us cause it means you'll be pregnant. And i was like but aren't i supposed to be actively trying NOT to get pregnant and all they do is smile & shrug?? Anyway i know only myself and DH can make the decision but thanks for your advice & opinions.
