    B6 overload?

    Hi ladies. On the recommendation of a few lovely ladies here, I've started taking Blackmore's B6 supplement daily, which is 250mg, and (trying to remember two) two Blackmore's pregnancy and breastfeeding gold each day, which contain 750 micrograms of B6 each.

    I hadn't considered the possibility until DH mentioned it, but is it possible to get too much B6? Hopefully a bit more than necessary isn't harmful. I'm taking it to hopefully help lengthen my LP, which I am quite sure at 11-12 days, is too short.

    Any advice, experiences, etc?

    Hi.

    This is the warning that blackmores gives regarding B6 toxicity:

    WARNING: This product contains pyridoxine hydrochloride, which may be dangerous when used in large amounts or for a long time. Pyridoxine-induced peripheral neuropathy is most commonly reported with doses of 1 g or more daily, taken for 2 months to 3 years
    1g = 1000mg = 1,000,000mcg

    So it looks to me like the doseage you are taking is well under this amount.

    As far as LP - 10-16 days is considered "normal" but 12 or more is apparently more ideal.

    Thanks for the response rayray I too read that warning, but the numbers were somewhat fuzzy in my mind, and I thought I'd just double check. I know there are plenty of women who fall pregnant with a LP of 10 or 12 days, but you know sometimes you just have a feeling about something..and if nothing else, appprently B6 helps to relieve PMS symptoms. DH was pleased when I told him that!

    I'm trying not to be obsessive about TTC...but it's difficult. I'm taking these, and am on the look out for macca powder. I've refrained from painting my nails because of some research I read about, and chose OJ over diet coke today. Hmm..obsessive or sensible?

    if it works for you Sometimes its what we believe will work, and what gets our body into the right state more than anything else.

    And once you do succeed - b6 is great for morning sickness.

    Hi Acria

    If you are worried about the B6 in supplement form - another good way that you can get it into your system in a more sympathetic way is through bananas, avocados and sweet corn if these are OK foods for you - as local and fresh as is possible - there are a lot of other compatible nutrients combined here that help balance and uptake the B6 in these foods.

    If you are interested or do not have a copy already - it might be worth borrowing/grabbing a copy of Francesca Naish and Janette Roberts' "The Natural Way to Better Babies - Preconception Health Care for Prospective Parents" - it has lots of very specific information about all elements of nutrients (including amounts and which nutrients need each other to work/which foods deliver them best), digestion issues (this is my area of problems), immune issues - anything you can imagine of concern in relation to pre-conception - I found it really helpful in clearing up a lot of things and in helping me try and hone my diet as strongly to support my system (and his) as I could. In the end I ended up with a great diet anyway - so the spin-off was worth it!!!

    Endless sticky vibes to you!
    Much love
