Recent miscarriage- can I join you?

    Hi Ladies

This seems like a really supportive board and I am hoping that I can join you. Here is my story.

After 10 months of ttc we were delighted to get our first bfp in July. At 7 weeks I started to feel different but ignored it. At 9 weeks I had a bit of red spotting so went to the doctor. I had a scan and they discovered that it was a blighted ovum and that the gestational sac measured that of just over 6 weeks. We were devestated- obviously.

Last Wednesday I went to hopsital and had a D&C done which all went well. Since then I have had light spotting which seems to have stopped today. I have hd no pain or discomfort.

Now for my question....my GP told me that D&C helps kick your hormones back to normal and that we can start TTC immediately. The first obstetrician I saw told me to wait 1 cycle before ttc and the second obstetrician said to wait 2 cycles. I am not asking anyone else as I am sure they will say 3 cycles!!!

As I am 36 years old and it took 10 months last time I am keen to get back to it as soon as I can- although I obviously want to avoid the trauma of another miscarriage if I can.

Mentally and physically I feel ready to go and am very impatient- especially since I will probably be away without DP in the UK for ov in my second cycle as my sister is having a baby!!!

Any advice will be gratefully received.
    Thanks
    Rido

    Hi Rido,

So terribly sorry to hear of your loss - of course you can join us.

Your spirits seem quite high and truly i think its more up to you as to when you are ready - you have to be ready emotionally.

I must admit though, personally I would wait for at least one cycle - just to give your body a bit of rest, let it heal and that way you will have dates correct when you do fall preg.

    All the best with TTC

    Thanks for your reply Kitt3n.
It certainly is inspiring to read of people who have gone through much more than me and are now pregnant or have had a baby.
I will see if I can hold off this month.....but I am not known for being very patient!
Hopefully it will happen quite quickly whenever I do start trying again.

Hi Rido, I'm sorry you have had to go through this. I had a natural miscarriage at 8 weeks and fell pregnant again straight away before I got my period back and everything is fine with this pregnancy. I couldn't find any evidence for why I should physically wait but I'm not sure if it's different after having a D&C.

Hi Rido, I'm terribly sorry to hear about your loss.

I had a D&C after we found out that we had lost our angel at 8w1d. My obstetrician recommended waiting for 2 cycles. He said that the main reason was to make sure you are emotionally recovered. But he also said that there can be a slightly higher risk of miscarriage straight after a D&C because the lining of the uterus may not have grown thick enough yet.

We decided to try again straight away though. Many people are highly fertile after a D&C, although I'm on my 4th cycle since the D&C and no luck yet (hopefully this month!!!). When I went for my post-op check 6 weeks later my uterus lining was already nice and thick though.

It's very important not to bd or use tampons etc for at lest 2 weeks after the D&C though. During the procedure they manually open your cervix, so there is a risk of infection until it closes again. After that it should be fine to start TTCing again. It took me about 4 weeks for my hcg level to get back down to a level where I was able to ovulate again. I hope it's faster for you so that you can start trying for you earth baby again

    Good luck!

    Hi Rido,

Sorry to hear your news. You have definately come to the right place for comfort and support, that sometimes others of us find trouble finding else where.

I have had 2 MCs (one month after the other). One at 5.5 weeks and one at 4.5 weeks. My GP told me both times to wait at least one cycle. I wasn't happy with that answer, as I too am quite impatient, so I asked him to refer me to a fertility specialist. This dr told me there was no physical reason to wait. However, I didn't have a D&C, so I'm not sure what the deal is.

I noticed you took 10 months to conceive. Were you charting your temp and cervical mucus? If not, this can be very helpful at pinpointing your time of ovulation. Also using OPK's can be very helpful. Of course they are no guarantee, but are definately more of a help than random BDing.

I would like to suggest you join the forum "TTC after MC or loss", if you have not done so already. There are a great group of very supportive girls there from all ages and from all over (America, UK, Aus).

I hope you conceive again shortly.

    Take care,
    Joey
