Can we get this thread going again ? it has been so quiet
Hi Trish,
I agree. We should try to get this going again. Its nice to chat to someone in the same position as you!
Love Kel
Kell = I saw your gorgeous website -your bubs are precious.
How does your back go ? My upper back has been aching - probbaly from leaning forward over computer ;)
Hi Trish,
My back is fine. I do get a bit sore at night when I get up to go to the toilet. It takes a bit for it so get going!! But during the day its fine.
All in all I feel pretty good. I have enjoyed this pregnancy a lot more than I did the first time with DD. Thats why I have hated going into hospital with threatened prem. labour. I dont want it to end yet!
How big are you getting??? My tum is quite small for 28 plus weeks with twins. But pretty big if you have to carry it around!!!
Do you know what you are having yet?
Take Care

Kel - :twinboy: for us -
My belly is average I think ;) - haven't got many in real life to compare too though. Did you see Kellyw beautiful belly - how amazing is that.
As long as bubs are growing well I don't think it matters.
I get terrible calf cramps in middle of night if I move my legs a certain way - have to get out of bed to relieve it and then I can hardly stand up.
Trish,
I think KellyW belly is amazing! She is amazing! I cant imagine lasting that long, and I am so jealous that she hasnt got one stretch mark! I got heaps with my first so what hope have I got this time.
Congrats on your two boys. I wouls have liked two of the same sex but desperately wanted another girl and DH wanted a boy so I guess we both got looked after in that respect.
I'll try to post some belly photos this week.
Take Care
Love Kel
I only made it to 33 weeks with my twins, and was stretch mark city, LOL
DH took a last belly photo before we left for hospital! They were 2110 and 2115 so good sizes. I am an "old" twins mum, so I am happy to answer any questions. ( I have identical twins girls who are 7)
Gee Vanita,
When you said you only made it to 33 weeks my heart skipped a beat. That is in a week and a half for me!!! I am getting pretty scared now. It seems so close. I hope that I can last until 36 weeks.
How much did your girls weigh in pounds and oz's??? How long were they in hospital for and were they ok when born???
Love Kel
They were 4 pound 11 ounces, and 4 pound 12 ounces. They had no breathing issues, they were in an isolette for 1 night, and then out in open cots, they had a bit of jaundice, but never went under lights. They didnt have 00000 around in the shops when they were born, so wore 0000 with the sleeves rolled up ( 00000 would have been fabulous) they couldnt suck, so were fed EBM through a little tube they put down their throat at every feed ( gavage fed) we had to watch their temperatures as they lost heat very quickly, so little beanies were a must, and blankets. They stayed in hospital 3 weeks, just putting on weight and learning to suck, They could have come home a little earlier if I bottle fed them, coz that was easier then BF, but I made them learn the hard way. It felt horrible at the time, but compared to so many others stories it wasnt too bad IYKWIM>
Vanita,
They were tiny!!! I cant imagine having to hamdle a baby that small let alone two. I am very excited to meet my babies. I still find it hard to believe that I am over thirty weeks and that they could come at any time. I have a few 00000 things but mostly 0000. I'll just have to make do with what they have. I intend on BF. I did with first DD and I loved it so hopefully I will manage with these two.
3 weeks in hospital isnt so bad. I went into hospital at 27 wks with contractions and the thought of staying with them for 10-12 weeks was scary!
I just cant wait though!!!
Love Kel
Kel - were the contractions painful ?
How are you now ?
Vanita - did you go into labour - they couldn't stop contractiosn or did waters break ?
I am getting lots of tightening - belly goes rock hard then relaxes again - especially since yesterday :-k
I had SROM ( waters broke) but they had been threatening to come for a week, was having some contractions, they did an internal and I was fully effaced, just tried to hang on a little longer, was trying for 34 weeks. Mine was all back pain, that was relieved by rocking, as aparantly thats one of the first signs of prem labour.
Trish,
I actually went in twice. The first time the contractions were uncomfortable but quite regular so I was given steroids for babies lungs and flown to Perth to King Edward Hospital. After they managed to stop contractions using Nifedipine, I was discharged and I had to stay in the metro area. Exactly a later I went in again and these contractions really knocked me around. They were coming every 3-5 mins and really really hurt. Both bubs were fine and again my waters stayed intact and we managed to stop labour.
Since then I have been fine just a bit of tightening every now and then. Nothing serious though. I am aiming at 34 weeks and every week thereafter is a bonus!!!
If your tightening gets any worse or regular, definately go in. Your doctor would encourage you to.
Vanita, I am dreading my waters breaking. I just want to go in at 36 wks and have them, I dont want any drama. Its too hard emotionally. When I thought they were coming at 27 wks I nearly died. It was awful.
Love Kel
Thanks Kel - I am so glad you bubs are still inside where they belong .. it is so stressful worrying ...
The tightening isn't painful and not regular just I definately noticed it has bumped up in numbers times per day since yesterday - even overnight I noticed a few times when I woke or went to pee ? :-k
maybe will call hospital tomorrow and ask midwives ?
I have felt very hour or so and maybe a few times an hour over the day- it just goes tight ... not sure what is normal though - did ask someone and they said everyone gets it but more so with twins - it is uterus contracting to increase blood flow ? or something like that
Maybe I am just more paranoid too and noticing it more - will write it down from now on to see there is a pattern /regular
Trish,
I find that when I sit down after doing things around the house that my uterus contracts afew times and also when I get up at night to go to the loo. I just think that its from the strain. Our bodies are under enormous pressure. Like my doc said "You werent designed to carry two!!" and I really believe this is true!!! Keep an eye on it and see how you go
Love Kel
thanks Kel
going to try to rest a bit more today and see if that makes a difference
how are enjoying Easter ?
Trish,
Well my best friends engagement party is tonight so I have been flat out helping her get organised! I should'nt be doing as much as I am but she is pretty special to me so I dont mind. I had a shocking sleep last night. I woke up a hundred times and tossed and turned. This has been going on for ages now. I wonder if its nature waking me up in preparation for when the babies come.
My husband does fly in / fly out work so Easter for us this year will be quiet as he is away. Never mind I will enjoy a champagne breakfast at best friends tomorrow (minus the champagne) and just relax relax relax!!!
Love Kel
Kel - LOL -I think so - like the toilet trips ... very few hours ... nature is preparing us just so we don't get a rude shock when babies come.
Hope you have a lovely night and let them wait on you ... you must be huge now (hope you're not offended).
I agree relax, relax, and relax .. don't spend more than 2 hrs at a time on your feet I was told ... at least one hour rest in between.
Trish,
No I'm not offended!!LOL! I'll be the first to admit that my belly is massive. Although I seem to have lost weight everywhere else. I have not put on any weight on my bum or legs, arms or anywhere. Which is great as I was so scared I would end up like an elephant!!!!
What about you?
I feel great and yes I will enjoy tonight! She is my bestest friend ever and I am so so happy for her!
Love Kel
kel- how did the engagement party go ?
Did you Chris's birth announcment -? her little bubs have arrived =D>
Hi Trish,
I did read the Birth Announcements. How exciting for Chris!!! I cant believe that I am 32 weeks now. I feel like I am so close now!!!
The party was great. We had a great night but later on Mia and I got a nasty virus and we ended up vomiting all day Sunday. I was so worried about the babies but they are fine.
How are you going???
Love Kel
I hope you and DD are feeling better now - I am going well -can't wait to see Chris's babies pics
I see Mia is just turned 5 - what a lovely age to me mummy's helper and dote on babies
Gosh I can't believe that i have been "allocated" some time to get onto the computer! It's been so long that I had even forgotten my password....just as well I write these things down!
Hope all is going well with everyone. Just a brief update from this end.
Both Joshua & Jazmina are doing fine. I can't believe that they will be 12 weeks tomorrow!!! How time flies. Feeding is still up and down, mainly 3 hourly, but that is pretty standard with bf anyway. We have had a couple of 4 hours but nothing consistant, so I'm not cheering yet hehe.
Thye are both stacking on the weight and have hit 4 kg =D> this is a major weight off my mind as Jack was forever in 0000, these guys are overtaking him, and good news is I get to do more baby shopping!
When they were 7 weeks old, they both had to be operated on (do they have to do EVERYTHING in pairs?) due to both having inguinal hernias which are life threatening if left untreated. We were operated on the day after seeing the paed surgeon, and it was on a Saturday. Apparently it is common in prems. While the surgeon was in there she happened to notice something amiss with Jaz's right ovary and did a biopsy which later come back clear (thank god) she was going to speak to a collegue about it but as we havn't heard anything, we are guessing it isn't sinister.
Jack is loving being a big brother and is (surprisingly) a big help (sometimes) for some reason he is obsessed with their dummies (he was deprived) and he can tell them apart even when I try and trick him by putting them in the some color grosuits with hats on (Jaz has more hair)
I think thats about it. I'm pretty tired most of the time, but am trying to get out at least once a day even if only for a 15 minute walk down the driveway and back.
Can one of you kind mods also please update my details.
Jo
Jo it lovely to hear how Joshua and Jazmina are going - I am glad they are okay after there operation. OMG first I heard about it.
do you twin feed ?
I can't believe it has been 12 wks since they were born.
Hi All
Just wanted to let you know that we are still around. We have had a bit of a hard time but slowly getting everything sorted out.
Hi Tam
how are Declan & Rylee ? It would be good to have some twin mums posting in here -given you have so little time - we understand how busy you must be .
Trish, you look as though you are travelling well.
Declan and Rylee are good. I am in te process of updating their website.
I was bf up unitl this week as they are not sucking well enough to stimulate my breasts, so we have just moved to bottle feeding and they are taking 180mls which is huge for them. Rylee is 4.5 kg and Declan 5.1 kg. So doing well but would like them to be putting on a little more weight.
In addition we have all been sick with head colds, ten the babies got oral thrush, which gave me nipple trush, which then gave me mastitis.
I also started back at work last week, for 4 days a week, 20 hours. I amin the office Mon and Wed and work from home Tues and Thurs. We have a nanny looking after the babes.
So that is it in a nutshell
Tam
that's fantastic you BF for over 3 months - bottlefed babes still do amazingly well. I am looking forward to seeing the updates of yout gorgeous babes.
I hope you are all well now.
Wow on going back to work - was it hard to find to a Nanny ?
What kind of pram do you have ? LOL I will be asking everyone now !
What is the best piece of equipment for a twin mum ? (I know an extra pair of hands would be most useful)
What wouldn't you buy again ?
Trish,
the best piece of equipment is a good bouncer. Not these new fandangled things but an old fashioned net bouncer. You can get them at toys r us for about $35 had one 4 the big twins and am sending David to get one 4 these guys too. If the babes are too small first up, roll a towel up and put it under their bums!
I second that, that and I borrowed a swing which was fabulous.
I third this:
Trish, yeah we are doing the tandom feeding thing. I'm finding it easier now, it was pretty difficult to begin with but I'm glad that I stuck with it. I did begin with feeding them seperately but was finding myself feeding all day, then I did one bf and the other bottle, but that made my boobs uncomfortable. Once I started the tandom feeding it was heaps better, especially now that I have got more confident with it.
Best bit of equipment????
Has to be my pram, followed by the washing machine hehehe.
Tam, you have done wonders bf for so long. Everyone in my household has had horrid colds, except me, thats something to look forward to! How much weight are your bubs putting on weekly? Unless they are losing I shouldn't worry too much, some weeks Jack would only put on 10 grams (yep you read it right) and while he was closely monitered, it was never a drama and he is now a healthy thriving 3 year old.
Jo
thanks for advice Tiff, Vanita and Clare about bouncer I saw them in Target catalogue too (but not with net) - every little bit of info helps
Jo what kind of pram do you have ? I have been seeing alot about Valco twin runabout
Trish, I have a adventure buggy which is made by phil & ted, it's basically the same as the mountain buggy. We looked at the valco but it doenst have adjustable handles and I found i was a bit stooped over it. There is not a lot about in the way of twin prams and they cost a fortune, we spent over a thousand on ours.
Trish I have the Valco twin runabout and I love it. The newest model has separate hoods and adjustable handle. I have the model prior to the current one.
Thanks Tam I think it sounds like the one to go with -from the people who have posted so far -
Hope you, Rylee & Declan are doing well and staying away from bugs and viruses.
Trish we are trying to. Actually things are getting much better, touch wood. They are getting into a really good feed, play sleep routine now which is great!!!
