I second, third and fourth a Doula...
Hi Peg
Most doulas only take a couple of clients per month so the odds of her being with another client when you are in labour are minimised. Many of us also work with a back up so that if this happens, you will still have support.
I've been a doula for a while now and I've never had a situation where I've had two mums in labour at the same time. It happens I guess (babies aren't really very predictable!), but I don't hear of it alot.
I totally agree too! It was the best money we spent too! We also had a long labour - starting with my waters breaking at 11:20am on a Saturday with delivery the next day at 4:57pm. I was determined to have a natural childbirth, this didn't happen, I ended up haveing pethidine to sleep during the night; and requested an epidural at lunch time on the Sunday because I was exhausted. However our doula was very very supportive the whole way through. I don't think I would have lasted as long as I did if it was just my DH and I. She helped me remain focussed on the job, so while labour was painful, it was less painful when I was focussed then when I allowed myself to become involved in the things going on around me.
If anyone wants a recommendation for a great doulain SE Qld PM me.
