OP i got mine for free!!!
A friend of mine is a qualified doula but also studying midwifery so needs to follow through women as part of her course
If you are interested i can ask her if any of her friends need women to follow through still or she might be. The level that i have her involved is up to me.
Otherwise you can contact somewhere like ACU or other unis that do midwifery to see if there are students in your area suitable

Plenty of women who employ an Ob also employ a private midwife, and many Obs are open to that, as the midwife knows that once she steps into the hospital she is a 'support person' without a midwifery hat anyhow (but still the knowledge which is useful )
I have seen that work well before, and one of my current clients has both me and a middie to go to her hospital with her for her current care model. Her ob is open to that and happy with it (lucky eh - as it is her choice )
I think that you can expect to pay anywhere from $1000- $1500 to have a MIPP see you once or twice before birth, to attend the hospital, and see you once post-natally, and anywhere from $0 - $900 for most birth attendants to support you with usually many more contacts than that. Costs seem to be based on experience, travel time, being on call etc etc.
