A sign of things to come...?

    Just wanted to share...

I caught up with a friend on the weekend, first time I have seen him this pregnancy. He's a recently graduated doctor. One of the very first things he said to me was "Please, pleeeease tell me you've got a doula."

I don't! We've got a student midwife joining us on our journey. I was just so blown away by his comment; he is the most medical of medical people, and I LOVE that he recognises the improved outcomes that come with having a doula, and I wonder if this is how our newer doctors are being taught. Fingers crossed, hey?

Sadly, he's not going into obstetrics.

    How awesome is that...
We were at the airport going to Adelaide and there were a group of women obviously talking about a friend of theres and they were all 'gossiping' about their friend and a doula, how they had never heard of it before etc etc.

I wasn't really listening in just heard doula and then them kind of laughing about it... there are still so many women who have no idea what a Doula is, would be great if GP's could promote them along with the hospital info they provide.

I personally had no idea what a doula was until one of the MG girls sister mentioned she was becoming one...

Shame he's not going into obs, hey? But he'll be a great doctor anywhere. Some of the replies to this were lost - no he's not a hippy whack job. He's one of the most conservative people I know.

My SIL and her hubby were bagging out someone from their antenatal class for being a "birthzilla" They made fun of her birthing choices (which were quite straightforward things, like having lights dimmed) and for having a birth plan at all and they referred to her doula as a "donger" Classy, hey? But there's a whole other massive vent about that couple...
