I don't have much advice regarding the possibly weaning, but I will say from around 7 months my DD (who I was so fortunate to have sleeping through by then) decided to wake up several times a night, and always at 2am, for extra feeds, and has only just stopped doing so recently now, almost 2 months later. We're doing BLS, nothing had changed with her day BF's, I think she was just going through a growth spurt/wonder month/whatever you want to call it, and needed more milk. I gave up trying to 'fix' it and just went with the broken nights sleep again, and it has passed, for now anyways!
Babies really don't self-wean at that age - it would be very unusual. However it is common for babies to take to solids a little too quickly and reduce their milk intake by too much too early. One of my DS's did this too and then started waking often in the night as he really needed the milk he wasn't drinking during the day. When this happens mums usually find that dropping the solids back for a while works to increase the bfs again, and then just slowly increase the amount of solid food again.
Thanks for the advice everyone, she slept through the last few nights but we've been able to give her a 100mls of milk at morning tea time, but she won't take more than that. We'll keep trying.
