Bumpity bump!!
Is it customary to give a gift for 1st communion? If so, what would be appropriate for a boy? I've seen the christian gifts at the place that sells bonbonnieres and baptism things and they're all sickeningly twee. Any ideas?

It's a tradition in our (Catholic) family to get a pendant.
Don't know if you're near a city, but most cathedrals and the like have stores nearby.
The pendant I bought my cousin's firstborn has St Joseph on one side, and on the other "I am a Catholic, Please call a priest" on the other side, in silver.
Otherwise a leather-bound prayer book or bible is appropriate, and masculine.
Good luck in finding something!
I know a few places to buy these in either Melbourne or Brissie if you want![]()
In my family, for our First Communions we were each given a nice watch. My godson had his First Communion last year, and I gave him a nice hardback book of Bible stories. As Kazbah says, a pendant could also be a nice idea.
