Completely off track to the way that you are thinking but the first thing that popped into my head was a double pass to 'Gold Class' at the Cinema. I think without the food etc it would start around $80.00. We got given this as a gift when I was pregnant and it was wonderful. Big comfy chairs, really small cinema, no idiots in there because what idiot would pay $40.00 to see a movie in Gold Class. They have a bar and a menu - You can order whatever you like before you go into the movie and tell them what time you would like it to be served to you in there and that is exactly what happens. We had drinks to begin and then 1/2 an hour in we shared nachos and then towards the end of the movie I had a choc-top delivered and DP had a coffee. We had a really good time and I'd love to do it again.
Pity your DH isn't enthused by the supercar ride - my DH just did this the other weekend for his 40th b'day pressie and loved it. He has it all on
USB. Got to drive 7 laps and ride with an experienced driver for the other 4 laps.
If you hop on sites like red balloon and so forth, they have a lot of ideas for 'experiences' (such as the supercars)
What about an experience voucher. Red balloon, Freeman X all have many options of what to do from V8 super car drive or be driven, sky dives, hot air balloons, aerobatics flight etc etc.
I would suggest a Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb but it looks like you are in Melbourne
You could always look for an airfare sale combined with a last minute 5 star hotel deal, and get away for a night or two. This of course relies on you having babysitters handy.
If he's the sentimental type what about getting a beautiful photo of the kids blown up on canvas or metal? I think its nice for milestone birthdays like a 40th to have a present that can be kept forever
This thread is right up my alley. DH turns 40 in a couple of weeks, doesn't want to do anything and didn't like my present ideas. A supercar ride was on the list, hot air balloon, tall ship sailing. All kinds of things. So hard to buy for.
