I think being asked to bring a plate is rude. Every shower for anyone I've ever thrown I've made all the food. It's like saying buy me stuff, cook for me coz I'm having a baby. Baby showers aren't just about presents. But if you EXPECT them then I am sure as hell not going to bake you food as well.

The irony is I always offer, but when asked or its assumed I find that rude. And generally it's no.

I think her behaviour shows a distinct lack of tact and it is very presumptuous.

If she was a close friend, I would call her on it (politely of course!). If she is an acquaintance, I would decline the invite saying I can't attend.

It is always bad manners to expect people to bring a plate if you have invited them to an event. If they offer, then that shows a generosity of spirit that should be either graciously declined or thankfully accepted. It should NEVER be expected.
