I'm not sure Rachel, i've been wondering the same thing...
The godparents we have chosen would see the fact that we have chosen them as a 'gift' itself... but i guess it depends personally if that would work for you.
Good luck, i'll be keeping an eye on this thread too.

hey rach, best thing to do would be to contact your church.

Most Catholic churches insist that the child being christened is dressed in all white. Otherwise I think smartly dressed for a little prince would be fine

We bought a small gift for ds' godparents and we got them personalised candles with the date, etc and a picture of ds on the front, and a personalised poem to each godparent on the back

I have been a Godparent twice now and havent recieved a gift from either set of parents. I hadnt even thought about it till you mentioned it but I do think it would be nice to have a momento. Must put some thought into it now for when we have our little girl done.
Who are you choosing as godparents? Are our siblings a good idea being that they are already family members and close to the child anyhow or should we choose friends who are like an addition to the family? My godparents were friends of my parents but I havent spoken or seen them in years!!!

Good one Danni! I like that one -

Rachel the poem idea is fantastic - memento's like that are always special - because even though it's just 'words', it's words that you feel reflect the people you have chosen and what special role they will play in your child's life... Oh i love that idea!

Saz - the best idea is to choose someone you know will be "around". We decided not to go with family as both my brothers are under sixteen, and DF's sister is a little 'snot-faced brat' (charming anthony!). As for extended family, aunts, cousins, etc - they either weren't old enough, weren't exactly supportive of the pg in the first place, or just not people that speak to us at all in general.
We figured that with our ages friends were a bit risky, but the ones we have chosen have been a great deal of support to us throughout the tough times we had last year, also have had very catholic/religious parents themselves, and we knew that they would be the sort of people who would 'appreciate' such an opportunity, iykwim.

depends on the church and what requirements are for dress of Jack.. We gave our godparents momentos of the day for being godparents to our kids, nice photo frame and card.

it is catholic and because of his age we use a stole thing they sell versus a bib thing they use

would you know where you go the poem from??

if our token catholic godparent had fallen thru I would have used my sister and her hubby I like you had friends of my parents I met my godfather at his brothers funeral when I was 17 haven't seen him since and my godmother dont think I have seen her ever, if you are close to you sister/brother etc why not use them

the frame idea is a great and easy one especially if you get a photo of jack and the godparent in each one.

I wrote my own poems for each of the candles. I have it in a thread here somewhere ???

When I was asked to be a godparent, the church gave us a certificate. I think it was gift enough just to be asked!

Yesterday at Jensen's baptism, the godparents got the certificate from the church and a wallet photo of Jensen from us.

Jensen is almost 7mths and he wore a cute lil outfit - matching top and pants (white with a lil giraffe on it). What you have planned for your baby sounds heaps better than what one of the godparents turned up in

    Have a great day!
