    Christening donation to church.

    Hi all.

We are finally getting around to getting DD christened/ baptised.
The church states that they don't charge a fee but people usually give money donation. I have no idea what an "appropriate" amount would be.

What do others think or what have you given? We just want to know what others have done to give us some idea.

    Hi

We gave the church a donation.. Our baptism was not part of the normal Sunday service so no collection plate was going around..

We decided to give $150.00, about the same as what it would have cost us to hire a celebrant to perform a naming ceremony.

Some people are not able to give a donation at all and it is exactly that a donation.. Your donation could be flowers left in the chuch after the christening or helping out a coupld days if they need.

We donated $200 to the church when Charlie got baptised. We too weren't given a figure, just told that a donation was customary, though not essential. We donated $400 for our wedding so figured that $200 for a baptism service that also had 3 other children being christened was fair for our financial circumstances at the time.

We are getting Mason christened in the catholic church next month and also dont know how much to donate.

I read in the baptism magazine that you should donate something similar to what the celebration afterwards is costing you. Unfortunately we cannot afford all of that twice!

Then when we went to the info session last week, they said perhaps you can donate what you get for an hour of your time at work. But that is only around $20?

    SO Im really confused

Charlie was baptised in a Catholic Church, Danni and truly, my sweet, it's what you can afford. It really is voluntary, not compulsory, and I'm sure any donation would be welcomed.

Danni I'd agree with Sushee, any donation will be gratefully received.

I think they suggested an amount to us which was around $100.

When Mackenzie was done we gave $50. That was nearly 3 years ago - I wonder if they take into consideration inflation!

Thanks girls. Its confusing cause it is what you can or can't afford but at the same time you want it to look like a good amount.
Thanks for all the replies, I think we'll be looking at $100- $150.

when eliana was christened we were told we HAD to give a minimum of $200 - now we are getting elysia at a different church cause we have moved & they said that most people donate a bible or prayer book with their childs name in it - so a big difference!
