    If the wedding is in a Church they generally tell you what the "expected" contribution is, what you choose to pay, at least in my experience, is another matter as you put it in a sealed envelope and hand it to the Priest.

    If you are happy to pay whatever they ask, ring up the Church offices and enquire (or ring up other Churches and get an idea of whats the norm)

    Still, if they said $500 and I could only afford $100 then thats all I'd pay.

    I know for my cousins child's Baptism the nominated amount was $250.

    Yeah that. I think ours was about $500.

    I suppose $500 makes sense seeing that is what a celebrant roughly charges and the church is its own location as well.
