    Ebay Payment Advice

Hi fellow ebayers, I was wondering what types of payment methods other ebayers are accepting. I mainly sell to older people - over 50's and a couple of months ago I received alot of complaints about which payment methods I was accepting. At the time it was only bank deposit or money order. Under major reluctance I agreed to offer Paypal as alot of people had requested it and claimed that they don't have internet banking, couldn't get to the post office for money order and couldn't access my bank as branch deposits aren't available in all areas and they wanted to pay with a credit card. I don't even have the first clue about accepting credit cards so I thought my only way out to get my sales back up again was to go through paypal. Everything was great to start with but I am selling at a very low profit margin through Ebay and now with the paypal fees, I am barely breaking even this month. Is anyone else having the same problems? i have tried adding auction conditions to my listings clearly outlining the payment conditions but still have the same problems when the auction is finished. Alot of people also want to send personal cheques which I don't accept, for 2 reasons 1 they may bounce and 2 it costs me 60cents to bank them each time. I'm not sure what else to do. It seems many people older than 50 are very wary of internet banking and don't have any intention of using it, but it's sending me broke. I'd love to hear if anyone else has found a way around this and I apologise if anyone takes offence to this post as I know that Ebay is a very competitive market and sellers don't appreciate being asked for their secrets.

    Best Wishes

I only accept DD or a money order and haven't had a problem... yet. Oh one complained cause I was with a bank that only has branches in SA so he couldn't walk into a branch in sydney to deposit money, so had to use his Woolthworths easy banking account for so he could do it online or some story like, and he cost him high fees. So i basically said you should have thought of that BEFORE you bidded.

Hi, thanks I've tried just about everything that I can think of. I even started stating in big bold writing that I only accept DD but then seem to constantly have problems with people paying. I've had so many ebay disputes because people are claiming that they don't use internet banking and can't access my bank. I went off at one person recently and told them to go to their own bank branch and request a transfer but all it got me was negative feedback and they actually wrote on the feedback - not enough payment options. I just can't seem to win. I do believe that it's because I am dealing with older people who are against internet banking but other than paypal I'm not sure what else I can offer people.

They dont have to go to your branch to deposit the money, they can do it from their own branch! Just takes a couple of days to transfer it over.

Hi, I've tried all this and it's not getting me anywhere. My buyers just don't seem to understand that they can go to their own bank. Either that or they don't want to pay the fees. My bank details are going through Ok on the invoices as I get replies back saying " I got your bank details but I don't do internet banking and we don't have a branch of your bank here so I'll be sending a cheque, where do I send it to" - this is typical of the messages i get after the auction has closed. I've even tried stating on the auction conditions that walk in branch deposits aren't available and to only bid if they have access to internet banking, I sold my item but for a quarter of the price it would normally go for. It's starting to really get me down because going through my books, I'm going to be out of business within the next month as my profits have dropped so much because of this paypal stuff. It's really confusing to me because some payments come through with no fee attached while others have huge fees taken out. I don't understand any of it, lol. Oh well I guess the 2nd income even though it was only enough to buy my luxuries was great while it lasted but we'll have to do with out it. Thanks for your all your help.

Hi, I've been selling for about 3 years now, but only started with Paypal approx 6 weeks ago. My first transactions with paypal were fee free which I thought was odd as I have a business account with them. It may just have been a promotional or Newbie thing though. Good news though, another member has contacted me and made on offer on my Ebay business as they'd like to work from home. I was a bit surprised at first, but after thinking it over it's a more than generous offer and I'm going to accept it. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders, lol. I'm not out of pocket and I no longer need to worry about the stress, lol. Thanks to everyone for the help and advice.
