    Any Phlebotomists here?

Can I ask what part time job prospects are like in this field? And what is the pay like?

I'm being made redundant, and I'm taking it as a positive thing. Kinda like the universe giving me a much needed kick up the bum to finally leave the industry that I'm in and follow my dreams.

I'm thinking of doing a phlebotomy course and working as one part time while I do my midwifery degree. But from memory phebotomy courses aren't cheap, so would it be worth it? I'd hate to shell out a few grand for a course and get nothing out of it!

    thanks in advance

I used to work in pathology for a little while and pay was about the same as a RN/div1 which is what I am but they tend to prefer to employ div2/En's cos they don't have to pay them as much, I didn't have to do any courses so I don't know how much they'd cost. Are you already working as a nurse? There's always jobs going for this in my town, but not sure what it's like elsewhere- you could always do I job search to see what comes up.

thanks for your replies Em & Ahurani,

Nah Em, I'm not an RN. I'm looking at doing a direct entry mid degree, however doing a BN first then a post grad in mid is still a path I'm considering. Actually, am I imagining this, but I'm sure I read somewhere that once you've completed your first year of BN you can often pick up weekend work in hospy's etc as an EN while you finish your degree? Does that sound right, or am I off the planet? lol

Yeah Ahurani, they're expensive. The Mater in Brisbane runs a Cert III in pathology and it's $3300 for a 5 week course mg:

Really? seems we're getting ripped off here in the eastern states then. . .Perhaps I should bunk over at my IL's in Perth for a few weeks and do it there, Lol
