i was at the shops today waiting for the car to be serviced. usually at the shops its a big rush from here to there to get home with 2 kids in tow. however today as we had nothing to do but wait we sat out the front and i noticed a whole array of people from differnt walks of life. there was one lady in particular who started talking to us. she had a 3 month old son and the lady had some kind of developmental delay or possibly some kind of mental retardation. she was soo lovely and excited to show me her son and tell me about him. i was thinking that she was a little out of her depth with him or needed help with him just by talking to her. a few minutes later her mum came over and man oh man she was a cow to her!! the ladies mother constently snapped at her to do this or do that for the son. she spoke to her appallingly and the lady was trying sooo hard to do the right thing and please her mother. i felt sooo bad for her.
this leads me to think.. is there an occupation out there that helps and supports women and families who need a bit of extra help due to disability or family cirumstance with day to day skills and knowledge with their babies?
it is something i would be interested in looking into but i dont know where to start? i am not a nurse, and i have no interest in becomming a nurse however i do have an early childhood background.
