Ok, I have a financial background and have done bookkeeping for small business. If you do not know what you are doing then you are better off paying for a bookkeeper. They really do pay for themselves in the long run. You are better off spending your time growing the business, making more money or saving money in other areas. It may take them 5 hours to do what would take your 20. Do the math, what is your time worth compared to what you pay them. Use your expertise in the right areas and bring in experts where you do not have that expertise. $25ph is very cheap for a bookkeeper, well I am assuming that you are referring to a contract rate, in fact I think too cheap.
One option you can do is bring in a bookkeeper for the short term and get them to show you how to do your books and set-up systems. It would be helpful for you to do some courses on bookkeeping and one on MYOB. Another option is moving across to Quickbooks (I prefer it), you may find it a bit easier. At the end of the day though you need to know some accounting basics to know what you are doing in the software.
Some TAFEs or adult education do short courses in MYOB and basic bookkeeping
If you plan to keep on doing this, you are better off doing a basic course and finding out the fundamentals so you can do it right.
Or you can pay a book keeper for a little bit to show you how to do the basic stuff like input data, reconciliations etc, and save the complicated stuff for the accountant at the end of the tax year.
I'ved used MYOB at work, it isn't so hard to use once somebody explains the general set up to you, and then it makes sense about what your putting in one side of the account, and deducting from the other.
Beck - PAY someone. This job is too important (and too stressful) to get it wrong.
I'd do the course at the same time, so you can maybe get the hang of it as you go along.
I paid a bookeeper even with a tiny one-woman business and it was WORTH EVERY PENNY.
You don't want to make a mistake that might cost you heaps more than $25 an hour xoxoxoxo
I dont know how old this request is but if you are still wanting to know about MYOB I can help you. I will also be doing a video website on each of the MYOB functions on how it all works all free.
