I am so angry at the moment.... weeks ago we made arrangements to hold the baptism reception at the ILs because they have a huge shed which would allow for the 40 guests to be seated for eating as opposed to squashing everyone along our back patio and having to clear out the livingroom to set up food. Well ILs and DH have decided that we only need one small section of the shed, which isn't that much bigger than our back patio. I'm so p!ssed, I'm thinking of just changing the recption back to our place and telling everyone at the church that is the plan.
I'm so p!ssed I can't even talk to DH about it any more as I'm
Greer is screaming - altitude disease I think!
3.37am and Greer decided our day would begin, I tried to keep her quiet and get her back to sleep, but 4.47am and big brother is up as well. DH will be laying in bed thinking he'd like to get to sleep in past 7am for just one morning on his holiday.
It's now 5.20am and Logan has every light on in the house so it seems. Greer has started whinging again, so with any luck now she will feed and go back to sleep. Unfortunately I won't have the same luck with getting Logan to go back to bed.
I really didn't want an warly day today, I'm skipping mothers group this week to go to morning tea at work for one of the girls who leaves this week on her maternity leave. Especially looking forward to going as it helps the declutter as I've been passingon the baby clothes to her.
Morning all...well...after our failed experiment with the sleepy sack thinger, my fella went a little out of wack....slept for 3 hours yesterday til 2pm....then held off as long as he could (well, as long as I could hold him off!) til 5:20pm, slept til 11:10, had a bottle, back to sleep til 6:15am.
Was back in bed at 9am which is back on schedule...he copes so well when I muck him around.
BW on the tooth surfacing. Might just be the teeth causing the upset to the routine as opposed to the sleep sack. Might be worth trying again.
Sleep deprived today as Greer has only slept whilst travelling in the pram or car today . She has had altitude disease, or a the very least can only be put down if you sit her, which I don't like to do as she is only just getting unassisted sitting control this week. I finally had had enough of the constant grizzle and feeling like that I took her temperature since she'd scream when putting her on her back to feed and was fussing with feeds - temp is 37.1. Noticed her grinding this afternoon and she seemed to be chomping on hewr last feed. She shuts her mouth tight when Bonjela or Panadol come near so I'm struggling. I am hoping we have a tooth surface soon and that the temp is because of teething, for she seems happy otherwise. She was great after her sleep in the pram this morning, just not good on her back or sleeping. I think we'll be in bed early tonight. All of this is not helping with getting organised for Sunday
Grubi, is it possible she has an ear infection?
Im sure you know already but one of the signs of an ear infection is not sleeping well, and laying down causes crying (due to fluid movement).
On another note, we aren't doing sitting up...BJ will learn to sit from crawling...
BW - I asked on the other thread about teeth, but I see that question's been answered here! ha ha
Grubi: on the altitude sickness.. that must really suck!
Hello to Sarah, Sharon & Shell!
Just a quick update: Liam's nearly crawling. He gets on hands & knees and rocks - then tries to launch himself. He's managed a 'step' every now & then, but is still getting frustrated with it!
Tonight we finally had some success with solids! I baked a sweet potato in the oven wrapped in foil (*****ed holes in it and washed it first), then cut it open & scooped out the good inside bit (left the discoloured outside bit) and mushed it up with a spoon. Then I put small amounts onto my finger - which he gleefully put in his mouth. Once he discovered the taste - he was gobbling it up. That was, until he put my finger too far in and it hurt/was uncomfortable - then he got grumpy, but he was very tired too. However, I am very encouraged Will try again tomorrow - but am hoping the sweet potato doesn't clog him up like it did to another bub I know...
I reckon he's just gone through a wonder week as he was very unsettled and threw his nighttime routine out the window. One night we were still getting him to bed around 11pm! He's beginning to re-establish his day-time naps (was 3 a day, now seems to be heading to 2 a day). However for the last 2 nights he's done his normal routine of going to bed around 8.30 pm and only waking up once during the night. He normally 'wakes' for the day around 6.30 am... I'm ok with this as I get up and spend time with him before heading off to work at 8.30 am.
Just a quick question BW, how come you aren't sitting BJ up and are getting him to learn to do it from crawling? just curious... Nettie that is great that you are having success with solids, and OMG on Liam nearly crawling, Oliver is showing no signs of getting himself onto his knees yet, what a clever boy you have. alittlegrubi Jordan hated the bonjella as a baby too, actually he still does, he doesn't like the tingling/stinging sensation, however he has always LOVED taking medicine, like panadol, nurofen, anti-b's, Oliver hates panadol, think it's because it's cold, but he is taking his anti-b's for his cough OK (sometimes)
Not much happening here, Oliver is adjusting well to his new routine which goes something like this:
6.30 b/fast
7.30 bottle - 100-170ml
9.00 bed for about 2 hours
11.00 lunch - vegies
12.00 bottle - 170ml
1.00 bed - till we leave to get Jordan from school
3.00 rusk for afternoon tea
3.30 small nap when we get home about 30 mins
4.30 dinner - vegies
6.00 bottle - 170ml
6.30 bed
10.30 bottle - 170ml (sneaky feed)
Nettie, I always forget which thread I see things in when I respond! (the logical thing would be to go back and look I guess!)
Sharon: unfortunately for me, I've had lots of study and training in child development, and was always taught (way back in high school too actually), that it is better for the child's development for them to push themselves up to sitting from crawling, partly as a control thing, but also because oftentimes a child who can sit (and this is of course not always), will often become stationary, in that, they will be happy to sit and watch the world go by, rather than trying to get to things of interest (which can eventually lead to them finding crawling harder because they can end up with a little more weight on them form not burning off calories). Also (and this is just a passing observation based on kids I've seen at work) children will often fall forward and faceplant when trying to go from sitting to crawling (if they learn to sit first) which can delay thier attempts to crawl cause it can be associated with pain.
But thats just me and what I've been taught, if others are happy for their children to be sitting, thats great (especially if it makes life easier for them..Im never gonna argue with that!!)
How's Oliver's cough today??
Benjamin's Routine is pretty solid...(slight variations when mummy stuffs him around, or with teeth but basically:
7-7:30 Wake
8:00 Cereal
8:45 Bottle (usually between 150 and 200ml)
by 9:00 Sleep
11-11:30 Wake
11:30-1-1:30 floor time (or car time if we are out!)
1:30 bottle (between 150 and 200)
1:45 sleep
3:30-4:30 Wake
Wake up time - 5:00 floor time
5:00 Vegies
5:20 Bath
5:40 Bottle (220ml)
by 6pm sleeping
Just before his first tooth came through he was sleeping form 6pm til 7am, but since the tooth, he is waking about once a night again (sometimes twice, but lucky for me the first is usually while I'm still up), wakes are usually 2:30 (100ml of milk, or sometimes just the dummy settle him back again), the second is usually around 11pm if it happens
Most likely next week or the week after we will start as Sharon has and introduce some lunch in that middle of the day bit, that will probably push his sleep out a little bit to about 2pm or 2:30pm
Grubi: How's Greer today? I hope her altitude disease has settled, and she's a much happier little munchkin.
BW it's not just that Greer doesn't like laying down, she doesn't like being put on her tummy, in the rocker anywhere but at our height. She is fine between the first and second morning sleep and sleeps in 3-4 hour blocks most of the night, so I don't think it is an ear infection - but I could be wrong.
We certainly aren't sitting her too often, she still has a way to go before I'll be letting her sit for long periods. The only time she really gets to sit is in a highchair in restaurants. I agree with you about the faceplants.
So far this morning we have been okay, but I'll let you know if she gets worse during the day. However, today is supposed to be used to clean up for the after party for Sunday, so I might be palming her off to my SIL.
BJs waking sound just like what Greer has been doing, except that the 2.30 is now 3am and she wants to play, got her back to sleep after 45minutes this morning and she woke just after 7am.
SharonGreer will take antibiotics too, I think it is the taste that she doesn't like of panadol and bonjela.
Must get my ass into gear and start trying Greer on solids, so far just rice cereal, think I said before SIL suggested holding off until after the baptism just in case she reacted to the foods. As it happens I've held off, but not for that reason, just haven't gotten there. Naughty Mummy!!!
Hi Grubi altitude disease sucks huh?! Hopefully she gets over it soon!
Im off to the Pregnancy, Babies and children's expo here in Melbourne tomorrow, really looking forward to it.
I've been every year for about 7 years now, last year I was pregnant for it which was cool, mum and dad came up for the day last year and we went together, this year mum is in Tassie, but my dad is catching the train up to come with me which will be great!
My boss is a certified infant massage therapist also, and they have a stand there so we will be able to catch up with her too.
DH gave me spending $$$ WOOOHOOOO!!!
Anyways, I'd better get going and do some washing and stuff then get BJ's tea ready and pre-prepare ours also!
Catch you all later!
Yep - altitude disease is the worst. I'm starting to think that maybe I am misreading cues or something. Greer was better today, think my own tiredness isn't helping and of course the stressing over all the arrangements for Sunday. I so don't ever want to arrange home parties ever again! Hopefully the next big events in our lives are the kids 18ths
Enjoy your day tomorrow BW I'll be cleaning at the ILs for the party, buying all the drinks, ordering dessert and setting up the tables.
Today Greer was kicking and waving arms around trying to get to those toys during her tummy time, but she doesn't move at all and ends up frustrated and cries so I have to help her roll over as she isn't even doing that herself
BW thanks for the info on the sitting, had never really thought about it before but it definitely makes sense.
I have updated my pics with a pic of each of my boys, but the one of Oliver is a real laugh, you have to check it out, the descriptions exlpains all LOL
Hey Girls,
Just popping in for one last time, to say goodbye
ATM I have a lil bubba in pain, so im unable to type it all up again, so you can find my goodbye thread here.
Just a quick update - Liam is crawling. Not constantly and efficiently yet, but crawling nonetheless. If it's short distances, he sort of commando crawls, but for further distances, he puts his head down and kicks with his legs (gonna get carpet burns on his forehead for sure!)... very cute!
He's supposed to be asleep right now, but I can hear him 'singing' and playing in his cot. He's been doing this occasionally. Once he whinges, I'll be in there & get him re-settled. But for now he's happy...
Not much more success with the solids. He only had one taste on Friday and didn't want any more. Even though I didn't want to try sweets before savoury, I'm thinking of getting some apples stewed & trying him on that - just to get the ball rolling.
Good job on the crawling!!
In our house we've reached that "lovely" stage where Benjamin knows he should be able to move to get things, but hasn't worked out how, and assumes yelling about it will help!
He rolls straight onto his tummy, but then kicks his legs like he's running (pretty damned fast too!) and can't get anywhere!
He's also changed rom pooing every second day, to every day in the last two weeks....I liked every second day better!
He had half a weetbix for brekky today (just mixed with boiled water...he never took to his rice cereal mixed with formula so I didn't bother). It went down a treat I can tell you.
If his eczema doesn't flare up in the next 4-5 days, I'll start making with with cows milk.
