Shoegal it's amazing how much you have to pack for a little baby just for a few days away.
I am just about ready to shoot the dogs next door, AND mine, it seems like every 5 mins they start barking at something, and everytime they start barking it wakes Oliver, it is really starting to pi$$ me off. Today started off really crappy with Jordan not doing as I asked when he was supposed to be getting ready for school, Oliver decided he was going to have a screaming session, and we where running late, and things have just got progressively worse, I only just managed to get Oliver to sleep since he woke up at 7am and if the dogs carry on the way they are he won't be sleeping for long which means he will still be tired and VERY cranky. Well, what do you know, there he goes, I had better try and get him to re-settle.
DD has chicken pox. At least that explains why she has been hurling for several days. I hope DS doesn't get it. Although I don't think babies get it generally, and todders get it very mildly - so I hear.
My lagging brain can't think what cream to get her either. I won't use calomine. Any suggestions?
Ate cabbage last night and won't be doing that again. Had a horrendous night with poos and grunting from 3am.
Janine! :rofl: I know what you meant, but it sound slike YOU were up til 3 grunting and pooping. ehehe. Why not calamine? If not that, I reckon anything that would be anti-inflammatory would be good. Maybe some pawpaw ointment or some tiger balm? I always put t.b. on my bug bites, I think the clove oil in it kills the itchies. Hope your DD feels better soon.
Sharon- :hug: I don't know what to tell you, sounds like there should be a dog-b-que in the neighborhood shortly. Have you tried slinging him? It is kind of hard on the back after a while, but he'll at least get a good nap and you can get some stuff done?? Lila has quit mucking around, she's getting quite good at draining me but I'm still pumping and giving her bottles. Like a security thing or something. I enjoy her nursing, it actually feels nice and that kind of freaks me out a bit. I'll get over it.
SG- It might well make it fattier. My milk is pretty thick atm, but that might be from all the eggs and bacon I can't help but have. Human milk doesn't need to be incredibly fatty, in fact I think I have read that as your child grows your milk gets thinner and its perfectly normal. Your milk is the best thing for him, it has everything he needs. It seems so odd and impossible to believe but its true.
Ness- Happy birthday to your little girl, hope you are doing alright.
Sarah- Hang in there! He's still so little, just keep telling yourself that it won't always be this way. Tell yourself that over and over and over again. You're taking such good care of him, he needs his mummy all the time and you're there. That's so important to them.
BW- :hug: Its hard, I can't imagine how hard tipping out all that milk but kudos to you for doing what is best for your little one. Hopefully the problems with upchucking will clear up.
I'm well and fine, getting so much done lately and am really upbeat. My house is so nice and clean, ridiculous how happy that makes me. I used to be such a slob. Next week DH is done with exams and will be able to take Lila for an afternoon or two a week so I can get back to writing.
Lila is going down around 10-11pm and up again 4-5am which kind of ****es me off since she used to sleep til 8-9am. I know I should count my blessings, but I realllllllllly liked sleeping for long unbroken periods.. I think she's getting ready to do a grow cause when she gets up she guzzles like 150-200 mls and goes right back to sleep for a few hours.
My lovely SIL just had her baby yesterday, a little girl. We're all :dance: here. She had a hard back labor like I did, ended up taking some pethadine after 24 or so hours and then two hours later had her beautiful baby girl. Its such a relief, we both have our babies healthy and safe. Ever since I found out she was expecting too I have worried that something might happen to one of us. We're thrilled to death she had a little girl, but everyone was kind of pulling for a boy since there have been three births in our family in the past few months and all were girls. No little boys yet in that generation. Two more births due later this year, maybe then. Heh, 6 babies in one extended family in a year. What an effort.
Has everyone heard about those poor little 18 month old twins in Brisbane who died of starvation? Before I had Lila those sorts of stories used to upset me, I would think it was terrible but now that I have my own soft, sweet, vulnerable little baby those stories just rip me to pieces. Like they could all be Lila. I guess its that "mother's heart" you hear about. I wish I could take in all those neglected uncared for children and make them cookies and read them stories and give them nice warm baths. Not right now though, I have to just focus on one...
LOL janine... you cracked me up with your comment on the cabbage. i know you were referring to Ci with the grunting and pooping... but I now have a mental image of you grunting and pooping at 3am! Babies can get chickenpox, but as long as you have immunity and are breastfeeding it would be a very mild case.. if at all.
ETA: Steph, I just saw your post! That story of the twins makes me so very angry too... I just cant fathom how someone could be so evil.

We're doing ok here. DH & I are reverting back to our sharing of the night feeds so on Tuesday night I had 7 hrs sleep! I would say 'uninterrupted sleep', but I was woken when Liam was hungry - just didn't get up, DH did! Was lovely! However only got about 5 hrs last night because I got to bed around midnight, then DH did the 2.30 am feed and Liam was grunting from 5.30 until around 7 am when I got up & fed him. Then I put him back to bed and expressed some milk, and while I was doing the 'wash up' from that - he woke up again and I was up with him for another few hours so I never got back to bed :( I'm having an early night tonight!
BW - hope BJ feels better soon!

Ness - Happy Birthday to your DD! Hope DS cough gets better :(
Janine - my favourite herbal remedy book says to use 2 drops tea-tree & 2 drops of lavender oil in a lukewarm bath for chickenpox. You can also use compresses of cooled chamomile tea to ease itching. You can also use oat bags in the bath - put a handfull of rolled oats in a muslin bag and put in the bath - squeeze it until the milky liquid comes out and dab it onto the 'pox' - carefully so you don't bust them. You can also try witchhazel lotion on them - but kids can find that it stings if the 'pox' have burst. You might find something of use in that lot!
I'm very pleased to have managed to wash the kitchen & toilet floors today! I haven't done that since before the birth (WAY before!). We sweep the floors regularly but don't wash them that often - they don't need it a lot anyway. Even still - we usually wash them more often than THAT!

bellelass I have a bubba moe sling, and he hates it, thought I was putting him in wrong etc, but another one of the mums at Jordan's school, who is an expert with slinging showed me how to do it properly and he still hated it, I have tried it on and off again over the last few months and unless he is asleep when I put him in it he hates it. As for those poor twins, I just can't understand how the parents could let them starve to death, and then to just leave them there for one of their other children to find, that older child is going to be traumatised for a VERY long time, it makes me cry, and very very angry.

Nettie I'd love to get around to washing some floors around here too, I usually sweep every day or every other day, and vacuum about twice a week, but the last time the floors where washed was about a week before Oliver was born :o
Going to lunch with DH tomorrow, so that will be a nice change, Oliver was a good boy tonight and went straight to sleep at around 6pm but i'm not surprised since he didn't sleep much today at all, he is showing signs of being just like Jordan was, don't think I can go through that again, as I never managed to get anything done at all.

Can you let april babys know Bj is in Hospital. Had a lumbar puncture, bloods and urine, he has a urinary tract infection. In hospital for 24 to 48hrs.
If i hear anymore i shall come in and let you all know.

He is off to have an ultrasound in the morning to rule out any blockages

I'm looking into buying a video camera (I suppose they're called DVD Cameras these days!) so we can start taking video of Liam. He gets so camera shy and doesn't like to smile or play when the camera's on him so hopefully we can set up the VC to take footage while he's not looking! ;)

Sharon I have a whingy dog nextdoor that I want to kill. Would think Oliver would be used to dogs if they were like that when he was in utero. How are you going these days? How is the oldest DS situation?
Belle I'm not as heart wrenched by the twins story as I am by stories in which the mother had no control over the fate of her child. In this case I am callous and think why have and keep the twins if you couldn't provide for them?
MGM we have had colds, vomiting and poos here. Greer is so stuffy in the early hours of the morning all I can hear is her having difficulty breathing, so I have decide to delay the cot transfer until she is better - damn immunisations putting a spanner in the works.
As for me - I make a conscious effort to look after myself on Wednesday - it felt good - then it all went out the window yesterday. I weighed myself last night and am 2 kgs closer to my prepregnancy weight - and I haven't even done much to try to loose those extra kgs.
Gotta go and attend to little miss whingy.
BW, did you see the suggestion to donate your milk? If it's not too late?
i just noticed how i wrote that post about grunting! :lol:
DS is SO bloody jumpy, it's ridiculous. i thought he'd grow out of the startle reflex, but it's getting worse. If he is laying on his back, the whole time he is gasping and throwing his arms and legs out. He has taken to thrashing his legs wildly, it seems to soothe his desire to startle.
I got a new ergo today. But he is too small for it yet. His legs need another cm or so length to wrap around my waist for it. I can't frog leg him in it either, cos he gets all cramped up. The problem with bigger babies is they fit bigger slings but can't hold their heads up quite enough for them yet. It's an awkward between-slings time at the moment, where the HaB is outdated for him now.
He just fell asleep so I'm off to attempt another go at the cot. My back is absolute RUBBISH now. I can't hold him anymore through naps, at all. I'm a wreck and DH is not far behind. :( Woe is us.
Hi everyone! BW sorry to hear about your little boy, hope he gets better soon. Took ava-jayde to get her needles today. When she got the oral one she was fine smiling and laughing at the doctor. THen with the needles she screamed LOL then i cried poor little bugger. but after she had them mummy gave her a big cuddle and all was well again. The doctor told us that she is the most well behaved baby she's ever seen and couldn't believe how well she was doing! So im quite proud of myself for that. Hope we are all doing well and our bubs are giving mums a nice break every once in a while.
Hi all, didn't manage to get back in yesterday. Have had a lovely day today shopping and lunching. It was great to get out and do something. Luke was great apart from lunch when he decided that he wanted to be awake and cuddled. hard to eat and cuddle. We too had our needles this week. He took it all pretty well, was drowsy and cranky afterward but seems back to normal now.
BW hope that BJ is getting better and that you and your DH are coping OK.
Sharon hope you had a nice lunch with your hubby. Hang in there with Ollie. I have noticed that Luke is much less interested in sleeping during the day now... I find it really frustrating because he ends up so exhausted at the end of the day that he goes down hard between 4 - 6pm and then wakes up at 2am for the day to start again... grrr...
grubi hope she settles down soon so that the cot transfer can occur. I am dreading moving from the cradle to the cot as it is so easy to settle him with the rocking. Starting to do some naps in the cot to get him used to it!
Nettie jealous of your night swapping with DH - I have gotten my Dh up once to help me give luek some panadol and I got "Oh, but I am so tired"...

Sound like we all have a cold in out house hold somewhere. Wyatt has just gotten it. It went through DD, then DS then Me now Wyatt, so DH is next.
I had another melt down yesterday. I just can't seem to settle Wyatt in his bassinette during the day for any longer than an hour. It doesn't help when DS runs around house yelling. Someone tell me they have had the same as me and it GETS BETTER SOON...
So who else has moved babies over to cot? I am waiting on out builder to come back and do kids built-in before I change. Which hopefully will be in the next 2 weeks. I fear if Wyatt keeps eating the way he is he wont last much longer. I know its another string I have to cut, and let him grow up but he is SO big already I want the NEW baby. (3 days old)
Anyway I better go, DD is watching TV with Wyatt. He'll want some boobie, a wrap and back to bed soon.

oh my goddess what a night. kill me now.
dd cried all night bar the hour b/w 2am and 3am. so itchy with pox. she has them where the sun don't shine too... not fair. ds didn't poo in the wee hours (heh, wee hours, should be called poop hours). at least i was blessed with that.
BUT!
we have an invention! dh bought a chair hammock that looks like this , attached to the ceiling on a spring - it bounces!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can bounce him, and lay back in comfort! True geeeenyis. I may go into business with the AP version of a bouncing hammock. :lol:
I've also had some success with transitioning to the cot, for those in the same predicament. The wonderful suggestion of the lullabub may have helped, although we haven't actually put him in the cot without it so it could be coincidence. But it is really mild, you couldn't call it a cot rocker, it makes the mattress sound like a heartbeat, that's the setting Ci likes best. But I did a whole naptime package, and phased it in slowly and gently, like Pinky Mckay suggests.
I started by playing a rainforest track at naptime on repeat for a couple of days, but napped him as usual in the sling and bounced him to sleep. Then I played the track, put him in the cot with the lullabub, and pulled him out when he got upset for a few days, bouncing him and slinging him again. Some naps were actually taken in that time, but short ones of about 20 minutes. Then I did the whole thing but this time when he woke I resettled by rocking the whole cot (that's the best feature of the lullabub, you can rock the cot like a cradle cos it's on special cushion feet!) and patting and giving him my finger to suck, removing it before he fell asleep completely, no bouncing. He slept 3 hours - the longest nap since he was a newborn.
I read giving heaps of sleep cues is helpful, then you can use just one of them in an emergency and it have the same effect.
Anyway, I'll keep you all updated on how it goes. I'm happy so far, and it's been gentle, no cry, which is important to me.

hmm I havent yet made the transition to cot, she sleep in her bassinet in the cot though. She still has plenty of room though.
Have tried putting her in the cot and she doesnt like it grrr.
I am having a slight prob that is driving me bonkers though. She is such a on off type with regards to the breast. Plays around so much gets a good let down pulls off and i have a huge squirt going. even if she is staring she pulls on and off all the time. But she still only feeds every 4 hrs and goes about one 5-6hrs streach over night
Ci hates my letdown, Beatrix. he also does the on off thing too. ABA said it could be slow flow, even though the let down is fast, my general flow could be slower than he likes. Not sure, but it is annoying, esp when he reefs right back before he pulls off, I swear my nipple will go one way and I'll go the other one day! Sounds like she is doing nicely though, she might be getting more than it seems with her method.

WE ARE HOME!!!! Im ooo glad to be home.
Bj is sleeping happily (I say happily cause its been an hour, and noone has woken him to check his obs!)
The hospitla looked after us really well, and BJ is expected to be fine. He has a course of Antibiotics for a week then he should be good.
We just have to make sure whenever he gets a fever from now on, we go straight to the Dr for a urine sample, as once you have one UTI you tend to be prone to them.
As for the breast milk, there is nowhere in Victoria for it to go, the ABA, Royal Children's Hospital, Royal Womens and a few other places have all said, that at this stage, in Victoria, unless you know someone personally that can use it, it will go to waste.
They are trying to organise a Milk Bank in Victoria but its currently caught up in red tape.
In the grand scheme of things though, I'd rather have my little man healthy, and the milk down the drain than anything!
I'll try and do personals over the next couple of days, just gotta wash a bucket load of bottles, do the washing, the housework and the groceries...oh yeah....and get BJ back into some assemblance of a routine!
Glad you and your babe are alright now BW. Hope you can get back into a rhythm without too much trouble...
Kira- Meant to reply before, but I don't drive. I can't drive and besides we have one car... I'd be keen to meetup sometime, it would just take careful planning from my end... le sigh.
Tried Lila in the shower today and while she didn't hate it, she wasn't all that excited about it either. We're good, she drained a breast twice today which is good for us. I figure soon we'll be completely on the breast. There aren't any other problems, I'm hoping its smooth sailing from here on out. Getting about 8-9 hours of unbroken sleep at night, then she naps a bit during the day but only in the sling. She doesn't mind being left on the change mat in the cot half naked to air for a few minutes at a time, I come back to see her and she's chatting to the stuffed giraffe. She drools really heavily, esp the past week, no way she could be getting ready to teethe already?

sarah sorry things are so frustrating. we only get short naps around here lately, too. and that's with dd in the sling. something seems to be waking her before she's ready. sorry, no solutions - just sympathy!
am very proud of myself because dh was out last night and i bathed both kids, put ds to sleep (while jiggling grumpy baby) and ate dinner (while slinging sleeping baby). then the weirdest thing happened - at about 9.45 i put swaddled, grizzling baby down on the carpet while i put the sling on, then noticed she was content so left her. her eyes opened and closed for half an hour or so, then she fell asleep, just lying there on the floor! very strange for a child who usually insists on being rocked to sleep. unfortunately the transfer to bed did not go well, but i was very impressed nonetheless. my theory is that dh's absence made for a calm, quiet, sleep-inducing atmosphere in the loungeroom!
time for ds's dinner so must go now. wishing you all a wonderful night!
Sarah- have you considered seeing a chiro about the fussiness on that side (unless you already have) may have a slight adjustment needed.

Well after my postabout her being fussy she just did a great feed on the side she is most normally really bad on.
Can i just say how much i love the baby drunk look they get when they are full!!
Aah Bj is back in fine form.
Im soo proud of him, he moved through his ordeal so smoothly!
Since coming home he's had 2x3hour naps (settling himself with his dummy etc), 2x110ml formula (maybe a tad more), his medication, a GREAT playtime (he's usually only up for an hour between naps, unless we're in the car), played with DH after his bottle, sat in his rocker while we ate dinner (I picked him up a couple of times but he was then happy to get back in it), then had a play in his little house (playmat with toys hanging over top and a little roof on it), AND the cat (bless her little heart) let him pat her a few times over about 10 minutes! About an hour and a half in total, then changed, wrapped, dummy in and settled himself again...
Oh yeah, and how ironic is this:
Bj was in hospital for 48 hours getting treatment and getting better...then I wake up this morning with a cold....all those germs in the hospital...I hadn't left there since thursday!
Oh well...with a bit of luck it won't last long!
I don't mind as long as BJ stays healthy.

MGM - Liam's done the same thing with laying quietly and going to sleep - but I just don't know how to replicate it! I'm guessing it's just a matter of timing? Love to learn that secret - I can tell you!!

Belle - Liam didn't "love" the shower at first either - he looked kinda scared to tell the truth, but now he absolutely loves it and cries when we take him out (he'd stay in all day if we let him - but there's something called a drought?! ) Give her time and she'll probably love the shower!
To reassure everyone - Liam only naps in the day too - sometimes only 10 - 20 mins in the bassinette. But when we pick him up again he's straight back to sleep - just wakes up when we put him in bed! Sometimes I'm lucky and we get and hour or so - but not usually much longer than that during the day.
I'm keen on any cot-transition tips as we went to IKEA today and bought the cot (yay!) - now we've just got to put it together ;) wish us luck! we'll try to have a go at it tomorrow! Also went to Harbour Town and got some cute clothes! Got 2 jackets from Pumpkin Patch that are adorable! One is furry on one side but is reversible and has musical notes & symbols on the other side which I just love! MIL also went and bought him heaps of clothes including one that says "I fart like my daddy" - ha ha ha. :cryinglaugh:
If Liam isn't awake by 10 - I'm going to bed! Just in case it's his 'sleep through'. He didn't get much sleep today though because we were in and out of the car and sling in town... so hopefully he has some good sleeps tonight!

feeling lost - DH has taken Luke to his parents for the afternoon. So far I have packed for my trip (Luke and I going to QLD tomorrow to visit my nan), had a sleep, cleaned up and now I am playing on the internet. Having a lovely time, but starting to miss my little man!

Ci woke up crying this morning, half an hour early. He did a big poo so maybe that was it. I have bicarb on his head cos his cradle cap may be infected with a fungus as he is itching it like mad - fresh blood every morning.
He gets SO restless around dawn, it drives me nuts. I just can't imagine how he'd be if he was in his own bed at that time, I'd be up and down for hours. Yesterday's naps were shockers. Maybe we'll strike a good day today then.
Fire rosa does the same thing around dawn - kicking, thrashing, then a big poo. Sometimes I manage to resettle her after; sometimes not. Either way she sleeps very lightly in the morning and the slightest noise or movement wakes her up. DS was exactly the same. He's a heavy sleeper now but it took years... That cradle cap sounds bad. Isn't it caused by a fungus anyway? I cured Ds's with an essential oil/almond oil blend from 'The fragrant pharmacy' that's kind of an all-purpose mix for babies.
colds, colds, colds, we all have them, and as soon as someone gets better they catch another one. i am SO tired of them!
We had to go to the doctor this morning after a weekend of snuffly noses, power chucking every other feed and generally needing to be held constantly. Greer has a temperature of 37.8 today and has been given a course of antibiotics, doctor said if she doesn't improve with those within 48 hours to take her to the children's hospital. It always seems to be that we notice the illnesses in this house late Sunday when you really only have emergency rooms to go to and I try to avoid that.
Because she is sick she is sleeping so I'm off to get some things done around the house before I have to spend hours holding her.
Hi Sarah how is Wyatt doing? Molly is going well, i have had 2 good nights in a row so i am hoping that this is the new pattern! We had 8&1/2 hrs and 7&1/2hrs so if we do continue like that we will be very happy.
