Thanks Mel, I guess as the bubs get older we will have to get use to them sleeping less. Poor Ali being woken at the Drs but glad that your scar is ok and that now you dont need to waste the time your DH is home going to the Docs.

I slept from 10 til 1 yippy, Thomas makes so much noise....wonder how long it will be before i heave him out of my room. He resettles himself really well but at night i want to shut him up quicker so i try sticking a boob in his face, he then has a bit and we both fall asleep together....then he wakes and starts settling himself again but i already have the boob out so think he has just come off LOL then i look at the clock and its really been 2hrs LOL..... Where as through the day i hear him then before i can get to him he is asleep again........ Poor little man, he'll be having nightmares about boobs soon:p

Grace is due home from kindy soon and that means mum and dad will drop eve off too..... quiet was nice while it lasted :)

Very tired & having big probs trying to get Tobias on the boob. Milk still there, cant pump any out anymore, he wont attatch either. I can still squeeze a bit out so happy milk hasn't gone. I called ABA but no meetings until the end of this month so about 3 weeks to wait, hopefully wont be too late by then.....

DD started swimming lessons today, I didnt have her enrolled through the colder months as she misses too many pre paid lessons when sick. Of course this year when she wasn't enrolled she didnt get sick but had I enrolled her she would have been sick for sure.

Tobias needs to have his belly button checked & his left hip. The ECHN came by & they're the things she wants double checked by a doctor. She said she didnt know if the clicking noise was coming from his left hip or knee so best to get checked. His belly button is sticking out a bit more than normal so needs to be checked. I also need to get a referal for circumcision (sp?) which needs to be done soon.

We're going out to dinner tonight for my birthday, I think MIL may have asked DH what we're doing for my birthday which reminded him about it, he mentioned it for the first time yesterday even asking what I wanted for a pressie, cutting it a bit fine as its tomorrow but oh well. So we're going out with his family, I would have preferred a nice quiet dinner out alone with DH but this will be nice aswell.

milly , nix is au naturel , we never even thought about it really ... but my sister got her boy done , i guess its a personal decision.. tbh i dont like the look of a baby boy's winkie that has been snipped.., i sleep with a boob out too ... but i find when she is next to me she sleeps for hours , and so far during the day she sleeps in the papasan cradle the swings from side to side ... so i am yet to get my butt into gear and find some settling routiens .... (did you get my pm ??)

i cant tell if gabby has wind or its colic... she screams after a feed , i tried a premiee dummy and a nuk , and wont take either . finally i have come to the realization that shes just not into dummies...

so to restore the calm , she goes on the boob again ... is it ok to let her suckle on my boob and not be feeding ?? am i doing her more damage , creating more pain ?? or am i creating a rod for my own back ??

Hi girls,

Well, we are doing pretty well today. Went to the LC clinic today for some more help with bf. It was good. The LC I saw was the same as who helped me with Lily. She's really nice and helped me with some basics that I was doing wrong and it has changed everything! So hopefully this will be the end of my tears at feed times.
DH is trying to not give Lily milk in her bottles tonight. He's been weaning her off it, slowly putting water into it. I don't think it will change much, she'll probably just wake for water instead, LOL! The mchn referred us to the early support team for her sleeping to try to make things easier for me when DH goes back to work. She's coming on Monday, hopefully with some useful strategies.
I had about 4hrs broken sleep last night. I tried Liam in his cradle, so that DH could sleep in our bed for a change, he's been on the lounge since we came home cause he wont cosleep with the kids when they're so little. But I would like to get him into the cradle.Liam's day sleeping is atrocious!!! He's just not settling without me. He won't sleep in his cradle unless he's really dead asleep when I put him in there. Maybe I should ask the sleep lady on Monday. Luckily I got to sleep this arvo. I was seriously falling asleep when feeding Liam a few times today. We slept for 3hrs. And it was blissful!! Especially as today has been really cold, rainy and miserable in Sydney.

on wed i spent the whole day in bed .. it was soo nice , just me and gabby ... and then yesterday we all went into brisbane to ther dfo and shopped for about 5 hrs ... i really needed some new clothes so we went there , i know i will lose a bit of weight between now and summer but i really couldnt hang oiut in maternity tackpants till then !!


gabby is windy one too.. we tried happy baby newborn size but she just gags on them , so i'll try the premmiee size , or avent ....maybe even the nuk shape ...she needs something i get no sleep , i want to help her ease her pain by letting her suckle but she'll drink more and make it worse... i can her her tummy gurgling and i hate seeing her wince in pain :(

charmalea - Ah 5 hours of shopping, what bliss. What do you do to feed whilst you are out and about?? So far I haven't been out at the shops when Chloe is needing to feed. Today I visited my mum at a conference that her company was holding so I went upstairs to her hotel room to feed chloe (was held in a hotel) but wondering how to do it if I'm at the shops. Tomorrow I'm going shopping for new clothes, I'm in the same boat as you, everything I have is stretched, well mainly shirts and I want new jeans and shoes too. So if I'm gone longer than 2 hours, which I'm betting I will be then I'm wondering what to do about feeding Chloe..

For the wind, have you tried INFANTS FRIEND.. It is ok for use with newborns and is a natural product. I use it with Chloe as she gets bad wind and upset belly and it calms her down really quickly and she nods off to sleep. Check out the name dot com dot au for more info. Chloe's belly does the same think you described, gurgles and she screams in pain pulling her legs up. When she can manage to pass some wind it helps but otherwise I feel helpless.

Lea - i have the nuk newborn dummy for alicia and she happily sucks away. its the only one she took to of all the brands. Ali uses it to fall asleep on but then spits it as she converts to the land of nod ....Nice effort going shopping - DFO is great i love the sydney one ... hope you found some good stuff ....

Belinda - sounds like you have a nice little sleeper there - 11 hours wow!!! Has scott gone back to work yet ??

We are going ok here. Really getting frustrated at the whole no driving no lifting things rule when I normally am so organised and have everything done ... hard to learn to rely on others so much .... DH working hard but hopefully home early today so I can go to dr otherwise waiting for weather to clear and i will walk down. Ali had sticky eye as well and nurses said the same about breastmilk as it is full of natural goodness !!!

Ali doing well - 4 weeks old next monday on dates cant believe how quick it is going. she feeds every 3-3.5 hours like clockwork and is gaining weight nicely. this morning she has been a little horror though. i feed her at 630 and she still not fully asleep she gets herself to the point of sleep then wakes up again lol ... aaargh lololol one of those days today ....

hope everyone going ok today. is everyone stoked about fathers day - i cant wait to spoil dh on his first one !!!

melsta - I'm going to get a Nuk dummy tomorrow. Chloe likes her Happy Baby ones but she sucks the absolute %%%% out of them and they have all gone flat. Maybe the nuk might be able to withstand her sucking.

Yes Chloe likes her sleep. Was really quite confusing at first as LC was saying at least 7 feeds per 24 hours, some were saying wake her every 4 hours, some were saying leave her to sleep but now I'm leaving her 6 hours max at night and then she is happily doing her 3-4 hours during the day and then wanting a feed. She really has been very good to us on the sleeping side of things. Granted I have only slept in my bed about 5 times since coming home and the rest on the lounge but that is fine with me for the time being. Easier for me to get up to her in the loungeroom and not disturb hubby.

Danielle_M HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!!

US - Not much to report. Today we made a trip into the inner suburbs to visit my mum at a conference her company was running. She was proud and got to show off her grand-daughter so that was good. She was really good in the car, our longest car trip so far. Didn't cry on our way in and only a few little cries on way home until I pulled over and stuck dummy in. She was very well behaved.

Tomorrow we are trying a shopping trip for clothes for myself. I am kinda excited as really need some new stuff. Especially t-shirts. All my normal ones are stretched from my belly so don't look flattering. My jeans are fine as I wore my normal jeans the whole PG just used a belly belt but they are old ones anyway so going to plurge on new ones. Also need some new casual shoes. Didn't bother while PG as I had swelling in my feet and legs and didn't want to get wrong size that wouldn't fit after Chloe arrived.

Then in the afternoon we have some family coming to visit who haven't seen Chloe yet and then a friend is coming over for a visit so that'll be lovely. We really haven't had many visitors since we've been home. Hubby goes back to work on Monday so then it'll just be the two of us. Happily though hubby generally finishes work by 1-2pm daily but has an early 4am start.

Hi Girls...

I've noticed that most of you were following my pre birth story, for those that don't just a quick run down from me.

My waters broke on Aug 13th, at 31wk + 1 day gestation. 15 days later I developed an infection & went into labour an hour later. My little boy was born on August 28th, at 33wks + 2 days. He is still in the SCN & will be for at least another couple of weeks.

I developed mastitis Thursday night & was terribly sick yesterday. I had a fever of 38.7 & boy did I feel it. My right bb felt like it was gonna explode. Now it's the nipple that's creating me grief. It's got tiny little bubble looking things on it. I'm not sure what it is. I will get the nurse at the SCN to check it out today. It's sore.

I'm looking forward to sharing our journey's in motherhood. This is my first baby so it's all a little new to me.

i use to work in NICU so i can imagine all the ups and downs you are facing at the moment. Hope your little man can come home soon!

Lea & Kel: thinking that thomas is getting thrown out of my room tonight! just too loud, into the crib and his own room might help me....feel bad for him though as the girls were in our room for much longer... i just cant be bothered listening to him att night and now that grace and eve are showing some promise i want my sleeo LOL

Kel: get you on the cleaning, everyone keeps telling me to stop too but i feel better if the place is clean so surely that is better than a messy house and cranky women!

lea: yes got your pm.....sorry no reply :) i have always been one to give my bubs free rein on my boobs, i have never found that they over eat or it makes it worse, i have only found that i stress if i listen to people say they are on too much or if i wonder whats wrong, rather than except they are in a boobie faze.... they can suck without making the milk come out.

Lea, yeah our washing pile has a life of its own. I just can't find the time to clean much at the moment. I'm sturggling with time, even with DH here! I have no idea how I will do it without him. Today has been a bit easier, for both of Lil's sleeps, Liam has been sleeping too, so we have had time to clean, though can't do any washing since it's raining cats and dogs here.

Georgi, welcome!! I have read some of what has been going on for you, though have not kept up. I hope your little one grows strong and healthy quickly.
I have mastitis too. Had fevers of 40degrees. And my bb was soo hot and sore. It is absolutely the worst feeling isn't it?? I hope you're on the mend. Be careful it doesn't come back though, it is apparently a very easily recurring infection.

Milly, I wish I had space for Liam to be in his own room, but unfortunately we live in a 2br unit. I don't want to put him in with Lily yet cause she has her own sleep issues, so he's with us, well me. I'm cosleeping at the moment and DH won't sleep with us, so he's on the lounge, by his own choice! I do wan't to put him in his own bed, but he just won't sleep there for long. His sleeping is pretty bad at the moment. I have someone coming to help with both of them on Monday.

We have had a pretty good day here. Lily and Liam have both managed to time their sleeps at the same time today, yay!!! I hope it stays like this.....not getting my hopes up though! But it has been a miserable day weather wise here, which always depresses me.
DH is trying to wean Lily off her night bottles. She did well last night, with not too much crying, hopefully tonight will be the same or better!
Ok gotta go, going to mums for dinner, yummo!

belinda, i fed gab in the mothers room , they have comfy couches or gliders to feed in , but today i went shopping ( YES AGAIN... but i swear this time it was for fathers days gifts :lol: ) and i fed gab in the cafe and on a couch in the shops and walking around office works :lol: it can be daunting trying to feed when your so new to breastfeeding and still not fully confident , but i have a bunny rug over me if im in public ... just remeber its totally natural and your feeding your child , so no need to feel intimidated ... just wear clothes that are easy to accsess ....

gabby is in the middle of colic hour right now ... i dont know if its colic / reflux or newborn behaviour ... she woke screaming from her nap and dh burped her , then she screamed just before she pooped .. then fed like there was no tomorrow then spewed it all up ... then screamed and arched her bag , pulls the legs in .. and spews and burps .. now has the hiccups ... now i have to change her suit coz it smells like spew and i dont want to be smelling it all night ..

milly , i have been giving her free range of the boob ... it feels nice to know i can comfort her .. my mum said i was spoiling her though .. i just ignored it ... she was also carring her around the shops for a bit and then said , " oh i better put her in the pram , dont want to spoil her now" , i was just saying to DH earlier this morning that i felt bad for having her in the pram for so long and olny picking her up when she cried .....she cried heaps today , probably coz she wasnt close to me ;)

gotta go give some bed time cuddles to nixon ..

Lea Tobias has times like that too where he cries & spews etc. I think the times he does it is when he may have a bit of wind but usually just when he's really tired & just needs to be wrapped tight & cuddled to help him get off to sleep. I hope Gabby passes the stage for you soon, its hard not knowing what they need!

Kellie Yay to the kids sleeping at the same time today! I hope it keeps up, makes a big difference especially when they are close in age like yours. DD got up about 2 mins after DS went down today but I think its easier when they're older as they can amuse themselves easier? Good luck with the weaning :)

Milly I hope you enjoyed the festival & you didnt do too much walking etc at least today the weather was better than yesterday for you!

kellie: nixon still has a sippy cup of milk at bed time ... he is 2 next month, so i should be thinking about weaning him too .. apart from tooth decay(which he does not have but i worry about it) i dont really think twice about giving him a milk ..... it clams him down and makes him drowsy enough to make him sleep ..its still so nice to see a baby at 2 yrs old milk drunk :lol: i used to worry about it but its usually only once a day so it cant be that bad for him .... its generally the only time he gets it ..if you find a sucessful weaning tip let us know ... as i dobnt want him to be 4 and still needing it ..

gabby was unsettled all night last nigh she slept until midnight and then fed about 6 times between then and 7 am ... soooo tired ..

charmalea- I found that our local shopping centre has feeding rooms so I'm going to check them out next time i'm there. I didn't know where they were on Saturday so I ended up BF'ing in the car as Chloe was screaming and we were near the car park. I guess because I've never seem woman BF in the general shopping area that I'd feel a little weird about it but the mall has 3 feeding areas for mums so I'll check those out instead.

Re the wind with gabby it sounds exactly like what Chloe does. The last 24 hours I've been giving chloe 6 drops of Infants' Friend after her feed and has really helped with the whole thing. She was also waking after an hour or two of sleep with violent screams and the legs going along with the occasional fluff.. Seems to be helping her and it's fine for newborns. Might be worth a shot and see if it works.

Danielle_M I managed to score myself a few tshirts from Jay Jays, pair of new shoes and later this week I'm getting two new pairs of jeans as I ran out of time on Saturday with also having to get fathers day gifts and Chloe was such a very good girl considering we had her shopping for 4.5 hours so I voted to take her home rather than continue shopping into the 5th hour.

US - Not much happening her. BF'ing still going good and I even managed to express 50ml the other day and have let hubby give her two feeds as I split it into 2 x 25ml feeds (I use this as a top up at the end of a normal BF). Did it not mainly as one BB was a little tender the other day and Chloe slept through a feed and although the dolly parton look can be considered a good one, my BB felt like they'd explode so I expressed to ease the pressure and as a bonus hubby could feed her which I think he really enjoys.
Tomorrow I'm taking her to the health clinic just to check her weight.
Wednesday we are getting twinkle toes done so that'll be fun and tomorrow I also need to try and get some photos to use on her birth announcements. I found a place online where you send them the photos and details, they customise the announcement for you and then send it back in high resolution image format so you can print as many as you like on 6x4 photo paper so I'm just going to print them off at harvey norman. Way cheaper than having the place print them for me which is like >$2.50 per announcement. Doing them myself should be <$1.20 each announcement and at least if I run out I can print off more as I need them.

Thanks for the warm welcome girls. The mastitis hit me hard again yesterday. I was running a temp of 39.5 & spent all day in bed. I got up every 3 hours to express then went straight back to bed. I didn't get to see my baby yesterday. I couldn't stand up for more than 3 minutes. I feel better today, not 100% but better. Oh my, Mastitis is the most horrible thing. I'm doing all the right things to avoid it, I just don't know why it keeps happening. I'm on antibiotics, but wonder if it reoccured cause I wasn't keeping up the panadol... Any ideas?

georgi , its not anything you are doing wrong , its most likely the stress you are feeling . Also , using a breast pump is not as efficient as a baby milking the breast . alot of the time hind milk can be left in the breast and not have it drained fully . .. this leads to blocked ducts/mastits.. when your pumping so often you boob can sweat and then the plastic sheild becomes a breeding ground for germs which can get back into the breast ...

hand expressing could be worth a try as you massage the milk out rather than suck it out ... its time comsuming and possibly quite painful considering the mastits but it will help clear the breast , warm compress works well too .. there are these things at baby shops that are filled with gel and you can have them hot or cold they are round and fit and mould to the breast to ease all sorts of discomfort ... they are about $40 .. a bit exe but worth it to ease the pain , rather then bulky heat packs and warm washers ( which they would provide relief , i would stay away from any thing warm and wet , it could lead to thrush/mastitis all over again) the ABA sells them too ..

would also reccomend taking something like inner health plus to put the flora back into your body that the antibiotics are taking out .. it will help with healing and energy levels too ..

Belinda , yes i love infants friend too .. when ds was little we used it every feed as he had ebm and would suck in too much air no matter what bottle we used , but it doesnt seem to have the same effect on Gabriella ... i give it to her after big feeds and still takes ages for her to burp or sometimes not at all .. she farts heaps ... which cant be that pleasnt for her ... i think me and dh were banking on infants friend working as well as it did with ds , but it doesnt seem to be ..

also funny thing about I/F is that its made in the town i live in ( ipswich ) and no one knows where the factory is or how its made , its like a secret .. they have a web page but there are not many details on it ..

atm she is sleeping on her tummy and seems so setteld , the pressure must be providing relief for her , if only she could sleep like that at night we coul all get some sleep ..

oh and i bought some of those hydrogel things and they work well .. but its a bit of a shock when after a feed you go to put them back in and they are freezing !!! but they help with the brusing ..

Thomas did well at the Doc. Funny for the girl that doesnt even give the kids a neddle at birth so they arent in pain...has had to give two out of three kids the snip...oche

Lea have you thought about a tea tree matress.....NOT suggesting that you sleep Gab on her tummy BUT if you make an informed decision.... There are studies that say that SIDS does NOT occur in breastfeed babes that are in a smoke free home....that and the tea tree that they can breath through if they roll, also that if you are sharing a room they rgulate their breathing with their mother...... My three have NEVER slept on their back....... If you all need the sleep.........

Lea is so right Georgi, i have done weights on my babes and i give them about 100 or more mls a feed at this age but whenever i have pumped i have never been able to get out more than 40mls and thats when the bb has been huge from babe missing a feed...pumps just dont work for everyone.... You are very brave and should be proud of all you are doing for your little baby!

After thomas had his TT i went into the city to get my bridesmaid dress.... brought when i was 22 weeks... not pretty but it fits......LOL

georgi bigs husg to you I know you might be feeling crap but having baby feed will help you feel better if your up to it head to bed and let baby feed i used a pillow and held my DS hands as he was a bit older and loved kneading my boob when he fed have you been back to the doctor may be the antibotics are not strong enough I really hope you are feeling better soon your so right its the worst feeling ever :hug::hug:

Was down in Brisbane yesterday and Eireann was so good no problems in the car bit worried about her feeding as she was sleeping lots well she made up for it last night every hour on the hour and she wasnt crying lots but would give out and moan at me lol
today i noticed my right boob has a bit of asore spot bit worried about it have tried massageing it could it be a blocked duct may be

Belinda , yes i love infants friend too .. when ds was little we used it every feed as he had ebm and would suck in too much air no matter what bottle we used , but it doesnt seem to have the same effect on Gabriella ... i give it to her after big feeds and still takes ages for her to burp or sometimes not at all .. she farts heaps ... which cant be that pleasnt for her ... i think me and dh were banking on infants friend working as well as it did with ds , but it doesnt seem to be ..

also funny thing about I/F is that its made in the town i live in ( ipswich ) and no one knows where the factory is or how its made , its like a secret .. they have a web page but there are not many details on it ..

atm she is sleeping on her tummy and seems so setteld , the pressure must be providing relief for her , if only she could sleep like that at night we coul all get some sleep ..

oh and i bought some of those hydrogel things and they work well .. but its a bit of a shock when after a feed you go to put them back in and they are freezing !!! but they help with the brusing ..

charmalea Yep Chloe is the same, loves sleeping on her belly. She only does it though when she is sleeping on me if she is unsettled and today I put her on her belly in the pram at the shops as she was having pains. At night though she is on her back in the cradle. I have the mattress in her cradle elevated with some towels and that seems to help her but yes I'm now giving her IF after each feed and helps a little but not 100%.
Glad the hydrogel discs are soothing but completely know what you mean about the chill factor when you put them back in. :) hehehe

Went to the health clinic today and had madam weighed. 190g in 1.5 weeks so they were very happy with that. She is now 3200g. I am now reassured that me letting her sleep at night is fine and that she is getting enough from letting her demand BF. Will go back in 2 weeks and weigh her again to see how things are going.

belinda , i didnt realise chole was soo tiny 3200 @ 3 weeks ... how much did she weigh at birth ..

i am always amazed at babies weights .. dont know why though .. i guess i missed out on a tiny baby .. seeing as ds was 8lbs .. not entirely huge but was a chubba... gabs is only 3800 .. so she has put on about 250 grams in 2 weeks , not that you'd notice , 0000 still hang off her , but i like haivng her so petite ..

i can usually express 150mls out of the left side and almost the same from the right ...i am limiting the number of times i express , i dont want get the left side engorged.. i asked the doctor about why it hurts to feed from that side , he just said to put up with it till shes bigger :(

just so bored right now .. bummed around all day , have no energy to take the washing off the line ...got nothing in the cupboard for tea ... and im getting sick of biscuits :lol:

tonight nixon is going into a big bed ... he got a brand new matteress and a thomas the tankengine blanket .. i hope he sleep well in it ..

Forgot to mention that they weight Thomas at the Doc and he has put on 700gms in 2 weeks! He is now 4kgs. This is what my kids do...stack in on then stay the same for about 6months then stack it on......freaks out the none BF supporters but hay after three im not going to worry about too much now and too little later...i wouldnt have even weigh him if i hadnt been at the docs!

Snowychickie: Please dont put too much on when her weight is in two weeks, just look at your baby "Does she look healthy? When she is awake is she alert?" BF and weight just dont go together well, its never "right" as all our babes are different and all our milks are different. Trust yourself and your baby!

I havent been in here for ages, so i dont know whats going on with any of you but i will try to pick up from here :)

I have to have an endoscopy on the 22nd. They have taken me off my meds and my stomach is SO sore now. The heartburn and reflux have increased now im off the meds too. The reflux did settle alot after i gave birth but it must have been the meds helping it and the fact my stomach wasnt squashed anymore.

I had another go at breastfeeding and it isnt as painful anymore YAY!! But my supply is low now so i have to give her a bottle after a feed. I have a breast pump on its way so hopefully when i get that i can increase it somehow. My CHN suggested i not take fenugreek until we know whats going on with my stomach.

Chardonnay has a cold. Im not happy. She's had it for about 10 days now. She has a bad cough and i keep having to suction her. She had sticky eyes too, they have cleared up now YAY!! I ended up massaging around under her eye and more stuff came out and then it cleared up the next day.

I am taking Chardonnay to the CHN for weekly weighs at the moment because my last two babies have been "failure to thrive". She is doing well though, which is excellent. Last week she was 3080gm. She is starting to stay awake longer now.

She is still very much a 3 hrly feeder.

The kids love her and all want to help out all the time.

My bleeding stopped over the w/e but started up again last night and is bright red again. I dont know if this is normal or not? Anyone have any experiences with this?

Kristi - aw hun not good so many things going on for you atm. Hope Chardonnay's cold improves and you all start to feela bit better soon. Ali is the same always feeding every 3 hours during the day but we can stretch it to 5 hours of a night depending how sleepy she is. I find it easier to cope as I know I have so many hours to get things done! Re the bleeding our nurses told us if it is bright red you had to go back to see them but I dont know if that is across the board with all ppl or if it was dependant on the type of delivery?

Lea - how did you go did you get your car? I remember car shopping before Ali was born and I am with I ended up hating it. We must have looked at every Ford XR6 around and by the end Im like I dont care what one we get can we just pick one !!! How did Nix go in his big bed?

I went on Monday with my SIL and nephew and my nephew kept attempting to push Ali in her pram - at 5 it was a very funny sight indeed and we nearly hit so many ppl but all worked out in the end! Well I have scored work from home from my old company. Seems my replacement hasnt worked out so I am organising the conferences and AGM from home on a casual hourly rate. Be good to bring in some play money so to speak and still feel I am contributing to the income lol! Have been busy getting myself organised. I have managed to keep on top of washing etc although this morning kitchen looked like a tornado had ripped through it ... i think it took me 3 attempts to clean it in between tending to Ali !! No wonder the days seem to fly by !!

Ali is already a month old (Monday just gone) I cant believe how quickly time flies ... we have her 6 wk checkup soon but I already notice so many changes in her. No longer in 0000 and into 000 (woohoo) but she is smiling and sooo alert - I could spend hours looking at her !!!

How was everyone's Fathers Day? My DH loved it ... first one and all so I spoiled him rotten and we took so many pics !!

Anyway Ali awake and fussing ... need to tell her it is time for sleep she has had her "awake"time so now time for sleepy byes !!!

Hiya ladies,

Well life here is pretty full on! I don't know how you girls with more than two bubs are doing it....

DH and I are trying to get DD to sleep on her own, so a fair bit of crying going on here...by both me and her :( . I hate listening to her cry and even though it's only for 2mins, it totally sucks, but I won't be able to put her to bed the way we do now when DH is at work (we have to rock her to sleep in our arms still). Liam has been impossible too, not letting us put him down. He won't sleep in the day time very well either. Night times, are challenging some nights too, like last night, I was up from 1.30-3am, just trying to settle him. Tonight I am trying to get him to sleep on his own in his cradle, so far it's soooo not working. An hour later and he's still awake and grumping in his cradle. I don't know what to do. He's so tired. I know the only way he'll sleep now is with me in the bed. That's what happens every night. I tyr and try to get him to go to sleep, but it just ends with me going to bed and 9.00 and feeding him to sleep in bed. DH is sleeping on the lounge and I miss him. The nurse today said to try to let him sleep in his cradle, not on us, but the only way he sleeps is on me in the sling/car/pram(sometimes) or on DH. Why can't I have one kid who just sleeps???? I'm so over it already and it's 3wks into it all!
On the upside Liam is feeding well. Still painful but I think that's just how it's going to be for me. Though everyone keeps on questioning my ability to feed my baby. For some reason people think it's cause I'm not giving him enough milk that he's so unsettled. Mum said yesterday, 'he seems to be hungry all the time' (he's not and he's weeing and pooing like a champ). I told her not to start that ***** again cause I was going to go insane at the next person who told me I wasn't feeding my baby enough. She always, literally everytime I see her, questions wether or not I'm feeding him enough. And pressures me to give him a bottle in her own way. DH was too for a while until I broke down and went nuts at him. I doubt myself enough let alone with the people who are supposed to be supporting me doubting me too.
I just feel like I'm doing the wrong thing and I'm not enough, not for Lil or Liam or DH. Definately not for me.....sorry girls, feeling pretty down today. Probably having to listen to Lily scream for half an hour....
Just ignore me!! I'll feel better tomorrow.

oh Kellie :hug: I'm sorry to hear things are a bit tough there atm. I don't know what to say about the sleeping thing, we decided before we had kids that they will go straight into their own beds & rooms from day one (DS didnt this time, he was in a bassinette in our room for a while but that was only because my mum was sleeping in his room) so I've never had the problem of a baby not settling in bed. I can imagine it would be very difficult to change as it would be so comforting for bubs to be on you to fall asleep, I know I wouldn't want to go into a boring bed after being shown I could snuggle up to mum. If you really want him to sleep in his own crib you may have a few sleepless nights ahead of you, I know it would be just as hard for you as it would be for Liam, especially you hearing him cry for you. Sorry I really cant offer any advice, I do hope something happens soon so you can get some well deserved rest!
I totally hear you on your mum saying "he's always hungry". I get something similar but its with my MIL saying "oohhh he's got a pain (wind)". I can tell that he needs to be wrapped & snuggled because he's over tired from having people cuddle him instead of letting him sleep but MIL takes him & keeps trying to burp him telling me he's in pain. As soon as I take him & snuggle him up to me he closes his eyes & starts to drift off. I dont like to tell MIL she's not right as she's raised 4 kids etc etc & I would be the bad mother ignoring the "pains" & ignoring the advice given from a mother with experience....
Sorry for going on a bit, but I do understand this part of your post & I know the frustration. I also get people saying "why bother" etc about me still continuing to try to breastfeed Tobias! So infuriating!!!!!!

Kristi Great news that the BFing doesn't hurt anymore!! Sorry to hear the bleeding has started again, mine still starts up again every now & then, so annoying! The nurse said when it starts up again its your body telling you to slow down, maybe try to get a good rest hun.... I know thats alot easier said than done!

Snowchickie Glad your DD is putting on weight, I let DS sleep as long as he likes too, the longest sleep he has each afternoon/night is about 7 hours straight, usually from about 8pm so I'm hoping it will change to a little later over time so I can get the most out of the block of time (sleeping! LOL)

Me Still trying to get some kind of routine, I dont know how those of you do it with more than 2 children!!! I booked Brianna into swimming lessons so that will get a little routine happening I suppose!
Still trying to breastfeed, I dont know if I'll be able to do it. Left BB seems to be working ok but my right one is all blistered & scabby on the nipple (sorry TMI & gross!) so it keeps sticking to the breast pad & ripping the scab off all the time so its not getting any better but is getting worse :( I went to the doctors today to get it checked & he took a swab to check for infection but I was just told to put breast milk on it from the other BB & vaseline, I dont have any vaseline so I tried the breast milk (stung!) then put some moisturiser ontop (ouch!) I hope it starts to heal soon, its so painful & not only that it means that BB is out of action for trying to BF so I'm thinking by the time it heals the milk may be gone? Anyway I still have lefty working. Tobias just wont attatch, he screams :(
I had his hands & feet done on Monday (twinkle toes but different company called Impressionable kids, the same people who did DD's) & I'm getting the photo tomorrow which was taken last Thurs. looking forward to it being finished.
Tobias has been badly constipated so changing his formula from S26 gold to plain old S26, hopefully will help him out a little!

Well this has taken me close to 2 hours to type (if not longer) due to feeds etc so I best be getting off to bed to get some sleep before Tobias wakes for his next feed!

Ugh, last night has to have been the worst night ever......I don't know how much sleep I got but it wasn't much. I'm sooo buggered. If this keeps up I'm going to be a basket case.

Kristi, its good to hear from you , and yes i find that my flow settles down , if im busy or out and about too much it comes back heavy and kinda get some cramping as well , and im glad to hear your back to breast feeding too .. its good for you both , and there are heaps of ways to increase milk supply as well .. i found this thread for you .. its seems as though Aktivite (sp?) is the most common thing for increasing milk supply , its gotta taste better than herbal stuff ... i took this supplement from the health shop once , it was calles milk thistle or something like that , i dont believe it worked , but the ideas in the thread might work ...

Well nixon has been in his big bed/ new room for 2 nights now , and so far its going ok , he falls asleep really well , and the 1st night he slept through and woke around 6:30 am .... :rolleyes:DH went and rested on the couch with him in front of the cartoons ..

and last night about 3 am i heard little footsteps around the house , and saw him come through out room ( its got 2 entries) and head for the lounge room .. i got him to come into our bed , had a bit of a cuddle and then thought ... "nope cant have this every night" so after a bit more of a cuddle i sent dh to put him back in his own bed ... DH slept with him as he was wide awake by this time and i could hear nixon babbling away to himself .. i am trying to be strong and teach him from the beggining to go back to his own bed ... ( as much as i love it when all of us are sunnuggled into each other)

Kellie: im not sure what i would do in the situation you are facing atm , but all i can give you is my thoughts on what i would do , Lily is still quite young and i know she has problems with her sleep and has had for a long time , eventually the patting and rocking to sleep will phase out and she will fall asleep on her own , a few months back nixon was a shocker and wouldnt go to bed , so we had to rock him in the rocking chair to make him fall asleep , it was so stressful as i was pg and he was kicking and screaming all over the place , but in the end DH & i looked at it from a differnt angle and looked forward to rocking him to sleep and having the satisfaction of hiving a busy toddler succumbing to sleep on our chest , we used to bicker about whos' turn it was :lol:

but now , having 2 in the mix is alot different , for now i wouldnt worry about routines .. liam just needs you atm and if he sleeps next to you , then let him be ... by about 3 mths of age they settle into their own pattern and are much more able to handle a "routine" so if you could please , for me , take a big deep breath in and drop your tense shoulders , now breath out , and hug your babies .... this too shall pass ..

Danielle , stuff your your MIL says about wind :lol: my mum and anyother person in the older generation thinks every baby they see has wind , my mum does the same thing , tries to burp Gab every bloomin' time she sees her ... i just let it go ... and whats even more frustrating is that my mum took nixon for the day yesterday and wanted to know if she could have Gab aswell .... NO WAY , she is 2 weeks old ... she wont take a dummy or a bottle , so im glad she couldnt have her .. but then in the arvo , she was saying to gab how she saw a baby about her age taking a bottle and why couldnt she have a bottle too ... my mum has been know to sneak formula in to her grankids , because " they seem so hungry"

and i agree the switch from gold formula to plain stuff will be better for him ... a teaspoon of brown sugar and water does the trick too .... ( though he might be a bit young to cope with that just yet )

Well as for me , there were no cars i liked yesterday , but dh did reveal that he's willing to travel to ACT to get the one that he likes, hes going to the bank today then it looks as though i will have a envy green ts awd territory.... hmm do i get a say in this, do i really want a fluro green car??? and do i feel like a "holiday " to somwhere where its stll -2 at night ??? not sure:lol:

we had pics for gabs twinle toes yesterday too... the lady asked if she was a good baby.. i told her she was high matainence !! as she feeds up to 3 times an hour the only time she is settled is if she is sleeping in bed with me (after ive spent an hour or 2 trying to get her to sleep) or if she is feeding or in the papasan swing , shes not too bad in the car either ... so she is forever in my arms or on the boob or in the papasan .. she will sleep for ages in there ( as long as its on :lol: ) so if i need a break i pop her in there and we are all happy ...

she still vomits up to 3 times after a feed .. my left side flows really fast so she chokes and splutters and never finishes a feed and then spwes it all up ... and poops and farts then gets the major case of the hiccups ...

like right now i just fed her and she spewed 4 times did a huge fart that scared her ..hehe and then pooed and now is hiccupping ..

im taking her to clinc today to weigh her and ask about her fussiness .. i really dont know if this is normal , refulx,colic or just a personality quirk :dunno:

Hi Girls... Thanks for all your tips on the mastitis. I feel much better today. Although my milk supply in that right breast is still very low. I have begun the hand expressing after I pump & while showering each day. I'm trying to pump that breast every 2.5 hours. I think the supply is on the increase again. It certainly has lost it's lumps & redness. I just hope I can keep it away now. That nipple is really swollen & sore. I'm pretty sure it's from all the pumping. I'm trying to ice it a little after I pump.

Byron is doing great now with his breast feeding. He's starting to take full feeds from the breast, twice a day. I guess we'll start to do 3 feeds a day in the next couple of days. I just want to get him home. He was 35 wks last Tuesday & I believe they've gotta be term (37wks) before they'll let them go. So I guess we're not too far away. He needs to be putting on weight & feeding every feed off the breast aswell.

I will get to doing personals eventually, I promise.

Lea I'm alot like you, crying over nothing. It probably has something to do with the lack of sleep in the early days plus the hormones from the pregnancy/giving birth? I cant remember having it with DD though but she slept through the night from day one so I suppose my life went almost back to normal straight away, maybe thats why I avoided it last time?

kirsti14 - I had a supply issue and started taking motilium and my milk increased within 8 hours of starting. Supply went down a little a few days ago and took the tablets again and voila, i look like dolly parton again!

Mel Things are good. Chloe slept from 10.30pm till 6am this morning. My sister had come to stay the night to "experience" the night with her and she slept the whole time. Oh how cute your nephew pushing Ali. Kids at that age are just so cute (my godson is 5 and he is just smitten with Chloe). Yeah weight gain was good so not concerned now, was a little before her weight check but not now as I know she is getting enough and she is certainly happy in herself with feeding and sleeping. Only issue is the recurrant wind but I've been giving her infants' friend after each feed and seems to help.

Danielle_M - You just described my experiences also.. Only last night i was at my Mum's and Chloe was crying, mind you had been passed around for cuddles like a "pass the parcel" present and Mum kept saying she has pains and talking to her saying "oh you poor little thing you have pains".. She screamed the house down at one stage so all i did was take her and give her cuddles and off to sleep she went. Both sets of grandparents seem to compete for a hold which of course I completely understand but makes getting them off to sleep tricky. Chloe slept for 8 hours straight last night once we got home so just shows how tired she was.
I got Twinkle Toes done on Wednesday!!! Can't wait to see it.

How do i do it with three....What other option do i have?? Did have a moment yesterday (after Grace woke with major gastro..) thinking thats it...im on strike LOL. DH home for 3 days now which is his first stretch since Thomas was born so that sure be nice for all of us :)

You do all sound down...Tho Danielle was so right...THIS TOO SHALL PASS. I have great births and ok bubs but i always think of the first 6 weeks as a sentence....I have just found that one day you wake up and feel "normal" and in control again and it always happens to be at the 6week mark.

Love your bubbas and dont try routeen or change now....just get some fresh air and eat well..... You can do this and you are doing an amazing job! All of you :)

Wow I am so sorry to hear that some of you are not doing to well and feeling down ... I wish there was something we could do but all I can do is offer big hugs to everyone and I hope that you all feel on top of things again soon .... I never realised how hard this all is either and I only have Ali ... I think those of you with more than 1 have certainly done so well ....

Milly - wow hun such great advice and I dont think you could have said it any better ... I keep hearing about this magic 6 weeks which is next week for us so be intersting to see how things change if they do !!! Hope your food shop was a success !!!

Hi ladies,

Well we had another night from hell here. Lily screaming the house down, trying to get her into the routine of going to bed on her own, without rocking. Liam not sleeping again, we were awake between about 3.30am and 5.30am. I have no idea why he just won't sleep. I feed feed feed (feeding every 2hrs here), then burp, rock and jiggle him....still he just will not sleep. And he's waking agin now after only 30 mins of sleep. I'm going to go insane, he's sooooo over tired and just won't settle properly. Why oh why can't I have just one baby who will sleep???? Gotta go he's starting up agian.....
