I can fit into both pairs of jeans I own! Bit of overhang, but it's not uncomfortable - it just looks bad!! lol!
Veygas is just about to move up to infant size nappies (can't believe he was in newborns this long!!) but we still had about 1/4 of a box of newborns so I'm making him wait a few more days!
We have the paed surgeon appt next Monday, in the meantime, an abdo u/s on Wednesday ... he hasn't done a poo since yesterday morning (poor thing woke up covered in it, so it must have been quite explosive!) and the hernia is feeling a little harder today - it actually had popped back in yesterday, but alas, out again today I hate dosing him up, but the panadol is keeping him settled and helping him sleep - he is going for 3.5 - 4 hours at a time between feeds, day and night! But most of his awake time is pretty whingy atm, which I can understand, but it's hard to try and get everything done with him constantly attached to me
Anyway, must scoot, he's unsettled and crying again ... hopefully bbl to catch up on more personals!
MM my ex husband was born with hernia the removed it same day. I wish you all the best with scan and next monday. my appointment is tomorrow i hope no i sorta feel like it has to be done a Slip so hope he see's that too. or else i will always be worried what if it dont work properly in adult hood!
josh sleep's and feeds constant after 8pm till 5 every 4 hours abouts but during day its not constant sleep or feeds. its a bit everywhere. recently at 10 i force a feed on him and he sleeps til 5am but he does wake for few seconds dummie goes in and he is off. in morning feeds every hour.
MM - I'm sorry that V isn't well - squishy warm hugs to both of you (squishy cos I'm pudgy)
Squidipa - that doc sounded like crap. How's your belly now? I had belly pain and it was a uterine infection, so be careful honey!!! Oh and my belly hangs over my scar too...pmsl.. its soooo very attractive having to lift it up so I can make sure my scar is dry after a shower!!!! lol
Kiwigirl - I lurveee to shot of Eli!!! I haven't tried that brand of cloth but it looks cool!!! I'll have to take more of M and A with their cloth on!!!
Vic - will send nappies soon honey.. gotta get my arse into gear. N sounds like she is going great guns!!!!
(btw, sorry for abbrev. names - typing with one hand whilst balancing bottle against boob feeding M)
Leasha - hope things are going well - love the lopsided boobs comment... lol.. are you coming to the meet up on Wed?
Hello to Pixie & Bear! Love you guys *mwah*
Had a good night here last night - she fed at 8.00 over at in-laws (was DH's b'day yeaterday) and then we got home at 9.30, she screamed till 10.00 (and I couldn't find a blasted dummy - I only have 6 for her!!) and then she let us sleep till 4am then all of us were up at 6.40!! I feel normal today!!!
A is getting his molars i think was awfully whingy this morning wgen mum popped in for a visit, so doped him up with lots of drugs
Done most of my housework and finally got a chance to pop on!!! My god, never get time to scratch my butt these days!!!
Squidipa - my lot could be quiet, playing outside. whatever, but as soon as I'm on the phone, they play up, make noise, fight - it's like they have a radar for the phone!!
Hope your appt goes well tomorrow And yeah, it was me talking about the antibiotics ... I think they tend to be a bit harsh on baby's stomachs, but if they're helping you, surely they'd be helping bubs too!
I tell ya, it just breaks my heart to hear the pain in Veygas's cries - he's finding it hard to shift wind at the moment (either end!), so really struggles which gets him upset. The doctor who we have to see didn't have any available appts at westmead til the end of october, so we have to go through his private practice at wahroonga ... I didn't want Veygas to have to wait 8 weeks to have this seen to!
Sasha - i'm lucky if the nappies even make it out of the box these days!!! I think with your first, you're so organised etc, for me, it's easier to just chuck the ox or packet into their rooms and deal with it that way ... I have my change table in the room, but it ends up being used for everything BUT changing!! LOL!
Kel, with the dummy, I just hold it in his mouth til he starts sucking - I don't use it that much cause he doesn't like it, but sometimes it's absolutely necessary (like when you're halfway through the shopping with a just about full trolley and you can't stop to feed and all you want to do is get the shopping finished and get home!) (or when you really need to eat dinner cause you're absolutely starving and about to pass out from hunger!)
MM have you tried gripe water i never have tried it, But ive heard of a lot of recommendations for it. Its ment to help with wind and bought from woolworths coles. I am sorry for veygas's pains and aches and for you and hubbie having to watch that BIG HUGGLES
Josiah is up again that wasnt very long i cant tell ya that.
all!
Still have this filthy filthy filthy cold, so just laying around on the couch today - DD has been asleep in her rocker for most of the day too. I'm just praying she doesn't get it because it's utterly horrible. The Bear has gone to see some people from the food markets and help them butcher a pig (only the Bear!) so it is just us.
kel, beth has one of those bonds suits, it is a bit of a pain to get on and off but its worth it cause she looks so cute in it! Usually I just put her in a t-shirt and pants cause it's easier to take the pants off to change her a dozen times a day!
I hear ya on the boobies - I've got shocking strippers' cramp and my maternity bras are 14DD and before I was pregnant I was a 12B!
kiwigirl - cute pic! to MM and squidipa - hope all goes well with the paed and the little ops your boys need.
melski *mwah* good to see you back to everyone else, I am going to try to eat something while DD is snoozing and then get back on the couch!
we use bonds wonder suits here,
grrr the 3 year old just deliberately woke josh up nudging his foot with a box. before that he wake him by grabbing his feet while i was feeding him. Its all attention i know but grrr. He needs to learn it's not all about him anymore. he has to share Me Poor josh hasn't slept for even 1 hour solid all day.
Long day no sleep, except for 30min in the carrier, 20min in my friends arms and 20min in the pram... I broke and have tried the dummy, she can't hole the round one and it is a very small dummy, she can hold onto the NUK one same teat as the bottle, but she can't hold it for long - her sucking and holding isn't so great!! I am a bit dissappointed that we have gone the path, but it did provide her relief after feeding, also after the Colic relief and stomach calm.
Last feed was 6pm, finished at 6:50pm, so looked asleep, put her down and it is 7:38pm and she is talking to her self wide awake in her pram, no dummy she will eventually fall asleep and at least she is not crying atm.
Just finished cooking a Chicken and Leek Pie - yummo, all fresh ingredients, even grated the nutmeg!!! I reckon you might be proud The Bear!!! Last night I cooked a Chicken, Asparagus and Leek Risotto, same all market fresh, except for the chicken stock... hmm must learn how to make a good stock!!! Any tips anyone?
Hope you get rid of that cold shortly The Pixie, I couldn't imagine being sick right now!!
I have bought some Gripe Water, was going to try it, but not sure when.. before, during or after a feed??? Has anyone used it before?
Don't stress Mel, when ever you get a chance!!
How cute is Eli in his Fuzzbunz, DH said the nappy looks huge I said if we try to put the MCN's on Nakita at the moment they will look a lot bigger than that!!
On the discussion of Boobies - mine are huge, they did get out to a 12F, but have settled back to a 12E ATM, I want my 12DD back... please!! I feel like I am all boob!!
Hooray for the Jeans Kel and Rachel - it feels great hey!!!
Yay for then sleep Sasha!! I would be thrilled to get a good block atm... we will see what tonight brings!!
MM huge for you hun, give Veygas a big cuddle for me
Yay for the parcels Squidipa -just like christmas hey!!
Hope Jazz is still letting you have more sleep Leasha!!
Nakita has bags under her eyes she is soo tired!!
Must run pie is due to come out of the oven any second now!!
A Chicken Carcass (Buy a whole chicken, remove the legs, breasts and wings)
An Onion
A Carrot
Couple of Bay Leaves
Tablespoon of black peppercorns
Chop the chicken bones up into managable size pieces, chop the onion into 4 pieces, and the carrot into chunks - don't be delicate, don't even bother peeling the veg.
Put a large pot on a high heat, squirt a little oil in the bottom and fry the chicken bones hard until they are almost burning, add the onion and carrot and keep frying and stirring the bits around so that why colour on all sides.
Then cover with water and add the bay leaves and peppercorns, have a good scrape at the bottom of the pan to get the burnt bits off and then bring it all back to the boil. Let it simmer for 45 minutes or so, discard the solid bits by passing it through a sieve then it's ready to use.
If I'm doing a risotto then I usually put the stock on whilst I'm preparing the other ingredients, so it's ready to use when I need it, then put the remainder into a jug in the fridge for use over the next few days.
Well had a much better night last night, once I actually got Kye to sleep I managed to get some sleep too but this morning I have woken up with a headache and a sore throat
Yesterday afternoon I was battling to get him settled, he was not a happy chappy! Tried everything again - cooled boiled water, Infants friend, warm towel round his tummy but no just kept crying and crying, poor fella got himself so worked up I think, got overtired - he woke at midnight, I fed him then put him down again and he slept through till 5:30am!!
Milk is still not great; just been on the pump for 10mins and only got 40ml. I'm trying to persevere with it but yeah its a bit disheartning all the work for a measley 40ml!! I guess any breast milk is better than nothing though hey!
Squidipa - good luck at your Paed appointment today!
to everyone else - going for a shower before the man wakes up!
Sasha - don't lose heart - some people can't express anything no matter how much they try so I'd say 40ml is fantastic!!!! Must of been the night for screaming cos we had it too... fun fun fun....
Squidipa - good luck!! Let us know how you go...
Bear & Pixie - glad things are going well - and still finding time to cook is amazing - I need a clone of you here I think Bear.. lol... although I did cook last night - woohoo - first time in ages...
Pixie - hope your cold goes soon - we all got it to here, except for M.
Vic - honey nappies are in mail today for you.....
Quick post here... I GOT SLEEP!!!! We tried Gripewater last night, (the alcohol free one!), gave her 5ml in a medicine dummy thing (really handy gift we got ages ago!!), she sucked it down like a trooper, had her bottle of EBM and sleep, no wind (couldn't get her to burp) so she was asleep about 10-10:30 (not certain of the time now) but slept right through to 3am!!!, then I got up, gripwater, fed her one boob about 20min, changed bum second boob bringing feed to a total 40 - 45minutes, then sleep!!, she woke at 5:30am pulling her legs up screaming, tried to settle her, gave her the dummy - back to sleep for another hour!!! OMG that was bliss. Finished the feed now, wrapped and put her down at 7:50am, she is still chatting away nearly an hour later, but is quite content so just leaving her...
Thanks The Bear - so simple, I will be off to buy a chicken when I need to make another risotto!! How long would stock last in the fridge?
Mel, oo very excited!!
Hooray Sasha, 40ml in 10 min is great - I get about 60ml atm in 20 minutes, not getting the 90-100ml I got a few weeks ago, but it must be my supply settling down.
Good luck Squidipa
Hopefully I will remain in the land of the living!!
Beema - It will keep for about 10 days in the fridge, if you are going to keep it longer than freeze it...If I'm buying chicken and don't need the stock immediately then I'll just freeze the bones, until I need them - they take less time to thaw and take up less space in the freezer.
Squidipa - good luck with the paed visit, let us know how you got on.
Mel - We've had lots of time to cook as I've been off work, I'm hoping that we will be able to keep it up when I go back, although I suspect we will have to focus a bit more on convenience and less time sating my purist desire for good ingredients.
I spent yesterday up on the central coast showing a small holder how to butcher his own pigs, thankfully he'd already done the messy stuff so I spent the day showing him how to break it down into chops, roasts, offal and curing bacon and hams. So now I've got a fridge full of porky bits to use up, which is fun, if a little time consuming as it forces you to dig up recipes that are seldom used...for instance I've got a bag of pig feet and another of ears that will probably be tonight's dinner.
I'm hoping we can make it a regular arrangement as he also has chickens, ducks, geese and a few cows so a trip up there every month or so should see us set for good quality meat for a while....the latest litter of piglets are only 3 weeks old and as cute as buttons...should be ready in time for christmas dinner!
What's the view on cold and flu remedies that are safe whilst BF?
- The Pixie has a real stinker of a cold and it would be nice to try and do something about it.
Morning all....
Starting to feel a little better today - not drowning in a sea of snot this morning so that is a plus.... still got a headache and a sore throat but it's a major improvement on yesterday. The Bear got up and gave DD a bottle of EBM so I had a little lie in. Now just worried that the Bear and Beth will get this filthy cold. Beema - I can't believe how lucky I am, Beth is such an easygoing baby, she hardly cries and she's pretty settled in a routine. Both of us just kind of lay around snoozing yesterday between feeds. I don't know how I would have coped if she was screaming or even grizzly and unsettled but she was a complete angel.
The Bear was so happy with his little trip to the farm to do some amateur butchery... apart from pork, he also brought home fresh flowers, a huge tub of ti-tree honey and a carton of blue chicken eggs! He is such a country bear, I am sure he would love to live on a farm.
Beema - yay for getting sleep!
Squidipa good luck with the paed
Mel
hi to all, hope everyone has a good day!
Pixie - I had a yucky throat and stuffy nose last week, and I used my grandmother's trusty little recipe:
1 or 2 panadol crushed up (I use a mortar and pestle)
about 10-20 mls of brown vinegar
2 or 3 teaspoons of honey (or more if you like!)
about 1/4 cup boiling water
mix the crushed panadol into the vinegar (originally it was dissolve aspro in the vinegar, but I refuse to take aspirin whilst breastfeeding), then add the honey and the boiling water and stir until all dissolved. Drink while hot.
The panadol helps with the aches and pains, the honey soothes the throat and the steam from the boiling water helps clear the nose - not sure what the vinegar does, but overall, this concoction works ... cleared me up in about 2 or 3 days. I was taking Nyal cold and flu tablets (they are all natural) but they are not recommended for bfing mothers, so I switched to this recipe!
Squidipa, hope everything goes well with your appt today hun!
Bear - sounds like you had fun "on the farm"!!
Sasha - when I tried to express with #3, it took me half an hour to get 40mls!!! It felt like I'd get more standing in a hot shower, milk squirting every which way!!!
I just had the early childhood nurse here and she recommended that I drink a couple of cups of chammomile tea before feeding Veygas to help with the wind, so I might try that! I'm a bit worried to give him anything directly (panadol here and there for the pain, but I try to really use that sparingly!) cause I don't know how that will affect his hernia
We had a pretty ordinary night - took him a bit to settle, and his 10pm feed went ok, but he woke at 1am absolutely screaming and when he cried, it was seriously more like sobbing Took me til about 2.30am to settle him before he'd even feed, but then kept him in bed with me and got him to sleep through to 5.45am. Then he slept through to about 9am, with a few little whinges here and there in between, but I'm feeling a bit like rat ***** today!
Vic - that pie sounds yummy!!
to everyone else that I've missed, I think I'm started to read through closed eyelids!!
I am not sure about the pigs feet and ears?!?! But I am curious to hear what you come up with!!
Glad to hear you are on the mend Pixie, I am not sure about the remidies, but you could try tea with honey and lemon, fresh air, maybe some vicks vapour rub or something similar to clear the sinus's..... not sure if any of that was help, also could talk to your chemist and they can probably suggest something
YAY Mehkelti happy one month birthday!!!
How good are you Beema noticing these things! great to hear the gripe water worked. My stepmother used to swear by it with her three kids.
Yeah it's a bit strange having to move the pig's trotters to one side to get the milk out for your cuppa but living with the Bear you get used to that kind of thing! LOL!
Feeling sooo much better today but thanks for the recipes girls! Have been having ginger and ginseng tea with honey and lime juice, which helps while you're drinking it, but wasn't sure if there was any real medicine I could take while bf'ing and was so out of it yesterday I couldn't be bothered to find out! to all and happy nappy shopping Mel - since it's M's birthday you have a perfect excuse!
