yeah, Suidipa, I had a couple of shots of pethidine with my first - same thing, delivering on my back. #2 I was on my back again, only one shot of pethidine. #3 and #4, I didn't trust myself to get through it and ended up getting pethidine only 5-10 minutes before each of them were crowning! So it never kicked in until after they were born (cause they were both so quick! 8min and 5min respectively!) :cryinglaugh:

MM i was induced too so very ouchies very traumatic for me :) But it does help with the bonding rather than here is ya baby and u almost feel like they could have just given you some random child!
The pixie's delivery was augmented with syntocin, so she was also on her back for most of the time..
Not to mention wired up to a drip and CTG monitor so I felt like a cross between an octopus and a beached whale LOL
Hmmm no time for drugs, except gas but that didn't appeal to me!
pixie I know how you felt! I had syntocin, monitor and IV fluids and antibiotics, which meant stuck to the bed, and eventually also an epidural which meant a catheter plus I needed oxygen too... i had tubes and wires coming outta everywhere! Not fun! And really no room for modesty either :redface:
I do sympathies leasha, however i have been lucky NOT to have an emergency c section. I had a spinal and an epidural in so i could administer my own pain relief after delivery. Also fluid bag and the cathader. Im so over cathaders it now doesnt bother me heck saves me getting up to go toilet as the first time ya get up OH MY GOODNESS SO PAINFUL!!!
Once in hospital after an op for a prostier repair and even for c section before iv had nurses watch me do a poo and collect it for specimen thats really oh my not so great put it that way! Ive also been woken in hospital with out warning with some random nurse with there finger up me butt giving me a suppository for pain. Thats happened over two ops but quite a few times over the stay in hospital its really is an invasion hey hello my a**!!!
"bed goes up, bed goes down" - I was also hooked up to drips and monitors but the midwives kept me upright in the bed-that-converts-to-chair thingy, and even let me adjust it to the most comfy possie for me! In fact one of the docs insisted that I be as upright as possible to 'let gravity help get that baby out" (in her own words!) So I think that in that respect I was very lucky!
My 1st ,I had the internal foetal monitor attached to his head so I had the catheter and wasn't allowed to get up sit up or move! Even though I was 27 when I had my 1st, they treated me like a know-nothing teenage mum :rolleyes: (I'm not saying young mums don't know anything, just that's that how I felt) ... doesn't help that I look young (or did at the time) :cryinglaugh:

Yeah its a Sunbeam one that you put inside your doona cover. Instead of it being like an electric blanket underneath you its over top of you, the best invention!! And even better it is dual controlled so hubby and I can have it at different settings! :dance::
Well its a horrible day here today. Been raining constantly and it is freezing :(
Have had a up and down day with Kye. Last night he slept really well. I put him down at 9:30pm and he slept right through till 2:30am this morning. Back in bed at 4am and woke up at 7:30am. This afternoon was a bit of a shocker though. Had a restless couple of hours but finally tuckered himself out at 2pm and is still asleep which is great I needed the time to get a roast chicken in the oven, yum!!
Anyways thats it from me, gotta check on the vege!
HUGE :grouphug: for all you lovely mums that were hooked to to soo many machines that go "ping" :( I was on my back only for a short while at the end, to do the episiotomy, and the pain was excruciating (all my labour pain albeit short was in my back) I could not have imagined being stuck on my back any longer it was terrible, but very lucky it wasn't for long.
OMG Squidipa - what a shock waking up to that!!!
Did anyone fid it really painfull on your belly when they used the doppler to find the heartbeat - towards the end of my labour the were pushing it soo hard on my belly it was hurting more than the contraction?? I ended up telling them to PO cos I could feel her kicking, she was fine, so they stopped, and let me get on with it....

Answer to the question about crying after the birth yep I cried partly because I had to hold on and stop pushing for an hour and partly because this is the last time I was going to have a baby and experience this special moment.
The only time I was on my back was when they checked how far dialated I was and because Allegra was on my back it was soooooo painful. But I did have Cadence on my back and boy it hurt!
Sorry Vic I didn't find it painful when they were looking for the heart I was in the bath did anyone know they can go under water? I was trying to climb out far enough so it would get wet and I wouldn't get electricuted I had no idea they can go underwater :doh:
MM- I wish you heaps of luck with Veygas's op. YAY for your 4.5 year old it's sooo much easier when they can use the toilet :clap:

Beema.. i hated the band on my belly to monitor the heart rate with baby 1 it hurt especially with contractions it was resisting the belly. My waters broke at 2am and i delivered at 7.23pm labour as the hospital would say was 12 hours very ouchies and i was induced. I remember after giving birth all i wanted in my daze was a drink of 7up and something to eat as i wasnt allowed to eat from waters breaking. The ex hubbie ate in delivery room and got food poisoning and was throwing up everywhere, i found this funny hahaha. While pushing i Bit him real hard on his tummy.
When she was born the first words i said was this "how the f*** did she fit in there" I was gob smacked at her 8.5 pound size. I cried when i saw her they layed her briefly on my belly before cutting cord then tried to make her breathe. When i did shower after i turned the shower off the blood would not stop running my feet were covered in it. My support person and hubbie at time had this real bad look on their face. Being my first i had no idea if it was k. The MW walked in and she rushed out of the room then i was concerned. I stuck two pads to my hands and wiped right up the inner parts of my legs starting on my ankles. In hospital i had 4 pads on top of each other and felt like i was constantly in a pool of blood. I remember being wheeled back to my room and i made the MW stop as we passed some scales and i jumped on i had lost 4 kilo :) pretty cool being i gained 40 in that pregnancy.
I never saw my mother intill 1 week after delivering. Second born it was 1.5 weeks after 3rd born my sister made her come so saw her on day 3. baby 4 well i am in diff state. My mother didnt live far away. Her priorities obviously was not i. While on the topic of special event and not having family there my first wedding both my sisters did not come. My sister inlaw arrive 1 hour late so we delayed wedding. The second wedding i decided to marry in NZ without any family there just hubbies family. It went real well every detail was planed for a real reason. Everything defined who we are. We didnt have a big cake just a small mudcake but over 100 mud cupcakes towers down on a several level cake stand.
Gee im going off on my memory banks arnt i hehe :D gotta scoot now hubbie made me cake. In a love heart tin. Well sorry hubbie im still bleeding so no deed today hehe Any one esle still bleeding?

So DH came home from work today and said that MIL is coming down next Thursday and she wants to babysit for the day and that I am to go out for the day and leave some EBM behind for Nakita!
Ok so this was a bit of a surprise to me, would have been nice for me to chose when I was ready to leave her home without me, she will be 10 weeks 3 days/4 weeks corrected, she is doing fine, fully BF'd generally pretty happy bub.
I have left her with DH one evening and went to the movies, but was in tears driving into town and couldn't get home quick enough.
How did you go leaving your little one with someone else for the day? What did you do? I just don't know if I am ready for this and would have preferred it to be me that made the decision, not be "told" IYKWIM.
I would be more than happy for her to come and spend the day with us, but I don't wannt be "kicked out", or forced to leave her!!!
There are times when yeah I need a break and just need to get out for a bit, but I'm just not mentally prepared for this - I was thinking about having to maybe organise something at the end of the month when we have a wedding to go to, and not sure if Nakita can come or not.
Aurgghhhh... I just don't know... any support would be great!!! Ways I can deal with it, suggestions on what I should do...

Beema - Probably not what you want to hear, but this may not be a bad thing...
I suspect it's one of those things that you are just never really comfortable doing for the first time, and the only way forward is to try it and get better at dealing with it each time.
We pre-booked tickets to a show several months ago, so that we would have a fixed deadline for letting Beth spend the evening with a baby sitter....the show is next week, so she will be 4 weeks old.
You have a week to prepare for it, you can control how it works and what you do - try to come up with some ground rules that you can be happy with, maybe plan a couple of shorter things to do and come back home in the middle of the day to check how everything is going....just try to find some compromise situation that you think you can accept.
The Bear thanks for your opinion :) - I guess I have in my head the end of the month, and was working the logistics out for that, and am I am annoyed that I have been told that this is what is happening, that it wasn't a joint decision.
I am not as fussed with evenings as DH gives her a bottle of EBM anyway, so it is part of her routine and I have found that when we switch the feed we do the bottle it throws Nakita outa wack, so I prefer that when we do that, I am around to read the signs for giving her more or less, determining if there for a top up. Nakita is a pretty routine girl, which comes from being in SC for 11 days, and continuing with it when we were out cos of the need to gaim weight.
And really there are a heap of things I want to get done around the place but can't really do atm - like whipper snippering - I have no chance hearing that baby monitor with the engine going - and we have only just started getting good weather, weed spraying (I don't want to be halfway through and need to pick up Nakita). I think I will be best to go out and do a couple of things then get a heap of jobs done at home while MIL looks after her.
Squidipa - I live in Nambour. But I'm happy to come down to Morayfield to meet up next Thursday if you want? And I can't believe a nurse shoved something up your rear end without asking first... helloooo thats shocking!!!
Leasha - I understand about not immediately bonding with your bub - sometimes I still don't feel like I'm DS's mother - and he's 20 months!!!
Vic - I think I need your talents as a LA here - our gardens are a mess and we need to do some serious work before selling!!! And I think I would like to be asked if someone wanted to mind either of my children, but I would be ok with leaving them, IYKWIM? Hey, you should get fluffy mail today :)
MM - I hope V sleeps well for you today - without you holding him - we had a day like that yesterday :) I hope you are taking it easy - try not to worry too much about the operation, I'm sure they will only do it if absolutely necessary :hug: I hope something happens with that ultrasound?? oh and woohoo for toilet training!! I know who to come to for tips now...(oh and don't know anything about Stanthorpe except for where it is!!)
Pixie - you have every right to feel proud of yourself for what you achieved. Please don't let anything interfere with feeling that - because you own the right to have that.. *mwah*
