Sasha I have tried wholemeal bread toasted cut in to soldiers, and also just bread again cut in to soldiers. Don't worry about the gagging, that is normal. Babies have a better gag reflex than we do and are able to bring bits of food back up to start again.

Gagging: Coughing, spluttering, turning red, tears in eyes, moving, breathing
Choking: Turning blue, not breathing, passing out, not moving

As long as you are there supervising he should be just fine. I'm not mashing anything and just letting him feed himself while I watch and talk to him. If he does start to gag don't panic, because you are more likely to trigger the startle reflex in them and they will take a sharp intake of breath which could lead to choking. Jett has only had one scary gag so far, but all I did was gently pick him up and laid him over my arm on his belly and he was all good again in 5 secs and looking for more food! It wasn't with bread either! Take a look at the baby led solids thread which explains all this far better than I can.

The local CFA siren keeps going off, we are in a bushfire area, so all a bit scary with this searing heat. I hope it isn't anything major.

7 months...wow! I still cant get over the fact that G is nearly half a year old!!

MT: that story made me sob, for the mother and other family, how terrible! The poor little angel! My friends little girl just turned 4 and its so hard to imagine how this could have happened!

Sasha: i wonder why the apricots were so bitter, ours turned out quite sweet!? like you said, now you will just have to make a cake with them...yum!!

A big hug to all those coping with this 45+ heat wave....i dont know how i would cope....i think id have to get on a plane and leave, 35 is hot enough for me!!!

Grace is slowly becoming more mobile, no way could you leave her on the bed now(not that we do ), within seconds she is on her tummy and off towards the edge...and we have a huge bed!! i sit on the floor with my legs out, her on one side and a toy on the other and she climbs over my legs to get her toy, a bit uncoordinated atm and normally lands on her face but loves it, i think she is going to be a little monkey. When she is on her tummy, she straightens her legs and ends up in standing on her toes with her bum up in the air resting in her for arms, like a downward dog (or what ever its called) in Yoga. So funny to watch!!
    Hi to all.

    HAPPY SEVEN MONTHS NAKITA!!!!
I just can't believe she's seven months already!
Sash I just tear off a bit of crust and give it to her to chew on..... Not sure if anything goes in, but she enjoys chewing it. I have one of the Tommee Tippee things too, usually put grapes in it, just out of the fridge, not frozen, and I bite them first to break the skin. She seems to like that but she often ends up chewing on the wrong end of it. Haven't given her orange in it but she has had pieces of orange to chew on and she loved it. I kind of mix and match the BLS and mashing. but really I'm pretty lazy so I have given her banana and avocado just mashed up with a fork so still quite lumpy. I mixed them with BM or prune juice (the banana) and it all went down well.
MT I have had the odd panic with gagging.... have to be more calm about it, but having said that it didn't seem to worry Beth at all.
Vic, that weather is just wrong. Hope it cools down big time for you very soon!
Good day today, did some cleaning, went to visit my stepmum, dad and brother, then had mum's group. Might pop down to the pool for a quick swim and then attempt to put madam to bed. She seems to have a high maintenance period between about 7 and 9 so we'll see how it goes! Laters people!

Awww Squidipa. I knopw how you feel, I felt like that when the memory card on my new camera stuffed up and I lost sooooooooo many photos from a holiday in NZ. It made me feel sick with disappointment. Although there wasn't anything I could have done with that as it stuffed up the first time I tried to download the photos.
But big hugs cos I really do know how you feel.

Hi everyone!! Long time no see!!

We are nicely settled in our own place down in Vic, we stayed with a friend for a little while but we decided to look for a place of our own- and rentals here are soooooo cheap!! (150 per week compared to the 350 we were paying up north!!!)

DH is busy busy busy- he found work the third day we were here at a Seed packing factory- he loves it as its something new and different and not dependant on the weather like his demolition or fencing were. Plus he gets to drive a forklift- which he loves!! And its good for his bung knee!!

I have joined two mothers groups here and its been really great, we live really close to town- which is something we havent done for a long time- but i love it- Shane and i cruise around in the pram and i hardly ever have to drive anywhere anymore!! All in all our move has been 100% fantastic and the best thing we could have done for ourselves!!

Well Shane has grown heaps since i last posted- well technically not physically growing too much more- he seems to have reached a peak and has stopped gaining so much weight- we are still yet to cross the 7kg mark, but he is looking healthy and in propertion so im not too worried.
He is rolling EVERYWHERE now- both ways!! He makes it sooooo hard come nappy changing time!! He just wriggles everywhere!! He is a pro at comando crawing, and gets right up on his back legs and kind of does a hand stand and then pushes himself forward, very funny to watch!! He is cute, he hasnt managed to get on all fours yet- he swaps from using his legs to his arms, but hasnt co-ordinated doing both at the same time, but im sure he is not far away!!
He is getting better at sitting on his own, but not 100% there just yet, i still need to stay close coz he tends to face plant, and our new house has wooden floors, so i am a bit wary. But i can sit him in the corner of the couch and he sits on his own and then has something soft to fall against when he sways!!

We have put him in a jollie jumper which he just LOVES!!! He bounces constantly!! Giggles and laughs the time away!! So cute to watch!!

We have been doing some solids, mainly just farex with BM, but we have started to add some pureed fruit in the morning and vege at night, so far he has tried apple, banana and pear and pumpkin and sweet corn, he is not too sure about the pumpkin!! I think he is getting close to trying some finger foods, but i have been a bit wary, i might try a rusk!!

Teeth are not far wawy- but mind you i have been saying that for a few months now!! lol I am sure they are pushing through slowly, he is a drool machine and we have had a few unsettled night where he will cry and munch down hard on my nipples!!! Oh the fun of Bfeeding!!!

He isnt sleeping through anymore, he wakes a few times during the night- and i have gotten lazy and just bring him into bed with us- which i think i will have to stop doing soon coz i think some nights he is just waking up coz we are not there, he isnt hungry he just wants to snuggle, which is cute and sweet, but i think he needs to learn to sleep alone at sometime!!

Oh and this week we have a mystery rash!! It started as a nappy rash thing on his very lower belly (like just above his willy) and then has progressed to spreading ALL over his body!! We have been to the Dr who thinks it is excema, but i am not so sure- it has been super hot here, and it seemed to get aggrivated when we have been in the car and out in the heat- so i am hoping its just a heat rash and will go away soon, if it hasnt disapeared in the next few days i will go back to the dr for a 2nd opinion, it doesnt seem to bother him at all, its not itchy, just blotchy and bumpy and red, i think i am more worried about it then he is!! any ideas or anyone who has had anything similar, i would love some peace of mind!!

Well thats pretty much it form us- i have read a few posts, but not all (there were waaaaay too many!!) But i hope everyone is doing really well and all bubs are healthy and happy!!!

HAPPY 7TH MONTH NAKITA!! I cant beleive how fast our bubs are growing up!!!!!!!

    Take care everyone

    Welcome back SB and Shane!!

Glad to hear the move went well. Which town are you in? Shane sounds like he is doing just wonderfully and you are not alone in the broken nights. There are a few of us experiencing the same thing.

Jett also got a rash in the nappy area the other day at the start of this heat wave, but I put it down to heat rash and he has spent most of the week lying on a towel and mat nude and it has cleared up just nicely. So you could try that, maybe even put some nappy rash cream on and just let the air do it's thing. I hope it clears up soon for you.

GTG, Jett is awake and huuuuuungry!

Thanks MT, we are in Corryong VIC- yeah the nurse at the hospital said it may have been heat rash, thats when it was mainly in his nappy area, we have tried no nappy, plenty of barrier cream and keeping him cool, but it flares up even when i touch him, after it spread i went to the dr and thats when he said excema, but that doesnt seem right to me coz neither shane or i get it and it doesnt seem itchy. I am hoping it clears soon!!

Welcome back Starbright, glad the move went well!

Just a quick one from me - Kye is asleep. This morning for brekky was apple, mango, pear and banana - he it!
Had 3 tablespoons full with a bit of farex. Doesnt really like farex so I have to disguise it hehe

Cant wait till the 17th Feb I can put him onto the 6+ month stuff
I'm going to buy the Rafferty's Banana Porridge and might even have a look at the 6m Vaalia yoghurts too.

MT - hows the weather today in Melbourne... still hot I guess?

Squid - bugger about the photos. I'm in the same boat. Our home pc has died and that had all the labour and hospital pics on it. I am kinda bummed I didnt transfer them onto my laptop, I thought I did but nup havent so unless I can work out what is wrong with the drive I guess I have lost them might take it into a computer place and see if they can fix it. It keeps turning itself off so it might be something as simple as just needing new hardware

Anyways thats it from me for now, off to get some jobs done.

    Have a good weekend everyone

the other day we picked up a Fisher Price Bounce & Spin Zebra from ebay and man oh man does josh love it obviously i have to hold him but he is mad about it, also it goes from 12-36 months so a good buy for long item use or 19 kilo so my 3 year old is having fun too. It spins and bounces plays music and flashes it's GREAT!! I had never seen one before buying this i collected it on the train line they just dropped it off for me. Josh loves to stand up and hold on to it and grab the bouncy bits and eat them lol. Some one just listed another on in Brisbane strange that i never seen it b4 and now there is another on there.

heck theres a heap of them now lol
