Babies Born August 1st ~ 15th 2009 #2

Saffi - If she's been unwell it could just be a harmless viral rash. Very common in babies.

We had a bad night here last night too :wall: Not sure if its his teeth that are bothering him because the last two nights have been very average. It was very cool last night too for the first time in ages and he felt cold when I picked him up. I'm going to transition him from a wrap to a sleeping bag before it gets too cool. We have very cold nights here over winter. I ended up feeding him twice because I was just so tired but managed two resettles without feeding so I guess that's some progress.

Better go, off to see Hi-5 with my 2yo today, MIL is going to watch D for me for an hour or so.

Bad night for us too!

Lochie was up and down all night from about 12:30am onwards. He woke at 2am and threw up, projectile style, all over his bed, himself and me, so dh held him and changed his clothes while I changed his sheets. Then he was back to bed, and woke on and off for about an hour, then to sleep till 6:30am. Poor little thing was so pale, so I let him snuggle with us for a while until he dozed off again, then put him back to bed. A stupid door was banging last night due to the strong winds, so I had to get up and find which door was doing it and create a make shift wedge to stop it banging. I think that was what was keeping him from going back to sleep for an hour or so. He seems to be better today, im pretty sure it was his dinner that did it. We gave him some pasta and veggie mash last night...me thinks we have a gluten intolerant baby on our hands. I was the same as a baby....gluten and lactose intolerant! No more of that, thats for sure!

As for settling techniques - I dont rock lochie to sleep, he doesnt tolerate that very well...too squirmy! I just wrap him and put the dummy in, and lay him down. I stay with him for a minute or so, sometimes stroke his cheek or ear (he seems to love this) or place my hand over his chest until he seems settled. That usually does the trick. Lochie is a great self soother, I have never really had to rock him (except for when he is overtired and needs some help to settle) I have always just put him down and he puts his head to the side and stares till he falls asleep. I am still amazed at his ability to do this, as ds1 needed me to rock him, feed him to sleep or lay with him till he was about 2yrs old. I dont feed lochie to sleep during the day, he has a feed then i sit him up and make sure we have a cuddle, a kiss and say goodnight, then he goes down awake and falls asleep on his own. I have done this from day 1 so he is pretty used to it, and now doesnt fall asleep feeding, except for when he is REALLY tired or upset, and I wouldnt dare wake him! Every now and then, he has a little protest and whinges as I lay him down, but I just tell him its ok, do the settling techniques mentioned above and walk away. He usually settles within a few minutes. On the vary RARE occassion that he is continues to protest, I either go in, re-wrap him (even if he is still wrapped), put the dummy back in, say the same things again, and walk away OR if I can see that he is spitting the dummy and struggling to much (a good indication that he is NOT ready for sleep) I get him up, have a play and a cuddle, maybe a top up feed for half hour or so and then try again. But overnight, he never needs this, just goes straight back to sleep. Our problem is not settling but too many waking episodes throughout the night (in the last few weeks...maybe just teeth?). Still, he has more good nights than bad I suppose.

Saffi - I hope M's rash goes away soon. Its good its not bothering her, and as mentioned, its pretty common I think.

Willow - have fun at hi-5 and WTG on resettling twice without feeding...thats great progress...moving forward!!!!!

Bad night here too :lol: obviously was the night for it! And we were not helped by DH having to get up at 4am for a work trip to Melbourne for the day. But actually, yesterday was not real good either, she decided that 20 mins was all she needed for her three naps yesterday and had her grumpy pants on in between.

Willow - I think we were the same here, E was just cold :( It wasn't too bad when I put her to bed, but it got really cool here early in the morning. She felt pretty cold when I picked up at one stage and was happy to snuggle under the sheet which she doesn't normally do. And nope you hadn't mentioned about a move up to here :) So what area are you looking at? Are you moving up here because of work, or do just want to move here? Sorry about all the nosy questions! I haven't had time lately to post in Parenting AML :redface: really do have to try and make an effort in the next couple of days. Have fun at Hi 5!

Saffi - E had a rash on her neck and back when she was sick too, its probably nothing to worry about. I believe they say that as long as you can press on it and it disappears then its nothing to worry about. :hug: poor little girl.

Rach - GL with teaching today! I've never had much luck with the rocking and settling with E, she just screams her head off and I give in and feed her LOL But that's greeat that its working for you and Eli :)

Issy - Hope things settle for you and Lochie soon :hug: Bummer about the food.

Hi everyone I've missed!

AFU, well the cool night has spurred a bout of shopping! E and I hit the shops to get clothes for both the girls this morning and we just got back - phew! She loves getting out and about but man, last night was a hard night I'm so glad we are back home. She spat out all her solids again yesterday, but in the evening she enjoyed sucking on a piece of pasta. So I'm thinking that a bit more BLS may be the way to go like you said Willow.

Done a bit of net surfing and I think she has Roseola infantum, which is a very common mild rash mostly brought on by a high temperature. She had a high temp over the weekend so that fits.

It was cold here overnight too so that could have been part of the problem too. I really should go and get some cold weather clothes for her too, but I think we'll have a few months of higher temp so should hold off a bit longer. Also DS has a lot of cold weather pjs so might dig those out.

Got to be quick unsettled bub....

Willow - same prob as you and Saffi with the cold here too last night - he felt cold when I picked him up...poor darling. Well, he does insist on crawling around his cot and taking the sheets off. I think we'll end up using a sleeping bag. Anyone used one and like them?? Well done with settling too!

Megsmum - Great idea with BLS, I want to try it but I must admit I am scared of chocking. Probably being silly, maybe cause I don't know enough about it but sounds great! Must get reading. I hope E is more settled tonight hun :hug:

issy - oh dear, hope my lil darling isn't gluten intolerant. Follow your gut, one thing I know for sure is that you have great instincts.

AFU - teaching was great (ended up being in my old classroom - so bizarre! Good to get out there and teach at last). Eli had a great day with his daddy and I missed him and was so excited to get home. Also, wanted to feed him - BADLY :lol:!

Rach - I was meaning to ask you about Eli's rash as I thought it could have been the same thing. How bizarre teaching in your old classroom.

Well, M is spending her first night in her own room. Have moved the basinette in there. Hopefully in a few days or so we can move her into the cot.

Issy - D is exactly the same as Lochie in that he has self settled beautifully pretty much from birth. VERY different from my first son also. I am still amazed that I just put him down and walk away and within minutes he is alseep. No dummy, nothing. Night seems to be different for some reason. He has not worked out how to resettle himself when he wakes at night. Either that or he is genuinely hungry/cold/something is up. I think that's why I am just not sure what to do at night because I don't know how to settle him because I've never really had to - does that make sense? I don't know if rocking would work, or patting would be better etc etc. The other night I ended up just picking him up and giving him a cuddle then putting him back down. Also gave him a sip of water and some teething gel. After a little while this worked and he went off to sleep.

Last night was a MUCH better night with only two wake ups all night. I did a dream feed at 10pm and then fed him again at about 3am. But then was up with DD who is sick and not at school today - can't win!! :lol:

Sleeping bags - have used them with both of my older children once the weather cooled off and love them. I usually wait till the weather cools and then transition from wrap to sleeping bag. D is in the process now and is currently sleeping with one arm out, one in. Today I will try him with both arms out and when he is used to that will wrap just around his waist for a few days then get rid of it all together. Bit over wrapping him to be honest so looking forward to it going!

We were also going to head out today to get some warmer clothes for D and also some jumpers and pants for DD for school. But as I said she's not well and we have a Drs appt at 12pm so will see how she is feeling and may duck out after that. D has gone from sleeping in a nappy and singlet to long sleeved onesie within a few days! Nuts.

Megs - We just want to move :) The only reason we are waiting is DH has a really good job here in Sydney and they are opening up a new site up there. So we are just waiting on that and praying they will transfer him up there. We are looking at Lemon Tree Passage. Mako thinks we're nuts cause she doesn't like the area LOL, but we really like it and it's only about 20 mins from where DH would be working.

Willow - im not sure as to what you could do to settle bubs during the night. Perhaps just stick with what you are doing now, and as he gets older, he will probably sort himself out at night. I personally wouldnt start rocking now, just because you havent had to do it before and you probably dont want to have to do this every night, especially as he gets bigger, it can be very hard on your back. Perhaps patting might do the trick? Glad to hear last night was a better night for you. Ours was better too, just the one wake up for a feed at 2 and another one early morning (6am) just to re-wrap and dummy. He was asleep, just getting restelss and a calling out in his sleep. Here's hoping for another good night for both of us :pray:.
Also, im starting to transition lochie out of the wrap too, just the one arm at the moment, them the other as he gets used to falling asleep with is arms around his face. Then we will go onto the sleeping bag. I have a summer and winter one, so not sure which one to with first. Its still fairly warm in our house at the moment, so am thinking the winter one might be too warm.

Saffi - hope m went well in her own room last night. And good luck on the move to the cot. Lochie was much better at the transition than I expected. Although, since moving his sleeping during the night has not been near as consistent and good as it used to be. But im not sure this has anything to do with the cot because his day sleeps are still great.

tippytoes - thanks hun :) Ill be using a sleeping bag. I think they are a good idea. I think it would be good for our wee Eli too, since he loves to explore the parameters of his cot at night :lol: cuuuutttteeee!!!!

Sounds like everyone had a good night. We moved M into her own room so I was a bit nervous how she would go. DH dreamfed her before he went to bed and I got up to her at 4am for a quick feed, and we got up for the day at 7am. She slept in her basinette. Trying at the moment to put her in her cot but she wakes instantly and carries on. So might keep her in the basinette for a little longer.

Just a quick one while E is asleep, I reckon I've got about another 10 mins before she wakes up LOL Not much happening here, still not sleeping much by day or night :wall: and DH is going away for work next week for 3 days the exact same day she is having her needles argh! Then he's away for a week and a half as of the 21st - so not looking forward to it :(

Willow - Glad yesterday was a better night, sounds like a plan with the patting. Its hard to know what will work sometimes isn't it? I haven't had a lot of luck with patting E, she just rolls over and looks at me and smiles :rolleyes: Hmmm Lemon Tree Passage, I don't know that its all that bad up there, at least it is not too far away from Newcastle and not far away from Port Stephens either - but I'd be a little worried about noise from the RAAF though. I'm not saying I wouldn't ever live there though LOL although I know DH wouldn't - but that's only because it would take him ages to get to work from up there, he works out in the sticks near Kurri. Hope DD is feeling better today too :)

Rach - I know how you feel about the choking, my DH is the same because when DD1 was 6 months old she almost choked on a piece of rockmelon. So I'm being extra careful with E. But she liked gumming a piece of bread yesterday. As for the sleeping bags I have a Grobag for E and think its pretty good. Although she is not a big fan LOL because it gets in the way of her rolling over :rolleyes: But I used a sleeping bag for ages with DD1 and I do want to get E back into one especially when the weather gets colder.

Just quick hello everyone.

All the kids a sick at the moment, which sucks as we were meant to be going away for the long weekend - hopefully they get better in thee neext 24hrs.

Plus I am all over the shop emotionally at the moment. so much has been happening. I helped out a girl who had been beaten by her boyfriend (or so she said, don't know what to think now) and she stole my brand new (one week old) mobile phone off me. So yesterday I had to fork out even more money (that we aren't supposed to be spending) to replace the phone, because I still have to pay for the contract.

Anyway just thought I would pop in and say 'hi'. Will post properly later when I have more time.

Misty - Wow, that's awful! I'm glad you got a new phone. Try not to think too much about hte money, there's not much you can do about it now. :hug: Hope the kids are better so you can go away.

Megs - What RAAF?? LOL Better mention that to DH but I'm sure he's aware of it even if I'm not! What area are you in? Lemon Tree seems to be much more affordable than a lot of the areas closer to Newcastle. We also want to be a bit 'out of town' and it's close to the water so that's why it appeals to us I guess.

DD has been sick too, she has a throat infection but has been well enough to go back to school the last two days.

We had the worst. night. ever last night! I got hardly any sleep between 3am and 6am. It was the pits. I don't know what was wrong, he is just about to cut his top two teeth so maybe that was it but whatever it was, I hope he's over it!

Feeling a bit disheartened about this sleep business. So frustrating and not sure how to move forward to try and get him to sleep through eventually. Meh. :(

Willow - RAAF at Williamtown :) Not very far away at all, but probably best to talk to some of the locals and see just how bad the noise is, I could be talking out of my rear end LOL But you are right about the house prices around here, thay are getting to be just ridiculous. We live in the Wallsend area BTW and I grew up in Lake Macquarie, it is nice out there but we like being closer to town I guess which is why we ended up here. That and it is nice and bushy where we are which I love apart from the odd bushfire!! Oh no about your night though :( That is seriously bad :hug: wish I didn't know how you feel, but I was feeling the same about the sleep business yesterday too, although I'm a bit better today. I could not get her to sleep much in the morning and by the time she finally fell asleep in the afternoon it was 2.30 and almost time to go and get DD1 from school :wall: So she only slept for about 1 hour all up yesterday and by the end of the day was crying every time I put her down to do something :( I had been asked by a friend to go out for her birthday and was seriously close to calling it off, but in the end just decided to up and go and get out for just 1 hour. I'm so glad I did, I was just about ready to slit my wrists :(

Misty - Oh no that sucks about your phone and about the kids :hug: I hope they are all better so you can have your long weekend away.

Misty : Sorry to hear you're all sick. All the bugs seem to be going around early this year. Hope you are feeling better and get to enjoy your weekend! So terrible to hear that this ungrateful woman stole your phone. Try not to dwell on it (easier said than done!).

Willow: Hope you get more sleep tonight. Try not to feel too disheartened as most of us are in the same boat. DD still won't sleep through the day and is awake at least 2 but 3-4 times a night then up for the day by 530 lately.

DD has got cranky... again BBL.

Thanks girls. I'm trying not to let it get to the point it did with DS1, I seriously became obsessed and miserble about his sleep (which in fairness was pretty bad compared to my other two) and I refuse to go back there. He sleeps well during the day most of the time and we have our good nights too so maybe that will just have to do for now.

Just popping in to give my friend Willow a hug :hug:. My eyes are hanging out of my head atm too. Two nights ago K came down with a cold and woke me constantly, add to that a bad night with Alana and I'm still paying for it today! She woke a couple of times last night too, it was a hot night and she needed an extra feed which is unusual for her. Luckily after her 5am feed she slept until 8am, but I'd prefer if she'd just sleep solidly, even if it meant she woke up at 7am!

Trish - Thank you :hug: I've consoled myself a bit today reading some stuff on the Dr Sears webstie and reminding myself this is normal baby behavour :rolleyes: He was fine up until about 3am and then I'd just get back to sleep and he'd wake again. No idea what was going on. He then slept from 6am to 8.15am but I'm the same, soooo tired today.

I didn't have to do the school run this afternoon because DH is home and he slept for 2 hours this afternoon. So frustrating because normally I have to wake him from that sleep knowing he'd probably sleep a lot longer but then refuses to have a late afternoon nap. :wall:

Here's hoping for a better night....

AFU - awful terrbile night - Eli thought it was time to PARTY at 1-3 and again 4:30-6. followed by DH having an awful low blood sugar (has type 1 diabetes since he was 3) - nearly had to call the ambulance. PLUS I got called into work today (called @ 7:45 for a 8:15 start!!!!!!!! NICE!!!!!!!) In my hurry I backed into my sisters car that mum drove to our house to look after DS. So upsetting - luckily my sis is awesome and isn't too worried though it is a pretty good hit, so will have to fix :wall::wall::wall: So quite a funny day! On the positive side the kids were great!

Sorry to hear some of the bubs have been unwell too. Hope they all start to feel better soon.
To answer the question about squealing - DS was doing this & I tried really hard to ignore it. Seemed to work, at least he stopped thankfully it was doing my head in!!

Willow - to answer your question about settling at night, DS uses a dummy for sleeps. So overnight I'll pop it back in, sometimes that all he needs, but other times he'll start crying so I'll feed him.

Trish - had abit of a giggle over Alana's monthly milestones!! Very clever of her, maybe she'll say her first word at 7 months :p I keep DS up for about 2 hours, he has improved though in the last few days thankfully!!

Misty - what a pain in the butt about your phone!!

Tippy - hope you had a better day today.

AFM our little holiday was great. DS traveled really well as long as we stopped every 90 mins & gave him a decent break. Certainly different to getaways pre baby though!!
DS has turned a corner big time which is fantastic. Was having terrible trouble with settling him for most of his sleeps but he is back to self settling.
He has finally sat!! Did that on top of Mt Buller the other day so will now sit in the pram & highchair without carrying on :dance:

Cheezel - Glad to hear your boy is back to self settling! I read your post about having trouble settling hm, it's NOT fun when that happens. Happened often with DS1 until he was about 10 months. D doesn't have a dummy, never worked when he was unsettled and he has always self settled to sleep so I gave up on them. Sometimes I wish he did have one but I know that when we're heading towards 2 I'll be happy he doesn't cause I had to do the whole 'weaning' off the dummy with DD. It wasn't that big a deal but I've been thankful not to have to do it with DS1.

Had a pretty average night last night but I was tired so I just fed him back to sleep. See how we go tonight.

Hey Willow, same here! It's been a tough few nights. I have been feeding him to sleep - about 3 times a night. I have basically decided that is just how it is at the moment and I am cool with that. I'll just keep following my instincts I think. Also, you mentioned Dr Sears, I had a look at his website and really like it. Thanks for that :D

Willow - KWYM about the dummy. We have yet to discard L's. He is seriously attached to it. That's one of the reasons I haven't given M one.

Hi to everyone else!

AFU - M now has 5 teeth (2 bottom and 3 top). She's having solids 2 times a day, just RC and fruit gel at the moment. Going to try pumpkin tonight. M is sleeping in her cot at this very second - her first time.

M starts daycare tomorrow. I have to put her bag together with all her stuff, write out her routine, label her things, make up bottles etc. Feeling a bit sad about it all :crying: In one way it will be good so I can have a bit of a break and relax before I go back to work. There are heaps of things that I would like to do that I haven't been able to do in the last 7 months!

Me too :redface: Sick of fighting it for now. Besides that he isn't well and is cutting teeth so now isn't the time. Last night was pretty good, only fed twice overnight, slept in 4-5 hour blocks. Happy with that.

Both my boys are sick atm, think it's croup :( D not too bad but his big brother isn't well at all. Off to the GP tomorrow, hopefully if I call early enough he will open up some more appts :crossfingers:

Saffi - 5 teeth, wowsers! D still hasn't popped through his top two, they're taking their time. The third on the bottom is still playing peek a boo - can see it one day, gone the next :dunno:

just popping in quickly - ive decided to just go with the flow at the moment too. Lochie seems to have a few good nights, then a bad one, then back to ok. Im happy with the way things are, he'll sleep more when he is ready. If there is one thing that having a child before him has taught me is that it doesnt last forever, I will get a full nights sleep again...one day...and he's so little right now. Im still not going to feed him everytime he wakes, but only because that doesnt seem to be what he needs. But ill get up to him and confort him, tuck him back in and stroke his face...whatever he needs to help him feel safe and secure and go back to sleep.

Meh. Sick baby boy who is not sleeping very well at all :(

Well I'm on my own :( Both DS and M are at daycare. Took M in late morning after her morning sleep. Only had a little teary as I left her. Came home to a bomb-site of a house so I know what I'll be doing over the next few days to take my mind off it LOL.

M spent the night in her cot. Got up to her twice overnight but after a quick feed she settled ok. Given that she will be sleeping in a cot at daycare I'm hoping that she gets used to it quickly.

Yeah, 5 teeth! She's been biting me too! Ouch!

Willow- :hug: hope bubs is better soon so you can get some rest ...

Saffi - you did well hun! I bet she doesn't bite you tonight, she'll be excited to see you :)

Eli has got is second tooth :dance: Hopefully he will have some relief, although I am positive it will be short lived!

Ended up only having 3 hours to myself before daycare rang and asked me to come get her. She was inconsolable and no amount of rocking, patting, food, bottle or even a visit from her brother was able to calm her down. As soon as I got there she cheered up. I spent about an hour there feeding and playing with her. They recommended shorter days to start with and for me to stay around for a while so that she knows that it is a safe place etc. Poor thing is so exhausted she fell asleep as soon as we got home. Tomorrow I'm going in with her first thing and hang around for a while and leave when she goes down for a sleep. Lucky I have a month to settle her in.

Well we survived a wild weekend of storms here - DP was off camping at a music festival :o but luckily all they had there was a lot of rain - not the golf ball sized hail that fell in the city. Still no teeth to see here but by goodness they were giving her grief this weekend! Have ordered an amber necklace - hope it gets here soon!

You are absolutely right!!!! Lochie has been such a great sleeper, right from day 1, but now is up every 2-3 hours from 2am. I suppose thats only 2 wakes before 6am, which is when he comes into our bed for a cuddle every morning, but im not used to the lack of sleep and whilst im coping well during the day, im shattered first thing!
Hope the amber necklace works! Let us know how it goes.

Saffi - oh dear, dont worry too much, I used to work in childcare and its not uncommon for babies to cry the first few times, but they soon settle in. Its a great idea to go with her and stay for a bit too, just so she knows its ok and a safe place. Another good thing is make sure you say goodbye everytime, that way she will know you are going, and make a big deal about picking her up i.e. give huge cuddles and smooches. This way she will know you are going but you will be back and its great when she sees you again. Loads of mums used to think it was best to sneak out quietly so their kids didnt notice and become upset, but the kids only got scared when they remembered mum WAS there, and now she's gone and they panic. Saying goodbye to a crying baby is hard, but it helps them in the long run as they learn saying goodbye is not a bad thing and that mum will come back. Im sure she will be just fine :D

Tippytoes - yay for a second tooth!!!! No teeth for a yet, but lots of dribble and biting, and a few whingy hours a day...not far off I think!

Willow - you poor thing - hope the kids are better today, there's nothing worse than sick children, poor little mites! Here's to a speedy recovery.

Elle - 5:30 :o Lochie has had a few 6am starts, and I dont like it (putting it VERY nicely) still, cant let him see that, he gives me such warm smiles in the morning, whatever the time, so cant help but smile right back at him...albeit with eyes hanging out of my head!

Megsmum - oh hun, dont we all have those days everynow and then when the thought of running out waving a white flag above your head, just seems so fitting? Hope you had a better weekend, :hug:

AFU - have started 2 meals a day with lochie now as I think he is ready. Ill do this for a week then introduce lunch! I also tried a dreamfeed last night at about 9:30...MADE NO DIFFERENCE TO SLEEP!!!!! There is one last thing to try...since lochie has started having 2 hour naps a day (3 times a day), some are not all 2 hours but are at least an hour and a half...he has slept CRAP at night, so im thinking, is he getting too much sleep during the day? He used to be a 40min catnapper during the day, and although I could get bugger all done, he used to sleep all night. So, today, although it seems cruel, im going to wake him up (gently-by opening his door and turning the tv up) after 1 hour, and see how he goes tonight. :pray: Otherwise, im going to have to suck it up and get on with things...am I just a sook?

Issy - Sounds like a plan. 6 hours sleep a day is a lot for most babies this age. The general advice for this age is about 3-4 hours during the day I think (taking into account that each bub is different and has different sleep requirements). It might help, it might not, but you can only try! We've been on solids twice a day for a while now. He is still only eating small amounts of food though so I'm not concerned. Will probably up it to 3 times a day in the next few weeks.

I ended up bringing D into our room in the portacot last night because I couldn't sleep worrying about his coughing and dodgy breathing :( He hasn't been sleeping well during the day either which is hard. I'm not used to it and find it frustrating when he doesn't sleep long enough for me to get stuff done. But not much I can do with a sick bub so am just attempting to resettle but not pushing him too much.

Have decided to ditch the wrap all together. He is getting out of it and getting tangled which I don't like. So far... OK...but will see how we go! :crossfingers:

He has finally cut his top two teeth. Long way to go before they are completely 'out' but I can feel them now.

Hope it works too Koru. We have had Eli's on for about two weeks, I am sorry to say I don't think it has made a difference. However, in all fairness he did have his 6 month imm and a virus in that time. So now I know he is well, I'll keep persevering with it. I SO want it to work :lol:

Issy - Nah, I don't think you're being a sook ;) Sounds like it is worth a try though, E certainly doesn't sleep that much during the day, you never know it could be affecting his night sleeps.

Willow - Sorry to hear you are all sick :hug: Hope D is feeling better soon, it sure does suck when you and your bub are both sick, not to mention other kids. We ditched the wrap a while ago for the same reason and E doesn't seem to mind - don't know what I'm going to do over winter though, I'm thinking a pair of longies or Babylegs LOL BTW I had a lovely chat to Mako yesterday, was nice to meet her, will have to organise a meetup with you both if you are up this way sometime.

Hi everyone I've missed!

AFU, well E has gone back to sleeping during the day over the weekend so feeling like I'm coping a bit better this week - I have no idea what was up with her last week. Seeing as DH is away for the rest of the week - thank goodness!! Nights haven't changed and TBH I can't see them changing anytime soon, but I just feel like I can cope OK with the waking at night as long as she sleeps a bit during the day - with DD1 at school I can catch up on some rest during the day if I feel tired and she is resting. And she also has 4 teeth clearly visible in her top gum now :o They aren't anywhere near coming through yet, but no doubt about it they are there! Still no luck with the solids either, I have given up trying every day and will just try a couple of times a week until she starts to eat - she is now refusing altogether. BBL, she has just woken up LOL Has been asleep all morning almost, was actually starting to get a bit worried!

Hello everyone,

Everyone is sick in my house. All three kids are running temperatures and noses - very unwell and not sleeping well. And as a result DH and I are really run down and starting to feel unwell ourselves. And to top it off I start back at work tomorrow night and I have been told I need to do all this stuff which really should have been done before I returned.

Sorry everyone, it seems that I only ever come in here lately to complain. Hope everyone else is feeling better then we are here.

Hi everyone! I'm going to be slack and not post personals, sorry :redface:. I have read everyone's posts, but I don't have enough time to sit down long enough atm.

Alana is now crawling around everywhere, I have to be on my toes and make sure the boys have put away things she could swallow! She can also sit up now and is on solids twice a day. Her day naps have been heaps longer since having solids, it's great! She has two longish naps (usually over an hour) and one cat nap later in the day. She's doing pretty well overnight, she goes to bed at 7pm (she self settles now, woohoo!), has a dreamfeed at 9pm and wakes for another feed around 4:30am, then sleeps until 7 - 7:30am. She sometimes wakes up in between and just needs a dummy. But the last two nights as I was putting her to bed I told her, "If you wake up, just close your eyes and go back to sleep" and funnily enough she has been LOL! I hear her wake up because she gives a little cry, but by the time I've sat up in bed she's gone quiet. It seems she understands me haha! I'll have to try it every night :rofl:.

Well, I'd better get back to it. I've started up my Round N Round business properly again after giving myself 6 months mat. leave so I'm a bit busier these days!

Issy - I know, they're so happy to see you in the morning you can't help but grin back!! Hope you get some more sleep ins soon. Maybe he's sleeping too late in the arvo? I find if DS sleeps after 4pm it's a struggle to get him down for the night, so sometimes I have to keep him up or just give him a powernap so he is ready for bed at the usual time.

Misty - hi, hope you're all feeling better. How did work go?

Trish - wow crawling, eeek!! Sounds like Alana is doing really well.

As for us DS has another tooth coming up on the bottom. That'll make 3, he's also had a back molar poking up out of the gum for months!! He is being just fantastic lately so I'm really enjoying him at the moment.
I'm starting to think about work...not due back til July but not really sure what I'll do. Big decisions!!

Hope you are all well.... it's been rather quiet in here.

AFU - I have been really sick with cold/flu/ear infection/tonsilitis thing!!!:wall: It has been terrible, but I think I turned the corner today. On a good note Eli is not sick :clap: also he has been sleeping through, only getting up once around 4:00 for a feed. I am loving this new pattern - it has been about 5 nights I think. Here is hoping it is his new sleep routine! Apart from that I am trying to get work and mum and I are busy planning his christening! (big fat greek christening :lol:)

TT - So happy to hear that your little man is sleeping through, you must be so stoked! No such luck here I'm afraid. Starting to get over it real fast (again). I have had a huge weekend with family here (we had 10 house guests on Friday night :o) so I am dead on my feet this afternoon.

Did you change anything with your settling etc or did he just start sleeping through? Starting to get disheartened again. He was SUCH a good sleeper for the first 4-5 months I was so confident he'd be sleeping through by now. So frustrating.

He is over the worst of his croup etc but still has a bit of a rattle in his chest and a slight cough. If he's no better in the next few days, I'll take him back to the GP.

Anyway, I'm tired and whinging so better go. BBL.

Willow - I hear ya! Lochie has been so good for so long, so to have him suddenly change is pretty disheartening. I keep thinking, what am I doing wrong? what have i changed?

Well, i have figured out that Lochie doesnt sleep well on the nights that I bring him into our bed to feed. It seems that when I do this, we wakes only 2 hours later (at the most!). But, when i feed him in the dark in his own room, on our rocking chair, he seems to go back to sleep for longer periods and only needs the one feed, or so it seems. Last night, he woke at 2am, fed for 10 mins in his room, then went back to sleep until 6am, and had a cuddle in our bed before getting up at 7am. This is a perfect night for us! I think what is happening is, when i bring him into our bed, i fall asleep whilst feeding, which means he dozes between sides, and this brings him out of his deep sleep. He doesnt get the full feed in one go and therefore doesnt go back to sleep properly. When he was sleeping in our room, right from birth, i always fed him bed but never laying down, i always sat up, made sure he had both sides, then put him back to bed quietly. Since we have moved him into his own room, i havent been sitting up to feed, and this seems to have been when he started getting usettled during the night. I suppose he responded well cause everynight was the same, and then suddenly it changed, and so did he. So...back to the old ways now, and hopefully back to old habits. Fingers crossed!
