Don't know whether to join you ladies in here or wait till my little one reaches his due date. I had Matteo on the 8th Dec, but he was only 31+1 weeks gestation, so is still in NICU. Doing great though.

We had our little man Connor Matthew on 25 November. He weighed 3572g, and was 10 days early so I'm very glad he didn't go to term to be honest. The labour was pretty intense, but fairly speedy, so it doesn't seem so bad looking back now. My waters broke at home after a curry (maybe the old wives tales do have some sense in them after all) at 10pm but no contractions. Got to the hospital at midnight and I was starting to cramp about 4 mins apart, but when the midwife inspected me and told me I was still only 1cm dilated I was so deflated. Had a couple of hot showers and walked around and realised that lying on the bed made the contractions worse, pethidine (just made me sleepy, didn't seem to lessen the pain), then I wallowed in a hot bath for about an hour and a half and had morphine, and asked the midwife for an epidural. When the OB came in at 7am and checked me out, he said I was 8cm dilated and so I was too far gone for an epi, so I had to do the rest myself. After much pushing, little Connor was helped out with a vacuum and arrived at 9.37am. Considering on the Tuesday before I had been tempted to phone the OB and ask for a c-section, I'm actually very proud of myself for having done it fairly naturally. I'm sure I wasn't thinking that at the time though!
Audax - I'm very envious of you having a good sleeper, our little man is proving to be very troublesome at night, and in fact all the time. He's our first baby and to be honest I'm finding it far harder than I imagined with bfing what feels like all the time and then him not sleeping properly at night. We've been trying to get him to sleep for the last almost 4 hrs - feed, bath, feed, put him down to sleep and he wets the bed, change, put him down and he just won't sleep. And he's crying all the way through this. And when he does sleep at night, he's waking about every 2hrs for a feed. We haven't yet worked out what the different cries mean, they all sound the same to me at the moment. Talking to different people - the child health nurse, friends, lady in the post office etc etc there is just so much different and often contradicting advice about what we should and shouldn't be doing. I don't know if he's getting enough milk because he's a very slow feeder and falls asleep on the breast all the time, so when I take him off I don't know if he's actually full or not. Some people have suggested formula to fill him up so he sleeps for longer, but I really want to give bfing a proper chance. I don't know what to dress him in at night so I don't know if he's getting too hot or cold. What is everyone else dressing their bubs in and what is the room temperature? I know the books say 16-20C, but that seems positively freezing, and in the Perth summer I'm not sure that's even achievable. The health nurse said to swaddle him, but if we leave him to sleep unswaddled he stretches his arms and legs out very happily, and I thought for a few nights he was fighting the swaddle, so I'm not sure he likes being swaddled anymore, but he's still too small for a grobag. Any suggestions about any of this?

Butterfly - welcome! Please feel free to join us, we have such a lovely bunch of girls in here. I'm so pleased your little one is doing so well! I've seen quite a few of my friends go through the experience of having a prem baby and I see how tough it is, but so very worth it. Hope you are doing as well as your little one!
