butterfly that's awesome progress! We have a friend, due same day as we were, but delivered at 32 weeks, he's doing great, but not as awesome as that! You'll have him home in no time.
Little Noodle had a great night last night - went down a bit later than usual, but she slept so well. So I'm feeling great. We did have a witching hour last night, needed lots of cuddles in that time.

Hi all,
I'm ducking in here if that's okay - like Picketty I started out in the early Dec group but my little one made an appearance 15 days early... so I know and love most people in here :)
Have only had a quick read of the thread so far so will write more later. I hope you're all well and got some sleep last night!

Hey girls!
Audux – I’m the same as you…I can’t quite bear the thought of putting Jacob in his cot in his own room. I tried co-sleeping for the first time and we both had the best night!! I think as long as it’s done safely it can be such a wonderful sleep saver! I find that Jacob reacts to some foods I eat too, it makes it quite difficult to plan meals…
Georgi – Hows things with Eden? Hope everything is still going wonderfully for you!
Myboys – I’ve started feeding Jacob before a bath and he is definitely sooo much happier!! Thanks for the handy hint :) I’ve also started to figure out the sling..I had him in there for about twenty mins yesterday but I wasn’t sure he was totally comfy so I didn’t push it for long, I think I’ll just introduce it bit by bit and hopefully we’ll both enjoy it soon. How did your family photos go? I hope the boys behaved for you! :)
Picketty – You’re lucky that Connor tends to sleep straight after a feed, sounds like things are starting to sort out, I’m so happy for you! Keep up the good work :)
Butterfly – Sounds like Matteo is doing fantastic!!! I’m so happy to hear that. Keep up the good work and hopefully your little man can join you at home before you know it :) Don’t worry too much about getting on and keeping up to date, we understand how time consuming a new born is, let alone one in NICU. You just focus on Matteo and keep us up to date when you can spare a few moments.
PP – Great to have you in here with us!! Glad so many of us are sticking together! :)
I’m off to bed, have a great night all!!! xoxo

Hey JULES, Eden is doing wonderfully. He's such a gem. I can't complain about a single thing. He feeds & sleeps well & hardly ever cries. Even when he's hungry, he just makes funny noises like he's trying to find the nipple. He's a treasure
PURPLEP - Heya.. Welcome!
MYBOYS - Are you going to change your name now? Can I have yours? Ha ha ha, just kidding.... I bet your just lovin your little girl hey? Is it way easier 3rd time round? Not that I'll ever know. This is it for me..
AUDAX - Edens witching hour is normally 8, 9 or 10pm. But last night he didn't have one! Glad your little noodle had a good night
BUTTERFLY - I had DS1 at 33weeks so totally understand what you're going through. I did find that I started in the group for the date he was born, but I couldn't keep up with them as they were all talking about their bubs rolling etc & DS wasn't old enough in corrected age to do that so I ended up going back into the group of his corrected age. You might find the same. Feel free to message me if you want someone to talk to who knows first hand what it's like. It sounds like Matteo is doing fantastic though.
DH has gone back to work today so it's the first day I have both kids to looks after. I'm sure I'll cope. Luckily DS1 didn't wake up till 5.50am so I got a little sleep in. I've had about 5.5hours sleep all up. How much sleep is everyone else getting?
I need to go to the chemist to buy more bottle for my breast pump as I want to stock up some milk for new years eve as I'd love to have a few drinks. I just hope that Eden will take a bottle. I'm guessing he probably will but I better test him out first, before I go & have a few.... So my first outing alone, with them both.

Harper is waking so not sure how long i'll get to be here for but...
I just wanted to say Merry Christmas to you all, have a wonderful time with your families and your new additions. It's such a wonderful time.
I'd love to do personals but it's not going to happen, i'm thinking of you all and hope your little ones enjoy their first Christmas.
Talk soon girls xoxo

Hello girlies, hope you all had a lovely Christmas day yesterday and are all enjoying the cold meat/seafood fest that is Boxing Day.
Will be back on here in the next few days when all the family have gone and we can start to get into some kind of routine x

Hi ladies,
I know my charlie boy was born on the 19th of dec, but I would like to stay with this thread as I know you all.
Well Charlie is the best baby out he just goes with the flow, well I suppose he has to since he has 5 other brothers and sisters. I'm starting to feel much better I can get up and do abit more now. The hospital rang me the other day to see how my stay was, I told them that I was dissapointed that I didn't get the EPI and that I was in labour for 7 hours so they had enough time to organise it for me.
Anyway looking forward to chatting with you all.

Hello all, I hope you had a lovely Christmas with your little ones! Ours was busy but good. DH and I consider our little girl the best gift ever :) I found the differing attitudes of my two families to bf very interesting - my family of mostly bottle feeders pretty much ignored me while I was feeding Millie, while DH's family (mostly bfers) chatted with me, made sure I had something to eat and drink etc and were generally so supportive. It felt awful to be so isolated at a function with my own family and I feel very hurt. Has anyone else found attitudes like this?
Cathie I'm glad you let the hospital know you weren't happy about the refusal of an epi. Hope they change things - it's not right when you had specified beforehand that it was what you wanted and there was plenty of time. Also glad you're recovering :)
Picketty we had leftoverfest with DH's family today as well :) I don't often eat ham but gee I love Christmas ham and probably eat enough around Christmas to last me a year!
Hi Georgi :) I was thinking about NYE myself today - can't see myself going out to be honest! and suspect one drink would see me under the table so I don't know if I'll go there. In terms of sleep - Amelia seems to have dropped a feed at night, so I get two blocks of about 3 hours, depending on what time I go to bed. Also getting a nap every day. It's really hard to judge, Millie is quite an irregular feeder and sleeps very soundly once she goes down, so sometimes I'll stay up thinking she'll be up in 15 minutes, but then she goes another hour...or two!! The first time she dropped the feed at night, I went to bed at 9 after her 7pm feed thinking she'd wake at 10... I woke with a start at 1am and panicked! Switched on the light and of course she was fine... she lazily opened one eye as if to say "what'd you do that for? Oh well, since we're up... FEED ME!" How'd your first trip out with the two boys go?
Audax, what time is your witching hour? Is it the same every night?
Butterfly I'm so glad Matteo is doing so well :)
Myboys how do you know if what you eat is effecting Harper? ie what problem does it cause?
Jules I'm glad co-sleeping works for you. I don't know that I could do it, and DH is anti, but that said I took Millie in to him for a cuddle this morning while I went to the loo before her feed, and I came back to find them both asleep... so I crawled in beside her and we had a lovely little snooze as a family. It was really sweet and Millie had an awesome feed when we woke up... nipple shields and all!
About that... I saw a lactation consultant on Tuesday afternoon as my leftie has been causing issues. Initially I was worried about supply, and the LC made some good suggestions to help me fix the attachment, and suggested feeding first off the left, which I had been doing... then the nipple cracked from here to kingdom come (Millie can be a little enthusiastic when she's hungry) and it is taking forever to heal. (any tips?) I was resting and expressing but the pump was opening up the crack each time and hand expressing wasn't very effective as it had slow flow... then the right one started to get tender as she was feeding off it all the time, plus a bottle of milk expressed from leftie - offered after right bb so she didn't get lazy on the boob - so I am trying nipple shields at the LC's suggestion. Hm. It's fiddly but comfortable, but it's an added complication - it seems even harder to tell if she's latched effectively and if she's had enough. She's still pooing and weeing like a champ, but I don't know if her current fussiness is down to the shields or to the overstimulation she's had in the past two days (lots of new people wanting cuddles :)) All my worries about supply have gone out the window - my bbs are HUGE and super productive at the moment, almost as painful sometimes as when my milk first came in. Is this normal? I'm expressing for comfort but of course the more I express the more I produce... and of course the LCs are on holidays til after new year. *sigh* just when you think you have a handle on it all, something changes. I think the difficulty I have been having makes my family's attitude even more hurtful.
Take care all!

Hi all, just popping in here officially.
Hope you all had a lovely and not too stressful christmas. We're still settling in - have to keep reminding myself it's only been 4 days. Seems sooooo much longer.
Seems like most of us in the 1-15th group actually birthed outside that range! And we had 3 fails on the gender predictor as mine was supposed to be a boy too.
Sorry, haven't really had time to keep up to date with everyone. I hope you're well and enjoying your time with your little ones as much as possible. As hard as it can be, it goes so fast.

Hi Girls,
Don't have much time i'm just finishing cleaning up after the bomb of Christmas but i'll say a quick Hi. The boys are at day care Wed, Thurs this week, their last two days with their carer  So it may not be able to do personals until the middle of the week.
Christmas was great, the boys had a great day (apart from the MAJOR tantrum to get them to bed but they were just overtired the poor little guys).
Harper slept most of Christmas Day but was making up for it over night, i have no idea how often she woke but it felt like ever hour or two. Today was a little similar but i'm hoping she's caught up and has some good chunks of sleep tonight. My bb's are a little sore again at the moment, a bit of a sore spot that i'll keep an eye on to avoid mastitis. Harper is feeding so well and she's getting to be a little chubba but i know there are still a few issues we need to contend with. We're working on it.
Just quickly PP there are a few things i avoid in the early days/weeks just because they can effect their sensitive little tummies. Some may say don't eat this, this or this and some may say eat anything but in moderation. I think it can vary on the individual. I stay away from stone fruit, tomatoes (a bit acidic), onion, garlic, things like that that may cause some discomfort. Some can cause sore bottoms, tummy aches and the way i can tell is generally from the nappies (more than usual) or the squirming a lot and visibly a little uncomfortable. You get to know your bub and if they are having an unsettled time you may be able to think back to food you ate. It could me a lot of other things also but keeping your diet fairly bland is a way of eliminating a possible cause. That's what i think anyway.
PP i get pretty good support regarding bfing, i sometimes take myself away just to have some quiet time or sit with everyone else and discreetly feed and chat away. I've been bfing on and off for the last 4 years so i think my family and friends are used to it. I hope your family and friends become more accustomed to it for you also, i'm sorry you had to feel so dissapointed by your family.
One thing i notice this time around is more sharp twinges and a really sharp/tingly feeling when my milk 'let's down'. I'm not sure if that's because we've had a few bb issues this time around or not but my bb's are still so sore and DH is so frustrated because i will not let him near them.
Got to go going to vacuum while there are no toys on the floor.
Talk soon girls xoox

HI again
DS is with his auntie and DD is sleeping (fingers crossed) so thought I'd take this opportunity for a catch up.
How wonderful Matteo is doing! It must be so hard with your little one in hospital still. All the best with the breast feesd, they must be very special for you.
CAthie, I'm so sorry your carers were so disrespectful towards you and good for you complaining. I really think some midwives and doctors forget what it is they're actually there to do. Glad to hear your little one is going with the flow - as y ou say, he'd be in trouble if he didn't!
Myboys, you really do need a anew username :) Hope the bbs are ok.
PP if A has increased her demand recently that would explain the increase in supply...? It will settle down again. If you're only expressing a little for comfort it should be ok. I reckon your family may just be uncomfortable about breasts as functional things if they've little or no experience with breastfeeding. I'm sure it's not a deliberate thing. The more you feed in front of them, the more at ease they'll become (hopefully).
There is no way I"ll be drinking any time soon after the blood loss and no nights out either - really have to take it easy for a while yet. But that's probably for the best with a newborn anyway. It seems like ages already, but it's only been 4 days!
So far (knock on wood etc) DD is very different to DS. She sleeps wonderfully during the day, not so great at night but it can all change so quickly so no point getting uptight about it. Nothing to complain about compared to DS anyway! Myboys she's been doing the similar sort of thing at night - she feeds, naps, fusses, feeds, naps, fusses....all night. Then has 3x 3hr sleeps through the day. IT's so strange to see a baby just go to sleep... just like that! how odd. As I say, it could all change so we'll just try to make the most of it for now.
Feeding wise we didn't get off to a great start unfortunately and my nipples have been squashed and grazed like last time. I'm hopeful we'll get there. It isn't a great time of year for getting LC-type support though. Poor DH can only look, no touching :D
One of my midwives suggested some homeopathic remedies for my episiotomy site - just started this arvo and my bum is sooooo much more comfy!
We've put some music on in our room for DD... figured it was worth a try. she sleeps in her cot (also very odd :)) but likes to cuddle with me for her nap/feed seessions through the night. Which is fine by me! Just wish I could get the attachmenet sorted properly so I could feed lying down comfortably, then it would be perfect.
Has anyone else done their birth stories? Always love to read them. I'll get on to mine soonish I think - will try not to make it too long, but I want it to come out sounding positive, rather than focusing on all the things that didn't go so well.
TAke care everyone - enjoy those newborn snuggles
-
CATHY - Good on you for letting them know how you felt. I agree with Purplep.. They should have been more prepared for you as you did already tell them. Glad you're up and about ok now and more glad that Charlie can just go with the flow. I really think that your relaxed attitude would help with that. I'm guessing you're relaxed as I know I am with my 2nd, you must totally be with your 5th lol
PURPLE- Eden had a long stint last night for the first time. I cluster fed him from 7 to 8pm, put him to bed at 8.30pm, then I to bed not long after. He didn't wake till 1.30am. But unfortunately he then woke at 4.20am for another feed. Then DS1 woke at 5.30am. I was stoked to get 4 hours sleep in a row. I remember when DS1 slept through for the first time, I did the same as you, ran into his room to see if he was alive lol. I have my bubs in their own room. Eden was in my room for the first week but I put him in his room when DH returned to work. My family is not supportive of BF either but luckily I'm able to put their issues aside and still do as I please. My sister has 3 girls and she finds BF offensive. But I just say I don't care it's her problem as all my friends and DH's family are supportive. I also have issues with my left nipple. It's never comfortable to feed off and always slightly painful even when I have correct attachment. I BF DS1 for 10months and it was NEVER comfortable. My supply is fine just that the nipple is slightly smaller than my right side. Actually my left BB is slightly bigger than my right, therefore not as perky. I roll up a face washer & put it under my breast before feeding. That way bub isn't hanging off it IYKWIM. As for the cracked nipples you can try Lansinoh. They say just to use breast milk and air it but I find it's not as good as Lansinoh. I used it for a couple of days when Eden was first born and it healed my nipples well. And yes, I still get huge and uncomfortable, and leak everywhere. I have always had more of a supply than what was being demanded so perhaps you are the same. I found with DS1 that it was at least 3 months before my BB's really settled
MARCELLUS - 3 out of how many? That's still pretty good odds I think. I feed laying down at night. It's so much better. I really hope you can get that part sorted. I haven't done my birth story yet and i'm still trying to recall all the details. I had almost an hour there where I just wasn't with it so can't remember a thing! DH has been filling in the details. I will be doing one though. It took nearly two months for me to do DS1's. Glad the homeo remedies are working for you. Ouchy..
MYBOYS - Eden normally sleeps all day but Chrissy day he was awake most of the day. He sure is making up for it now though. I get weird pains in my BB's too. But I recall getting them when I was BF DS1 too so they don't phase me. My BB's are still sore most of the time too.
AFM - As I mentioned to PP, Eden slept for his first long stint last night. He fed from 7 - 8pm, I put him to bed at 8.30pm and he slept till 1.30am. It was great to get 4 hours sleep straight. But then he only went 3 hours between the next feed.
Christmas day was same ole same ole. I decided to have a couple of wines so fed Eden at 12noon, then expressed straight after. He wanted a feed at 3pm so I gave him the bottle then I expressed and dumped it. He only took 70mls but it must've been enough cause he didn't feed again till 6.30pm. The poor lil mite didn't sleep much during the day as it was very noisy and he was being passed around, but he made up for it yesterday. He slept most of the day, only had two 1.5hour awake times.
Thankfully he's not pooing like he was when my milk came in. He was pooing all the time and especially when I was changing him I kept getting splatted with it. I guess he's getting use to the milk now.
How long do your bubs feed for and do they take both sides? Eden only feeds for a max of 10mins and only from 1 side. I always then change his nappy and wake him up a bit then he might suckle a little more or just totally refuse to go back on. He's cranking on the weight though. I can see how his clothes are getting tight
-
Well I cracked out the nipple shield last night to feed lying down. She was not impressed at first, but got over it. My lefty is a dud too! It's on a slightly different angle to the right nipple, so I think I need to adjust the alignment. Man, I can't remember what we did last time! I was all like, I've done this before, only just finished feeding DS, it'll be fine. But feeding a newborn is totally different to feeding a 2 year old! And it's taken a while to remember all the technique/attachment stuff.
Georgi, DD is a pretty efficient feeder and rarely feeds more than 10 minutes, although she does generally have 2 sides. If he's happy and growing then I'm sure whatever he does is fine.
-
Hi ladies,
Well it's taken me a few weeks but I am finally here.
So we didn't know what we were having, but our beautiful little princess Olive arrived at 8:03am on Dec 11th. She weighed 7 pound 14 ounces and measuring 50cm's long. I had a natural labour using only the TENS machine until she presented with her brow so ended up in theatre with a spinal block and forceps delivery, fun fun!
Looking forward to getting to know you all.
Xxoo

Hey Ladies
Georgi - I am so happy to hear that Eden is doing so well! You sound so incredibly happy. You really deserve it after your experience with DS1. How did your first outing go? I hope you were pleasantly surprised! What a great stint Eden had for you!! I am soooo jealous. Jacob is all over the place at the moment... I don't know if it's his oral thrush or what, but he's feeding every 1.5-2 hrs without fail. And he will NOT sleep unless he's with me or someone else is holding him. It's really hard cause I can't get anything done, going to the toilet has become a real treat in my life. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if it'll pass when he gets better..
Cathy - Welcome!! Glad you've chosen to stick with us! :) I'm so glad to hear Charlie boy is easy going, that must have a lot to do with your attitude. They always say calm parents calm baby... you'd have it fairly down pat by now!! Hope he continues being a good boy for his mummy!
PP - I'm so sorry to hear about your families attitudes but I am so proud of you for rising above it and doing what suits you. I actually went over to my in laws the other day (which I sooo wasn't ready for, Jacob is just too young and out of sorts with the oral thrush). My FIL insisted that I switch Jacob to bottles as I know how much he's had and I know when he's crying that it's not cause of hunger cause I have proof of what he's taken and he claims to know that mastitis is painful and not worth experiencing when you can avoid it by bottle feeding. I just said to him "well, I totally agree that bottles are easier in that respect (that you can tell what they've had) but I want to breastfeed and while it's working for us I'm going to continue it.." I think you're doing a wonderful job by perservering and working through everything and you're doing what's best for your baby so good for you. I remember you saying Millie had oral thrush too, how long did it take you to get rid of it? and did you get it in your nipples too?? I'm getting really disheartened and wonder if Jacob is ever going to get some relief :(
Marcellus - Wonderful to hear from you. I hope Miriam is settling in well, look forward to you both getting into a routine and hearing from you when you have some time. Sorry that your birth was such an experience but it sounds like you handled it wonderfully and took everything in your stride! You should feel so proud of yourself.
Myboys - you sound sooooo busy!! You poor thing!! Sounds like things are going well though, I hope Harper has had some decent sleep for you today!! You deserve a bit of a break!!
Hey Keli! Congrats on your beautiful baby girl!! Welcome to the group. We have a lovely bunch of ladies in here, I look forward to getting to know more about you and baby Olive. Is she your first?
AFM - Well, I haven't been on much cause Jacob has been keeping me VERY VERY VERY busy. I don't know what's going on to be honest... his feeding is all over the place. He still has oral thrush so maybe that's why. He is actually a really good baby and only cries when something is wrong. He brings up wind really well and is pooping and peeing like a little machine. But he just won't sleep well unless he is being held. I don't know if he's clingy cause he's sick or if he just enjoys the comfort. I will be honest, I was COMPLETELY against co-sleeping. I swore I would NEVER do it, but I am so exhausted and the only way he'll sleep is when he's right there with me so I've had to give it a go. It doesn't always work though, and I've only been successful with it probably four times in total. As soon as I put him down on his own he wakes up crying. He is such a light sleeper too, no matter how deep of a sleep he's in you can't place him down without him realising... I'll tell you, I feel so disheartened sometimes... I just hope we can get something sorted soon. Thankfully my mum has come out for a few nights, I called her yesterday as DH went back to work today and I just can't handle it all myself.
Hope everyone is doing well, sorry if I've missed anyone, I'm trying to get through this as quick as possible so I can do some jobs while mum has Jacob asleep in her arms!
Thinking of you all xoxo
-
Hi and welcome Keli! What's with these babies wanting to come out the 'wrong' way, hey?
Jules, big hugs. DS was just the same as you describe your little one, only without thrush. Are you using something to get rid of it? There are creams I think that you can use on him and your nipples (have to treat both). Thrush can make them unsettled too, so sorting that out may help.
DS would only sleep in arms for the first 9-10 weeks. He was very unsettled, hardly every slept at all, cried heaps. We found the hug a bub was really good - he'd have a decent sleep if we carried him around in there. I strongly urge you to get one, or something like it. Maybe try a Close Carrier - it's a similar sort of thing but easier to use. The wrap will hold him in nice and snug and you'll have your hands free to do other things - even go to the toilet :D
Your little man is still so young and is still adjusting to the outside world and he obviously needs lots of help with that from his mum and dad. It's hard on you if you're trying to do other things or have people telling you there's something wrong.
Cosleeping can be an absolute lifesaver also - sometimes it takes a little fiddling to get the details right but it's worth persisting with to see if it helps you both. Can you feed lying down?
This will pass. I promise you as a parent of a little velcro baby that never slept. For now, just do what is easiest - don't worry about bad habits or those "you're making a rod for your back" comments that are likely to come. That's rubbish.
-
Marcellus sounds like things are going fairly well for you. I know what you mean when you have to remind yourself it's only be 4 days etc, it feels like so long ago i was pregnant. You are so right and i have had to remind myself that feeding a newborn is quite different to feeding a 2 year old, lots of guiding from us and lots of learning from the little ones. We'll get there in the next few months i'm sure.
Ladies, help me with the username, i can't seem to think of anything that hasn't already been used or that isn't too cheesy.
Georgi, Eden sounds great and you sound like you're enjoying your boys so much. Harper seems to feed quite quickly also, it really varies as to 1 or 2 sides. She can often get tired and not really finish the second side. At night we are lying down to feed also because i am so tired, i find that she falls asleep feeding this way though and sometimes may not get enough to keep her going for a good chunk of sleep. Just going with the flow right now though.
Welcome Keli and congrats on your little girl Olive. Look forward to hearing how you're going and sharing this special time with you.
Jules you are not doing anything wrong, i think as mothers (or for me) i always look at myself to think of what it is I am doing wrong but it often isn't us. Don't expect too much at this early stage, things will settle but it's really common for things to be all over the place right now. It may or may not help but maybe put one of your t-shirts down in the bassinette and have Jacob lie on that, maybe smelling you will help him feel safe. Or maybe it is the security of feeling you that he needs!?!? It was just a thought. Harper is still feeding all over the place too, i couldn't tell you when, one side or two or how often she fed today. When she's a little older i hope it will settle a little so i can start planning things around feeds but right now i just know it's not worth trying. That is one thing i'm much more relaxed about this time around, i used to look at the time when the boys started crying and think, 'no, it's not ever 3hrs yet' and try and get them through but not this time around. I'm glad you've got your mum to help, you still need to be able to get some 'me time' even if it's to have a shower in peace or even go to the loo :)
Cathie i hope your little Charlie boy is still going with the flow for you. How are the others settling in to having a new brother. I found the boys were much more argumentative towards eachother but it's even starting to calm down a little already. They love Harper though. When Charlie was born Aidan couldn't pronounce Charlie and he'd call him Chargee, so our Charlie is Charlie boy or Chargee :D
AFU Harper is great, like i said to Georgi it varies as to 1 or 2 sides each feed and they are pretty quick but gosh she is putting on the weight also. I can just see it in her cheeks and in her tummy when she's a rudie. She definately has her moments of when she will or won't sleep in the bassinette and last night i think she was in bed with us until about 4am. The only thing that does scare me a bit is that either i'm more relaxed or i'm just so tired that i actually do wake from quite a deep sleep with her next to me. I do sleep using my arm as a barrier around her and i don't find that i move around at all but still the deep bit of sleep just scares me a little. But we're getting sleep and she's happy so we'll work with that.
DH has gone fishing and i put Harper down and started to write this post so i could listen out to make sure she didn't wake straight away before i hoped in the shower, i'm now ready to finish the post and she seems to be waking so no shower for me yet. Cheeky girl.
One big thing i have noticed with number 3 is the washing!!!!! There are Harper's loads, the boys, mine, DH, bedding, nappies and towels. It's never ending :o
Sweet dreams tonight girls xoxo

Hi Ladies,
Just checking in, about to feed the boy-child and who knows when I'll be back again :)
Wow, good numbers in here! Although we were the 20th, I think I'll set up camp with the ladies I know ... if that's OK with y'all!!!!
I'll do personals when I'm expressing, at the moment a status update ... He was 3880g at birth, I had the birth I wanted and Trev hated it cause I appeared to be in a lot more pain and he was helpless. Discharged after 1 day, and on day 3 had the middie visit at home, he had lost 460g which is > 10% and bad. So put onto comp feeding etc. Day 4 he was back up 130g and we've been discharged from the midwife program. He's feeding well (I think) although last night/this morning I fell asleep with him on my nipple and woke up 5 hours later with him still attached - ouch!
bbs and good sleeps to all

Omg, I just lost a huge post. Gosh I hate it when that happens. It took so long to type the darn thing. I'll try again
MARCELLUS - Eden was born on the Tuesday & was weighed on the Friday (1am), he had lost 130g since birth. I then had he weighed the following Tuesday and he'd put on 280g, in just 4 days! I know the scales may be slightly different but that's still a good gain. So i'm pretty sure he's getting enough milk. I'm going to get him weighed again in two weeks from now JIC
KELI - Howdy! Welcome... Olive is just adorable. Birth very rarely goes to plan as I'm sure many here can vouch for. Glad you still got a VB though
JULES - I'm just gonna throw a couple of suggestions out there... Firstly do you wrap Jacob? Is he wrapped tight so he's arms don't get out? That may help. secondly, I know you're probably dead against dummies, but perhaps you can try to hold out his feeds by using a dummy. That may give you a bit of a break but may also make him take a bigger feed after 3 hours rather than small feeds. That way he might get fuller for longer and may be more settled. Just putting it out there. There are many things I do that I was always dead against. Just do what you need to to get by. If they cause bad habbits then you can correct them later. I think for now you really need to get some rest. I hope your mum can help with that.
MYBOYS - Yeah I think Eden gets sleepy when feeding laying down too. I'm not sure if it's cause it's dark or what but same as you, I just go with it. If I can't get him to wake up & take more than I figure I get back to bed quicker. Oh, I notice the extra washing too
KAZBAH - I wouldn't expect you to be anywhere else lol. I have fallen asleep many times when I was feeding DS1, but never for 5 hours. You must've been tired
Eden had a bit of an unsettled day yesterday. More that he wouldn't sleep much. He slept between his 11.30 & 3.15 feed but the rest of the day he'd only sleep while on me. I'd put him down & he'd wake up again. He was never crying though so I wasn't too bothered about it. He did his usual 8.30pm bed, 1am & 4.30 am feeds. I'm wondering if this is becoming a bit of a routine. Gotta go, both kids are calling for me....
-
Marcellus - thank you so much for your kind words and ideas! I'm researching where to buy a close carrier, I watched a YouTube video and it looks great!! The sling we got is hopeless.. Oh and we are treating the thrush with cream for his bum and one for my nipples.. And oral drops for him..We see the community health nurse on 5th Jan.
Georgi - thanks for the tips, we have tried swaddling and also an ergo pouch that a friend bought, no luck.. Will keep persevering.. And in regards to dummies, I'm all for them if they work but he won't take them.. Sometimes he will but mostly he just screams until you take it away.. If only there was one easy thing to sort him! But thanks for the ideas, I'll continue trying.. I'm a total zombie and can't wait for some decent sleep. Mum is watching him between feeds today so I can go sleep in my own bed.
Will get back later for more personals.. I'm done feeding so off to bed!
-
Hooray for granmas Jules! Sometimes the best thing to do is just work around it, you know? Get sleep when and how you can. For what it's worth, this sort of thing very often settles down all by itself by around 12 weeks or so (which seems ages now, I know, but isn't really that far off).
Is it hot where you are? It's stinking here and DD feeds very frequently - they will feed more for thirst when it's hot, just something to bear in mind.
Georgi - what a porker  Well done - clearly he's getting plenty of milk.
Wow at 5 hours sleep Kaz, but hope the nipples are ok. Top ups notwithstanding, :hooray: for breastfeeding! Well done on all your hard work. I hope he continues gaining well and things get easier for you from here.
Yep. The washing. Fantastic isn't it? I'd just gotten used to going 3 days between nappy loads too! Oh well.
DD spends most of the night next to me in bed. If she won't settle quickly in the cot I just can't be arsed bothering. I wonder if maybe the smell of milk wakes her up though, she feeds so often through the night. It is hot though :dunno: Never mind, it'll all be different next week.
We're having our first outing today - for lunch with the family while my sister is still here.
Take care everyone
ETA - Oh Jules, they don't have the close carriers, but Mothers Direct has a 20% sale on at the moment for carriers.
-
Harper isn't lasting more than 15 min in her bassinette today. Not too sure what's bothering her but we're about to go for a walk in the pram to hopefully get her to have a good chunck of sleep. I'll just keep walking and walking...
-
Hullo all :)
Myboys, thanks for the advice on diet. I was so deprived during pregnancy due to the reflux I had that I have kind of been eating as I please. Not anything spectacularly spicy, and I still can’t stomach fatty foods anyway, but I hadn’t much considered how it might affect Millie. I’ll keep an eye on those tell tale signs.
I get tingly as well during letdown… it was at its worst when Millie had oral thrush. That definitely increased the sensitivity, but it still twinges a bit. Happily they still serve their recreational function - it’s nice to feel like something other than a dairy cow :)
Marcellus the funny thing is Millie hasn’t increased demand… she seems to be going longer and longer between feeds. I fell asleep on the couch after an early lunch and woke up at 2. Realised she last fed at 9 – 5 hours!!!!! So went and woke her up – actually had to WAKE her. She had a very big feed at 9, but did a bit of a chuck after it so I thought she’d be up for a feed earlier (hence the early lunch). She’s got great colour, is alert when she’s awake, wees and poos like mad and is growing like a weed, so I don’t think she’s unwell or underfed… she just isn’t wanting to be fed as often. My breasts have settled down now though, I think the nipple shields were stopping her from draining them efficiently. I’m so glad your episiotomy site is more comfortable now. Out of interest what homeo remedies are you using?
Georgi sounds like I have similar issues to yours… it’s so reassuring to know that it’s “normal”! Also reassuring that you fed DS1 for 10 months in spite of it all. You know even the lactation consultant said she had family issues with bf – apparently her brother-in-law said really aggressively “You’re not doing that feeding thing, are you?” ????
Amelia feeds both sides. It’s really hard to know when she’s had enough (hence the chuck this morning) so I leave her on as long as she’s interested, and always offer both sides. Sometimes she’s only on one side for 10 mins, other times 20, this morning 30 (she was awake and sucking the whole time so I let her go)! I’ve had different people suggest different things – MIL said no more than 15 a side, community nurse suggested 30 mins each side… I just try and give her what she wants.
Hi Keli, congratulations on Olive’s arrival – what a cutie! Looks like she has a beautiful head of hair. Did the old wives’ tale about reflux during pregnancy ring true for you?
Jules, Millie finally has her little pink tongue back (which she just loves showing me, cheeky thing :)) I was using the Daktarin oral gel – she was actually pretty good about it, although she tended to gag a little when I tried to put it on the back of her tongue – it seemed most effective to smear it on the front part of her tongue and then let her suck my pinkie for a bit to get it to the back of her mouth. Sudocreme dealt with her red bot. Yup, I had it on my nipples – ouch. The Daktarin gel was a bit irritating and while mothersafe suggested using the Daktarin cream, when I went to the chemist to get it I found the Moogoo anti-fungal cream which was quite soothing and seemed to work very well. The lady at mothersafe said the drops are a bit harder to administer than the gel for an infant, so perhaps that’s why it’s taking its time clearing up? I’m glad you have your Mum with you for the time being. As far as sleep and settling goes, my sister gave Amelia a little LeapPad toy called Scout for Christmas – it’s a little dog that has lullabies and environmental sounds that run for either 10 or 20 minutes. I put on the environmental sounds for Millie when she’s a bit unsettled – it’s things like ocean noise, crickets chirping etc… white noise that helps her nod off without me staying with her. You could perhaps try something like that?
Yay Kaz, come join us! Our babies didn’t stick to the date range so why should we?!
I’m waiting for summer to come back. It’s not raining, so I could probably go for a walk, but it is actually pretty cold and I’d rather not take Millie out in it. Just watching cricket (oh my God how life has changed – DH is thrilled :)) and STILL writing thank you notes!
I hope you’re all well :)

Hi ladies,
I've read through everyones posts and all I have to say from experience is that the first 6 weekas are the hardest, it's all trial and error at this stage, just keep doing what you are all doing ladies as you are all wonderful mummies.
Kaz - Where else would you want to be Kaz, Only with us ladies.
Marcullus - How was your first outing ?
Keli - Welcome !!!!
Myboys - Yes the washing is alot of fun. Lily has been a wonderful help since Charlie came home, the twins have had there noses put out. But hey they just need to get over it as charlie is here to stay. Hana loves to help changing and dressing and bathing charlie, Sam not to interested.
AFM - Charlie is the best baby, we have to wake him at night to feed him. I won't let him go past 5 hours for a feed even though he would. I'm feeling much better, getting around more and feeling better below. Went out today with the 6 kids got a few funny looks off people. If anyone would like a set of twins they are free to good home.
-
heys,
expressing .... quoll has, I think, lost weight again. he just downed 90ml of formulae :( and wouldn't take the boob before-hand. mchn visit hopefully tomorrow, and mum & dad go home to brissie. i cant even express 10ml, sono wonder he's losing weight. bit teary today. welcome all the new faces, an good to see the old ones. cya.
-
Oh KAZ Big hugs for you hun. How stressful for you. Keep expressing, hopefully that can build up your supply. Hope the MCHN visit can help
CATHIE - So glad Charlie is so good for you... No thanks, I'll pass on the twins.. Boy, I really don't know how you do it
PURPLE - It sounds like you know exactly what your doing with feeding Amelia. Well done! That mothers instinct is incredible hey
MYBOYS - How'd the walk in the pram go? Did she settle?
MARCELLUS - How was your first outing?
JULES - Did you get some sleep yesterday? Thank god for your mum
Eden was the perfect baby last night. I put him down around 8.30pm & he didn't wake till 1.45am then again at 5.45am. If only DS1 would sleep a bit longer. He woke at 5.10am boo! But I feel like i've had some decent sleep. I was such a zombie yesterday, had bags under my eyes. I couldn't nap during the day cause Eden decided to have awake time while DS1 slept. I managed to get through it though. I am going to try to get out of the house more today as I think I get more tired when I'm lounging around
-
Hey girls
Myboys - Sounds like things are going well for you and Harper by just being relaxed. I'm finding I'm doing much the same when it comes to not totally watching the clock (I do sometimes I must admit). How you sleep with Harper in bed, with your arm around her and not moving at all, is very much the same as what I did with Jacob. How did the walk in the pram go? I considered doing the same here yesterday, Jacob was out of control yesterday.. even my mum admitted that babies shouldn't be awake that much and they should settle a little easier.. He does the same thing with the basinette, I can often get him in there but it only lasts ten or fifteen minutes and that's it!!! One unhappy baby!! Oh, I hear you on the washing part!! and it's only Jacob, DH and I!!! Thankfully DH was doing the washing on his days off and then mum arrived his first day back at work so she's taken over that duty
Marcellus - Yes, thank god for grandparents!! I didn't get any more than half an hour rest all up yesterday, it is incredible the amount of awake time he has.. we're working with it and just trying different things each time we feed/settle and working with what shows the most positive results. Yeah it's been pretty humid and warm here but we've had the a/c on pretty much since we got home! He is such a warm baby that I don't think he could survive without a/c!! (how did they do it in the old days!!!!) How was your first outing? by the way, I totally admire your relaxed attitude...I try SO hard to do the same, but when I'm getting about two hours sleep in TOTAL a night it's hard to be positive. I'll just keep trekking on.. Oh and I found a Close Carrier, can't remember the site though haha..hopefully it'll be here soon!! It'll be great for when mum goes back home.
PP - How confusing is it when people tell you how long on each side or even "one side only per feed"... I figure if that many women can have different opinions then it means there is no correct answer...so I just go with the flow now - if I want to switch sides I switch sides, but if he seems to be getting enough then I let him go. You are getting to be quite the pro at this feeding business!! So great Amelia is growing and filling nappies. That's what I'm noticing with Jacob and I'm trying to take comfort in that...I just can't wait to get him weighed early January and see what progress we've made..(fingers crossed!!!!) Thanks for sharing the info on thrush, sounds very similar to what we're doing here, except Jacob is having oral drops instead of the cream on his tongue. Is it the same one you were recommended for your nipples?? It's so funny you mention MooGoo, I had never heard of it until my sister in law (who's a pharmacist) suggested it to DH when we visited there the other week. It is unreal! I have a wash and a moisturiser and my skin is so much nicer!! It's such a shame we live in the middle of nowhere, I can't just pop down to shop and get supplies of any kind. Plus it's christmas so it makes it soooo much harder!! (not to mention the floods!!!) whinge over.
Cathie - Charlie boy sounds fantastic!! Pass on the twins also! I'm sure they are adorable and great kids, but one is already damaging enough to my sleep
Kaz - hang in there love, your hard work will all pay off. The best thing about expressing is you do know how much you are producing, and the only way to produce more is to get rid of what you have, so keep it up and I'm sure your body will respond to Williams requirements..Most definately ok for you to join us! There is no better place for you then right here!! :)
Georgi - Didn't get much sleep yesterday, maybe half an hour total? I was getting quite cranky by the end of the day, I just can't function on two hours max in total per night... three weeks like this is just about enough! I can't see the community health nurse till next wednesday which is such a bummer but I'll just keep perservering till then. Glad to hear you had a good night with Eden last night, sounds like he more than makes up for having that awake time.
As for us - well, we're going with the flow...yesterday and last night till midnight was absolutely out of control, I was in tears by the end of it. We ended up getting two small stretches of about an hour and a half sleep which was better than nothing! He actually went in to the basinette for them too!! This morning has been a little on and off but we're managing..I have just put him down now and so far so good, in the basinette. I'm just a LITTLE excited that he's actually having some of his sleeps in his basinette, hopefully I won't have to bring him to bed with me any more...we'll see. We actually think it's a build up of wind so we're focusing more on winding and he seems to be responding to that so far.. Thanks for all the tips, we're trying a bit of everything!!! :)
Take care ladies xoxo
-
Oh Kaz how upsetting for you  If you're stressing about the feeding that may affect how much you get from the pump too. I'm sorry it's so hard for you. I hope the nurse visit yields better news than you expect.
Jules, my boy-that-didn't-sleep taught me some very valuable lessons. One of which was that struggling against the inevitable is totally futile. It took me a long time to get there but I eventually 'gave up' and just went with it. Makes everything much easier - there are some things in life that we just can't control. Good news about the close carrier - hope he likes it.
I hear you on the lack of sleep. DD does not do nighttime sleeping, but has good long naps during the day so I can catch up then, thankfully.
Pixie, sounds like you've got things well in hand. Most of the time following baby's cues will see you right, so whatever she wants is probably fine.
I will also pass on teh twins, thanks but
Didn't end up going out as everytyhing was closed or fully booked. So we had nandos at home instead. Wasn't feeling great yesterday so probably fo the best. Just left the house for the fist time today to post a letter - how exciting. I'd like to take DD out but it's really horribly hot and I'm still not really up for much anyway.
Oh, the homeo things I"m using are arnica - great for bruising - and hypericium (sp?) - which is supposed to be very good for healing episiotomies.
Take care everyone
-
Hello you chatty bunch! Had family here for five days and it just took 20 mins for me to catch up! Typing one handed, as feeding a sleepyhead.
Dream baby is back! I discovered that chocolate, even in teeny amounts, was setting her off. She's back to lovely, feeding well through the night and having two hour sleep stretches by day.
We hven't seen poo for 8 days now, and I'm starting to get scared of the explosion we will face when it does come!
We had our wedding anniversary yesterday - couldn't face going out and heaps of stuff was shut anyway, so we got takeaway noodles with my mum and brother. Bro just flew home, he is so incredibly in love and so very good with his new niece! Sad to say goodbye.
My right boob is the dodgy one - sometimes DD pulls off with a pain cry, sometimes she tugs the nipple from here to billy-o. I figured maybe it's because she lies on her left side, which is her descending colon side, and that's where the poo is banking up (?) Tried the football hold for a couple of feeds, seems good.
marcey - I used arnica too, no idea if it helped because I have nothing to compare to. I started taking it in labour, though, and was healed enough to walk home 40 hours after birth, which amazes other people, so it probbly worked :D
Jules - hope the close works for you. We love ours. Was especially good when we had four days of rain and I was dying to get out of the house - popped her in there and went to the shops with a brolly. I hope Jacob's sleeping improves and that having your mum around is a help.
kaz - hope your mchn visit is a goodie and fingers crossed for no weight loss. You're doing awesome, no matter what, OK?
Right, gotta fly, catch up soon girlies!
-
Kaz - I just read what Marcellus wrote and agree that stress may add to it. I know this sounds silly and you have probably tried all you can - it's so hard not to stress when you are trying so hard and you are sleep deprived. But I was stressing with my expressing and thinking I wasn't getting enough so I would just relax, take a really deep breath and have a drink of water with my spare hand and focus on something else...I found once I relaxed it flowed a lot easier..may be worth a shot? Either way, you're doing a great job and good on you for hanging in there.
Marcellus - You make such a valid point about just going with it...I've done that all day today, I've just been going through the motions, taking all the cues off him...he is having such small sleeps, but he's actually HAVING sleeps so I'm pleased. He is up for a fair while each time as we feed, wind, change, feed, wind put him down - when he cracks I pick him up, wind...if he looks for more milk I put him back on. I thought it may be a supply problem but expressed 120ml this morning no problem and every time he stops and needs winding he has milk around his mouth and I'm dripping all over my breastfeeding pillow so I highly doubt that's the issue here!! On a positive note, I'm sure his thrush is on the mend...fingers crossed!!
Audux - Happy Wedding Anniversary!! Hope you had a great day. Yay at discovering chocolate was the issue!! I've been steering clear of sugar as much as possible...here I was thinking that once the pregnancy was over I'd actually get to eat what I liked...didn't take breast feeding into consideration! oh well.. :) I'm glad your little one is back to herself again. How did you enjoy christmas with your family? That's so cute your brother was a proud uncle, I have three brothers and they haven't gotten to spend much time with Jacob yet... I live six hours away and they came up to the hospital when I had him but he was asleep so they didn't disturb him...then when I went back to stay with mum and dad they'd all travelled out to their jobs (they all work out of town) one of them was so disappointed to hear I'd left town already, he missed me by a day. I'm going back up on the 19th January to see my Ob and Jacobs Pediatrician so I will hopefully see him then and he can have some cuddles!! Wow, eight days no poo!!! I get so confused...they say to me "as long as he is peeing and pooing frequently, he is getting enough food" and then they say "when they go through a growth spurt it's likely they won't poo for a week or so..." I think I'll be stressed when he stops pooing that he isn't getting much, but I think it'd be unlikely my milk supply has dropped... He seems to be growing so fast!! He's already out of 00000!! He still fit them width wise (just) but the length was so stretched! Today we started putting him in 0000 and they are the perfect length but just a little wide - but he still looks so cute :)
Anyways, clearly I'm having a better day, given that this is the second time I'm on today!! I've had a few naps while Jacob slept today and man, does it make the world of difference!!!! I was going to have another one but my poor mother is so tired, she's been sleeping out in the lounge with me, but on the couch while I'm on the guests bed mattress! I cant convince her to sleep on the other spare mattress, she is determined to help me day and night. She's such a gem. She just drove an hour to go get some more oral drops for Jacob and get some groceries we were desperate for so I've insisted that she go and rest in our bed.
Hope you're all having a great day. xoxo
-
Certainly sounds like you've plenty of milk Jules, as you'd expect feedgin as often as you do :D It is typical in the first month or two for them to have at least several poos a day. They don't genearlly start going long stretches without poos till they're a bit older.
Hi AUdax, what a shame about the chocolate!
Well I spoke too soon - DD is not sleeping today. I've had her in the close carrier most of the day. Don't want her getting overtired. At least she likes it in there.
-
Hi all,
Quick question - would ginger and shallots cause a reaction for Millie? Had Hainan Chicken for lunch, which I figured was nice and bland, but forgot the ginger and shallots... and now Millie is having a screaming hissy fit.
Other thought is that she hits 6 weeks tomorrow and could be wanting extra feeds? I just don't know if I'll be doing more harm than good if it is the ginger and shallots? *sigh*
Spoke too soon about having this feeding caper figured out...
Be back soon (I hope???)
xox
-
6 weeks = wonder week. It's probably nothing you ate, just a big developmental leap that results in fussiness, extra feeds, bad sleep etc.
-
Yup, just did another huge feed - has been almost constant since 5.45pm. Must be the "wonder week", as you put it Marcellus. I might try and grab a shower and a kip while (if?) I can... not to mention a huge drink. Had to start on a hot night, didn't it?!
Night all, thanks Marcellus :)
-
PP i'd say most things are ok in moderation but you will find that bubs reacts to some things more than others and if it's a reaction you think she had trouble with you can know to avoid it for a little bit just until her tummy matures a bit. Hope DD settled for you, i know when Harper is a little uncomfortable she pulls her knees up a lot. Sometimes some tummy time or a belly rub and help with aches.
Cathie Charlie sounds so happy and content. Yay on the big chunks of sleep for you, hope it continues. I'll have the twins for a day, i'll gladly return them to you at the end of the day but they can come and play with my boys for a little bit
Kaz i hope you are having a little more sucess with expressing and feeding you little quoll. You've worked so hard and trying to get it right i hope you get there.
Georgi, Harper did settle in the pram and managed to get an hour or so and then in the afternoon she actually slept a little in her basinette. She made up for it today though, not as much feeding and a lot more sleeping. I don't know how you manage getting up to such an early riser, how many day sleeps does Byron have?
Jules i am noticing in myself that i am really relaxed with Harper compared to the boys. The only time things get a little stressfull and i don't handle it so well is when i have Harper in my arms and the boys are arguing or wanting me to do things that are just not possible. I feel pulled in 3 directions and want to be there for all of them. I hope Jacob settles for you and i'm confident that he will, the newborn stage is a trying time as there is so much to learn for both parent and baby. I'd have to honestly say to you that for me #1 was the hardest, i had so much to learn and the sleep deprivation was a killer. With #2 & #3 the sleep deprivation is a little easier to handle because you're used to inturupted sleep. Glad you had a better day today and hope they continue. Just keep guiding Jacob and he'll get there.
Marcellus how are you surviving the heat? You have been getting some very warm days lately. How's your little man enjoying his sister?
Audax Harper has been fussing at the bb a little lately, being a little noisy while feeding, pulling, kind of crying and then sucking away again. I remember it happening with my boys and it was something that passed after a little bit.
AFM I eneded up putting Harper in the pram yesterday (screaming) and she was asleep within minutes of leaving the house and was asleep the whole time we were out (took Aidan to the park & shops) and then slept a little at home still also. Finally in the afternoon she was happy to snooze in her basinette. Today was a different day. Harper was her placid little self, we went out for lunch and she slept the whole time, i had to wake her so my friends could have a hold and feed. It had been about 4 hours since her last feed, why can't she do that at night???? Last night i decided to make a point of sitting up feeding and getting her back into the basinette. She'd still only have one side then fall asleep, she went into her basinette no problem up until about 3ish then there was a bit of an issue. We got through it though but she was in bed with us after that. We pretty much only had 2 hours between feeds all night. Tomorrow could be totally different again.
Hope tonights a good night girls xox
-
Hi ladies,
I haven't been on much since bub was born as I find I just don't get time & can't keep up with persies etc.
Anyway my little girl is 2 1/2 weeks old, the past 3 nights I've had maybe an hr or 2 sleep a night.
She feeds on ave 3 1/2 - 4 hrly during the day & then the past 2 nights constantly from about 9 pm - 4am. She won't settle, won't go down in her bassinet & will only sleep when I'm holding her, within 5 mins of being in her bassinet she cries. She has also had bad wind & I think reflux. Yesterday she fed & instantly after finishing had an episode of blood curdling agonizing screaming and nothing eased her pain for about 20-30 mins. I spend about 1/2 hr burping, rubbing her back, lying her across my knees, cycling her legs, rubbing her belly after every feed to avoid wind building up but it still happens.
I'm exhausted from sleep dep & there have been a few nights I've sat here & cried because all I want is a cpl hrs sleep and for bub to feed well, sometimes we have screaming and she refuses to eat for about 15 mins before then feeding Perfectly.
Hope you're all enjoying your precious little ones.
When things settle I'll be here more often :)
-
Jules - Totally agree with going with the flow ...................................... flow.........................................
Kaz - Don't stress you are doing a wonderful job.
Audux - HI :hello:
Georgi - Yay for Edan, what a great sleeper.
AFM - Well not much to say, I'm feeling better Charlie is eating and eating he has put on 320grams. He is asleep now and so are the twins so I better do some house work.
Bye all Cathie
-
babyluv - do you have a bathtub? a bathfor you, and bring her into it with you may help - get your DH to help you both in & out, and put a washcloth over her, keep puttin warm wateron it. sometimes that works... or if you'r having trouble getting her to attach, she may be hungry. If you can, keep a little milk expressed and give it to her via a teaspoon, then try to attach - i'm finding that working for us when he just won't attach. i know where you're at hun, it's hard
sounds like everyone's doing well!!!
afm - mchn visit yesterday promising. have number of private LC we're going to try, hopefully she's covered with our private health fund as she is with some but not others. quoll has put on 200g since losing 460, so he's still 260 down from birth weight. sorry about typing, on left and only cause expressing. am considerng diferent pump as i'm getting more out hand expressing in shower than on my pigeon pump. dh is annoying me, great with quoll, ignores pip, and spends all day on the puter looking at properties we can't afford, then grumps at my excessive usage!!!
took pip & quoll for walk yesterday, pelvis still grating and quite painful, so panadol now in the tablet mix - am having 3 times a day: 2 blessed thistle, 1 fenugreek, 2 motillium, 1 voltaren, 2 panadol. oh joy. and in the morning my ADs and thyroid, plus iron liquid twice a day. Anyhows we gave quoll a feed before leaving, then the other side at the park, the first side at another bench, and then I was walking while feeding :) yay me! weighed myself - 72.5kg, which is down on my pre-pregnancy weight!!!!
anyhows, off to do the second expression ... have fun all
-
Babyluv, you could try feeding her more frequently during the day - maybe 2 hourly. That might give you a better break at night.
Hope you're able to rest up a bit
Like I said to Jules, DS was like that and the best thign is to just do whatever works best. For eg, we used a wrap/sling and carry him around during the day and brought him to bed at night.
:hello: everyone
ETA - Hi kaz, you sound more positive today. You'd want the best pump possible, I reckon.
Well done at feeding while walking

Hi all!
Cathie, so glad that Charlie is being an angel! LOL at the twins though… my sister frequently advertises a five year old as free to a good home too :)
Georgi I think you’re right about getting out and about. We got out of the house yesterday and today after all the rain at the beginning of the week. I’m tired, but it’s good tired, and I feel better than I have for the past couple of days. The sunshine helped.
Jules, the community nurse suggested using the Daktarin oral gel on my nipples but when I phoned Mothersafe (on the packaging for the gel it said it wasn’t suitable for kids under 2, but that’s only because of the spoon dosing thingie) the lady said it would probably irritate the skin (true!) and suggested just the Daktarin cream, I guess the stuff you’d use on tinea! But I like I said, I used the moogoo. Got their deodorant, too – nice!
Marcellus, my MIL swears by arnica for bruising :) Thanks for your response last night too. It helps so much to have people to reassure me when things go a bit haywire – I thought it might have been the 6-week thing as I had Hainan chicken a few weeks ago with no ill effect. She has had a couple of cluster feeds which is unusual for her, and this morning she stayed up for longer – we got in some time on her activity mat, which she loved, a story (Slinky Malinki :)) and a song (Cat Stevens – Moonshadow). She fell asleep while I was singing and then slept for about 4 hours… during which time we took her to my in-laws house. She freaked out when she woke up out of her bed – it took ages to calm her down enough to feed. That’s new as well – previously we could sneak her out while she was sleeping and she’d be fine. I guess now she’s more aware of her surroundings?
Audax, nooooooo for chocolate causing issues! Such a shame. No poo for 8 days? Wow. DH reckons he’s going to keep track of the nappies Amelia soils the second we put them on and charge her for them once she gets a job! We’ve had a number of explosions – as revolting as it is (especially when she’s a nudie – OMG) the look on her little face is hysterical. How nice is it when guys dote on their nieces? Both of my brothers-in-law are just besotted with Millie – both big gruff blokes who turn to jelly when she’s around.
Myboys it must be really challenging juggling the boys now. I think Cathie is amazing with 6 kids. DH comes from a huge family – he’s the youngest of 6 and little Millie is grandchild #19 (4 siblings have 4 each) and I can see how the kids look out for each other… can also see how tempers would fray when everyone is tired/hungry/sick etc too! I can see us having a few more kids… as tired as I am and as hard as the past few weeks have been, I want Millie to have brothers and sisters. I’m putting off thinking about the juggling act that will entail for awhile yet :)
Hi Babyluv, sorry to hear about your little one’s wind/reflux – I hope it settles down for you both soon. Have you been able to sleep during the day?
Kaz, brilliant idea about the bath. DH jumped in with Millie when she screamed her way through her first weeks’ baths (I would have liked to, but stitches – boo) and having him in there with her calmed her right down and she’s been heaps better with baths since then. I can see how that would help with wind too. Hooray for Quoll gaining 200g! That’s great :) and hey - what is it about blokes and computers??? I tentatively stepped on the scales the other day and was pleasantly surprised too. Not too concerned about weight, but am finding it really hard to get dressed of a morning – maternity clothes too big, regular clothes too small, and I’m a tiiiiiny bit sick of wearing stretch pants. *SIGH* I got a flier for a new Zumba class opening up nearby next month, so I think that will be my exercise in the new year :) I’m thinking of you and hoping your hard work pays off with feeding. You sound more positive today :)
MIL gave us SIL’s infantino carrier today – heaps easier to adjust than the Kapoochi my sister gave us – so we’re going to give that a burl tomorrow and see how Millie takes to it. It’s going to be so hot for the next couple of days though, not sure how far outside the house we’ll venture. I’ve been feeling a bit mopey, which is ridiculous as I really have nothing to mope about. I suspect it’s just hormones settling down again – I feel like I did post-pill/pre-conception, which is basically like a moody teenager. I hate being “glass-half-empty” when my cup certainly runneth over.
Enough blathering, I hope you’re all well. Just want to say how great this community has been throughout the pregnancy and since the birth. It has made a huge difference to feel so connected to other people going through the same things.
