Charlotte, LOVE your cat’s name bummer on the fleas. Reminds me I need to put Tink’s treatment on… oh God, and take her to the vet before we go away. She was supposed to get her vaccinations two weeks before Millie’s due date… which obviously didn’t happen! Glad Hannah is better, and good news from the cardio! I'm hoping for similar on the 3rd June. I have to say, I had a mouth ulcer a couple of weeks ago so cracked open the Bonjela (I bought it for the free dribble bib that came with it, which I am now trying to replicate with cuter fabric!) – it tasted bloody awful, so I shan’t be giving it to Millie.

Cathie I’m so sorry Charlie is so unwell. Poor little man, hope he improves soon.

All’s well here. Millie is a crack up, we’re having a lot of fun. I’m in total denial about going back to work. Looking forward to the holiday though, we have booked the hire car and baby seat now as well as accommodation in Salzburg. Have finally convinced DH that driving from the airport is a much better plan than wrestling all our luggage and the anticipated cranky baby onto a train (especially as they have changed the services and we now have to change trains).

she is so funny the way she is doing things now and the way she reacts to us when we play with her is unreal! makes all the cruddy times worth it!

actually u reminded me, Jazz our jack russell has fleas too we got rid of them a few weeks ago but i found them again the other night, so she has had the stuff on her neck, and ive dosed her up on garlic and have a flea collar just incase! its so annoying!

not much else going on really.
summah is fighting her morning sleeps atm, she will sleep for about a hour, and then chucks a massive tantrum, but makes up for it in the arvo so i guess it works out in the end.

Cathie, not good for Charlie boy at all. My Charlie had that at about 11 weeks and it was horrible, i really freaked out because his breathing was terrible. Hope he gets better really quickly.

Is anyone getting close to considering trying solids? Harper has been watching intently at us eating for sometime now and just then i was eating a biscuit and her eyes were fixed on it and her arm was trying to reach out for it. My little girl is growing way too quickly I really don't want to be thinking about it yet but she is kind of showing the signs isn't she!?!? She's only just 5 months, maybe i can string it out another week or two??

Is anyone else thinking about another one?? Cathie will you be having anymore? It's strange after Charlie i was sure i was pretty content and then we had our beautiful little surprise and now i'm feeling that i'm not quite done. DH thinks he is but i'm not so sure. I'm enjoying Harper so much and it does saden me to think this is the last 5 month old i might have. I have no idea what they'll be like as teenages though....

Anyway it's just been on my mind a little bit lately. PP, Jules, Crumpet & Charlotte with your little ones being your first how many do you imagine you'll be having?

DD is very, very interested when we eat. Quite different to her brother. She doesn't need anything though, and probably more importantly she cant' sit up straight and still has the tongue thrust reflex, so I don't think she actually can eat yet anyway. Well, I suppose I could puree and spoon it in, but I'm not going to do that. She is trying to grab at stuff though, so it mightn't be too long before she gives somethign a go.
They do grow so fast don't they!? We always wanted 3 or 4 - some days we feel 2 is too much, but I don't think we're done, no. Of course, it all depends whether we canactually get pregnant again. We have 2 embryos still frozen, so one of them might end up a little brogther or sister. We'll see. I don't have another full cycle in me though, so that;ll be it (probably)
It is sad to think I might not have a lovely little newborn again

Crumpet, I'd just let her do her thing. If she's done sleeping earlier then get her up, and put her down again when she's tired.

Are you excited about your trip pixie? I would be. Try not to think about work. Maybe it'll go away....

I'm thinking we may have to make a trip to NZ sooner rather than later - both DH's brother and father are ill, his brother quite seriously. Luckily for DH (and very much unlike me) he's not into worrying about things he can't change.

PP - wow your trip came around so fast, I'm so excited for you. You can get a shuttle bus to the airport that's what we did.
Crumpet - I here you on the sleeping during the day, charlie normally only sleeps for 30 - 40mins. His sleeping longer now as he is sick.
EJ - Charlie watches us eat but I don't think he is ready yet for solids as the bottle seems to be enough at the moment. yeah I would love one more but we will see how we go as my cervix came down during labour with charlie the DR said i will be at high risk. I just feel like I haven't finished yet, i just love all my kids soo much and they do grow up soo quickly and I just can't imagine not having another baby in the house. I would love another set of twins how blessed would I be.

Hullo again,

EJ, Millie started getting interested in our food so I gave her a piece of pear to gum. She seemed to be happy with it. She's a week off 6 months and I'm just going to give her bits and pieces to play with and taste. She had a little bit of pumpkin off my finger and seemed to like the taste. She was looking interested a few weeks ago and we did string her out a little longer - she can't miss what she's never had! She certainly doesn't need any extra nutrition, I'm sure she's 8kg now.

As to the number of kids... man, I could just keep going I'm the youngest of 2 and always thought 2 or 3, DH is the youngest of 6 and always thought 3 or 4, so we'll probably have 3... at least! I'm enjoying motherhood soooo much. They do just grow and change so quickly. I caught up with a friend yesterday who had a little one 3 months ago - I vaguely remember Millie being that little and still! I know we were lucky with Millie - she's well and I had an uncomplicated pregnancy and birth - so it's easy to say I could just keep going. I was in a parents room yesterday with a lady who was changing her 4 month old, whilst trying to deal with a very active, cheeky, profoundly deaf 2 year old. Imagine that... a little girl who has just figured out that if she's not looking at Mummy, she can effectively ignore her...

MadB I'm so sorry to hear about DH's brother and father being unwell. Yes, I'm really looking forward to the trip. Logistics will be interesting! I'm looking forward to wearing Millie around Germany I have been using the carrier so much more of late, wish I'd had it from the start. I had her facing inwards at the shops today and every time I looked down at her she was gazing up at me. So, so sweet. It's not so much going back to work as leaving her that is bothering me, but I'm trying not to think about it at all

Cathie, shuttle bus is a great idea, although my sister will probably insist on driving us over to the airport. My concern is on the other end... Frankfurt airport to the tiny village of Bollensen. No shuttle buses there - people still drive through the village on tractors

Oooh, I just got a real shiver of excitement. I've only seen Germany in winter, so summer will be just beautiful!

Agh, it's late all of a sudden! A friend who has just settled in Turkey was online so we've been chatting for ages! Whoops. Hope Millie sleeps well tonight

Is anyone getting close to considering trying solids?

Is anyone else thinking about another one??
Anyway it's just been on my mind a little bit lately. PP, Jules, Crumpet & Charlotte with your little ones being your first how many do you imagine you'll be having?

Solids- yeah we are testing the waters there, some days she is into it, others wont have a bar of it, so i tend to try her out every 3rd day to see what happens...

another baby- NO!!!
ok so at the moment, im far from interested in going through another pregnancy, and another high risk one at that.
i tend to get MS for the first 20weeks, combine that with the fact i need a cervical stitch and bed rest for 90% of my pregnancy i just cant be bothered its just such hard work for me, 3 weekly OB appts, monthly cervix scans, a 3 day hospitak stint at around 13weeks, then another over night trip at 37weeks to have the stitch out.... no thanks!
DH has always only ever wanted one bub, and then after the last 18 months we both feel so blessed with having Summah here happy and healthy and i think we both feel like we would be jinxing ourselves to try again...
plus we love just having her, its so easy when we are out and we both love being able to go shopping and buy her whatever so being able to give her everything when we want to is a high priority, mainly for DH.... i dont want her to be a spoilt brat BUT its nice not to have to think, well she got something i have to get him/her something to.
then there is the fact we would never have to move house, we love where we live and while we could have 2 kids here, it would be a tight squeeze.

we havnt ruled it out, we have given oursleves a 3-4year deadline, but its unlikely....

Crumpet, I'd just let her do her thing. If she's done sleeping earlier then get her up, and put her down again when she's tired.

yeah im going with her flow at the moment.
she screamed wildly when i put her down again this morning, but i got her to sleep with a bit of controlled crying which im more than happy to do, and she slept for a hour on the dot, got her up and she was happy as larry, went down for her arfternoon nap no problem!

EJ - Eden's night sleeps were an absolute nightmare whilst we were away but thankfully he only took two nights to settle back into home. The past two nights he's woken at 3am for a feed. Though this mornings he didn't really want, he just wanted to suckle. The Baptism was great thanks. All went beautifully well. I have been meaning to get the pics up. Hopefully I can do it today

JULES - Yeah as I mentioned to EJ, Eden took a couple of days to settle back in. Thankfully he's fine now. Hope Jacobs much better now

The Baptism went well. Eden & Max slept through most of it, even when their heads were wet lol. Eden had very restless nights while away and for two nights once we got home. The last two nights he has woken at 3am.

Is anyone thinking about solids? Everyone keeps telling me that Eden is waking cause he needs solids. I know it may or may not work but I am being tempted. He watches us eat & sometimes opens his mouth to food but I can't see any other signs of rediness. He doesn't have a pincher grip yet.

He has started sucking his thumb which I am getting concerned about. I keep taking it out but he just puts it straight back in again

Well, finally back from Melbourne for more appointments.

First, Hannah's Physiotherapy went well. They're very impressed with her. She's at a 4month old level, which is ahead of her 'corrected age' which is what they use.
They want her to have ongoing observation so they're trying to find a physio that will take her in Horsham. Which is only an hour and a bit away, rather than 5 hours to Melbourne. Horsham has physios, but it doesnt appear to have any for babies. Grrrr.

Her surgical review went awesomely. We've been given the go ahead with solids. We tried some farax last night and she wasn't keen on it at all. She liked it for a few mouth fuls and then started gagging. And then she vomited. So it was fun!! lol. Gonna try again today, thinking maybe she was just worn out and out of sorts from all the travelling. She's happy today!

Another baby!?!? Are you kidding!?! lol
Nah, I'd like another baby and I nearly got one. AF was pretty late and was going to buy a test yesterday but AF finally turned up so very very relieved.
My last pregnancy was exhausting. The first 20 weeks were OK, then we found out about Hannah's Gastroschisis. It was only 3 months and 1 week til she turned up from there. Appointments in Melbourne (1000km round trip) every 2 weeks and then appointments in Horsham on the off weeks. Then weekly appointments in Melbourne, not being about to come home because of my pre term labour scares. So then it was 3 appointments a week for 3 weeks and then bub was delievered.

So, thinking i was pregnant this week was terrifying. We're going to start TTC in October/November. We're getting married in September so I don't really want to be pregnant then.

Ahh, better see if Hannah is nearly ready for bed so she gets a decent sleep in before mothers group. I love going to mothers group but its so hard because its usually Han's sleep time. But, I should make it today!

Georgi i have been told that it is quite 'normal' (god i get sick of hearing that assumption and here i am saying it) that babies who have slept quite well start waking again at the 5ish month mark. Aidan my only one who ever slept through from such a young age went from sleeping through to waking again. The MCHN told me it wasn't unusual and it didn't necessarily mean he was needing solids. But having said that we're getting close to when we'd be offering so when the time is right for our little ones....

It's been a miserable week here and so so cold. Off to music this morning and Aidan is going to swimming lessons with his Nan. Will try catch up better soon ladies

Yep, it is normal for them to do that. It's abnormal for babies to sleep through from a young age and never wake, quite frankly

There's a great article on waking and needing helpt o sleep in the latest Essence mag.
@ 3months, 80% of babies wake adn need helpt o get back to sleep
@ 6 months, 75% wake
@ 12 months 50% still wake
And about a third of children still wake and need a parents help to get back to sleep until they are 4

so it's no fun, but it's certainly normal

I certainly know DS's waking etc had nothing whatsoever to do with nutrition or diet, as changes (even night weaning) made no difference.

After all that Chartlotte, I don't blame you wanting to hold off a bit!

Oh Jules, exciting news!

Re: the solids... a lot of the women in my mother's group thought that solids would help their bub "sleep through". Nup. Those stats are really interesting MadB and I will definitely refer to them when people ask me if she's sleeping through. I think Millie is a great sleeper, even though I have to get up to her most nights at least once... she generally goes down without too much fuss and usually does 4 hour stretches at night with an occasional longer stint. My best mate is still getting up to her almost 5 year old, so I'm prepared for that if it happens... mind you, when Millie is 5 I'll hopefully have a couple more littlies anyway... so I'm giving up on the idea of sleep for the next decade or so

But yeah, everyone does ask if she's sleeping through. Where does that come from?

Wow, Charlotte, that was certainly a complicated pregnancy. How exhausting for you! I haven't been out to my parents place - also about 5 hours' drive - since April last year because I was always so uncomfortable in the car. I guess if you need to do it... you just do, right? We'll be TTC #2 around the same time Good news on Hannah's medical reviews!

EJ, do both of the boys do swimming and music? Music lessons sound like fun! Millie had another scream-free swimming lesson this week, so proud

Crumpet, 20 weeks of MS... and the rest... crikey!

I went to the gym today! Put Millie in the creche, knowing that if she cracked it I'd still be able to hear her over my iPod, and had a trainer do a cardio program for me. Then did the program. Hooooooly cow I'm going to be sore tomorrow! It felt pretty good, and Millie was a gem. When I went to pick her up she was sitting there quietly between two other little ones who were crying their eyes out being rocked by the carers. She gave me a big smile which completely made me melt. I guess it is good practice for both of us prior to putting her in daycare in July. Baby steps...

MadB even though you forgot about Mothers Day i hope DH and the little ones didn't. Glad you enjoyed camping. It's funny i never ever camped when i was a kid/teenager and if you'd had told me back then i would be camping with 3 kids under 5 i'd have said no chance.... And look what i'm doing!! I don't really think Harper 'needs' solids as yet, the bfeeds are more than enough for her right now but she's just showing all those signs. I'm happy, and i think she is to wait a couple more weeks. After a day like i had yesterday with my big boy i too was thinking 3 was enough But when they are being sweet you could have that x 10. Yes Aidan was my abnormal one Charlie boy barely ever slept through, i never attempted to do anything about it until he was over 8 months old. I settled without a feed then and it was fine but then he started waking again and i just started feeding him again. I was happy to do it. I was still night feeding him (at 12months) when i fell pregnant with Harper.

Charlotte91 so good to hear that things are all so positive for Hannah. You guys must be so proud of yourselves and your little girl. With the solids i remember my Charlie boy taking a long time to get used to them. At the 5ish month mark i tried and he clearly wasn't interested so once he was 6 months we tried again and made it a regular thing but he really didn't take to it for another month after that i don't think. Completey different to my big boy who loved it from the minute we tried it. We'll see how Harper goes when we decide to try.

Hi Crumpet hope all is well and you're enjoying Summah smiles. Crumpet my goodness what a pregnancy you had!! You do have a beautiful little girl to show for it though. The things we go through... You did so well to get through what you did.

Cathie, how is Charlie boy going? I hope the antibiotics are kicking in and he's improving already. Wow imagine if you had twins again!? You guys would be so blessed!! I remember when i was pregnant with Charlie was eager to 'give the whole newborn-toddler' thing a go again as i knew what was involved and wanted to do it with a little more confidence. Would you say it's similar with wanting the possability of having twins again???

PP your trip is going to be amazing i'm sure. It'll pay to be somewhat organised but i'm sure everything will fall into place where it needs to also. Isn't it sad how those early weeks go by so fast and in such a whirl wind that you can barely remember your little ones being newborn. Harper being a newborn feels like such a distant memory '3 at least....' Sounds wonderful PP. With the sleeps Harper generally does two 4-5 hour stints too and i'm happy with that. From the 5-6amish mark i think her body clock just knows what time it is and from then on she wants to be in bed with me. I'm happy to let her Aidan and Charlie both do Mini Maestros (music). Aidan has been doing it since he was 6 months old and Charlie was 12 months. They love it, it focuses on teaching them a whole range of things, fast, slow, high, low, counting, using singing voices, listening, taking turns (using instruments and giving them back) all age appropriate of course. Aidan has only started swimming lessons this year, we would go to the local pool as a family so he's had expereince in the water but now i want him to learn skill that we can't necessarily teach him. Charlie is not doing lessons as yet. Nan is helping at it's so hard to fit everything in

Georgi sleeping through the baptisim!? So cute. I saw the photos on fb, the baptisim and thumb sucking My Aidan was a thumb sucker, i let it go because it made him happy. Now as a 4 year old he only will suck his thumb when he's falling asleep at night.

We've had a good week, Harper has been really good and the car trips a getting a little better.... finally..... She is interacting with the boys alot and them with her. I love it. I often look at the three of them in amazement. I'm so lucky and blessed. I wonder if there are anymore for us?? Harper is trying so hard to roll and when i give her a little help it is only the slightest little nudge that she needs, then she just has to figure out how to get her arm from underneath her.

Time for bed ladies. Have a great weekend, tomorrow night is my burlesque night. I've got my outfit and all the accessories. It should be a great night
