Babies Born December 1st-15th 2010 #3

EJ - Thanks. I know it's common for them to change their sleeping patterns. Thankfully it is only once a night that he's waking. I'm still not ready to give him solids... As strange as that sounds. I look at him as just a baby (although DS1 was on solids by this stage), plus, I really wanted to start on Baby Led Solids rather than puree. I'll see how we go over the next week or two. I'm trying to be calm about the thumb sucking.

CHARLOTTE - Eeeek, lucky AF arrived! It sounds like you had a really rough pregnancy. Congrats on the wedding. What date? My anniversary is Sept 2nd

MADB - Hmmm, interesting stats there. I guess when you're spoilt with the first one being such a good sleeper you just expect it to happen again. He's still a fantastic sleeper, just that one wake. Most nights he takes a reasonable feed so I think he's waking cause he's hungry, then other nights he just wants to suckle

JULES - Have a safe trip. Ohhhh, new born cuddles, yay

PP - Awww thanks. It was a nice day. I'm so jealous that you can go to the gym. I just can't find the energy. I think about it every day. Even just to go for a 30minute walk. I'm just sooo exhausted all the time

Poor Eden couldn't get to sleep yesterday. I put him down at 4, hoping he'd just have a nap then get up for his last feed & back down by 8pm but nope. He didn't get to sleep till 5.30pm so of course he was too tired to get up for his last feed. I ended up dream feeding him but that meant he woke at 5.30 this morning. Bugger! (He did wake at 2.30 for a feed).

Georgi -- September 18. Exactly a year after we got engaged.... hmm, will actually be around the same time of day... Crazy!!

Hannah had some pureed carrot yesterday and loved it! She was opening her mouth and smiling and talking all the way through. She had probably a big teaspoon worth of carrot, so I was very proud of her. Apart from that she's been fairly boring. She's holding onto toys more if you hand them to her and chewing on them, so thats a big achievement for her.

Hey girls, I have to have a vent. Talking about solids and all. Yesterday my FIL asked if Jacob is on solids yet and I told him no we aren't starting him till around six months as it's recommended and something DH and I have decided together. Then yesterday he was working out in his shed and we all went out to sit down as his family has 'smokos' and my SIL was holding Jacob and FIL walked over (hands unwashed since working) and put some of his apple pie dessert off his finger on Jacobs lips then into his mouth!!!! I'm still SO angry. I just sat there waiting for DH to speak up which he didn't. I hate when he doesn't speak up for things like that, I can't always be the one to say something as then I'm the b****. He knew I was unimpressed and just said 'wait till mums not looking Jacob, I'll give you all sorts of things, vegemite, juice (etc)' why do they think they have ANY right to do that I'll never understand.

Sorry girls, it's been eating at me and I had to get it off my chest. Any advice from anyone that's had a similar thing happen?

Grrrrr Jules. I would be livid! That's really disrespectful.
My family jokes about it, but would never give them things without checking. Well DS maybe as he eats everything now, but not when they're babies. I think you and your hubby need to make it very clear if there are things that are not acceptable to you. If you're ok with it, let it go, if not, they need to know that it's not ok and that you may not be able to leave your baby in their care if they can't respect your wishes.

Charlotte, I missed the part about you getting married. Congrats! I gueess you'll have a special little flower girl

I think Han will be a bit little for a flower girl!! Even my niece, Mieka, I think will still be a bit small, and she'll be 11 months. No flower girls! Too much drama. ;)

Well, Hannah is loving solids!! She's turned into a bottomless pit overnight! She's liking farax, but loving carrot. She gets 1 'real food' meal a day, and one farax meal if she's hungry of a night time. When I give her the first mouthful of food she breaks out in a huge smile and laughs. She talks all the way through eating, which sometimes results in her gagging. Its hilarious.

Oh, Jules. I would have blown their head off. But I'm not worried about my inlaws thinking I'm a biatch!! lol.

charlotte- we havnt done carrot but banana and pumpkin are a big hit here, rice ceral is a major miss, but ive been trying the organic bellamys baby porrige, she seems to like that a bit more than rice ceral....

Hi ladies hope you all had a good weekend

Well i'm buggered... I'm too old to go out partying these days :lol:

I had a great night and my god i loved being dressed up all burlesqueish we were a bit of an eye catching group.

Harper Barper (Charlie calls her Barper) didnt' behave too well for her dad though :shakehead: I did pj's and massage and put her to bed before i left but she never went to sleep and must have known (how on earth i do not know) that i was going out because she was a very cheeky girl from then on. Would not take the bottle (she has before but not very often) and she would not sleep. She did a lot of screaming apparently. It was just one night :wall: Mummy wanted to go out and be free just this once!!! Anyway she was asleep in our bed when i got home about 3ish and i fed her and put her in her cot and she didn't wake until 7ish. Aside from that i and a great night, had a dance at the pub which i hadn't done in years and felt pretty sexy dressed up in my corset and fishnets i wish i could dress like that more often :D

Jules that would drive me crazy. With Aidan i was very particular about what he'd eat in the way of junk and i tried to gentley get my point across to friends and family about this. I never had anyone deliberately do it in front of me like you describe though. It's one thing to give a toddler chocolate when you've asked them not to but it's a whole over ball game when it's a baby who has not yet had their first tastes of food. You and DH need to make your wishes pretty clear. My theory with the junk food was that as long as he didn't know what he was missing out on i wouldn't give it to him. I wouldn't make it that he can't eat it when he clearly sees everyone else around him eating it but still a baby/toddler doesn't need it. MIL would take Aidan to the playcentre on occasions and i ended up having to ask her not to give him the dora/ben 10 juice drinks as he'd come home all hyped up. She knows what i'm like now and she really does try and respect that which is good. My mum's pretty good though she's concious of what she eats so she's good with the kids.

Good to hear how you guys are going Crumpet. Sounds like Summah is enjoying her new food experiences.

So are the wedding plans coming along well Charlotte?? Sat night was my SIL's (to be...) Hen's Night and the wedding in on the 28th. Sept (i think that's when you said your date was :doh:) will come around really quickly.

I just want it gone it's so damn itchy and uncomfortable. The only thing now is that the Dr has said that with me being on antibiotics there is a higher risk that both Harper and i may end up with thrush :rolleyes: I really hope not but i have to get this fixed.

That's it for me i need my bed. Sweet dreams girls.

Yes she won't have to be without her mummy like that again, it was a very special one off for me. A year or more maybe.... Haha but it's really such a short amount of time in the grand scheme of things.

Yep MIL now knows that i prefer the boys to have Milk or Water and that is it. We can have Emonade (as Aidan calls it) when we are at a restaurant but that is a special occasion.

I'm off to get organised we are going to visit my SIL and niece today. (We had some deep and meaningfuls at the Hen's Jules so lets see where this may take us???)

summah had oral thrush when she came home from hospital becasue of the anti biotics she was on for the infection she got, we had to give her nilstat and it took us nearly 4 weeks to get it cleared up properly! but we had no idea she had it until the MCHN saw it so we didnt catch it as quickly as we would have if we had known to look for it.


all is going well here, summah is cruising along happily so thats nice!
im having issues with a problem shoulder thats making life a bit difficult with lifting her and stuff but what do u do? ;) its not like i cant look after her so im just dealing with it as best i can.

we are off to the barossa valley next thursday for a few days, cant wait!
will be summahs first time on a plane and our first family holiday!:dance:

Well, I've had a big couple of days! Hannah going through a 'phase' where apparently sleeping is for babies. Sunday, she had about 3 hours sleep all day and yesterday was about the same. On Sunday I rocked her to sleep twice. And yesterday I just kept her up til she finally was nearly asleep on the floor and put her to bed.
I felt like i was going mad. When I'd put her to bed she'd cry and cry and hold her breath and gag because she's so upset. I have no idea what her problem was. She's usually up for an 60 - 90 minutes. And after an hour she'd display signs of tiredness. But 3 hours later she'd still be up. She's 5 months old!!! She can't stay awake for 4 hours!!! With only an hours sleep at a time!!!
She seems OK today. So far.

Just a random thought -- but MAN ITS COLD!!!! I really need to get the fire going, it went out overnight. And I've been entertaining FIL as he was visiting and so I didn't get it going.
My fingers are cold. Need to get the lounge warm before Hannah wakes up.

hun i could have written this post exactly last week!!!

O M G!! it was HELL!!!

summah decided that morning sleeps were a no go anymore :doh: and would scream blue murder when i put her to bed..... she would chock and cough and scream and carry on, it was rediculous!
she decided that no, i dont need a dummy when i go to bed and that ill just keep screaming till she gets me up...hmmm not happening kiddo!
i tried keeping her up a extra half hour than usual = FAIL
i tried putting her down a bit earlier = FAIL
i tried letting her stay up till she was tired = FAIL she went to sleep on the floor! :o
i tried patting and shhhhh-ing her = FAIL thought that was game coz i was still in the room
i tried going in to reassure her i hadnt left her = FAIL thought that was a great game

in the end i left her to cry it out one day and it took a full 30 minutes for her to go to sleep! :o i was on the nerge of a nervous break down becasue i didnt know what to do and it was the only thing i hadnt done.

by saturday she improved, and sunday was a slight improvement again...

yesterday and today we are back to normal, going down no issues at all!!

she has cut her morning sleep to a hour instead of 2, but it seems to be working fine..

hang in there if she is doing what summah did its a phase!

She's been in bed just over an hour and she's waking up, so maybe she is cutting the morning sleep. My beloved morning sleep. Thats when I get all the housework done.

I put her to bed and let her cry, provided she didn't do the holding breaths or gagging. She took 30 minutes yesterday, and 15 minutes this morning.
But, I'll admit, that we have always left her to do alot of 'self soothing' I guess you could call it. She's always been put to bed (when she's tired) and puts herself to sleep. We don't cuddle her to sleep or anything. I don't have anything against parents who co-sleep or cuddle bubs to sleep. We just choose not to. :-)

Well, better go get miss feral up. I wish I had more sleep last night. I usually go to bed at 9 (horror!!) and was up til 11 last night. I feel horrible... Those 2 hours really do help.

I'm glad Summah's back to normal. It gives me hope that 'this too shall pass'.

summah has always self settled i have never had to settle her so when i do im stumped!

Thanks girls, glad to see it's not just me being *****d about it. I am ABSOLUTELY NOT ok with what he did, and I actually forgot to mention that I cought my BIL (SIL's husband - not my actual brother) rubbing ice over his lips and letting him suck on it...I asked him not to then found out last night when talking to DH that he had caught his OTHER sister (not the one that just had a baby) doing the SAME thing!!! ARGH, makes me wild. All it does is make me not trust them even more but the difficult part is, if I say "please stay close by, I don't trust you with him when it comes to giving him things after I specifically ask no" they will just do it more to try and get under my skin. It's a no win situation and sadly the only thing I can do to avoid it is to not be around them at all .... which makes me even worse of a person in their eyes.

Charlotte - That's great Hannah is enjoying her solids!! Hope the wedding plans are coming along nicely, I love weddings :) I am sorry to hear Hannah has been a cheeky little girl with her sleeps but if it makes you feel any better, I had a few weeks of the same thing...yes, not days....weeks. But things settle down in their own time, I just go with the flow, it keeps me sane that way.

MadB - How's Miri doing? Has she been sleeping for you? I often think of you when Jacobs being a cheeky bum with his sleeps :)

EJ - I am sooo glad you had such a wonderful night, you totally deserved it!! Sounds like it was so much fun! I bet you looked awesome. :) Bit of a bummer Harper misbehaved for her daddy but at least it gave you a chance to have some time to yourself, we know how rare that can be!! I'm not ready to leave Jacob yet but I'm sure by the third I'd be getting a little more relaxed about things :) Good luck today with your SIL, sometimes it just takes a bit of communication. Unfortunately in my situation communication does squat. But I have my :crossfingers: for you. I hope the itchy bb's sort themselves out soon! What a pain...and I am really hoping that you don't have to deal with thrush.

Hello to everyone else, I hope you and your little ones are doing well. We are at my mum and dads now till early next week, Jacobs christening is this Sunday, bit excited!!! My SIL and her baby are doing ok...there have been a few complications and to be completely honest with you, I'm not 100% sure they are treating her or her baby very well in there. DH and I have talked about it and we just can't believe the things that are happening. He was born just short of 37 weeks and she had pethadine (sp?) when she was in labour and he was really affected by it. There are some blood group issues etc but the thing that confuses me is the midwives were saying 'he wont' latch' so she was hand expressing colostrum and was getting out what I thought was heaps! but before he was 48 hours old they were supplement feeding him with formula and he was sucking on the bottle like a little champion. I didn't even see a midwife around trying to offer help with attachment. He's now being TUBE FED?! (the tube was put in just after he was 48 hours old...) Very strange but I guess they have their reasons, I am no expert. She's getting milk but they are making her express and only getting her to express for every second feed....hmmmm. Not my place to get involved.

After having a baby in Special Care, which I assume he is in, I can say that they are not doing the best they can. She should be expressing EVERY 3 HOURS, regardless of whether he has formula or not. She needs to ask questions. Lots and lots of questions. She can't be left with "I don't knows", its HER child and she deserves to know everything. They can't hold information from her.
Gah, things like that make me mad. I know how hard Special Care is.

See Charlotte, that's what worries me, he's not in special care!! He's in her room all the time! and the doc requested he be put in the humicrib the whole first night but the midwives didn't do it!!! Makes me so angry. She's not standing up to them at all so they are walking all over her! DH spoke to his mum about it and she got really defensive and argued with him so clearly we can't help them so we just have to sit back, watch and hope for the best.

Having an NGT (the tube) means that he has to be supervised, because if he has a coughing fit or anything the tube can go into a lung. He needs to be in SCN.
Try and make her express every 3 hours, its a drag. I did it for nearly 7 weeks while Hannah was in hospital.
She really needs to stand up to them. They're not doing their job.
How frustrating!! I'm frustrated and its not even my family!!
