Hi all,
We are going well here. Had a good night last night. Mia went to bed at 7pm, woke for a feed at 4am, then woke up at 7.15am. She has only had a catnap this morning though, I think she is ready for another sleep now.
Sara- that is awesome that Aimee is rolling and Jasmine is toilet trained! What an achievment. Did it take long for Jasmine to be toilet trained?
Isabel- I was up early this morning too, before Mia. It was nice to get a few things done before she woke.
I didnt do much tummy time with Mia until a couple of weeks ago. Now she really enjoys it. I didnt bother doing it when she hated it, not for more than a few minutes anyway. I doubt it has a great impact on their development.
Kitt3n- how cute about the sleeping in the sling. M doesnt sleep well at all when we go out, so I try only to go out when she just wakes up. Im hoping she will get better as she gets older. She does the same as your little laa though, and as soon as I put her in her cot in her sleeping bag, dummy in, she turns her head and falls asleep straight away. It did take her a few weeks to do this though. Im glad I persisted, even when she cried, I would not pick her up, I would just keep walking in and putting the dummy in. Now it is paying off. I thought it would always be that way lol, thank god it isnt.
What is baby lead weaning? Just waiting til they are ready?
-
kitten - I am thinking of trying BLS this time round, seems so much easier, no special preparation or buying bland baby food. Mum has already asked me when Im going to start solids (as in she thinks Aimee is ready now). Aimee likes to sit on my lap and watch me eat but hasn't tried to grab food yet. I think in the next month or so she might be ready (she will be 6 months in about 6 weeks eek)
Skye- BLS or baby led weaning is when you offer baby foods you eat as a family, often starting with fruits and vegies cut into chip shapes. The idea is if the baby is developed enough to pick up the food and put it in their mouth they have the devlopmental skills required to chew it and swallow. Babies get to experience the texture, feel and taste of food and decide what they eat at their pace. Ahould be fun but I think its going to be a lot messier than spoon feeding puree
-
Ive never heard of that before!
Im steaming some pumpkin at the moment to freeze for Mia, Ill give it to her in a few weeks. Im going to give her purees first :)
She has had 4 sleeps today...TINY cat naps! Oh well, not much you can do when they wake up after 30 mins  I havent been sticking to the routine, so that may be why.
-
Coming on to Vent today
I've just spent the last 2 hours listening to Elise scream her little lungs out.
It's so heart breaking, I can't stand it.
I don't know what was wrong, tried all the usual tricks nothing worked, ended up giving her panadol just in case but it didn't seem to do anything.
I can see two bottom teeth just below the surface, I don;t know if it was that, or she was just over tired and over stimulated, just one of those afternoons.
In the end she just cried until she was exhausted and fell asleep.
I put her to bed just like I normally do in the afternoon, she normally goes right to sleep on the boob. I feed her in bed and she stays there and has her usual 45 min cat nap.
We were just both in tears, I had to leave her so i could vomit in the end, just before she finally gave in to the sleep, just makes me physically ill when she cries like that.
*deeps breaths* going to take me a while to wind down from this one, I hope she stays asleep for a while.
-
oh laura hugs hun. sounds like the teeth - all you can do is cuddles (and make sure you take a breath for yourself). Is hubby home? Can you go have a hot shower?
sara - i am going to get the breastfeeding assosciation's booklet on BLW - they had an info session here yesterday ut i was too sick to get my butt down there. have you done any reading? i'd be interested to hear what you have come across, it just seems to make much more sense.
skye - are you following a strict regime? laa settled into her routine all by herself, i have never left her to cry - did you watch bringing up baby on the abc? was very interesting, there were some couples there who followed strict routines. i love that video you have on FB she is just adorable!!!
we have a pooooo pooo girl in the house again - a new nappy at least once an hour - she is hardly wetting them but plenty of poo! thinking it might be the teeth.
-
Thanks Cat,
Hubby wasn't home at the time but she ended up sleeping til 8pm and has just gone down agan now for the night. She was a happy bub when she woke up so perhaps she was just over tired and over stimulated.
I did give her some braurers teething relief when she woke up, maybe that helped settled her.
Magic stuff if it did!!
I'm thinking about doing BLW as well. I am just a bit apprehensive because Abby would just gulp down anything that was near her mouth all in one go, llittle vacuum, nothing much has changed. I can not tell you the amount of times she almost choked on food because she couldn't get the concept of slowly sucking or mashing in her mouth, was hey, let's shove this whole banana in my mouth and swallow it all at once. Had a few close calls, she even went blue once.
Having said that though Elise is such a different bubba to Abby she might be completely fine with it.
I'll give it a go.

Hi ladies,
Haven't been on in awhile ~ we used up all our gig allowance and the computer was running ridiculously slow....no time to sit around and wait for pages to load. Today has been one of those days with Ochre. Really have no idea what his problem is but he hasn't had much to drink today so I'm pretty sure we are in for a rough night. I don't know if it's teeth but he latches on and then within seconds pulls off and just goes hysterical. I wait patiently for him to settle down and try him again and after a few more fits we eventually get there but he only half drains one side. During his crying he goes stiff in the body and arches his back - does anyone know if that could be wind? He has been waking for feeds 3 hourly in the night lately too. I think I will start him on solids at about 5.5 months. I am drowning in a sea of sleep deprivation at the moment and it's not making life easy. I hate feeling like a grouchy old bear in the mornings....it's not fair on my other boys. All these broken nights are making me feel like I'm losing my sparkle so to speak. I hope things improve soon.
Ochre has found his feet and is enjoying holding onto them and rolling onto his sides. Now that he can grab them it's making change time a whole new ball game too! Hard to dress a baby when they keep wanting to chew their own toes! Sorry for no personals ladies. Was good to read and catch up. Have a great weekend :)

Hi Everyone
I have been speaking to a few of you on facebook and it seems a few of us might have teething babies at the moment. Big hugs for everyone who is going through it - Maya is my first baby and its a shock to me. Maya just screams most of the time and was up every few hours last night screaming. I am about to lose it! I have been giving Maya Panadol or Nurofen, Hylands Teething relief, infants friend, teething gel and just bought a amber necklace lol (though I haven't used all the above at the same time!).
Can anyone recommend anything else that works? I will try the Hylands 2 tablets, every hour for 3 hrs tonight to see if she will sleep... I try giving her a cold teething rusk but unless I hold it she doesn't seem that keen on it.
Maya is now 5 months old! Can't believe in a months time she will be eating solids and in the front facing car seat - crazy times. What are the signs that your baby is ready for solids?
Hope everyone else is going ok and getting some sleep
-
mel_cur - I hope maya's gums are better, bonjela is our saviour at the moment
In the last week and a half Aimee has been grabbing food off my plate at lunch and trying to eat it! She is only 5 months and 1 week now but I gave her some watermelon today. She chomped away on it for ages. Im not sure how much she swallowed but she sure had fun. (this baby led solids idea is great but oh so messy lol )Jasmine has broken a lot of the keys on the lap top so she is in the bad books at the moment.
Aimee is in the 95bpercentile for height but her weight percentile has dropped a bit, the gp just told me to try and get a couple of extra feeds in and have her weiged in a fortnight but she is not overly concerned. I think part o the problem was I got gastro and became dehydrated and my milk supply dropped a bit.
Hope everyone is doing well cant believe how fast time is going
take care

hi everyone
We are going really well here. I have been worried about the dummy, Mia needs it to settle herself to sleep for each and every sleep, which is fine, but has been waking when it falls out. So today we went to sleep school- and no more dummy! Was a very hard day, hard work, a bit upsetting, but tonight she fell asleep with no dummy, and self settled. Good little girl!
She is loving her solids, eating fruits and vegies. :)
ll80- oh I was so upset to read your other post- you poor thing! Oh :( It is so hard listening to them cry, but much worse when there is nothing you can do about it! Mia has done that a few times, screamed and screamed and nothing will make her stop, both of us ending up in tears :( I hope she has been better lately, poor little munchkin.
Kitten- Yeah I watched the program. We arent doing a strict routine, but a rough (flexible one) which is waking at 7, sleeps whenever she is tired, dinner at 5.30, bath at 6, bottle at 6.30, bed at 7. She does that every night, and it is working really well for us.
Lol hope the poo has lessened lol...any signs of teeth?
Littlelalla- OMG Mia does that sometimes too! While she is drinking she arches her back and screams like she is in pain, not sure what it is! Hope your little man is ok, the pic of you two is GORGEOUS.
Sara how has the extra feeding been going? LOL @ her grabbing your food! hahaha so cute. I havent tried Mia with chunks yet...oh I lie, she has sucked on a bannana before she LOVED it.
Does anyone have those things where u put the fruit in a net thing and bub can suck it?
Mel- how is Maya going? Try Brauers teething relief- it is GREAT!

Hey girls!
Hope everyone's Easters were great! We went to Adelaide for a week and stayed with my family. I consumed soo much chocolate and brought back a whole bag full - managed to palm a lot of it off to my inlaws when we got back yesterday. On Monday I will be starting a new diet (which means NO chocolate) so i'm hoping that bag no longer resides in my house - i don't need the temptation! I'm finding ochre spews more when i eat chocolate so that's another good reason to cut it out. I'm starting him on solids next week - he will be 5 months tomorrow. I was going to wait til 6 months but to be honest with you all i really think he needs it. He's not the most settled baby and because he still feeds at 10 ishpm and 3ish am and then again at 6ish am most nights i think the food will help him to sleep longer. It's been weird to keep him off solids for this long as my other two boys started at 4 months. I was in a breastfeeding parents room in Myers the other day and another Mum was feeding her 5 month old and he was going crazy over his food - couldn't get enough. I'm very excited to start him :) I think i will do a combination of baby led and purees.
Skye - wow sleep school!! you are so lucky to have that where you live :) i can just imagine how hard it must have been but very worth it if you can get her back on track. ochre still has a dummy but he's not that reliant on it anymore. He usually spits it out before he's even fallen asleep so im not worried about him having it. I have one of the those net things! I didn't use it heaps with Zephyr but I will get it out for Ochre as he loves putting everything in his mouth.
Sara - oh when Zephyr was 2 he attacked his Dad's laptop too and managed to pull off over half the keys!! so naughty!! it's a good thing they can be put back on! i can just imagine how messy the watermelon was ~ are u giving her some kind of food everyday now?
mel - oh u poor thing ! and poor Maya! I agree with Skye ~ the Brauers teething relief is good. Some babies just suffer more than others. My first son never had one moment of teething - we actually never really knew when a new tooth appeared...he was so happy and contented all the time! DS 2 and DS 3 aren't so lucky :(
Hello to the rest of you lovely ladies and growing babies! xx
-
Hey ladies!!!! How are you all? I'm so mad because I found this thread about 3 months ago and since then I never got an email notification to say that this thread had been updated. I was just scanning through this site now and here you all are!!! :wall:
I've been reading all your posts and it sounds like I'm not alone.....with many things. More importantly with the teething! Aaliyah has been chewing on everything she sees for the last week and dribbling all over the place. Bonjela has been working like a charm but still gets frustrating when I wake at 5 in the morning to see her chewing on the blanket and it's over her head!
Glad to hear everyone is doing well and all your babies are growing to be healthy and happy. Hopefully I won't lose touch again and I've saved this site to my favourites :D
I'll give you a quick run down of Aaliyah's routine and how she's been..... I'm still breastfeeding and am thankful for it because I didn't think I would get this far. She normally wakes at 8:30am has her feed and goes down around 9:30. Sleep for 2 hours but wakes in-between and somedays goes right through. Feeds at 12:00pm then has a play for 1 1/2 hours. Goes back to sleep around 1:30, 2:00 the latest and is up at 3:30. Has another feed and I put her down for about another hour and that's it. By 6:30 I give her a breastfeed but not a long one because at 7:30 she has ber bath and then I give her the bottle. She takes 210mL then I even top her up with a breast feed. She's up at 5:00am for a feed then the day starts again at 8:30am. She's a happy baby and I cant' complain. Night time is frustrating coz she doesn't go down to sleep straight away. She'll sleep for about half an hour then wakes up crying and we have to re-settle her. Unfortunately she depends on the dummy however I'm happy but I will get rid of it sooner or later.
Look fwd to staying in touch

queenb - great to have you back on the thread hon :) Aaliyah sounds like she is doing really well! i never get email notifications for this thread either so I just keep popping in every now and again.
Well, Ochre is really enjoying solids. I started him on pumpkin which he wasn't too impressed with so I moved onto sweet potato and he doesn't mind that but he definitely has a sweet tooth (just like his mummy!) as he looooves pear!! Today I started him on pear in the morning and then sweet potato tonight with pear for dessert and he ate it all! His poos have changed as well....what's coming out is looking exactly like what's going in hehe....and just about every nappy has it in it!! I've introduced a bottle with water in it as I read breast babies need a little extra water when they start solids. He is not sure what to do with it but with a little perserverance I'm sure he'll get it :)
So far his nightly feeds haven't changed much - he's still doing 3.5 to 4 hourly blocks of sleep in the night. I had him weighed on his 5 month birthday and he has dropped down on the percentage scale. The move to start solids was the best thing for him as he really knows already what it's all about and tries to grab the spoon when it comes near him. His eyes light up when he sees it and his tongue pops out...he looks so cute ;) He tried some watermelon and really enjoyed sucking on that. I think the coolness of it soothed his gums as well. He is strong enough now to sit for short periods in his walker and he is loving touching, sucking and playing with all the bits and bobs on it. I am going to hunt down the jolly jumper too....my other boys loved that! xx
-
queenb glad you found the thread again
littlelala- Aimee also dropped on the percentage scale at 5 months (so did Jasmine) so we have increased feeds and started solidsat 5 1/2 months. Aimee is still gaining about 100g a week so the gp wasn't too concerned. You are right about the nappies I forgot how bad they get. Aimee has had apple, pear and banana she loves them all and tries to grab the spoon and feed herself. I am giving purees as well as food she can feed herself like watermelon and banana. We are doing one meal a day at the moment but will increase to 2 in the next couple of weeks.
The girls were in the toy room together the other day and JAsmine kept showing Aimee a little toy phone, everytime she opened it Aimee cracked up laughing. It was so loveley seeing them interact/play like that. Im sure there will be arguements as they get older but it just melts my heart when they laugh and smile together

Hi everyone!
Littlelalla & skyeblue (and anyone else on solids): we are looking to put Lachlan on solids at 5 months. We want to do the traditional mushy food rather than baby led solids. If it was up to DH Lachlan would be on three meals by now but iv managed to keep the spoon away from him. ha ha. How did you start introducing solids?? e.g what meal did you introduce it at, what did you first introduce (farex etc), when did you know how to increase or add new meals and did you introduce one new vegetable fruit at a time or did you just mix two or three together. So many questions. We are looking to start early mainly due to the fact that ds always seems sooo hungry but usually throws up huge amounts of his feed. Hopefully he will stop chucking but im not holding my breath.
Skyeblue how are you going with the dummy?? Iv been toying with the idea of getting rid of the dummy. we always said that we would get rid of the dummy at 6 months but now im not sure. it really helps lachlan settle when he goes to bed and he spits it out when he is asleep and doesn't usually need it to be reinserted but im scared that he will get too dependant. although he has discovered his thumb but hasn't quite worked out how to suck it to settle yet. just pokes himself in the eyes with his other fingers and that upsets him more
No signs of teeth here yet thank goodness. not looking forward to that. although lachlan has had a red sore bum which he never had before and i heard that can be a sign of teething but nothing yet. Prob not far off though.
Well ill be all alone next week as DH is going away for the week. He is in the air force and usually does alot of trips but things have been quiet and i think they finally got the message that he doesn't want to do trips anymore so this is my first trip since lachlan was born. He was away for most of my lst trimester which was interesting and just managed to get home for lachlans birth as the bugger decided to show up early. Usually he is away for a min of two weeks though so this is nice and short. He is going overseas though and will be flying most of the week so will be hard to keep in contact which sucks. Im sort of looking forward to the challenge of doing it on my own but at the same time im getting scared. I find it really hard to bath lachlan because of my back so not sure how i will bath him next week so he might be a bit stinky by the tie dh gets home! Hopefully this will be the last trip though as dh starts a new position in juky with no shift work and minimal if any trips and that is for three years so woopy! Then again having him around all the time might be annoying!!
Other than that things have been going well. Lachlan is sleeping alot better during the day, usually 1.5 to 2 hours which is great  Dont ask me for the secret though as he just decided all of a sudden one day that he wanted to sleep more and did. Although when we are out its a problem as he doesn't sleep for long in the pram but i think thats my fault as he has had a shade on his window all summer as the room gets really hot and that makes it pretty dark in there so now he likes to sleep in semi darkness. I think iv made a rod for my own back but now im scared to take the shade up as he was up at 730 this morning rather than his usual 830 as he normally does when the shade is down. woops.
I was also going to ask, Lachlan has developed a bit of a hatered for the car seat. He tries to sit up and pull forward in the rear facing seat and of course he cant because of the seat belts which annoys him and he cries. Im not going to turn the car seat around till six months even though he meets the weight criteria so any ideas on what to do in the mean time? He has a mirror which he looks but he isn't interested in that at the moment, he just wants to sit up. I have to drive over an hour with him next week on my own so i really dont want him screaming the whole way, any ideas??
Hope you are all well!

Hi Ladies and Bubs,
It has been ages since i have been on here, i also wasnt receiving the emails and then one came through today, so here i am.
It sounds like everyone and bubs are doing really well. It is so amazing that our bubs are getting close or at / past the 5 month mark. Lily will be 5 months in a little over a week. She has been on solids now for about 3 to 4 weeks and loves it. She is having it 3 times a day and she has the boob 4 times a day. I decided to start her on it as she was more interested in what we were eating than the boob. She now grabs out glass when we are drinking and tries to drink out of it. She actually nearly has it down pat. She wont touch a bottle anymore which made it hard to give her some water, so i now have to give her a sipper cup. It scares me how fast she is growing up. She is now sleeping 11 hours straight at night she goes down at 8pm and then is up at 7am. She has always been a fantastic sleeper, but i am now wanting to try and get her to do 7pm to 7am, hopefully we are not far off it. How is everyone going with the sleeping???
Hope you are all feeling well.
xx
I also bought her a jolly jumper and she loves it.

Isabel- i have quite a few really good baby food books ( my fave being Annabel Karmel's Top 100 Baby Purees) and most of them say it's good to introduce a new food every week as that way you can determine if bubs has any reaction to it. You don't really have to stick to it though - I introduced 3 new foods in about 3 days...no problems here :) Farex or baby rice cereal is a good first food and if you mix it with your own breast milk the milky taste makes for an easy transition to solids. I skipped the farex as my other two boys weren't interested in it but soon I will use something like that to mix in with the pear puree to give it more. Other great first foods are root vegetables like carrots, sweet potato, parsnip and swede. Apple and pear are good first fruit purees and banana and papaya don't require cooking so they can be easily mashed. It is recommended to give their first meal in the morning so you have the day to see if they react to it or not. Berry and citrus fruits and seafood shouldn't be given til after 6 months and honey should not be given before they are one. As to how much, I am giving Ochre roughly 2 icecube sized blocks for each meal and he is handling that really well. Every baby is different though so just go with what bubs wants. Ochre is not a good car traveller either and my only way around it is to put all the boys in the back seat so I have one to pop his dummy in when he needs it.
Anthea - Lily sounds like a dream baby! What kind of sippy cup do you use? I thought about going straight to something like that with O as he's never used a bottle. I think I will do that if the bottle idea doesn't work.
Sara- oh that's so cute :) My older boys have worked out how to make Ochre giggle! Just have to watch and make sure they don't go overboard ;) The drop in percentage worried me a little as he had only put on 200grams in a month!!! I didn't see how I could increase feeds either as he is already feeding 3 - 3.5 hourly in 24 hours!! And I really didn't want to introduce formula so solids was the way to go. When Aimee eats banana and watermelon how do u give it? Little pieces?
xx
-
Anthea- lily sounds like she is doing well, they are growing up so fast. Aimee hasn't had water yet but I might start her on a sippy cup soon as she keeps grabbing Jasmine's
isabel - good luck when DH is on his trip, have you tried washing lachlan in the laundry sink? it might be better on your back. Im sure a sponge bath with a wet flannel and a bowl of warm water would be fine for a week and save your back
littlelala- with banana sometimes I mash it but if we are doing BLS I cut it in half lengthwise and in half cross ways (does that make sense) so she has 1/4 of a banana, watermelon I cut into a potato chip shape so about 2cmx 6cm roughly. It needs to be fairly long or it just gets smooshed in her fist. She doesn't get a lot in when she feeds herself but she seems to enjoy it.

What's up ladies!
Well we're starting Aaliyah on solids this weekend! I can't wait. I would have started her earlier but hubby wants to me home and give her the first spoon :) Will start on the Farex.....she's eating everything these days or should I say chewing! not only that when she sees the boob she attacks it now like she's starving so it's time for her to eat!
Isabel B - we have the same problem here with the dummy! I wanted to get rid of it @ 6 months but she settles so much better and then spits it out later on. I'm not sure what to do either? Also Aaliyah likes to sit up in the car seat also. Our babies sound similar hehe.....so you're not alone!
I cant beleive how quick time flies. We're going to pierce hey ears on her 5 Months, do chemists still do it these days? Also with the car seat, when do you change it so they are facing forward? I can't remember.....hahaha
anyways I hope all is well xx

Hi All
Well DH didn't go away yesterday, plane was broken (makes me sooo confident) and they ended up going today. I was feeling pretty good about being alone with Lachlan but now im not sure. He has been so unsettled the last couple days. I really dont know what has gotten into him. Poor little mite just cries and cries and i feel on the verge of a nervous breakdown and DH has only been gone two hours!!
I think he may be unwell as DH and i have had shocking colds in the last week and it would be a miracle if he didn't catch it. He doesn't have a snuffy nose or anything but is very unsettled but when you pick him up he wiggles to try and get out of your arms. I have given him some panadol and put him back to bed but he wakes up every 5 minutes or so and winges a bit. I just dont know what else to do. I also need to rock him to sleep at every sleep now which is very strange for him as normally i just wrap him and pop him in bed and he goes to sleep within a few minutes with his dummy. I hate it when he is like this. It is heartbreaking. The only thing that keeps him semi happy is watching kids tv which i know is bad but i just dont know what else to do.
On a happier note he rolled for the first time from back to front on the weekend  but on an annoying note he now wont stop rolling onto his tummy and when he gets there he realises that he doesn't want to be there and screams till you roll him back over  We also missed the first roll  as i was in another room and dh was in the kitchen cooking and wasn't watching him at the time (the house is open plan so he wan't in a room all on him own) He has been rolling from front to back for awhile now but for some reason he has stopped in the last month or so. Very strange and very annoying.
Queenb our car seat can be turned around at 8kg i think which lachlan is over but im worried about his head control a bit so i am putting up with it till he is 6 months old. Not really that far away as he will be 5 months next week on mothers day. I think alot of hairdressers do ear piercing.
Oh we also tried lachlan on some solids on the weekend, just some of that heinz organic rice cereal and it all ended up on his chin, not much actually ended up in his belly which was quite funny. He enjoyed it but i think that had more to do with the attention he was getting. Might try again at 5 months as he is obviously not ready yet. How did Aaliyah go with her first solids Queenb? I also let DH have the first spoon as i figure we get all of the other first, may as well give him one of the firsts that we can actually control!

Hi All
Finally back online after the move!
We started Maya on solids this week - I think she likes it as she is eating more each sitting now. I have tried farex plain, farex with banana, farex with avo, apple sauce and pear sauce. I used jars but I want to make my own (I wasn't sure if she was ready for solids yet). I have her eating solids twice a day but she still has a bottle after it as she gets frustrated. So thats 5-6 bottles a day plus the 2 solid feeds. Should I stop her having the bottle after the solid feeds?
I haven't let her feed herself yet but once I start cooking my own food I will cut some up for her. What sort of food should I give her?
Maya is sleeping through the night and is going to bed earlier now. A few times we have let her cry herself to sleep. She crys for about an hour or more then goes off. She also has really red cheeks so I guess she might be teething as well?
I need to buy a front-facing car seat - any suggestions?
Sorry for lack of personals but there is no way to catch up now! Hope everyone is going super
Mel

ah lag caused this to post twice

Hi everyone
Going ok here...Mia is still waking for a feed once a night, at around 3.30 or 4am...seems like alot of you have bubs who sleep through! No fair lol.
She has really grizzly days, I think she might be bored?? I cant get much done, and my gosh, at about 5pm- 7 she is really hard work! Witching hour I suppose!
Solids are going well, she eats so much and loves every food except for farex. She loves pears, sweet potato, pumpkin, carrot, ANYTHING really! I give her rusks sometimes too which she enjoys..
But other than that, she is great, rolling around and being very cute :D Loving it.
Sorry I have no time for personals either, I need to get a few things done while I can!
Hope everyone is well xx

Hey everyone! Finally got connected AGAIN! so over internet disruptions!!
Well Aaliyah has been on solids for a week now!!! Very excited and she's loving it!
For those who are starting and wondering what routine or when to feed milk to bubs I follow the routine from the book 'Save Our Sleep' It's been the only guide I can find because no sites mention anything about how to give solids. What I've been doing has been working just great!
Aaliyah wakes at 8 and I breastfeed. I wait half an hour and then feed her farex and pear for breakfast. Put her for down for her morning sleep, I try and give her at least 2 hours but it's always broken. When she wakes I feed her again, wait another half an hour and give her carrot (or any vegetable) then she sleeps again. Her 3:00 feed is just a breastfeed. She sleeps for 45 mins and at 5:30 I give her Farex. Then bath and bed by 7:00. I find the breastfeeds are shorter because she is filled up with solids! FINALLY! However every day she wakes up differently, sometimes 7:30 or even 8:30 but the day starts from there. I've been making my own food up and putting them into ice-cube trays. Then once its all done I just place them in bags and label the veggies and fruit. I suggest giving them fruit because it doesn't constipate babies, Aaliyah has been going regularly since we've started solids. It's been a blessing. She still wakes once through the night but I'm not fussed coz I'm getting my 8 hour sleep!
Veggies to start with are carrots, zucchini, sweet potatoe, pototoe well that's all I can think of at the moment because I've had a long day! Pears and apples are also good and they will love it. I also give Aaliyah one savoury and one sweet just to keep her interesterd in solids and she loves it!!!
Apart from that she's a happy baby and hopefully she can start rolling soon, she's already falling to one side now i'm just waiting for her to go on her tummy :) it's so cute!!
How is everyone else going with solids and there bubs in general?
-
Queenb sounds like your solids are going well. Ours are too. Mia eats so much. I usually give her a really big bowl of food and think "Ill give her half, save the rest for later", and she scoffs the lot! lol.
We also have many more poos being on solids!
Yucky!

Hi girls hope everyone had a great mothers day! I got to lay in bed reading until 10.30, I could get used to that! We are doing well, Aimee is rolling from tummy to belly and back now, she rolls to get to things she want's we have to check over the baby proofing again. Aimee's teeth have been bothering her this week but whe still hasn't cut one. We cant believe our little girl is six months old now. I have been a bit slack with the BLS as feeding her myself is quicker and cleaner, although she insists on holding the spoon too. Somedays she eats like a trooper and wants more, other times it seems more fun to blow raspberries while trying to eat, very messy but funny. Im happy to have made it to 6 months breastfeeding this time

Hi All
Hope you are all well and your bubs are doing well too! Hope you don't mind if I join in the thread :)
Our little boy Xander was born 8th December and is our first baby. He is a little champion and is growing like a weed! He's rolling from his front to back and all over the place and I think he cut his first tooth today!
He's on the save our sleep routine and does so well on it. We started him on solids at 4 months and he just can't get enough! He has three meals of solids a day, usually farex with pear and bananas in the morning, fruit for lunch and vegetables for dinner.
A question for the breasfeeding mums, since Xander has started solids its really difficult to keep his attention for the feeds, he kicks up a fuss three or four times at least and seems to empty each side within 10 minutes and some days its a real struggle to get him to last that long, and I"m worried that he's not getting enough fluids and thinking that perhaps I should put him onto formula. The only feed he doesn't do this is at his dreamfeed at 10.30 each night I think because he's asleep.

Hi bec welcome to the group
My DD is 6 months (she was 4 weeks early but I post in this group as my DD was around the smae time as a lot of the other girls). Aimee has been a pain to feed or the last 6 weeks as she is just too nosy, every time she hears something she pulls of and has to have a look, then back she goes for some more. I think it is quite common for them to get distracted at this age, and they get more efficent at feeding as they get older so feeds often get shorter. Sometimes I go in a quiet room if I don't want to deal with the on/off routine. If he is gaining weight well and still having plenty of wet nappies I wouldn't worry too much.
Today Aimee has learnt to blow raspberries and she and Jasmine have been blowing them to each other all arvo, it so cute. I also put Aimee in the walker the other day, she cant move it yet but loves the change of scenery, I just have to make sure Jas doesn't try an push her and tip it up lol. Aimee is still having two small meals a day, I am going to have her weighed again wed and once again its time for needles ahh!
-
Hi Bec! It isnt just BF bubs that do that, Mia is bottle fed and she also gets distracted and wants to look at everything, she always mucks around with her day bottles. Her night bottles are ok, she is too tired to play. We are on a very rough save our sleep routine, she is a catnapper, so the sleep times dont really work for us during the day, but I follow the bottle every 4 hours thing, and in bed by 7pm, and up at 7, or if earlier, no earlier than 7 for her morning feed.
Sleeping hasnt been so good, she is waking up 1, 2 or even 3 times a night, I only feed her once though. Please come through teeth!
Sara- aww so cute with the blowing raspberries! Mia hasnt worked that out yet....I was looking at walkers too, I really want to get Mia one. Oh yes, Mis is having her needles on Sat :( DH coming with me though so that is ok.
Hope everyone is well, very, VERY quiet in here! I think we all keep ion contact via FB now, lol.

Hi guys!
Sararose: Lachlan has been blowing raspberries for awhile now. So cute and lovely that they are interacting like that with us now.
Bec: Welcome to our group.
If you guys are on facebook add me as a friend. My email is isabel_lipka@yahoo.com.au I feel a bit left out missing out on this facebook action!
Things coming along here. Lachlan has started solids slowly. Not a huge fan yet so im not pushing the point. He will get there when he is ready. We have had some really unsettled days which i think may have been due to teeth. Poor bub has a bit of a cold at the moment and is a bit snotty which isn't fun. Seems to be in pretty good spirits during the day though so only really affecting us at night at the moment.
Are any other bubs trying to crawl and getting really frustrated on their bellies?? Lachlan is rolling constantly onto his belly then making semi crawling motions and not really getting anywhere. He gets so frustrated!
Hope your all doing well.
-
Hey Isabel, I have PMd you my name so you can add me to facebook!
Im hearing you about frustrated bubs. Mia gets annoyed because she cant move lol. Not long til she does. For now I am appreciating that she can stay in the one spot while I have a shower...but I have a big playpen all ready for when she starts crawling...:)

Hi ladies, I haven't been on here for awhile because DD is keeping me so busy! OK so she hasn't rolled yet but she's half way there. I think she's just lazy (like her dad)
She's been on solids for a month now and is loving food, not to mention always watching my plate and what I put in my mouth. Poor love has to wait a long time until she eats my food ;)
The latest that is happening with her and us is.......she is growing so beautiful day by day. I have a few issues because I'm still wrapping her and I want to stop however laying her down in her cot is just a laugh because she just bounces away and starts sucking on everything from the blanket to her fingers. I know she's teething but come out damn it! She still wakes up once during the night for a feed however the last cuople of nights she has been getting up a lil more often to bite on the blanket. She still sleeps in my room and I know I have to get her in her room some time this century but I find it hard to have the thought of leaving her alone in her room during the night. I dont know what is up with that, however because shes been waking up and also because I'm still breastfeeding it's just so easy to lean over and pick her up as oppose to walk into her room and feed her. Also the nights are just getting way to cold to even leave the room so for now I'm still happy with her next to me.
Apart from that things are good. She's awake more often and wants to play. She gets really bored quickly so I have to dedicate more time to her. I find it harder now to get things done during the day because she always wants my attention.....And she hasnt' started crawling yet! :wall: I'm making the most of having showers while leaving her on the floor in my site because I know the days she starts crawling I can kiss my mornings to myself goodbye hahahaha........
Hope everyone else is doing well.....:D
-
Hi queenb -sounds like your dd is growing beautifully. When dd1 started crawling I would strap her in her high chair in the bathroom and give her some toys while I showered lol
Aimee is doing well, she rolls everywhere and does it with purpose now to get to her toys. She is having 2 or 3 meals a day now. Still no teeth but her left cheek is red si it might be soon. The girls have colds and she is so snuffly poor little thing. Im back to work in less than a month, I can't believe its come so quickj
hope everyone is well

Hi mums and bubs,
It has been ages since i have been on here as well. I just dont seem to be able to find the time during my day. Just to add to my busy day with Lily, we have been told that our house has sold and we have 30 days to find a new one to rent and move!!! GREAT.....
Things are going really well for Lily and myself. She is developing nicely growing up to be a big girl a little too quickly though.
She has been rolling for a couple of months now, it is something that she does when she could be bothered, thinking she is a little lazy in that sense.
A question for you all, the last couple of days she has started to make this strange sound, it sounds like she is exhaling while doing a poo (if that makes sense) she seems to do it when she gets excited or is after attention. Anyone else experiencing anything similar?
QueenB - I also found it really hard to move Lily into her own room. I think she has now been in her own room for about a month. Everyone was on my back about it, telling me she should have been in her own room pretty much from day one. This didnt suit me at all. The first few nights when she did move into her room, which is about 1 metre from our room and i can also see her in her cot from my bed, I didnt really sleep. I was up every hour checking that she was ok and that she was still breathing etc. It was so hard. She was fine though, i think she really enjoys her own room now. Good luck!!! Do it when your ready.
Sararose - It sounds like Aimee is doing really well. You poor thing with going back to work, hasnt that time gone nice and quick!!! At this stage I wont be going back to work for a while.......I am really hoping this sticks, I completely love being a stay at home mum (i am guessing we all do) I guess I just have to keep my fingers crossed that things keep going well for DH's work!!!:crossfingers:
I cant believe i am up at 2am on the internet, it is very sad. Lily is sound asleep as per usual and i am awake stressing about finding a house.
We have been so lucky with Lily she has pretty much slept through from day one, she now sleeps 11-12 hours each night, it is wonderful.
Anyone have plans for another bub anytime soon???
-
Hey all.
I can't believe that it has been so long since I last got on here!
Jaycen is doing really well, he's over 8.5kg now and chowing down on the solids, though we have found that he is intolerant to a few foods - carrot, broccoli and coles brand sausages lol
He started rolling from his back to his tummy last friday, and now he just won't stop! lol I can't leave him alone for a second becauseas soon as I turn my back when he's on the floor he rolls over. What happened to my nice little quiet baby who was happy to just lie on his back and play with his toys while I did housework?
Anywaym other news, Jaycen cut his first tooth on sunday morning, and his second tooth yesterday morning. The poor little mite has been grizzling for months, so I'm glad that they've come through now, though I'm pretty sure that more won't be too far away as he's still grizzling a bit.
I'm a bit high on coffee at the moment, hence my being up after midnight.
Anthea22 - DF and I are planning on trying for bub number 2 somewhere around late november/early december, just before we get married, figured around 18 months in age difference would be good for them.
Anyway, I'd better go and try to get down from this coffee high so I can get some sleep.
Hope everyone is doing well.

hello everyone! its truly been a very long time since i was in here.
well, an update from here - laa has two teeth, still sleeps with me overnight (she still has a few feeds overnight so not changing that till she stops! and i like it :) ) and is 8kg. We were going to follow Baby Led Solids - but honestly if we did I wouldnt have been following her (ah! the irony!) as she just wants to eat everything and gets so frustrated if she has to "try" to eat it herself. So spooning we are :) Everything so far has been just what we are eating but cooked seperately without salt etc... a few days ago we were out and i tried to give her a jar of organic baby berries - she woulnt touch it :( Her favourite is weetbix with a dash of honey though! ah but the solids poos OMG!!! still hasnt worn a sposie :D
We have now branched out with our carriers and have a beetlebum, a vatanai wrap and a didymos ringsling on the way - also had two mei teis previously that she wouldnt have a bar of in the froggy position... but now they are GREAT, especially for back carries, she loves being in there and we dance around doing the vacuuming together, its silly fun :)
is anyone else cautious with GM foods with their little ones?
jenna - ah your wedding is creeping up so quickly! are you ready hun? its so very exciting
anthea - you sound like you are going really really well! when are YOU going back for another?I'd like to enjoy this summer with laa (a few glasses of champagne here and there too!) then start trying around late jan/feb......... but I still don't have AF lucky me !!
sara - how is work going hun? are you back full time or part time? i feel for you hun, I dont think I could focus on work and not think of laa
queen b - dont worry about getting her into her own room, she will eventually and then when she does you will miss her.... enjoy it while she is little hun
gucci - welcome!!! (bit late but hey!)
everyone else big huge coo eeee!!!

Hi Ladies,
Gosh I can't even remember the lst time I was in here - sorry! We must all be very busy with our bubs!
I have to say I love being a mummy! When I was pregnant I was never sure how I would handle it (I'm not very patient at the best of times) but I'm amazed at how naturally it has come to me. I'm dreading even thinking about returning to work later in the year, I really don't know how I will handle being away from Belle.
Well Belle got her first two teeth around 4 1/2 months and seems to have been teething on and off since but were still waiting for more teeth to show through. She started rolling front and back around 4 months and is now crawling everywhere. It's insane, she's into everything especially the bin and chewing on shoes ewww. I joke that we don't have a daughter, we have a dog!
Solids are going great guns too, and we finally have our sleep worked out. We ended up going to sleep school around 5 month as Belle was waking every half hour through the night and I just couldn't handle it anymore. She now sleeps through (hooray) and just the last week we have dropped one of her day sleeps so she is having and hour in the morning and two hours in the afternoon which is bliss. It's been a long time coming I tell you!
Well I've been having trouble getting rid of this baby weight (the half a block of choc every night doesn't help) so I'm booked in for my first lesson with a personal trainer today. I'm a bit scared I haven't done any exercise in about 10 years . But the trainer takes a small group of mums and you can bring your bubs too so I'm hoping it will be good.
I must admit, after labour I swore I wasn't having any more babies, but the idea has been lurking around my mind the last few weeks. I haven't mentioned it to DH yet as I'm not sure how he will take it as our brood is big enough with his 3 from a previous relationship! We'd almost need a bigger house!
Sorry for no personals, but it would have taken me forever to catch up on what everyone's been doing since I haven't been in here for soooo long! I hope everyone is well and I'll try to pop in a bit more often.

Kitten - I'm as ready as I'll ever be. We get our invitations this week, DF's sister is making them, so it saves us a bit of money. DF's other sister is making the cake - a two-tier white chocolate cheesecake. I'm making a necklace and bracelet for my maid of honour, which will only cost me about $5 in total (I make bracelets, earings and necklaces and sell pandora-style beads/charms and bracelets at the local market, so it's easy enough for me to do). I just have to find a black skirt to go with the black and purple corset that I got, and we only have $20 left to pay off my shoes. Now we just have to come up with the money to pay for the hall hire, celebrant, accommodation, catering and food.
Clair - I hear you about the baby weight. DF and I are on the Tony Ferguson Diet. DF has lost over 20kg in 9 weeks and I've lost about 5kg in 8 weeks (But I've been a bad bad girl and have been eating chocolate cake and peanut brittle lol). It only costs us about $45 each a week and I think it is well worth it. I don't eat nearly as much junk food these days as I used to, and I've gone off McDonalds and other fast foods like that. Can't even stand to eat anything greasy like fish and chips anymore either lol
-
Hi girls glad to see everyone is doing well
Clair - lol at the shoee chewing, Aimee likes to chomp on shoes. Rather embarrasing but dd1 got into the abthroom cupboards while I was putting clothes away and gave Aimee a tampon(unopened) to chew. Yuck, I quickly grabbed it and threw it away, thankgod she didnt choke on the wrapper.
JJ- Sounds like jaycen is growing up fast, once they start moving your in trouble lol. Aimee is rocking on all 4's and has just started moving forwards, she can go backwards for miles and wedges herself under beds, between the lounge chairs and in any crevice she can find lol
Anthea- no plans for our last bub yet, but Im starting to get clucky everytime I go through the maternity ward to go and express at work. We will wait until after our wedding in feb before thinking about number 3, Id like to wait til Aimee is 2 until we start trying.
kitt3n- lol about the BLS we tried it too but Aimee wanted food and would get so cranky when she couldnt get it in her mouth, I normally feed her mashed foods and then give her something to chew on while we eat, banana, rusks, brocoli and banana are favourites that she can feed herself. Last night I gave her 1/2 a milk arrowroot as Id run out of rusks, she really enjoyed it but Its going to be a rare treat for her (too much sugar). We still love our baby hawk mei tai, I use it all the time when I take both girls shopping, Aimee in the MT and Jas in the pram. i couldnt do it otherwise. Aimee still falls asleep in the mt and is so happy in there.
Im back at work just 2 days a week , Im working tuesdays and alternate weekends. Miss the girls but Im glad to be back in all honesty. I like my work and feel like Ive done some good when I get home and given my brain a work out. Sunday i said to tony thank god Im going to work as jasmine was throwing an almighty tantrum about something, her socks from memory. I dont think Id want to do more than 2 days a week, its just right for me now. Im still bf so I go and express once or twice a shift in our bf room and get to use works fantastic medela swing pumps (wish I could hide one under my jacket but they are too big lol ;).)
Im happy we have made it this far with bf although i did get my first nipple bite with teeth last night, I yelled no then felt terrible as she cried and broke her little heart but I couldnt help it it bloody hurt!!
