YAY TIM!!! Good job, what a relief! =D>

Too funny about Maddy rolling all over! Abby sleeps swadled still, with only her ams free. She sleeps from 10:30 - 5:00 or so, and then goes back to sleep (without eating) till 8:00! I guess I am just lucky!

She went BACK to the specialist today and got on more meds. Here she has been vomitting back up the meds she was on before they could get absorbed, so she was kinda going backwards. Oh well, more meds, my poor little babe! The good news, she is gaining weight like a champ! 13.5 pounds! Go Abby! Go Abby! ;)

Thanks sarajo! Jasmine is actually in the bath and my mum is holding her. I was trying to get one of her splashing, and instead she pulled that face LOL It cracks me up! Ive just about given up trying to get a photo with her showing her teeth! Her lips are always either closed or her tongue is hanging out, or she is trying to shove something in her mouth LOL!
Good to hear about Abby with the weight gain! I hope these meds work out better for her! Poor little thing. Hopfully she will grow out of it real soon anyway.

*LOL* @ the new photo of Jasmine Kate! hehe She looks like she feels the whole situation is amusing. Hope you're going ok! Isn't it typical about them not showing what you want for a photo? Our digital camera has like a 3 second delay before the actual photo is taken when using the flash. SOOO frustrating as you have to almost anticipate their facial expressions.

YAY Abby on the weight gain. \:D/ I think she weighs a smidgen more than Maddy now (Maddy is 13.36 pounds on last check) and that is just FAB considering all of the reflux issues. Way to go on the sleep too? I'm thinking about dressing her in her usual Bonds Growsuit and then wrapping her; trying to sleep her in her cot at night. :) It's gotten VERY cool around here in the last two nights.

Beck, I am going ok, I moved all of my things out of Michaels house yesterday. Logan has been teething I think, but no teeth have come through yet. He rolled over from his tumy to his back on Friday, did it twice. But now whenever I try to get him to do it again he won't LOL

I think both Maddy & Coco did the same thing with rolling. Did it once or twice and then just wouldn't do it for a few weeks. Both girls (if I remember correctly about Coco) are now hard to keep still....Maddy is still sleeping almost 2 1/2hrs later on her belly in the cot after rolling over. AGAIN.

Babies certainly like doing things on cue for their proud parents do they? *L*

Melly, Abby is doing the same thing! She rolled from belly to back over and over one day and then the next day she did it twice, and now I cant get her to do it again yet! It has been almost a week since!

Good lord...not only is Maddy asleep in her cot (YAY!) but she's been asleep almost 3hrs. Eeeeek..... :shock:

I just want to say that Im going MAD. I can't get Coco to sleep. All she wants to do is suck her fists. Her wrap is absolutely saturated. I don't know how to keep her hands out of her mouth, Im wrapping so tightly. I just want to go to bed now!

Yikes I'm tired :sleeping: ....not used to being up and moving before 6am (past picking Maddy up for a feed from the bassinet beside the bed) but we're off to the meet-up at Southbank today and are going into the city with DH so I can catch up with my sister & niece first.

Must remember the camera today....I'm sure Maddy will cry instead of enjoying her first time in the water (other than the bath). *L*

Got Coco to sleep at 8.30pm (so it took almost an hour and a half) then she woke briefly at 10.30pm, (just put dummy in) then slept until 4am. That was ok, but after that, no hope. she just wants to bite her hands constantly. Im going to post in teething thread now, just want to know if this is normal.
We had on and off sleep from 4-7.30am, but I didn't get much sleep at all during that time, and feel so knackered now!

I hear you regarding the sleep!! I am feeling so tired at that the moment that my poor little eyes are just open. I have Hannah crying her cot and I just feel like this out of my control, I feel sick to the stomach with her crying like this. It’s really not in my makeup to do this... I just want to pick her up and kiss her little face and rock her to sleep.

Woohoo! Abby slept from 11:00pm to 9:00 this morning, with a brief wakeup to get her pacifier at 4:30! I feel very well rested and so is she, which is good because today is her shots! I am going to bring a bottle and feed her right afterward again! That worked like a charm the first time! THanks for the idea Beck!

Rach, I know it is hard, but it wont hurt her to cry in her cot. It actually will help develope her lungs! I hate to leave Abby, but I have to every other night, and sometimes every night! It really is worse on us than it is on them I think!

Beck, how was Maddy in the water? I cant wait to take Abby swimming! Our pool opens in a couple weeks! Did you take lots of pics?

Hey guys, have you checked out THIS page about sleep training / controlled crying? It's written by the Australian Association for Infant Mental Health and provides fact on what we know about the effects of crying in infants. Even a small amount can be distressing for them. We are so attentive to their needs during the day, to me, it's the same at night - it must be confusing to them to have their needs attended to during the day, but at night when it's lonlier and scarier, there is less attentiveness. It is not recommended to do controlled crying under 6 months, and if it's breaking your heart, that's because you are fighting your body's natural instincts to respond. If you were curled up on the sofa all nice and cosy with your partner, would you then feel good if he kept avoiding eye contact and speech and taking you to your bedroom and walking out? I am not attacking anyone here but just trying to paint the picture - imagine if you were in the place of your month's old baby who does not yet have the power of language.

Read Pinky McKay's books, '100 Ways to Calm the Crying' (which goes into detail about crying as well as tips for soothing babies and 'Parenting by Heart.' Her new sleep book is out in July, 'Sleeping Like a Baby.'

According to a recent study, around 50% of mothers tried controlled crying, only something like 7% found it effective in the short term. Many mothers have told me they do it as they don't know what else to do, or need to feel in control of the situation with some sort of structure - but if you read about your options and back yourselves with information, then you will feel just as in control as to how you can respond.

Yep guys, do what's right for you. But I did do controlled crying with Tilly (full on) and she is fine (7 years old, doesnt' have a go at me for leaving her to cry when she was a bub, and infact can't even remember...go figure). But do what you feel comfortable with. Personally cc is a better option to me than being so tired Im dizzy and therefore dangerous to my children. Each to their own.
Have to tell you my Coco and solids news! Started her last night and the poor child must have been starving!!! She LOVED it (organic rice cereal) and every time I took the spoon away she went beserk, just wanted more! She did not spill a drop- and ate about 4 full teaspoon fulls. Absolutely gorgeous, but I felt guilty as she is obviously so ready!! She seems really happy today, so Im hoping this is what she needed!! Our night was ok, but I think that's because I am now wrapping her then putting her in her sleeping bag so she can't eat her hands!! She woke a couple of times, but it was better than it has been.

Hey ladies...just a quick pop-in. Off to the shops with Mum today...Miss Madeline is asleep in her pram at the moment.

I was really worried about her yesterday because the water was FREEZING :shock: and Maddy has never been in cold water before. She was SO cute....I held her hands and she was standing half-calf deep in the water and splashing around like she was in her jolly jumper. hehe

Not too bad at sleep last night...Maddy went to sleep at 10:30pm and woke at 3am for a feed. Went straight back to sleep until 6:30am.

Yes, I agree to do what is right for you, Rach. It is a personal decision. I find leaving Abby for 20 minutes when nothing, even cuddling, can't console her, is a sure fire way that she will wear herself out and get the sleep she needs. Babies get fussy if overtired, and when Abby is like that, if I hold her, she will fuss in my arms instead of in her cot, and then it will actually take her longer to fall asleep. It really is different for every baby I'm sure. I did hear it would help their lungs, but of that is a old wives tale, sorry!

MEg, yay on happy Coco and the cereal! Abby saw the specialist Tuesday and is having abby have cereal in her bottles. It seems to have helped the spit up a bit, but its main purpose is to help her keep down enough to keep her medicine down. I think that part is working!

Abby had her shots today and was sooo brave! She cried only durring them, and as soon as they were done, she was all better! She wasnt fussy the rest of the night. She actually smiled and played heaps! Now she is sleeping so sweetly, I feel so lucky, I thought today was going to be rough! The doc is having her try solids starting in 1.5 weeks! Oatmeal first, since she is already having rice in her milk, and more might constipate her. Then it is veggies in another couple weeks when she is right around 5 months. I asked about food alergies, and she said 5 months is a good age to start her on solids.

She is now 23.75 inches long and 13 pounds 4 oz! Biggie girl!

Tonight I'm having some girls over and we are making sushi! We are only using cooked fish, smoked salmon, crab, shrimp. It will be sooo yummy!

Had a FABULOUS night friday night, she slept through, but then last night crap!! I know the neighbours woke her at 3am, but not sure why she woke at midnight. Just a nightmare.
She's still loving her solids, but her poos are really sticky. Im using an organic brand as well. Im going ot give her a little prune juice today. O:)

Hope you are all having a great weekend. Im so glad April is almost over. Its my busiest month of the year, every damn year and then May comes around and I never have anything in May lol! The last birthday party for the month was today! One more friends birthday tomorrow and then were all done!

Jasmine is going very well. The teeth havent bothered her still, except when she bit her thumb. Omg her thumb was so red, like she bit it right in the corner where the nail joins the skin? But other than that, just everything goes in her mouth. The moment you touch her hands with anything, she grabs it and BAM! straight into the mouth. She just loves to chew on things, understandably! She is still sleeping on average around 11 hours per night which is just so fabulous and she only ever cries when I take her out of the bath! She just gets so excited when its bath time, and I cant bath her in anything but the big bath now because she makes too many splashes and it makes the slate slippery! But if I leave her in for 20 mins, then she doesnt cry. But if its cold and I think a quick bath is necessary, then she has a tanty! She wakes me up in the morning with her 'singing' and goes to sleep the same way. Too cute.
I totally love how when you carry her, she hangs on so tight now. And anyone that makes eye contact with her when we are out, gets the HUGEST smile. And I mean anyone! Its very cute, except people then feel the need to talk to me and ask me questions about Jasmine :rolleyes: and well lets face it, Im not the friendliest person even on the best of days when it comes to strangers, especially nosy ones LOL but Im getting better!!!

Jasmine sounds so grown up having teeth!! Tilly had teeth by 4 months, but Coco's dont' seem to want to break through. But like Jasmine EVERYTHING is going in her mouth, absolutely everything. She's a delight too, and I get very worried when she cries as it's been so rare (hope it continues that way)!! The poor baby is having alot of poo trouble at the moment. I think it must be solids, they're very sticky and really upsetting her. Has anyone started solids?
Tim starts his new job tomorrow!! He's nervous but very excited! Im excited too, but Im also quite nervous. i am sooo used to having him here, that it's going to be really strange having Coco all on my own. I don't think I've taken her to school in months, but now I'll have to take her morning and afternoon. I will also have to bath her on my own now, so it will be into the big bath. Tim has been filling the small bath (i can't lift it) and she sits in it and loves it. It will almost be like starting again with a newborn!!

Hey ladies...I could have sworn I posted this morning but it seems to have disappeared? ](*,)

Our poor little tike has another cold/flu. She can't seem to win with that regard. We dropped past the chemist on Friday afternoon to see if we could get something to clear up her phlegm and also for this rash on her chest. They told me to take her to the GP before they would feel comfortable with giving us Demazin or a similiar med. As her last cold/flu turned into bronchitis, we took her first thing on Saturday morning.

Her chest is clear but there is a lot of phlegm at night and she gags/chokes on this when lying in her bassinet. The GP looked a bit taken aback by my description but told me that he would normally suggest just some honey as a natural option; but because she is choking to get some Demazin. Aside from which, the antihistemine in the Demazin will also help with her rash on her chest apparently. What started off as a little scratch from her bath seat; someone has touched her with germy hands (could have been literally ANYONE) and she now has a charming scaley fungal infection on her chest. We're using an ointment but the GP wants us back on both accounts on Tuesday. If it isn't clearing up he'll prescribe something a little stronger.

I struggled with feeling like a terrible Mommy for allowing the rash to exist for the better part of a week. I honestly thought it was just a little scab because of the scratch from the bath seat.

Will do personals in the morning...I'm tired and just longing for a great night sleep and a healthy little girl. I feel so badly for her and with the teething (which the GP also confirmed even though the teeth haven't cut through yet) she is not her usual happy self.

yes Meg, we tried some rice cereal with a spoon yesterday to see if Abby was ready and my little piggy wanted more and more! It was so cute! She was chewing and everything! The look on her face was priceless! She didnt spit any of it out at all!

Kate Jasmine sounds like such a doll baby smiling at everyone with her teeth! lol! how cute!

Thinking of getting Abby's ears pierced. What do you all think? I know we are going to do itm, and I think the younger the better because she wil be used to them and not tug at them. I started a discussion in the baby and toddler forum if you want to take a look!

Hey Bec...just a thought...it's odd that your gp would even mention honey for a 4 month old 'cos honey can contain botulinum toxins (at a level adults can handle, but infants can't) - it is recommended that babies don't go near honey until they are 1 (to avoid contracting botulism). I know honey used to be given to babies for all kinds of reasons... but the risks are pretty nasty... Not meaning to scare you or anything...just food for thought!

Thanks for that Jules. I guess he mentioned it as it is a traditional/natural type of treatment that has been used succesfully in the past before allergies even became an issue. Not that I'm suggesting the latest reports/tests aren't accurate, just that honey was used ALOT back in our parents generation. I know both my brothers (the twinnies) had their dummies dipped in honey from time to time.

I haven't used honey as I felt her cold/flu was significant enough to be in need of whatever medication I could give her. If there was no phelgm and choking I probably would look for a natural treatment. Not honey though because I am truly trying to avoid giving her anything food wise until she is 6 months old.

Beck,that's a bummer about poor Maddy's cold. I hope she gets better soon. It is heartbreaking, but whatever you do, don't feel like a bad mum, how were you to know the scab would turn into anything different. I certainly wouldn't have known.
At least with her being sick so often (and I know there's not much consolation) she might have a decent immunity building up. It's no fun though, and I just hope she is better really soon. Did you sleep well last night?

Abby has had the worst poos! I think it is either the medicine or the rice cereal, but it is sticky and stinky! Tonight she had to go straight from the changing table to the tub, and the jumperoo had to go straight to the wash! Poor thing, she was a mess! It happens like that about every other day and I havent started any fruits or veggies yet! Scarey!

Awe Coco is over 5 months now! Wow time is flying! Happy 5 month birthday, baby girl!

Maddy's poos have changed lately in the last four days (instead of pooing every 2nd nappy, she now poos 1 or 2 every two days) and it's becoming more solid and less runny liquid-like if that makes sense?

The GP also confirmed he thinks she is indeed teething so perhaps it can be attributed to that.

Is maddy on solids?

Abby's are 1 every one or two days too, and those nappies are loaded!

Nope her diet has not changed - still just booby-fed. My diet hasn't changed significantly either.

My MIL just called....she's coming back here for a few days on her way to visit her sister in Christchurch! YAYYYYY!!!!! I can clean up (& threaten my DH with dismemberment if he messes up the house) and it won't get messy as my BIL left for the Sudan yesterday. He won't be back until December!

Hi girls,

Ivy and Noah are good, growing well and starting to move more, I think getting out of that newborn stage. No sign of rolling over yet but starting to get stronger in tummy time and the smiles, laughs and conversations have well and truly started up.

Noah is a big boy, weighing 6.8kgs and Ivy is 5.2kgs.

We are weaning Noah off the thickened formua now because the ECHN thinks that is what has caused his massive weight gain.

Ivy has late onset reflux and projectile vomiting, which is not so nice but have been there done that with two others so know the drill. Yesterday, though there was some blood in the vomit, so a bit scary. Have started zantac today and for the first time in weeks, she has slept more than 20 minutes in the day.

As for me, I'm feeling a bit isolated and stuck in the house, worried that I'm heading down that PND path again but hoping not. There is just so much going on, I think and am feeling overwhelmed.
My Dad died in March and left a stipulation in his will that if my sister wanted to see any of his estate she had to get clean and get her kids back. For those of you who don't know my saga, my sister is a drug addict and I foster her boys, they have lived with us for the last five years and we have permanent custody of them until they are 18. AJ is turning ten and Mal is 8 but he is developmentally delayed because of all the crap she pumped into herself when she was pg.
Anyhow, she has had nothing to do with the boys for the last three years, October 2003 was her last access visit, and she didn't turn up.
Now because she wants the money she has come back into our lives through my evil stepmother, who is supporting her. Evil Stepmother (ESM)
professed to hating my sister six months ago and my psycho sister reciprocated those feelings right back at her. ESM said that my sister had caused my dads cancer.
To cut a long story short, on top of dealing with my dad's death, two premmie babies and five other kids, I now have to deal with the interfering ESM and my sister, who the last time I spoke with her told me she was going to kill my kids and my husband, so I knew what it was like to be without my family because she felt I had stolen her children from her. (I didn't, she abandoned them one weekend, after coming into some money). It doesn't matter what I do or say, ESM can't see that my sister only wants my dad's money and is using her AND that the one's that are going to suffer MOST out of all of this, are the boys.
So that's me, feeling very lost in all of this bull****. Thank god school holidays are over tomorrow!

Beck omg poor Maddy! Seriously you are NOT a bad mother! Omg you are a fantastic mother! I would never have known that could even happen! So you have just taught me something! I hope Maddy gets better soon. All this weird weather probably isnt helping! I would just limit her contact with others until she shakes the cold completely, maybe keep her home as much as possible? I dont know what else to suggest, wish I could be helpful! Hugs to you both! Feel free to vent here anytime!
Also just to add, looking back now, Jasmine had some runny poo's before her teeth came through, so I think thats a big sign!

Sarajo I read your other post in the other section. And the responses.... I was going to comment but I thought I would just reply to you here. Personally, I wasnt allowed to get mine done until I was 13. I'll probably do the same with Jasmine, mainly because I dont wear them much (only when I go out) and I just had years worth of problems when I got them done. That said though, I dont see anything wrong with it. Everyone has a right to decide what they want for their baby. I asked my friends when they got their babies done, cos I didnt remember. D had M done when she asked for them. A had T done at 6 weeks, and never had a problem. So really each to their own. Its not like your having her earlobes cut off or anything :cryinglaugh:

Meg! YAY for Coco loving her solids. Im going to hold out with Jasmine for as long as I can. She is FF anyway and seems quite happy as is. She still does that pushing thing with her tongue anyway so I dont think she is ready. She watches me eat, but I think she is just fascinated with how I make it vanish LOL! How was Tims first day??

Tiggy! Great to see you here. WOW that is a big difference between your little ones isnt it? Still with Ivy having reflux that wont help. Poor little thing. I dont know much about it, only from what Ive read with Sarajo going through it with Abby, but is late onset the same?
Omg :hugs: I did not know you went through all of that. And are actually going through that right now. You poor thing. What a superwoman you are. You are inspirational! YEY Coco is 5 months. Just can't BELIEVE how time has flown. I can still picture myself sitting here typing, whilst pregnant!! Now we've all got real little personalities!! How amazing is that!
Went to the Doc's for blood test for Coco, and he said her poo etc is normal when starting solids. he said not to stop. I just have to make sure her fluid intake is as much as usual to ensure she doesn't get constipated.
Tim had agood day, but he's gone to uni tonight, so i won't hear all the details until tomorrow morning. So nice to have him back at work!! Tilly back at school tomorrow, I won't know what's hit me!
