Wow Amy, if I had to feed 3 times a night I would be a wreck! haha I feel tired just having to tuck Maya back in a couple of times a night. I almost tuck her in with my eyes closed these days.

As for the rolling she will get there just give her plenty of floor time, Maya loves laying and rolling around. She is propping herself up on one arm now, so next step is sitting up on her own, that will be great for my back!;)

Storm-only one good thing about the needles this time is there is only two. Hope it goes okay.

Linz - once again from myself, sorry about your loss:hugs: Hope to hear from you soon in here.

Ah, girls, I suppose I am used to getting up. Natalie has only slept through the night a handful of times in her life, and when she did I got up to check on her anyway, LOL. She is changing her pattern so that the first wake-up is before I go to bed, at around 9:30, so that makes only two wake-ups in the night - around 1:30 and sometime between 4-5am. I'm hoping she'll grow out of it, but if not I'll deal with it when it becomes a bigger issue - when I have to go back to work and actually function :lol:
I haven't had Natalie weighed for weeks and weeks. We'll go to the MCHN for her 6 month check and needles this time instead of to the GP.

Wow Amy, I don't know how you do it with a smile still. LOL. I fall to pieces when I have to get up through the night. Admittedly, Angels cot is right beside our bed with the side off, so I just have to move my hand, she has been really unsettled at night since she got sick & now I think I've sooked her up that much that most nights she has to be holding my finger ah you'd think I'd know better, but honestly I love it. I am trying to get her back into self settling to sleep, she did twice yesterday, but by the arvo she demanded to be cuddled to sleep. I thought that was so cute. This morning she has gone off to sleep by herself again.
Looks like we're going to be bothered by colds again, Zaccie has picked one up off the same people again, gggrrrrr, but not going to go there.

Yes, the dryer here is the same - I was hoping to have a dry day to peg out Natalie's fleece wraps and get some fresh air into them... Ah well.
How cute that Angel holds your finger while she sleeps. It would probably save me some hassle to keep Natalie in our room, but I know I just wouldn't be able to sleep with her there... I'm a weirdo!

It's been well over a week since I've hung washing out. It's so much easier using the dryer, but I find it all gets backed up, the washing machine washes faster than the dryer dries LOL yikes, I can only imagine what my electricity bill is gonna look like.

Storm - I'm so glad to hear someone else has the cot in their room still, do you get funny looks when you tell people? I do, it annoys me as Maya is our first and neither of us are ready for her to go in her own room yet. And now winter is here we have a little heater going in our room for 10 minutes every hour (on a timer) so it is the warmest room in the house at night.
How annoying about another cold:(

Linz - Your nights and mornings sound like mine, Maya has a stir in the night and re tucking her or the dummy sends her right off again. She has stopped going back to sleep after her first bottle in the morning though as it is around 9.30am, so we both get up and start the day. She still has around 3 day sleeps which last for an hour or maybe more (if I'm lucky).

As for laundry, my living room looks like a laundrymat, my DP won't let me use the dryer all the time so I use it only for towels and the rest hangs in the living room where the heater is.

Out of interest, what is everyones favorite toy at the moment (or toys)? Thought it might be interesting to know now they are at the 6mth mark and very alert.:)

Maya loves her little magnetic board that stands only a foot high, I got the leapfrog farm magnet and she will play with that for ages, when you press the animals it sings and talks and you can change the animals on there (this is what has helped her to sit up for long periods of time). She also loves her set of balls where each one does something different.

Oooh, I hear you on the power bill - what with heaters, dryer and all... It's going to be a ripper.
Washing, like the rest of the housework, is just a never-ending task. You get one lot finished and there's the next lot ready to start over again. Honestly, it can get so depressing. I must admit though, I do enjoy folding washing - I find it quite therapeutic. BUT that's the only housework I actually enjoy ;)
Ah, Chantal, who cares what people think about Maya's sleeping arrangements? It makes so much sense to have your baby in your room. I wish I could do it. Part of me wishes Natalie would co-sleep even. Not to be.
Wow, the farm magnets sound like lots of fun... I reckon I get almost as much enjoyment out of kids toys as kids do :p
Natalie's favourites are cloth books, particularly her crinkly one (we have some adorable photos of her lying on the floor 'reading'), her musical bear, and her Mirror Beethoven (just a funky mirror that plays Fur Elise) until it ran out of batteries. Reminds me I must get some more ;)

Agh, we had a crap night last night - Natalie woke an extra time. I think I will have to start doing things differently. Its a bit depressing :(

hi ya guys, i know it has been ages since i have been on here, prob forgotten me.. oh well,,,
dylan is now nearly 6mnths (on thursday) and we have our check up with the nurse on thursday as well, will prob do imusiations next week as he is still getting over a cold and suspected broconilitis.
we have been having solids for about a mnth now, loves pumpkin, brocoli doesnt mind farex, carot and pear, but hates apple... and are doing 2 feeds a day...
we try to have 3 naps a day, but doesnt always work...
and night sleeps are still horrible, they were getting ok, then he got sick, now we are up multible times at night,
currently his cot is still in our room, but once he is better i will move him to the nursery, in hope that it will stop him listening for us in bed, and help him settle him self, rather than me doing it..
think that is about it..

We are planning on starting solids next week - Natalie turns 6 months on wednesday so we thought we'd celebrate, LOL. Bummer about the night waking. I'm no stranger to it, as you might have read in previous posts. Hang in there.
I'm lucky if Natalie has three sleeps a day, but we do go out a lot as I'd go balmy at home all day, so I think that disrupts her a bit.
Are you still at home with Dylan, or are you working some?
Girls, wish me luck - I'm going back into work tomorrow to talk about my return. I didn't think I'd go back, but I'm not certain... I'm really going to play it by ear tomorrow. I'm going to see how flexible they are and try my luck at maybe a jobshare type of arrangement. If they can't do what I want, then I'll leave, lol. It's nice - sort of feels like I have nothing to lose. It'll be different though if and when I have to look for a new job - ah, I'll enjoy the lack of stress while I can :lol:

Sorry to hear your nights are getting worse, have you tried to just give her a dummy etc to see if she will go back to sleep or does she really kick up a stink to have a feed? I find putting my hand on Mayas chest or on her forehead calms her back to sleep.

em - sorry to hear your little boy has a cold, not fun and especially when it disrupts their needles, I like to get these sort of things over and done with, horrible things.

Well Maya is loving banana and also tried chicken and sweetcorn which she liked as well, I mixed some pumpkin with it as she won't have that by itself.

Chantal, I wish she would take a dummy. She used to and it was great, then before she turned 3 months she decided, 'nope. Don't want that anymore' and hasn't been interested since - she just sort of chews on it and spits it out, LOL. My dad and my SIL have tried it too, so its not just me.
If I try to settle her other ways she gets really cross and cries her little heart out (I'm sure its a tanty though, but its still distressing). This might be because she can smell me, but it doesn't matter because DH settling her through the night isn't an option - he's a classic winger if his sleep is disrupted, and I'd rather wake every two hours than put up with him that way :rolleyes:
I think once she is a bit bigger and eating more during the day, I'll make a concerted effort to stop the night feeding. I just know what a big commitment it is going to be and I don't think I'm quite ready for it just yet ;)
Sounds like Maya is really enjoying her food! How many meals a day is she having? What meal did you start her with (ie was her first solid meal breakfast, lunch or dinner?)

Maya is having 2 meals at the moment. I started her off with Farex baby rice mixed with formula milk. I would give this to her about an hour before she was due for her next bottle around 4-5pm. Always when she seemed the most alert.

I always serve her food warm or she won't eat it, even her pear and banana gets a zap in the microwave.

I agree you may have more luck with less night wakes once she starts some solids so I don't blame you for holding off for now, I would too.

I say do whatever you are happy with Amy. My sister still gets up sometimes to her 13mnth old and even her 3 year old twins. I say if you're ok with it then it's the best choice. I am very lucky on the sleeping front, these days Issy generally sleeps from 9pmish til 9amish. I count my blessings for that all the time.
We had needles today, she screamed her little heart out but as soon as I picked her up she was chatting and smiling away. Has had temps this evening though, and it's so hard cos it's freezing so I want her warm but not overheated, you know!
We are going to start solids again soon too.

Sorry I'm such a slacker, I tend to lurk a lot so I keep up to date on how everyone's going.
Noah's doing great! As huge as ever. He was just under 9kg, and was 72cm long at his check up last week.
He's going great guns with the solids, he's had tonns of stuff. He had spag bol last night and woofed it down!
I have to try and get him to eat more of the farax though, for the iron content.
His sleeping is still sucky and he ends up in bed with us most nights, mainly because I'm lazy and it's too cold to be standing around trying to settle him.
The nurse last week told me that if he wakes from a nap at under one hour, I have to try and re-settle him. Musch easier said than done let me tell you! Sometimes it works others not so much! I'm trying to do a bit of a routine for nap times so he knows it's time for sleep.

Good to hear from you, Lauren. Glad Noah is doing well. I know what you mean about re-settling - I tried it a few times and it would take just ages. These days if Natalie only has a 40min sleep, I just try to fit an extra sleep in that day. But hey, we are by no means the sleep experts in this household ;)
It is so jolly cold atm, hey. I'm loving my fluffy dressing gown - it's not going to win any fashion awards, but it's lovely and warm (particularly for those nighttime room service calls, LOL)

I haven't been able to give maya any food that has some texture, she loves her pureed food. I might try some banana mashed tomorrow as she loves the Heinz banana puree. Fresh is best;) but I'm not going to stress about it at this stage.

we managed to get a decent sleep last night from 8 till 1.45 then to 5 so that was pretty good really... he had his check up at the nurse yesterday and weight 7.96kg length 67.5 so we are still sitting on the 50th percentile...

It was a bought one. I'm such a nerd, if I give him something bought I try to buy the organic varieties. So it was organic jarred baby spaghetti bol! lol
I made a huge batch of spag bol yesterday though and froze lots of the sauce in ice cube trays, so hopefully he likes mine as much as the jarred type!

Wow Linz! That sounds like a great routine! I'm trying to be more strict with Noah's.

lol at the moment this is such a pipe dream! Noah wakes up from a nap at 30 mins on the dot! And on the (extremely) odd occasion he sleeps longer it's 45 mins at the very most.

What does everyone else's routines resemble?
Do everyonbe else's babes put themselves to sleep, or am I not alone in the rocking to sleep department?

Ah, I forgot to report on the work thing - thanks for asking, girls. Well, it went as positively as it could've. As a lot of my work involved reception and customer service, they really want someone 9-5, which I understand. So, I resigned. However, they said that they would give me some casual work at the same rate of pay, but working in production any time I should feel I want some easy money. I thought that was very generous of them and I might take them up on it before we go on holiday in September - get some pocket money! I can't really leave Natalie for a whole day atm tho, as she won't take a bottle and hasn't started solids quite yet... Its a bit of an unknown too - I don't know what she'll think of food. Anyway, it's good to know that there's some work there if I should need it. And I think they'll give me a great reference for when I look for a 'real' job :p
Linz, that routine looks great - I can't believe Laila has such great naps - what a little angel :) And Lauren, that looks good too - IKWYM about routines getting stuffed up because a little one decides to wake up early :rolleyes: It can be frustrating, hey.
Our day sort of looks like this:
7am - Wake, Bfeed
Play
9am - Settle & sleep
10-11am - Wake, Bfeed
Play or go out (usually go out)
2(ish)pm - Settle & sleep
3-4pm - Wake, Bfeed
Play/go for walk (maybe quick nap in stroller if I'm lucky)
6pm - Bfeed
6:30pm - Bath & goodnight cuddles with Daddy
7pm - Bed (Settled by Daddy, again if I'm lucky, LOL)
9:30-10pm - Bfeed, sleep
1:30-2am - Bfeed, sleep
4-5am - Bfeed, sleep

Course, sometimes she sleeps for a couple of hours in the day (like this morning - wow!), or wakes a bit earlier or a bit later and everything moves around. Some days I just go by how tired she seems or if she's been up for two hours I think, 'right, miss, bedtime for you.'

Lauren, sometimes when we're out Natalie is rocked to sleep, like when we go to church or when she has a sleep at my parents' place. At home, she sometimes settles herself, but more often we pat her to sleep. She's still wrapped too. The other night when she woke an extra time it was because she'd unwrapped herself :rolleyes:

Chantal, yes, that's Natalie's hair :) She's always had lots of hair. I put a clip in it these days to keep it out of her eyes - Dave wanted to cut her fringe but I said, 'NO WAY'. I'm not ready to cut my baby's hair yet.
How was your first night on the work phone?
Our parents group is still meeting. We have 9 babies and we are blessed to have a mum who is truly gifted at administration ;) We all suggest places to go each week, usually a park or sometimes a cafe, and she draws up a 6-week 'roster', and we take it in turns to provide a simple morning tea. We have someone's house as a wet-weather contingency plan. I'm really enjoying our mornings together these days. It took a while, but we are gradually getting more comfortable with each other.
Is there are park where you could all meet that has shelter in case of rain? I know, it's getting a bit chilly for being outdoors...

Liz, sounds like you had a much better night - 8 til 1:45 is a lovely stretch of sleep. Its a shame you weren't asleep yourself to make the most of it, LOL. But it must have been nice to have the evening to yourself.

Work phone went fine last night BUT had to turn it on again at 0530 today and all of a sudden it was ringing like crazy:doh: !! I bought Maya into bed with me as I was getting phone call after phone call asking for Personal Carers to fill shifts and not having any Carers left to fill them:wall: Didn't even have a chance to get her a bottle or change her nappy, then when I did she had fallen back to sleep. By 7am the phone died down, thank goodness.

Oh well the money is worth it.

Amy - I wouldn't want to cut her hair either!MEN!!:rolleyes: I wish Maya's would grow. You seem to be comfortable with the decision regarding your job, its great they have offered you work anytime you need it though, thats great!Now you can relax and not stress about it all.

Gee, you guys have me thinking if I even HAVE a routine for Maya, but then I have never written it down just let the day take its course, but here goes.....

6am Maya wakes and I put her in bed with me
6-9.30am sleep and wake up
BOTTLE
9.30 to around 12 is play, always consists of watching her learning DVD's
12pm some sort of solid such as fruit or a cereal fruit
12.30-1.30 Nap
around 2pm BOTTLE
Play
Around 4 to 5pm Solids again usually a meat and veg or just veg
BOTTLE
Around 7ish Nap
Play till her next BOTTLE around 9.30pm
Bath to help get prepared for sleep
settle time
by 10.30pm I want her in bed (have not been successful getting her to bed any earlier)

Thats a pretty rough guide as each day can be different, especially if we go out for a few hours.

Lotusflower- I am just wondering how you prepare the yogurt and Farex as I just bought some yogurt for the first time and think the farex in it is a good idea.

My god you guys have been busy. Didn't realise it had been that long since I last go on.
Charly and I are doing well, she has started enjoying solids, realised she doesn't like to eat as soon as she gets up. If I wait half hour to hour she eats without any drama I give her solid twice a day now, morning and afternoon. Was able to give her banana this morning without have to make sure all the lump where out.

She is really starting to make different sounds now, when shopping this morning very chatty lots of da da da, for the first time, when she is upset she says mum.

Tried the other night to let her cry herself to sleep in her cot, but not successful. Sitting beside her was making her worse, so ended using the boob after 30 mins of trying. She does settle herself in the middle of the night after a few minutes, if she goes for more them 5 minutes I go in.

Snacks I with you on the one or two feeds a night, usually between 2 and 5 and if it is close to midnight she will have a 5 o'clock feed. Think it is more of a comfort thing sometimes, then other times she feed so fast diffently hungry.

Favourite toy at the moment would be the remotes if she got her hand on them, but books or paper.

Good luck with the jobs, I will be going back in October for 2 days a week, not really looking forward to leaving her for a whole day. At least she will be with Granma and I can call.

Oh I just make up the farax as normal (with boob juice, or water if I'm feeling lazy) and whack in half a tub of the baby yoghurt. Noah goes a tad feral for the yoghurt but I noticed if he has too much he seems to get a little constipated. He'd still rather the plain yoghurt but will tolerate the mix. Which yoghurt did you get Maya? Noah's had both the vanilla and banana Vaalia

I got her the Vaalia Banana. Just tried a tub with her before, either I was too eager to see what she would think (not hungry enough) or she just doesn't like it. She was a mess though:lol:

Is vaalia the best yoghurt for babies? How do you choose what to buy when there's so much out there?!

I only saw two brands and Vaalia was the only Banana one and I thought well since she likes banana in the Heinz jars I would get her this one. Oh well, I can't blame her for not getting into it straight away as I can't heat this one up, she needs to get used to unheated food or I will be stuck when we are out and about. It would be nice to not have to heat up everything, not always convenient.

Vaalia make a special baby yoghurt Amy. So do Heinz I think? I don't know but there's always 2 brands in the fridge at the supermarket.
You're not supposed to give normal yoghurt til about 8 months I think but baby yoghurt's specially formulated to be easy on tiny tums.

Ah, that's good info, thanks Lauren. This is all very new to me :)

On the yogurt I haven't tried but the ladies in my mothers group have suggested a vanila one that starts with J, haven't been shopping to look for it yet. They say it is better than other yogurt.

Still going through the vege/fruit range before I start thinking about adding meat or yogurt (I'm not a yogurt fan myself). But want be to long before meat gets added.

Solids are now having an affect on her poo, you can tell now by the look and noise when she is going lol. Poor thing looks a little puzzled and the grunting, but not constipated yet, making sure she has water to help.

I am amazed the new sounds she is making every day. Rang DH at work yesterday because she was chatting so much he was shocked he could hear her going da da amongest other sounds.

Maya has been doing some whoppers, but they are more solid too. I was going to post a question on here about them as I can't see how such a little bubba can make so much poo!!!but it seems to be the case with some of you guys too.

I gave her some of the jar potato, beef and 'cant remember the other ingredient' and those poos smelt disgusting so I'm not giving that to her anytime soon....

Glad to hear you had some proper sleep Amy. I've been able to sleep straight through the last two nights, Maya has been able to resettle herself because I haven't heard her.:)

That's great that Laila is sitting even for a couple of minutes, Linz. Natalie will sit for a matter of seconds only - she is pretty good with her balance backwards and forwards, but often topples to either side.

HURRAH!!! Another good night! Natalie went to bed at 7pm, woke at 10:45, then 1:30 (at this point I was thinking, 'Oh cr@p', but then slept til 7am! WooHOOOO! (Course I feel more tired than ever today after all that sleep, LOL)

Snacks I'm with you,Charly is still sleeping but had a down at 9ish wake at 2 then at 5 so hoping she will sleep till 9.30.

Lauren, haven't had that yet but has been close a few times. Charly has been a going a 3 to 4 times a day the last few days, just small amount each time. At least they are easier to clean up, now I will have a really messy one today.

Charly has been sitting up for the last monthish, and sits up most of the time I still put a boomarang pillow behind her just in case. Goes from sitting to laying on her belly and sometimes manages to go to her back from belly (very rare). She is starting to left her bum and move her legs when she is on her belly. Think it helps that mothers group has a few a month older and she watches them.

It is going so quickly seems like there is something new every couple of days, she is just starting to hit every thing with her hands to see what sound they make.

Have any of you had a day away from your baby. I go to the gym on Saturday morning but would like to out with just me or have the house to myself for a couple of hours but DH doesn't seem to understand that I need me time. Which seems strange to me as he has always known that if we have to many thing going on, then I need some time by myself to energise myself even if it is just going somewhere quite with a book. Just realised that is what I was use this forum for, and since I haven't been on for a while it been building up so I feel it. Still need to talk to DH now I am thinking a little clearer I my be able to express it better.
