Babies Born December 2006 #3

Maya has been sitting up for a while now too. She crawled over 3 meters yesterday and we got it on video!!:clap: She still puts her hands in front then drags her legs forward, so her front is getting a lot of strength, she just needs to work out if she put her knees up it will be easier.

Charlysmum - I would love an afternoon for myself once a week. My DP took Maya to her grandparents house yesterday for a couple of hours and I got the vacuuming, mopping and a load of washing done. It felt great to not have to worry and check on Maya every 5 minutes.

Is anyone a bit funny having their bubs in someone else's car without you driving? I'm dreading the the moment my PIL say they will pick Maya up, am I being paranoid?? I would never forgive myself if an accident happened and I wasn't there.

Gosh, I've been so busy again. I'm not much of a member huh?
Angel has a cold again, SO hoping it's just a cold & nothing sinister like last time.
Umm, he he haven't read back much, but somebody did ask about rocking to sleep?:redface: I do it 99.9% the other times she shocks me & self settles but then again I have really smothered her cos she has been so sick since she was born .

I haven't left Natalie for a day yet, but for a few hours a couple of times so that Dave and I could go out. Also, mum looked after her when I went in to work the other day. I don't feel desperate for time to myself just yet, though I probably should for her sake. She's a bit of a mummy's girl at the moment. I hope you can sort something out with your DH - you need to look after yourself too.
Wow, Chantal - Maya's crawling already?! Must admit, I don't think Natalie's been in someone else's car without me there, LOL. I don't know how I'd be about it... I miss her dreadfully when she's not with me, but I think I'd feel the same about any accident that might happen if I was there or not. I just don't want to think about it at all ;)
Ah, Jo, its always great to hear from you. Sorry Angel has another cold :( Hopefully it goes away quickly. Mate, if Angel sleeps well, I don't think it'd matter how you help her get there ;)

Congratulations of the crawling Maya, may use your advice and get DH to take her to the park or something in the afternoon. Think he will freak out and alone with his DD, not that he will say that.

I agree with doesn't matter how they get to sleep as long as they get some.

Charly woke up yesterday with a runny nose, was hoping that is all it is but so upset in the afternoon and last night. Tried giving her to DH to put to sleep when she woke at 12.30 (had woken up every hour since I put her in bed) but the screams, he gives in an let her play, because he cannot stand her being upset. So I took over and she got really upset, because I was trying not to feed her to sleep. Gave her some panadol, to cover teeth, sore throat etc and boob to get the taste out of ther month but was not letting go once she had it. Told her I didn't want her waking up for at least 5 hours she woke up after 6 for a feed and back to sleep:dance: should try that more often.

I'm trying to find another way for her to sleep because I have to go back to work in a few months, and don't want my mum to have to work out her sleep during the day. Maybe it will work it's out herself once the crawling starts, more activity.

Will it is a rainy day her and Charly has decide to sleepin yahoo. So should check what is happen it the rest of the forum while I have the chance.

maya, i agree, you need some 'me time' but like me dont do the house hold chores during your me time, i know it is easier to get them done then, but then you havent had the 'me time' and congrates on the crawling

snacks, i have only left dylan for a few hours, and the only person who has driven other then me and dh, is the BIL and FIL, when we went to sydney but both times i was also in the car..

charly i hope the runny nose goes away it really not fun is it.. dh's dont understand the no play at night do they..

well we have moved the cot into the nursery, without too much trouble, he has settled into the new room. and sleeping is getting a little better, now that he is getting over his chest cold will try to faze night time feeds out, it going to be hard but worth it..

Liz, glad Dylan is getting better and his sleeping in improving. I'm in that awkward position of wondering which feeds to stop at night and how. I actually rang Tressillian's helpline on Saturday afternoon. I thought it'd be too much to cut out all the feeds, so wanted their opinion on where to start.
They were very understanding - it isn't unusual for 6mo's to wake. Though, she agreed that Natalie should be able to go at least 4 hours between feeds, as this is what she does during the day (and she's growing ok). So, we decided to tackle the 9-9:30pm feed first, which is why Dave went and settled her on Saturday night. She went back to sleep and woke an hour later, and both nights since she has woken at 10:30ish for the first feed - so that's a plus ;)
However, I'm not holding my breath... Last night she woke at 10:30, then 2:30, and I was hoping she'd go til 7 or just before, but she woke just after 6am. I ummed and ahed about whether to get up for the day, but after I fed her she went back to sleep (oh, thank goodness!) and we got up at 8:30. Its really tricky - I'm just not sure of where to go from here, as I don't have the energy or the patience to try to settle her in other ways in the middle of the night. Lately she has been sleeping better during the day (she sorted that out herself) so I'm hoping she'll sort out her nights by herself too - it'd make it easier for me :)
Anyway, I wish you all the best as you try to work it out. I'm right there with you - it is tough.

Amy - really hope it starts working for you soon, you sound like you really want a nice long 'proper' sleep, hope it comes sooner than later just keep it up and don't give in!

em - I know, I should keep the 'me time' for relaxing and stuff but I actually feel good when I get some cleaning and organising done, I feel quite stressed when my house is dirty or cluttered. I'm starting to get annoyed with my DP as he keeps leaving his clothes in the lounge where the heater is, how hard is it to pick up your clothes and put them in the basket :wall:!!

Storm and Charly - sorry to hear about your bubbies colds:( Poor little Angel, sounds like her immune system needs a boost after having all those bad bouts before.

And with Maya's crawling, I think she has cottoned on so quickly because she loves being on her tummy all the time, shes a real tummy baby, even loves sleeping on her tummy.I try to put her on her back again but she resists my hand and rolls over again.

She's playing with a brochure at the moment, first time I have given her one and shes smashing it on the ground loving it!

Yep paper any paper and they are happy, makes you wonder why buy toys. LOL

IKWYM totally! I am always picking up after DH - when the weather was warmer he would take off his shoes and socks in the lounge room and just leave his dirty socks lying around! After picking up after him so many times, I tried just leaving them there to see if he'd get the message, but all he did was make a little pile of dirty socks, LOL. So frustrating!!

snacks i let it get to the point when there are no clean socks or jocks left and he comes around where are my stuff, and i ask him where he left them, i have done all the washing that was in the washing basket, so i am done for the week,,, it was fun to watch him pick up clothes from all over and put them in the wash... and hang them out..
i want to try to stop the 2-3am feed, so go 7-11-7 but well see what he lets me do


welll we had out 6mnth injections this morning and they werent too bad, a cry once the stuff went in but settled really quickly which was good, we are down for a nap now, hope its a long one...

Thanks Liz. Yeah, I hope you can work out those feeding times - 7, 11, 7 sounds ideal. I hope Dylan works with you on it. Boo about the shots. I'm not looking forward to that! That's next week's activity with Daddy, LOL. I'm a big wuss. Glad he did alright with them tho. Hope he has a lovely sleep for you this afternoon.

he did, slept 12.30-3 but now wont do his afternoon nap, so he will be a little tired munchkin tonight... although i have left him in his cot to pretend to nap..
will get him up for dinner soon enough... then the evening routine starts..

Forgot to report that we went to the MCHN for Natalie's six month check today. She is Little Miss Average - sitting on the 50th centile for weight, height and HC. (7.18kg, 65.5cm). We have to see someone about her eye though - the nurse thinks she may have a lazy eye or something. Natalie flunked the reflection test.
We are starting solids tomorrow morning for breakfast, provided she is in a good mood. She's been such a cranky little thing lately.

congrates, nat on the great 6th mnth check up,, dont worry too much about the lazy eye, i had one as a kid, and stacks of people have them just means glasses or an eye patch to train it for a while...probably...
what is the reflection test, we didnt have a proper appointment at 6mnths just a walk in so there wasnt any tests, just weight, height, and head..
yey about the solids hope it all goes well and that she loves them,,,

dylan, went to bed at 7 last night and slept till 3, not bad, then 5.30 resettle and up at 7(but i think that is the delayed affects of the injections)
hubby put him to bed last night which was great, cause want to start to do a pilates class that starts at 7 so he will need to do it..

Good luck with the solids Amy, Charly puts up a fight sometimes that mouth is not opening no matter what I do, so we have good & bad days. Even after a month we are only on two feeds a day.

Hope Natalie eye is ok, I think Charly has a lazy eye you can notice it when she is tied. My brother had one to fix it he had to wear a patch for a year on the good eye, they did find it till he was a school, so I want to make sure Charly's is corrected before school.

Still have to go for the 6 month check up tried ringing early this week and the phone rang out. Must remember to do it today even though it will be more like a 7 month check up.

Well, our first rice cereal extravaganza went fairly well :) She ate a miniscule amount, but at least she did eat some, LOL. The facial expressions were classic and we got some ripper photos. She gagged more than she swallowed, I think, but hey, she'll get the hang of it :lol:
About the eye, I'm not stressed - the 'eye lady' comes to the local clinic once a month, I think. The MCHN said we probably won't get to see her til Sept or Oct, so I guess its not a matter of great urgency. Liz, they shine a little light between the eyes and they're supposed to see an equal reflection in each eye. She thought Natalie's right (I think right...) eye turns slightly inwards or something? Anyway, like you said, if its lazy they'll give us excersises to do, like covering up one eye and stuff. If its not lazy, then I don't know. I guess we'll find out soon enough...
That sounds like a pretty good night. Did you feed him at 3? Natalie fed at 11pm and 3:30am last night, then was up at 7 this morning. It's better than it has been, so I'll probably keep feeding her if she wakes around 3... I don't know what else to do.
We're in North Rocks, not far from Parramatta. Are you a Sydneysider too?
Charly'smum, that'd be pretty yuk having to wear a patch at school... I'm with you, I'd rather get something like that fixed before school - little kids can be so mean to each other. The window for the checkup is 5-8 months, so you've still got plenty of time :)

snacks, nar not from sydney, but coming up for a holiday end of july for a week, which will be nice.. yep fed him at 3am, so didnt really expect him to wake at 5.30 thats why i just resettle then.. the gagging is hard to watch isnt it.. dylan usually gets tears whilst gagging..

Hi everyone

Well Maya is still Lactose Intolerant. I thought I would try her on some normal S26 formula but she got 'the runs', boy was that fun:doh::rolleyes: So I have to avoid custards and stuff like that, the nurse I spoke to today from the Parents Helpline said small amounts are okay though. Hopefully it will be something she grows out of.

Anyone elses bubs become noisy sirens overnight? Maya is so vocal all of a sudden! making all sorts of loud noises now and loves doing the indian noise with her hand over her mouth, wish I hadn't taught her that now:rolleyes:. She yells out DA DA heaps, today in the supermarket she sounded like a right old looney!! LOL

Aw, poor Dylan! Tears would be tragic. Natalie just looked cross - as usual ;)
Oh dear, poor little lactose-free Maya. Its good to know, I spose. Are you or your DP lactose intollerant, Chantal? Oh, yes, Natalie might be running late with her gross motor, but she's a right chatterbox. She squeals and carries on, says 'mumum' (though I'm not convinced she means me) and atm she's really into sucking her bottom lip and releasing it, making a popping/snapping noise. Its good fun... well, its better than the crying.
BTW, that's a gorgeous photo of Maya - what a cutie :)

Hi, thanks Amy, thats a pic from her professional 6mth photo shoot, so cute in all of them I had to buy the whole pack! Her next one will be at 1yr. I love those sort of photos, just can't do it myself and its something beautiful to look back on.

Noone else is Lactose intolerant in our family except my Mum, who is also gluten intolerant so I hope maya isnt following in her footsteps:redface: I say she will grow out of it by the time she is a couple of years old. I have booked an appointment with our GP so I can find out more info about it.

I know what you mean about the mama sound, Mayas Da Da sound could be mistaken for Dada but my DP doesnt think so, but sometimes he pretends.;)

Hope everyone is sleeping well (your gonna hate me but Maya sleeps right through now, she can finally resettle herself. I hear her stir and wait and then she is off asleep again. Don't ask me why, I just see it as a blessing)

Natalie tried pumpkin today - I know I was supposed to wait a few days to check for allergies, but TBH, she really didn't ingest much of the rice cereal at all... Anyway, she had a b/feed and then half an hour later I gave her a little bit of pumpkin and she gagged away as usual... then THREW UP EVERYWHERE. OMG, I have never seen her spew so much in one go in her life. (It was mostly milk, but there were little orange bits all through it too). Gross.

Snacks, I give Charly solids then wait half hour to BF, since I cannot tell how much she feeds. One of the ladies in my mother group was told by health nurse to do this, so I don't feel bad even though I was already doing it.

Granma feed her yesterday when I was out and she wolfed it down in not time, DH said 'it was gone before he new it, and with a huge spoon'. Guess she loves the apple and I may need a lesson from Granma, although I think Charly like seeing me dance around lol.

Yesterday got the biggest chuckle from her, you could really hear what it will be like as a little girl laughing. Those are the moments I wish I could capture, they make the frustrations so worth it.

I've had a cold this week and it kind of make everything feel worse than it really is, because Charly has one to I haven't go the sleep I would really like to get over it. Make me realise how much my mum did no matter how she felt. I cannot remember her in bed sick when I was growing up.

Charly had a late night last night still sleeping, had a five hour block at first so I got some good sleep. Should be doing the house work but everyone else is a sleep so I might as well do something I enjoy he he.

Oh Amy, I'm so sorry to hear about the chuck, hope it wasn't on carpet. Gosh, the shock you must of got! I would of been the same.

I give Maya her solids inbetween her bottles, it usually works out an hour before her next bottle.

Charlysmum - I'm trying to ward off a cold which is making me feel a bit lethargic, hope you guys get better quick smart! Lovely to hear about her chuckle, I have only got small ones, more like little bursts .

Ah, if I offered Natalie solids before booby she'd FREAK. When she's hungry, she's hungry NOW :lol: And I guess she doesn't understand that solids will make her not feel hungry anymore just yet.
I think I may have made the pumpkin too 'solid', IYKWIM? I should've put some water in there I think... Anyway, I might give it another go tomorrow (cause we were out pretty much all day today except for her afternoon sleep, we didn't have a try today) then, if she still gags like mad I might leave it for a little while.

Charly is still sleeping yeh when to bed a 8.30 woke around 9.15 asleep by 9.30, slept till 5 had feed and still asleep. Hopefully this continues, don't mind the quick naps during the day if as a long night sleep.

Snacks I give Charly her solids before she gets hungry, guess I'm lucky and Charly likes to play for at least an hour before a feed in the morning. But if she is hungry no way is it going to be solids. I would make the pumpkin a little more liquid and keep trying, I stop and started because of the gagging to, but if you stick with it and make it just a little thicker than breast milk at first it will get better. They need to get use to the sensation in their throat and using there tongue diffently, Charly still does it occasionally but only when she gets to much in her mouth. I still puree most things, banana is the only thing I just mash at the moment, taking things slowly, plus I'll talk to the health nurse tomorrow.

Oh, Natalie is a fusspot... When she wakes up she is just lovely long enough to have a little chat and a nappy change... Then all hell breaks loose if she doesn't get booby. I think she really took the feed, play, sleep routine to heart - play, sleep, THEN FEED ME. LOL, she's quite definite in what she wants these days, though there are still those times when she cries just because. I find it difficult in those times - at least when she cries after a sleep I know what its about.
Yeah, I don't know whether to give the pumpkin a miss and try some apple in a couple of days? The pumpkin, even when mashed and mixed with water still seems quite stringy? I bought some pears but they're not quite ripe yet - they're taking aaaaages. Ah, well, she's been living on milk her whole life... a couple of days wait isn't going to bother her I wouldn't think, LOL.

Maya's going for her 6mth check tomorrow too! I forgot to book that in when I had her needles done :doh: Oh well, be good because my DP can come now, its his day off. He likes to go to her 'milestone' appointments.

I don't think Maya will be far off from Charly, be interesting. I just spoke to a girl at the shops today who has a 7mth old too, she was surprised at Mayas size as her boy is 11kg now! I told her Maya was only 5lbs13oz when born and her boy was 10lbs14oz...wow bit of a difference.

How is Charly with tummy time? does she enjoy it?

What is everyone doing with tooth cleaning as thats one of my questions for the doctor tomorrow, I want to know if there is a special toothbrush or some other technique.

Amy - if you feel a bit funny buying the jar food for Natalie there is a range called 'Organic only', Maya loves it and at least you know the vegies are clean of pesticides etc. Maya's favorites are the Apple and Peach and the Pumpkin and sweetcorn.

We have a winner! Apple. No gagging, though she probably only ate about half a teaspoon... But hooray!
Sounds like Charly's doing wonderfully! We're the same - have to do lots of rolling practice here :rolleyes: She's not a fan of tummy time.
Thanks Chantal, I'll keep an eye out for that brand when the time comes... I might try a couple more things at home first - she really eats so little at a time that I don't want to spend the money on a full jar or tin! :p
I have seen teeth cleaning kits... somewhere... I have been thinking of getting one even though Natalie doesn't have teeth yet. They have gum cleaners too, LOL, I think its just so that they get used to you jiggling things around in their mouth. Just a soft-bristled kiddy toothbrush is good, apparently, and no adult toothpaste until they can spit. Hope all goes well at Maya's check tomorrow. I must book Natalie in for her needles... No putting it off any longer :(

Will done with the apple, Charly loves peaches, I get a can with the natural juice and making sure there the there is only peaches and juice (cheaper then the baby food version and no extras).

Haven't thought about the toothbrush yet, still waiting for those teeth. They say a soft cloth or toothbrush.

Tummy time is not Charly's favourite, think if she cannot see me she lasts a bit longer. Just wants mum to pick her up, loves sitting up. I still put a soft cushion behind her think I need to reduce the thickness because when falling backward she doesn't save herself, which she need to start doing. Also once she falls hard for her to go to tummy then back to back with pillow there. Just don't want her to hit her head to many times before she works it out.

Charly'smum, IKWYM about the hitting the head. Natalie has toppled a few times before I could catch her and TBH I get more upset than she does, LOL. But the worry is always there, isn't it.
Well, we're booked into the docs for needles today, but I was kinda pushed into it because Natalie woke up with a gunky eye today - yuk. I have to see what it looks like when she wakes up from her nap, but I'm really hoping it was just a once-off and she doesn't have something. Thought it best to get her checked out anyway. She's been coughing a bit the last couple of days during her naps, so it may just be a bit of a cold I guess.

Amy, I hope Natalie's eye gets better, my niece has had conjunctivitis not long ago (21mth old) and its not nice, poor little thing.:(

As for the head hitting or toppling over thing, I sit Maya on one of those thick mink blankets, its a double bed size and folded over, when she topples backwards its not hard on her head. They don't cost much either and she loves the feel of it, falls to sleep on it too.

Maya had her check up today, all went well, nothing to report.

Noah's driving me nuts at the moment, waking up SO many times a night. He normally stirs at least 3 times before I go to bed myself, then anywhere up to 8 more times before morning. I'm losing my mind!
I just can't do controlled crying, and am at a loss as to what else to try. He's teething and snotty at the moment so is super clingy in the days too.

How many teeth does he have now? Would some baby panadol calm him from all that he is going through? I can't do the controlled crying either as I can't see how the stress they go through can be any good for them.

I was going through that not long ago, Maya would wake up quite a few times during the night then it just stopped, I heard her last night, twice, wake and give a little cry for just a second, I waited and she went back to sleep, except for the one time she had rolled on her belly and somehow was at the top of her cot so had to retuck her then.

Hope it all settles very soon.

Still no actaul teeth. This whole "teething business" has been going on for a good 2 months now with no end result. It's very frustrating!
DH can't go in and resettle him for me as he will go balistic! I'm so tired at the moment that I'm not even sure if he's awake every time I go into him or just stirring. Sometimes I don't even remember going in and getting him but he's in bed with me so I must have. He's the type of baby who if I leave even for 30 seconds to try and resettle himself he'll go nuts.
The MACH nurse recommended Sleep School but I'm guessing that involves controlled crying and it's just not for us. I'm with you Chon, all I see it acheiving is a stressed baby and one who might eventually admit defeat and have a "why bother crying, nothing's going to happen" attitude.
I gave him some panadol a few times last week after his jabs, but in all honesty saw no difference.
I really don't know what to do, other than go more and more insane! lol

Hi Lauren, so sorry things are bad atm. You're not alone - last night we had a shocker here. I don't know if her eye or legs were uncomfortable, but Natalie was awake from 3:30am til about 5:20 this morning, and I was up and down trying to resettle her. I have considered sleep school, only because I worry about my tolerance. I can't bear the thought that one day I will snap and scare and/or hurt my baby. This morning as I was putting her to bed, she was arching her back and getting really cross, and I had to leave the room and literally scream. I was just sooooo tired and couldn't understand why she wouldn't let me help her go to sleep. For us, it seems it's making little difference as to whether I am helping her sleep or not... She still cries her little heart out. I went back in, gave her a cuddle (it took a while for her to calm down) and put her back into bed and she went to sleep not long after. And this was for a day sleep! I'm not equipped to deal with that sort of cr@p in the middle of the night.

Lauren, know how you feel, not quite 8 times a night. Had a couple of good night, then last night was late putting her to bed so was up about 5 times. I agree I not doing the controlled crying, I let her go a couple of minutes if she hasn't resettled I go in, the other night made a detour to toilet by the time I got out she had resettled herself. So have been leaving it a bit long. Still you wake up every time and then need to check on them after. Trying to not use the BF to put her back to sleep, works about half the time.

Teething I know what you mean Charly has had raised gums for 3 months, driving me crazy. People keep saying ' so and sos can through in 7 days' I wish.
