Babies Born December 2006

Hi everyone been a little while since been able to log on and not have Charly wake up. She has not been one to sleep for long periods more then and hour during the day, as soon as I put her in her cot she wakes up, so end up give her a long sleep by holding her.

I only seem to be able to get her to sleep when she is feeding, next week I will am going to try holding (putting up with the crying) to put her to sleep. Need to break the habit soon. Plan to get a CD over the weekend to help .... crossing my fingers, I know she is not hungry all the time

It is only over the last week she as been have 4 to 5 hour sleeps during the day usually around 4pm, just in time for dinner.

I have a 8 week check up next week which will be 9 wk 2 days. Had her weight yesterday 4.39 kg. She was 3.65 kg at 5wk 5days so differently no problems feeding.

Charly is getting very talkative when she is awake with lots of smiles and giggles which makes up for the lack of sleep.

Hey Charly's mum, good that she is feeding well. Sorry about the sleeping thing. Do you like dummys? Have you tried using one for Charly? Natalie is a 'sucky' baby and I often give her a dummy to settle her. Not everyone likes them, though.
Good luck with the CD etc. Let us know how it goes.

hi everyone. I ahven't been on for a whihle. We had isabellas 6 week check up on thursday she is 5 kg (3.32 when we came home from hosp) and 57.5cm (50cm born) so she is thriving which I love. She too doesn't generally sleep well in her cot during the day, so sleeps on me. very exhausting. She is having a longer stretch in the evenings 5-6 hours from 6-8pm feed. She is actually asleep in her cot right now which is very exciting!!

Hi Shez. Glad Isabella is doing so well.
I hear you all on the day sleeps - today Natalie didn't sleep for longer than half an hour at a time. I'm holding her now so she'll catch some zzz's because I can see she is just so tired, poor bubba. I don't know what to do. She will also sleep for a longer stretch for the first half of the night, but after that, it is 1-2 hours max. Often less. Agh, I'm trying really hard not to get frustrated, but I'm so jolly tired.

Well for the last 3 days Maya has been taking around 8-10 10-30minute naps during the day, its frustrating as I only get small tasks done at a time before I hear her waking up. But sometimes I hear her then I go in to see her, after shes had a little whinge, and then shes dozed off again:rolleyes: . But she seems happy with this, not grumpy at all. Shes a very happy baby and smiling heaps, even 'trying' a chuckle which is cute! Shes just so happy!! I just hope it lasts;)

Oh and her night sleep is still the same 11.30pm to 5.30am, feed, then another 3 hour sleep for both of us then we get up for the day of short naps:)

snacks; hope your nights turn around, sounds exhausting.

Snacks Isabella is like that some nights too, and most days I fed every 2-4hours. I have to admit I have started slepping Isabella on her tummy as she startles on her back and wakes herself and she can't get back to sleep. I told the paedatrician and he was happy with that.

Chon have you tried wrapping Maya? Sometimes they startle or just don't like the wide open spaces. You must be exhausted with all the cat naps!!!

Oh you girls are going to hate me.... 4 nights in a row now Noah's only woken up once, between 2.30-3.00. He's sleeping 9pm - 8am. Hope all your bubbas start sleeping better soon!

half your luck lotusflower. Bella was up every 1-2 hrs overnight for at least 30mins at a time!!! i am very tired this morning!!!

Well, who knows what's going on with my baby? Her sleeping 'patterns' are so erratic! And extreme. The other day when I posted, we were both really tired, both of us crying all day, LOL. She just didn't want to sleep. That night Dave fed her some EBM from a bottle for the last feed so that I could go to bed. She had a great sleep - and so did I! She's been really sleepy ever since - last night she slept for 8 hours... I'm almost worried! She's still quite lethargic this morning...
So, I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth or anything, but geez, how strange.
Shez - I hope you get some sleep today. Do you ever co-sleep? I don't really want to get into that long-term, but a couple of mornings last week we were able to get an hour or so when she slept next to me on the bed.
Chon - Sounds like Maya is into the day and night rhythm. That's great. I hope the day sleeps even out a bit for you.
Lotus - Grrr, you lucky lady. Oh to have a baby with a little consistency! ;)

Wanna know something funny...............

my last post was correct and everything going well, then that night Maya was WIDE AWAKE till 2am, my other half tried to help then when he gave up he passed her to me and I layed her on my chest......whammo!!!.....she was fast asleep!! She didnt wake up till 8am so we got 6 hours straight, which was nice.

Hows everyone coping with the heat? Maya has slept quite a bit today and I am a little worried how she will be tonight, hope its not another 2am bedtime:pray: I have had a little bit of a problem with sweat in her armpits and her neck where the fat creases are, they look a bit red and skin is very soft and 'clumping' IYKWIM, anyone got solutions to this?? I'm trying the barrier cream (sudocreme) at the moment with some relief but wondering if there is anything better...

Lotusflower; I really hope it lasts for you with the sleep, sounds great!

Shezabelle; I would love to be able to wrap Maya but she doesnt like it anymore and wriggles and whinges until I unwrap her and its way too hot lately.

Chon, powder works the best for this, but make sure you don't get any near the nappy area

Well, Natty had another long sleep last night and today she's been more alert, which is good. I was getting worried yesterday that she was sick. I think she's still a little dehydrated, so I'm going to feed her as often as she'll have it today.
I've been getting more smiles now - I was never sure if that's what they really were, lol, but she's really focussing on me now and she grins. Hooray! Finally some acknowledgement that I exist, ha ha!

I had Angel weighed on friday & she is 4.1kgs yet she doesn't look that much bigger than when she was born! She is still sleeping all night, which, with 5 kids is a godsend I must say. No smiles though, well I thought I got one, but when I sat her up she burped, so nah just wind :( never mind, she'll be running around before I know it!!

Thank goodness the weather has cooled down today, I sat outside with maya so she could feel the breeze and look at 'stuff'. She loved it, her little head was going left to right like she was watching a tennis match LOL

Hi everyone

It has been a busy week, Charly has her first lot of needles on Wednesday. Was not doing this on my own so DH come and held her ... I hate needles and faint usually so was not game to hold her lol. She was upset most of the day and would only sleep with me holding her over my shoulder, got a fever during the night.

So I haven't tried putting her to sleep this week, but she must of heard me because sometimes she falls asleep on her own when i'm holding her Yey. I have tried a dummy but she won't take it... loves her fist.

Had her check up everything is good weight is 4.5 kg and length 58cm.

Chon: Understand your frustration on the day sleeps, Charly has always been a cat napper during the day unless she stays with me which means I still don't get much done. Got a sling the other day so hoping I can get her use to it.

Storm: Have you tried aktivite, they suggest it on one of the threads to boost milk production. I have tried it an it works about three glasses a day.

Good to hear about the sleep patterns of other babies Charly gives me a good sleep at night with one wake up between midnight and 2am, then up around 5-6 but I bring her to bed with me then an she will feed and go to sleep sometimes play. But I am usually an early bird so if she goes to sleep around 6 I'm still awake and do some reading.

Noah had his first round of needles yesterday. He screamed bloody murder, broke my heart! But then as we were leaving he was laughing again! He was a bit miserable last night so I gave him some baby panadol which seemed to help some.
He's still a little bitt off colour this morning but not too bad.
I hear you about not sleeping in the day! I'm lucky if Noah sleeps more than 2 hours total, but then again when he is awake he's not crying or fussy.
Awww Charly's so little compared to my beast of a child! He was 5.990kg & 63cm long at his 7 1/2 weeks appointment! lol

Poor Charly and Noah. Hope they're feeling better soon. I'm dreading Natty's needles. I was in tears for the heel pri*k test!
Charly's mum - Good idea about the sling. We have a baby bjorn and I don't use it at home but have used it at the shops or when we go for a long walk. She looooves it. I'd be really surprised if Charly didn't settle for you in there. She'll be close to you, snuggly and able to hear your breathing and heartbeat. Natalie slept for five hours when my BIL wore her at the shops - I didn't realise how long it was because she was so quiet - felt really bad for not having fed her!
I'm feeling a bit overwealmed with things I should've done. I can't believe we're heading for our 6 week checkup next week and I've drifted through the weeks, not accomplishing anything! The house hasn't been vacuumed in... um... a month? I haven't written any thankyou cards yet. I'd really like to lose about 10kg. Everywhere I look there's something to do. Yet Nat is finally napping (making gorgeous little sighing noises, lol) and here I am on BB with the TV on too! What a laugh. I'm so not motivated to do anything!

I just took Angel to the DR, she has a granuloma too, (zaccie had one) it has been bleeding, she has to go & see a specialist next week to have it removed, OH I am not happy at all!!!!!!

**ETA**, Charly'smum, yup, tried it & I have been prescribed motilium, but after the hemorrhage, I guess I dont have much luck anyway! Dr's did warn me it could happen, while yeah I am very disappointed, I'm happy to still be alive!!!!!!!!

Wow Storm sounds like you have been dealing with alot, sound like your lucky to be able give Angel BF at all. I love her name Charly was due on the 22 and thinking Holly or Angel but DH came up with Charly and it grew on me and it suits her.

Lotusflower I agree Charly may be awake must of the day be very happy and smiling, easy to please BF usually does the trick.

Snacks not sure she will like to snuggle, she doesn't like to be wrapped even if you throw a wrap over her it get kicked off very quickly.... thank god for Grobag at night. Don't worry about the house I'm in the same boat, flat out getting the dishes in the dishwasher when I get five minutes, diffently end up asleep infront of TV usually lol good to know not just me.

I have to go I'm trying to BF and getting a little difficult.

About the booby juice, well that's a bummer. But gee, it's like you say, things could be worse. You and Angel are healthy and that's what counts.
Charly's mum - has Charly been in a sleeping bag all along? I'm thinking of getting Natty into one when the weather cools down a bit. We wrap her, which she likes, but she unwraps herself overnight - I often find her spreadeagled in the morning, arms and legs everywhere, with the useless wrap underneath her! Fortunately, our bedrooms hold the heat (didn't think I'd ever say that after those hot days we had...) and she hasn't gotten too cold (I hope).
Does anyone belong to a mothers group? I've put my name down for one and haven't gotten a call yet. I'm hoping it'll happen soon - I really need the reassurance, am pretty insecure about this whole parenting thing... ;)

Oh Noah's the same Charly's Mum, hates to be wrapped. Gotta love the grow bag! I swear by them even tough they are a tad pricey, they're well worth it imo.

It's Ok snacks, it doesn't bother her, it's a thing LOL growing out of her belly button, I don'tknow how else to describe it, it's gross it oozes & weeps, then it dries, so when I go to change her it's stuck to her nappy, Zac had one too, just not looking forward to the procedure to remove it, they just tie a knot of suture string around it,Zac's swelled up like a blood filled grape, so I hope this doesn't happen to Angel.
Don't be insecure with your parenting, you're doing fine & stuff the housework it will wait!Some days my house is a total write off, but I have learnt to ignore it, babies grow up sooooo fast I'd rather spend my time with them.

Charly' mum, I love the name Charly! I reckon it's awesome, Angel was gonna be Ellie, but coz she came on xmas day DH said she was his xmas angel, LOL, it stuck!.
Funny how different babies are, Angel loves to be wrapped & she is a major dummy muncher!

Natty is the same - needs the wrap. She even prefers to be wrapped when cuddled - she'll rarely fall asleep in my arms if she doesn't have her wrap on. As for the dummy, it's so funny watching her give it a workout - it bounces up and down as she sucks like mad LOL.
Oh, well I'm glad the granuloma doesn't hurt or anything. Bit of a pain for you though, by the sounds - you'd have to clean it up everytime you change her nappy, then? I'd get a bit impatient with that... the cord stump was bad enough, but then I'm lazy, LOL.

I'm wondering about the grobags too! I was given a few at my baby shower and there is one Maya would fit in now, would it get too hot in this weather?

I always find her sheets around her ankles in the morning or her arms are up over her head most times. Problem is when I feel her arms they are cold and she hates being wrapped now. Oh well, seems to be the way with bubs this age LOL:p

Storm; hope all goes smoothly with that granuloma, never heard of them before. Maya's belly button is still weeping a little bit, is this normal???

snacks; LMAO at the dummy description! Maya has been finding her fist more interesting lately :doh: , instead of sucking on her thumb, she sucks on her whole fist! I quickly try to replace fist with dummy.

Well I am really stressing about Monday, we have needles time:cry: . Maya is 9 weeks now so I cannot put it off any longer, I am really not looking forward to it. I already have the baby panadol on standby. I just hate thinking about it, my poor little girl having 3 injections with all sorts of things in them:cry: My partner is coming along with us as I won't be able to hold her while she has them, does anyone have any suggestions for me to help Maya straight after she has the injections, so its not too stressful for her. Do I talk all happy and smile to show her its alright or what.................????????/ HELP!

I am having the implant put in my arm for contraception at the same time, so we will both be pin cushions together....

Awww you'll be right chon! (Maya too!) Noah screamed a bit to start with but by the time we were leaving (they make you wait 15 mins) he was laughing again! I did give him a bit of panadol that night & the next morning coz he was a bit grissly, as long as you have some on stnadby you'll be right!
Are you breastfeeding? If you are just offer her the boob straight afterwards as a comfort.
Noah's been in a growbag exclusively now for must be about 5 weeks. I have the ones with no sleeves. If you get the actual "GroBag" brand they have different tog (blanket weights). I have Noah in a 1tog 90% of the time and a 0.5tog when it's really hot.

Charly sleep from 8pm to 3am no midnight feed last night... hope this continues... properly a one off.

I got the Grobag at boxing day sales no sleeves a .5 and 1, even though we have airconditioning in her room it is still very humid just put a single on with the Grobag usually the .5. Charly was 3 weeks and she kicks a lot and moves around so much in her sleep.

Chon I understand how you feel I was close to tear when Charly had hers last week. DH held her and I couldn't look :( , I BF her straight after and she was fine. She as grissly most of the day gave her some panadol in the early afternoon and she sleep the afternoon ... over my shoulder LOL at least I could sit down. She did get a temp around midnight so gave her more panadol. She sleep a lot the next couple of day .. usually very little sleep during day.

Snacks: The mothers group I've been going to a 5 week one held by QLD Health, maybe NSW has a similiar group, they ahve been very helpful. I am also looking for one for when this finishes.

Re the granuloma, it is a thing growing out of her belly button much like a mushroom, it is growing as a vein is still supplying blood to it, the DR ties it off with string to kill the vein & hopefully it will just drop off in a few days! I think that might be a better explanation huh? hehe

Angel sleeps from 11pm til arount 8am, I guess I am lucky! The other morning she woke up at 5am & it nearly killed me I felt to dead all day!!


Awww Chon, she'll be fine, give her some panadol & lots of cuddles, I remember Zac's 1st lot of needles too, it was horrible! He just wanted to lie on the floor, I guess picking him up hurt the injection site, will be thinking of you!! Just be normal with her, so she doesn't pick up on your stress (hard to do!!)You'll be fine, atleast you DH is gonna be there to pick up the pieces!!!!

I think I'm going to get one of the grobags for a few weeks time when it gets cooler.
Charly's mum - i've put my name down for a NSW health mothers group, but they haven't called me yet :( It sounds very similar - they have 5 structured sessions, then people tend to form their own 'playgroup' and keep seeing each other regularly. I'm so keen to get out and hang with some other parents. I'm really enjoying having you guys to talk to - it sort of grounds me.
Sounds like everyone's winning on the sleep front. Hooray :D The last week or so Natty's been doing much better. She'll do a block of 5-7 hours, (which is great) then sometimes another 3, or sometimes only 1 (which is not so great!) but it helps having the block of sleep - I try to get to bed shortly after she does so I can make the most of it!
Well, we have Natty's ultrasound on her hip tomorrow. Hopefully it was just a ligament thing and she won't need the brace... We'll see.
All the best for Maya's drs visit tomorrow, Chon. Hope it's not too traumatic for you.

Hi everyone

Well Maya didnt get needles today, the will do them next Tuesday as her splint will be off on Sunday. They didnt want to do it with the splint on as it would irritate the area and make it worse for her. So I will just stress about it for another week...LOL

Snacks;does Natalie have a clicky hip??? Try not to stress if she does need the splint, time goes quickly, its been 10 weeks for us on Sunday and Maya's comes off, I can't wait!!!!:dance:

Yup, Chantal, Nat's left hip was clicky at birth, but they decided to wait until now to check it out further.
The ultrasonographer today thought her hips look fine, but we will follow up with the paediatrician on Thurs. I couldn't believe how quick and easy it all was today, actually. Though I did have to turn around when we were half-way there and go home to get the referral that I'd forgotten to bring with us :doh: Talk about baby-brain, LOL.
How cool that Maya's brace comes off on the weekend! You'll have to get some photos of her first bath!
I can't believe the rain here! It has finally stopped for the first time today...

Snacks; I just wondered if you have seen a splint on a baby or not.....I can send you some pics of maya if you are interested and anyone else who is wondering what they look like, just so everyone knows what I am talking about as I never came across them before I had Maya. Shez hope your both feeling better soon, Charly and I are the same I've had it for afew days and looks like Charly got it now. Making her not want to sleep without mum, just hoping her nose doesn't get to blocked.

Snacks I would give them another call about the classes, when I rang the one in my suburb was full until the end of March, but the one in the next suburb had spots. Seem strange them not giving you availablity info at least.

Hmm, might do that I think. Hope you and Charly get better quickly. It's hard trying to fight off a cold with so little sleep... I've been downing berocca most mornings to ward of a sore throat - might be psychological, but I'm feeling better for it! (Even though it does funny things to your wee :) )

Looks like we are making a trip to Adelaide in March FIL getting married, not sure if for weekend or longer,DH has to sort work out. All DH family live down there so hopefully longer then weekend as getting around to them all will be tiring (not all on speaking terms).

Now to decide on basics, our first family holiday/trip :D . Cannot wait to show her off LOL

Cool, that is way exciting. It's scary having to think of all the things you might need for Charly while you're away - I wouldn't know where to start ;)
