o so much to read and i just can't tonight..
I had the best day in 9 weeks :) I read Olivia's cue'd, I didn't feed her every time she cried. I looked for other solutions.. I really enjoyed her today. We played and smiled and oh I don't know was just a good day over all..
then tonight............I should have realised she had been awake to long but she was so happy.. i bathed her and offered her a feed and then BAM she screamed for the next hour and a bit :( nothing I did stopped her. It was suc a bad time too. DH is at work tonight and I was trying to get the boys down to bed.. agh.. I had to put her in her bed to cry while I sorted them out :( I felt so horrible.. but i had no choice.. anyways!! she finally settled.. I offered the dummy and she took it enough to stop screaming and then I offered the booby again and she finally fell asleep..
Why do they do it? I knew she was tired I did everything nice and calmly but nothing was working... Oh well I know for tomorrow to get her to have that afternoon nap and see if we have a better night
Aussienic, you poor thing re: Olivia :( sounds like you had a great day too and then it's topped off with an hour scream....
Well I fed Madeleine before and I gave her IF before a feed. She was so upset because she was so hungry, I heated up her bottle and then it was TOO HOT! So she had to wait  and she's impatient like her mother  she then drank like crazy (because she's a guts) and then had wind pain afterward so screamed for 5 minutes before going to sleep in her bouncer again! I wish I could take away that wind pain when she has it because she goes all red and screams
morning ladies!
had an average evening last night.. poor thing had a bit of gas!! but once it was out slept beautifully for a good night!!
does anyone else's little one start making grumbling noises in their sleep 15min before they wake up for a feed????? i get HEAPS of notice usually!!
glad to hear that most are doing well and getting out and about!! Traditionally in Greece you and bub wouldn't leave the house, at all!!!, for 40 days or have visitors other than direct family!! Some people still do it here, but i was like..."no way i'd go crazy!!! " It was mainly done because bubs and you are sensitive to getting sick and it takes about 6 weeks to get into a routine..! interesting ha?!
bbl baby crying...
Bindy: Thanks.. We had a good night in the end. I think it was just that bad time of the night to deal with crying babies. I will have to be more organized and read her cues a bit better at that time
haroula: wow.. I would go nuts if I had to stay home for that long. Olivia doesn't really make much noise except in the middle of the night.. she will grunt a little so I get up go to the toilet and then she is ready to be picked up for a feed..
Good night here.. Olivia slept 8-1:30 but we fell asleep in the lounge till 3 lol.. I was sooooo tired.. then she woke again at 4 I popped her in my bed and we slept till 5:30.. and now happy kicking away on the floor.. Will try get her down for a nap shortly...
haroula - yes, in indonesia there is also a 40 day rule- for the first 40 days u are supposed to stay home and have everything done for u - you are not allowed to sit cross legged you have to have yr legs tightly together (v impractical way to sit without furniture) and you should be wearing a corset (or 80's style stretch belt - remember them?). you should also be drinking/smearing traditional herbal preparations and splashing yr bits with sirih leaf water. after 40 days there is a celebration where baby is given a name: it's not done until then because infant mortality rates are tradionally so high, after 40 days they have a good chance of survival. the celebration involves a circle of women dressed up nice, singing together a muslim prayer for baby's health, a lock of hair snipped while bub is taken around the circle, and water dabbed on head by each person. following that is a feast of sorts, where everyone gets special food and a card (photo, name, birth details) to commemorate the event. When olly had his in Jakarta 2 years ago, he slept obliviously thru it.
That sounds like a lovely ceremony :)
Nic I hate having to leave Ollie cry but when Flynn the poo-miner needs a nappy change you gotta do what you gotta do :(
Sorry no more personals but have Flynn's and Oliver's MCHN appointments this morning - gotta dash.........
QMab- you're moving to melbourne? omg maybe i will get to meet you after all! as for feeding in public, i'm so blaze that the other day i was walking along in a crowded shopping centre with Mylo still feeding when brett said "can u do that, walk around with yr boob out?" i wasn't even aware that it was anything unusual until then...i just said sure, my son's having his lunch, i don't stop anyone else from eating lunch in public. i could maybe try to be a bit more discreet, but thats the last thing on my mind when i'm tring to navigate the crowds with a hungry newborn and demanding 2yo. i kind of like shocking or offending the kind of ppl that get shocked/offended by breast feeding. its the most natural thing inthe world. then again so is sex and we cant do that in public. confusing!
rory2- love the sound of the chickpea choc chip cookies (or were they muffs?). i been making muffins every few days too - supposedly as an activity to do with olly but in reality he doesnt participate much except for flicking cake mix on the walls. but they are yummy and healthy and vegan, easy snacks for Mr fussy eater. can sneak into the mix all kinds of fruit and veg hehehe.;)..
today is childcare day, but olly is so sick and horribe i cant take him. he has got the naughty bug bad so i really need a break from him, just so i can stay calm when he tries to get negative attention by doing s.t infuriating. sometimes between the two kids and basic house keeping i feel so harassed i just want to hide:cry:. i didnt get a sleep ystdy as we had a lunch commitment, but i cleaned thefloors for the 1st time since mylo was born. i removed the milky footprints and now its shining... i forgot it could do that!
nic - your lucky!! Chrissie makes SO much noise.... if she doesn't stop over next few weeks, i think i'll be butting her in her room!!
lara - sounds similar.... yeah the greeks do the belt too! LOL and your party sounds a lot like a baptism/christening kinda celebration! hehe isn't it amazing how different the cultures are, yet how similar also!!?!?
Sorry to hear Olly is still not well,... poor thing! Yeah i cleaned the microwave for the first time in AGES the other day and it was so satisfying! Next thing is to tackle the oven!! YUK!
rory - good luck with your appointments!!
Chrissie ate at 6am and is STILL asleep!!! usually she would be up by now for food! LOL
xxx
Xtml: that sounds like a lovely ceremony. I hope Olly feels better soon.. I understand the need for a break. Ethan is pushing my buttons lately. As much as I don't look forward to him going to school all day I do enjoy the break..
Rory: I know we gotta do it sometimes but I feel so mean.. Enjoy your day!
Haroula: I think I am a really deep sleeper and I don't hear all those noises till I need to kwim?
I am over whing kids today.. OVER!!!
xtml - ur post cracked me up.. i think thats great about u feeding where ever u want.
Haroula - Ash make LOTs of noise's all the time now. i love it. but i think it might be cos of wind rather waiting to be fed.
bindy- Ash is the same with the red face scream! its incredibly heart breaking! and now hes getting tears now when he does it. but its normally in the car for a few moments or getting changed. its incredible how quick he can stop if i pick him up! lol
Has anyones bubs got cradle cap, or had it or getting it? i think Ash is getting it. What do ppl put on it?
well im off to enjoy Ashs first nap... hello to everyone else :)
Lauren there is a WONDERFUL product for craddle cap called Moo Goo infant scalp formula (you can google it) and all my Junie Belly Buddies (ask Rory) swear by it. It is made of all natural stuff and cleared up Tori's craddle cap in a matter of days when she had it.
Nic- Even when I red Liam's sleep cues properly we usually have lots of crying/unsettledness between about 4-9. Basically if I do get him to sleep during that time it is only for 30mins- 1 hour and the rest of the time he cries or feeds. During this time he REFUSES to settle for DH, so it can be quite hard work especially as it dinner time/ bathtime/ bedtime for Tori in there.
Haroula/ Lara- OMG at not leaving the house for 40 days, I would go absolutley insane if I had to do that. We went out for Christmas day just 2 days after Liam was born. Having said that we went to see MIL in Bali when Tori was about 3 months old and I remember the locals being shocked that we had travelled so far with her, and the couldnt get over how big she was.
FANTASTIC nights sleep here last night. Tori was in bed by 8 and slept to 6, and Liam went down at 9 slept till 3 went back down at 3:30 and slept till 6:30. Was great!
Lauren - I used olive oil for both Maria and Sofia for their cradle crap, rubbed it in then washed of about 20 minutes later.
Lauren: I have never done anything.. Olivie oil was suggested to me to but I just left it alone and it went away
Ali: It is just so ard trying to get other kids to bed isn't it when the baby is crying. I find myself getting flustered. and then the boys don't get my fulll attention.. Oh well it only lasts a short time and boys dont seem bothered by it. I am sure they understand
I feel so cranky today. I don't know why I am so tired. Olivia went to sleep then JAcobs cracking up woke her after 20 mins so then I gave her cuddles and she and I fell asleep together on the couch. Thank goodness Simon is home now on days off.. roll on 12 when he wakes up..
Crapski Olivia stirring already..
nic - i know what you mean... i mostly sleep through it too! hope your day improves
Lauren - the red faced scream we have here too! and tears.... she has shed tears since birth!! typical female! what's funny is the tears start in the eyes before the crying/screaming...!! :cryinglaugh:
no cradle cap yet..
Ali - WOW what a fantastic night!!!!
MCHN appointment went well - only bummer today is I found out there isn't enough work coming in at the moment for me to start back work in Feb like I had hoped :( $$ will be a bit tight as a consequence til things improve, but its only a minor hiccup I guess. We have enough $$ to pay our expenses (just!) so I can't complain.
So did us Melb girls pick a date for a meet up? From memory Buzzie couldn't make next Tuesday (29th) but were we free for the Thursday 30th or Friday 31st? Or would we prefer the first week of March?
Wow, finally got through reading everthing!!
Pretty tired today, had another horrid night with Miss Scarlett although I am hoping things will get better soon... she had a shower with me this morning & really loved it & was calm even through getting dry & dressed which she normally hates. Even though she wouldn't go down to sleep earlier I am trying out my HAB & she has been asleep in it since 11.30!! Woo Hoo!! I've managed to do a couple of loads of washing which is a step up from the NOTHING WHATEVER that I have managed in the last 2 weeks... speaking of which, Scally is 2 weeks old today!! Feels like it too let me tell you lol.
DP tells me last night that he has decided that we should put off moving to Melbourne as he'd finally listened to my whinging about not being ready, our lease not being up etc... but then he tells me that he is going to leave his job anyway so I was like "Well we might as well move then...??" Who knows what is going to happen, it's all very difficult, scary & confusing atm. I wish I didn't have to think/worry about this on top of Scarlett's issues with grumping & sleeping lately... & my issues of exhaustion!! Everybody just hope for me that it all turns out ok!!
haroula: day got semi better.. Olivia is asleep at least. I baked some muffins and a carrot cake.. I got hayfever tho and couldn't stop sneezing. I tell ya hayfever and dealing with a baby do not mix  Poor girl kept trying to go to sleep or feed and I would start sneezing like a mad woman
Rory: bugger about no work but then you get stay home a bit longer. It must be hard when things are a bit tight tho.. Hope some work comes up soon for you
QM: sorry you had a bad night. Olivia loves a shower too. I am yet to shower with her I am nto game yet lol. DH does that.
Happy 2 weeks Little Miss Scarlett...
Hi Everyone!
Had the appointment this morning at clinic - OMG Madeleine has put on 878g since leaving the hospital. She's up to 150mL per feed now too! Gutsy girl, no wonder my nipples were cracked, bleeding and I was crying. I'm a much happier Mum these days! Also the midwife told me not to leave Madeleine sleep in the bouncer for long so it's down in her bassinette after each feed now otherwise we'll apparently get difficulties down the track with her going in her own bed! My DP put her down after a feed at 11am in her bassinette and she's been sleeping so all is good. Midwife says to just pat her and let her go to sleep herself. We'll see how it goes anyway!
Lara, how cool is that Indonesian ceremony! There are so many different cultures out there that do different things. Here are some examples of REST AND RECUPERATION from other cultures I grabbed from my book:
- in parts of India and Central America, mother and child have no contact but the midwife for ten days.
- Japanese women return to their parents for the first month.
- Chinese women take two weeks bedrest.
- In Italy, mothers out with babies under three weeks are frowned upon.
I guess it's all so different! There's no real rule here in Australia is there?
Well I had an ordinary night last night! Madeleine cried from 9-12! She finally went down then and didn't wake until 4 which was good :) ahhhh, just a part of the fun, gotta love these babies though! They are way too cute!
Have a great day everyone!
rory - both 30th and 31st are out for me... ahh this month is such a busy time for me. but if everyones happy with first week in feb, Febs pretty quiet for me except wednesdays cos mothers group.
Bindy - thats awesome bout the weight gain, ash put on about 700g over the last 2 weeks so we were happy bout that too. I have to try the patting to sleep thing and teach him to fall alseep on his own, but i dont think im gonna enjoy it. She said leave him to cry for a bit but i tell u, ill be the one crying with him! LOL i must admit i do jump to him too quick, he barely gets a chance to cry wen hes woken up cos im already picking him up hehe..
I took ash out today to register my car and he was sooo good. popped into the shop too last night and he cried but i thought i seriously need to get over this so i picked him up and kept doing what i was doing, i figure i cant keep running out of shops and he eventually stopped crying and was happy as to lay in my arms the rest of the time. yay! so thats really boost my confidence alot.
is it bout 3months old they can hold there head up? i cant wait to take him shopping and hold him without a blobbly head. hehe
you all decide a date to meet up and i'll be there! :)
QM - you will learn to become more efficient and work with one HAND!! lol about DP and work... it will all work out for the best! you'll see
Lauren - awesome weight gain!!
Bindy - awesome weight gain for Madeleine!!!!!! how do you go expressing 150ml?? i'm finding it hard to express that much every feed!
nic - i get hay fever too!! a real pain when you cant take antihistamines!!
for the last 3 hrs..Chrissie has not slept and has been feeding and pooping like crazy... now she is crying...and i feel like a bad mum.. but i'm letting her cry a little.,.. i too pick her up straight away and i think she has learned that already!! :( not good! .... she needs to sleep, but every time i put her in her bassinet she wakes up! I don't want her to get used to falling asleep in my arms... what can i do?!
ok i picked her up and she has decided to take the dummy!! thank god!..cause i'm tired and have a headache...
ok she is asleep... for the 5th time in the last 3hrs!..........lets see how long this lasts!
ok how about 4th Feb (I meant first week of feb, too, not 1st week of march LOL!)
we could meet at Highpoint?
rory - sounds god to me!
lol Haroula, you sound like me!! Miss is asleep again in her HAB which is better than the last few days at this time when she has been awake/crying from around 1 to 6 when she goes down for a looooooooong sleep. I am thinking I may regret this baby wearing business if she refuses to sleep in her bassinet any more than she already does (slept with me in bed this morning...) but it's working for now & I'm an instant gratification kind of girl...!!
Haroula, I don't express that amount! Madeleine is formula feeding quite a bit now. It works really well for us both!! She still gets some of my milk, just not 150mL every few hours!! Also hun, the midwife today told me to put them in the bassinette after each feed and just gently pat them and walk away! They must learn to go to sleep on their own apparently otherwise it might be harder later on. Well...I wasn't aware of this so I'll see how we go. My DP has put her down after each feed today in the bassinette and she's gone straight to sleep which is fantastic! I have a dummy for Madeleine too, she spits it out a bit but sometimes she likes it. There is no "rule book" to say what is right and wrong, just go with your intuition I say and do what's best for you!
i have just spent the last hr trying to settle a screaming baby!! OMG she has NEVER done that before!!!!
sounds good rory, but im not sure where highpoint is still, i will have to search it
ok baby screaming again!!
bindy - cool!.... sometimes i want to put her on formula too!! like today.....i'm so tired of hanging the boob out!!
ok.. we've settled down again but still now sleep!! that's from 12-now!! with only 5min here and there!!! arg! not good!!
Rory - 4th sounds ok.
Well as if me still being laid up isn't enough DH had to go to emergency room last night with stomach pain and had his appendix taken out this morning! Now neither of us is supposed to lift things, etc - gonna be tricky round here the next few days! MIL here at the moment.
alicia - OMG!!!! you poor thing.. hope DH gets better soon!!! how long is he in hossy for??
Haroula, I really hope Chrissie eases up soon for you! They have days like that!!
thanks
she ate 130ml and DH swaddled her, we put her in the bassinet awake, and she's been asleep since 7pm!!!! woohooooooooo hope she is so tired she doesn't wake up until 3am!!!
hope everyone has a good night!
xxx
Vic.... sorry to hear you've got moving issues to contend with right now - any extra stress is all too much, i hear you! I HATE moving, its so exhausting and stressful and makan tenaga dan jiwanya (sorry, cant translate but you get the drift). but if resistance is futile, there's sure to be some great benefits as a result. at the very least, you'll be rid of the things that **** you off (ie the hated front gate or noisy neighbour's dog). uncertainty is definately stressful, i'd spin out too if my dh said he was gonna quit his job. but it will all be ok, somehow, it always works out good, and you cant even guess how good because the world is unfathomable.
nic- that hayfever sounds crap - poor you. as if life isn't tricky enough without that.
alicia - omg your house is in turmoil - what bad timing poor dh! i hope your MIL is helpful not hellfull.
ok here's my rant: today olly got his little face smashed up on the bus! The saddest thing is he LOVED the bus until now, now he?s scared of it (and so am I!). it was an old style bus that isn't wheelchair or pram friendly (down right unfriendly). To get on i had to let olly out of his pram, he went on and found a seat. then the fat bloated obese driver just sat there as i struggled to fold the pram with a newborn strapped to my chest
it's an impossibly big heavy pram so i couldn't lift it, a granny came and helped and together we got it thru the door, up the steps and into the aisle. But there's no space for luggage and the aisles really narrow so we had to drag it bump it into the passengers all the way to the back and then drag/hoist it up into a seat (really difficult even if you don't have a baby on your chest) at which point the bus takes off, olly falls off his seat (i'm still in the aisle, 2 meters from him, trying to get there) and he fell face first into the floor/step
and comes up screaming with blood spitting everywhere! i run to him screaming and crying too, grab him in a hug with mylo squished in between us and continue screaming everytime i look at his face. His lip swelled up 3 times the size instantly. So I?m on the floor holding olly, screaming hysterically, i cant stop crying, a couple of women come to help, including the granny, to help calm me down and make sure i dont squash mylo in my panic. They get us to a seat and put a tissue to olly?s face, there?s.blood everywhere, they ask where I want to get off the bus because I?ve lost all concept of where I am. All I know is my baby is hurt and my heart is breaking. Luckily mylo is ok, sleeping like a baby in his baby byorn. we get off the bus at the drs clinic and ask to be seen, crying the whole time and causing a scene in the waiting room. The Dr sees us quick and gives anti biotics and reassurance that it'll heal ok. After that I took him to daycare (walking distance from dr) but then i wasn;t brave to get another old style bus as I still had mylo in the pram, so how do I get home? i waited at bus stops 3 times but not one bus was pram friendly so i refused to get on. i ended up walking home (2 hrs in the midday heat, no hat or sunnies) and now i'm sunburnt and even more exhausted than usual. Today was sposed to be my one day a week to get a break and catch up on sleep. poor olly, his face is still grossly swollen (this happened this morning).
xtml: huge hugs :hugs: I hate seeing my babies hurt too. I would ring and complain about that bus driver.. I hope you are both recovering well Olly with his face and you from having a not so nice mummy moment
Lauren:  Good on you.. Glad Ash was such a good boy too.. and you are right.. just get on with what you are doing.. The looks I got today sheesh lol.. Olivia wanted a feed and my norty boys took off to the toy aisle and DH was in the checkout line and I had to go find them which looked bad to begin with cus here I am screaming baby calling out Ethan Isaac where are you? boy they got in some serious trouble..... as for the head. Olivia is pretty much there already but she spend sooooo much time on her tummy it isn't funny
Haroula: I can't take antihistamines anyways.. one the drowsy ones make me sleep for 2 days! and well I have been pregnant or breastfeeding now for OLY I just worked it out.. December 2004 I fell pregnant with Jacob and I stopped Bf him when I was 10 weeks preg with Olivia.. and wow just worked this out too.. I was preg wit Isaac in Jan 2003 and I bf him till he was 10 months then I was preg again.. unfort lost that baby but 2 months later fell pregnant with Jacob.. so since January 2003 I have only had 2 months where my body was mine  that was longer then I expected haha
oh and hugs on the screaming baby.. Trust me I understand..
Alicia: oh so many healing vibes being sent your way.. I hope your DH gets better soon.. I hope your MIL is a great help...
Good afternoon here.. We went shopping Olivia was really good.. I have her sit upright in her sling now and she was happy..Actually the first shop both her and Jacob were asleep so Dh stayed in the car with the kids and Isaac and I went and looked around.. that was nice to have some one on one time..
I bought Olivia some clothes off ebay .. o I need to stay away!! but omg they are so cute.. Will load the pics soon hehe.. Little almost hot pink shorts and these gorgeous denim jeans.. *melts* I am so bad haha....
Well thats about it from me really.. Olivia went to bed at 8 again but thats ok cus when she wakes at 1:30 I have a show I like to watch on .. way better then the infomercials at 3am.
xtml - That is awful!!! Are you going to put in a complaint? I would and I am not the kind of person to do that much. I hope poor little Olly is feeling better in the morning.
Haroula - DH is coming home tomorrow afternoon (maybe) but will be in bed here then for a day.
MIL is being quite helpful but refuses to drive our car (a nice brand new automatic volvo) and seeing as I still can't drive the logistics today of getting to and from the hospital was a nightmare. My sister had to come here this morning before work and drive me and Olivia to the hospital in our car then drive it back here to pick up her car. Then coz MIL refused to come and pick us up in the car with the capsule I had to bring Livi home mid-afternoon in a taxi without a baby seat which totally freaked me out! I had to just take the bassinette attachment off the pram and put it on the back seat, it felt really wrong and like I was a terrible parent, I was so nervous the whole way home. But I had to come home then for my nurse appointment to change my dressing so there was no choice. When we went back to hospital tonight to visit my sister came here and drove us again.
On the plus side Olivia was an absolute angel all day which was fabulous. I fed her breakfast in the canteen at the hospital then she just ate and slept all day (about 7 hours) while we went from waiting area to waiting area until Rob was allocated a bed. She really was wonderful, not sure what I would have done if she had been crying a lot as I was stressed enough today.
Anyway that turned into a long story - sorry. Off to bed now. Only got about 3 hours sleep last night (because of worrying) so pretty tired now. Hope all the bubs sleep soundly tonight.
Alicia: why won't your MIL drive your car? Is she from Melbourne? I guess if she isn't then I can understand as she might be nervous.. I feel for you having to go in the taxi.. I was in the same predicament the other day when my pram wheel fell off but being a small town there aren't many taxis around so I had little choice but to walk... and not sire but for future issues like that I am sure in a big city like Melb you can request a taxi with a baby seat? not sure tho
Grrr Olivia sleeping soundly but I am still up! Think I am over tired now, maybe I can cry like the bubs do ;-)
Nic - Apparently taxis do not need to supply child seats, you are supposed to supply your own and then lug the thing around with you?!?!?!
MIL supposedly had a 'bad experience' once with an automatic car and now refuses to drive one! I tell you I very nearly lost it when she refused to drive it today.
really!! taxis need to change something!! at MIL I hope you managed to get some decent sleep
