xtml: WellI bleedin hope they grow out of it :lol: if not I may go very grey before I am too much older.. We haven't ever had to deal with the terrible 2's before now and i tell ya its been a shock and a half...

Lauren: I personally would just ease off the rocking.. but thats me.. but as Anna said you can buy these things to go under each leg of the cot but from what I remember they are quite expensive.. When Ethan used to want to be rocked I just took the brakes off the cot and gently rocked it.. not easy on carpet tho.. I will have to transfer Olivia soon too. I have managed to keep her in there even though I thought the other week she would be out but nope sorted it out :)

Well I finally got back to sleep at 4:30. I was so freakin tired .. 3 hours in the middle of night.. not impressed Olivia.. oh and she screamed for an our as well. I ended up putting her in the cradle shutting the door and laying on the couch. I was just getting so frustrated and she wouldn't stp so I walked away to calm down and get my wits about me again.. I took her into bed with me and she went to sleep but silly me thought I would transfer her back and that woke her up so I just took her back with me and pat pat pat pat pat pat pat she fell asleep.. onl to be woken by a semi naked Jacob at 5:30.. *sigh*

On a good note we were all ready and walked out the door at 10 to 8 :) I was running a bit late but we got to the park before the other kids. Ethan is under strict instructions he is to ride straight home :) Olivia down for a nap and the boys playing quietly..

Louise - Wow that cc seems really expensive. I would be taking her out and getting a house cleaner!!! Excellent growth for Sofia.

Nic - How scary re Etrhan riding home. I would have been sick with fear. Sounds like you had a night very similar to me. I put Loren in her cot for 10 mins whilst I regrouped!!!! She was wired fron 10.30pm till 2am!!!Finally I had yo put her in the sling and she went to sleep instantly. I slept with her on my chest for 2 hours. Of course she is sleeping soundly now.

Ladies I also posted a woohoo yesterday because Loren slept from 10.30 pm till 2am and then from 3am till 7am....I thoght we had turned the corner but alas she was back to normal last night...actually even worse.

My dh is having a hard time connecting with this bub and he is so cranky atm. He just can't settle her and he gets so annoyed that he does not have the 'magic' touch like he has with Sara. It doesn't help that we can't manage to dtd with they way Loren is at night etc. I think he is serverly :frustrated:....poor bugger.

Bek: I think that might be what is my dh's issue. Olivia just doesn't settle for him like the boys did and the first few weeks she just cried and cried. he said to me yesterday he is enjoying her more now that she smiles at him...

I have been a bit AWOL this week so havent had a chance to catch up on everyone's news, but we have been having a tough time of it latley. Liam doesnt sleep AT ALL from about 3-9 in the evening( I think he has colic) so life just gets turnd upside down.
We are actualley supposed to be away for a couple of days but realised last night when we were in a small caravan with a hyper toddler a screaming baby and 2 very stressed parents that the best thing to do was just pack up and come home (which we did last night) and cut our loses. I also have had breakdown about BF over the last couple of days and have been very close to chucking it in. However, I got up this morning feeling less stressed because we were home and Liam has probably had the 2 best feeds he has had in weeks (ie no pulling off, fussing etc) so I am just going to push on for now.

Anyway I hope everyone is well, I had best go and unpack everything I spent Weds night packing and enjoy the peace of a sleeping baby.

Ali - Huge hugs to you. I know what you are going through, except Lorens whitching hours are between 9pm and midnight. I have come close the chucking bfing too for the very same reasons. Loren pulls off and bobs constantly and then at night (when the rest of the family are sleeping) she becomes so fidgety and hyper that I just can't settle her except to sleep with her in the sling. When I am totally exhausted and I have had enough of Loren's on again/off again business I formula feed.

Buzzie - A snuggle bed is like a tetra bed. Basically a small material bassinett type thing that goes in the cot or in bed with you.

Nic - DH has taken on looking after Sara a lot and he really does not spend much time with Loren. I really think the jump from 1 child to 2 has hit him big time.

we had a great day out at Highpoint today.. Chrissie behaved :) except when it was time for FOOD!! hehehe... bought some hair dye and an outfit to make myself feel more human!

Chrissie fusses at the breast sometimes too... and it gets REALLY frustrating! Sometimes i wish she was on formula as well!....i reckon she would be by now, but DH keeps me motivated.. the darling!...Mostly she's pretty good.... she's just been doing this "clicking" thing lately... really annoying me!!

Quiet day in here...

I had a facial today - it was heaven! I felt so much more relaxed when I got home. I am trying to sell it to DH that way, saying I will be much less cranky if I can go regularly ;-)

Tonight we watching The Golden Compass and boy was it awful, both very glad we didn't pay to see it at the movies.

Well finally had Olivia weighed when she was 6 weeks and sheweighs 3.9kg... Will get other measurements done when I have my CHN appointment as I finally got one...

I think Olivia is suffering from croup does anyone know how to help her through this?

Seriously I can't keep up in here with everyone but I do hope everyone is well and there bubba's are being good for there parents...

Hi Teena - Good to hear from you. Poor little Olivia. No idea how to help croup except for a vapouriser in her room at night and keep her elevated. Maybe some baby vick smeared on a face washer and put under the sheet of her cot

ok I can do a woohoo now I think:

Loren slept from 10.30pm til 2.30am then went back down around 3.30 and slept (on and off) till 6.30am...this is a really good night for her.oh yeah and I have lasted 8weeks breast feeding.

nic- what a crap night for u, u did well to recognise that u needed time out to calm down - that's gotta be the hardest thing to do, keep calm. I hope you've got enough support at home. i'm not exactly a model of calm/patient behaviour but DH is - he almost never gets angry - and it brings me back down to earth to see him deal with things calmly when my patience is long gone. i want to be able to do that too. i only ever went out with psychopathic guys that lost the plot at the drop of an imaginary hat so i'm eternally grateful i ended up with DH. he's a great father and husband and i love him so much!

xtml - I was engaged to a "hot head" and I am so glad I did not venture down that path. I am happy with my lovely hubby too:)

Xtml: Thanks. unfortunatly another crap night *sigh* Screaming from 12:45 to 3:30. I can't do this for to much longer as I am exhausted. and its only been 2 nights. My dh is quite calm too until his buttons have been pushed to hard but he rarely yells but the boys sure know they are in trouble.. I was a lot calmer last night. I just dealt with it. and went back to bed when she went down for her morning nap

So does anyone have an solutions for me with Olivia's delightful new night routine?? she is perfect all day and goes down like a dream between 6:30 and 9 depending on when her last sleep was.. she always wakes at 1ish and screams till after 3. Why? She doesn't want to be fed and is farting a lot. does a lot of little burps as well... help?? I am so very tired


We are off to a wedding this afternoon. I decided to go as I was feeling really left out. Simon is going to the reception tho. the boys and I had a great night last night with pizza and movies :) So this weekend hasn't turned out to be as horrible as I thought it was going to be...

oh and one more thing. just to vent.. It annoys the crappers out me when dh says he is tired and then dozes on the couch after I have been up with a screaming baby half the night.. then tells me I am snapping at the kids too much.. well Duh einstein!! lol...

Nic I think we have the same Hubby, mine picks up a crying Sofia, makes no eye contact with her and doesn't speak to her and then hands her to me 20 seconds later saying he just cannot settle her and she must want boobie.

All I can say is OMG!!! What a shocking afternoon.. Olivia woke screaming so I fed her and then she screamed and screamed some more :( Finally got her to sleep and we had to leave to go to the wedding.. *sigh* She woke up of course in the car but was happy enough but I knew it was only a matter of time before the screaming restarted and of course right on cue.. Get her out of the car and she started within 10 mins wah wah wah wah.. I walked as far away from the wedding as possible missed the whole Bleepin thing and then she fell asleep while they were signing the registry :rolleyes: then it was time to leave again and come home as I am not going to the reception.. I detoured via the shops and spent nearly $10 on a dummy. Came home tried to feed her she wanted nothing to do with it. She hasn't fed since 1:30 just refused it and screamed more. Washed the dummy put in her mouth and BOOM she went to sleep and has been ever since. I held for ages though but nope she stayed asleep but was not letting go of that dummy so she went down with it..

I went and checked her just now and she isn't sucking on it so I though I would try take it out but she has such a grip on it so I don't dare touch it... Is it ok if she stays asleep with it in her mouth like that?? and why would she keep refusing the breast? I know she doesn't take it she isn't hungry but surely after 3 hours with lots of screaming she would want it...

Nic- I have no solutions for you, but if it makes you feel any better we are going through exactley the same thing here with Liam, most afternoons are a nightmare here and I am not game to leave he house with him after about 2pm. As for the dummy I would just leave it, if she wants to sleep with it in her mouth then let her, at least she is sleeping right? As for feeding I am sure she will take it when she gets hungry enough, Liam refuses to feed if he is not ready as well.

Hi girls, been having a shocker here too, that's why I haven't really been around. I will say though that Abbey was pretty good for the most part of the day. But come this afternoon/evening all she did was scream. Sounded like a very pained cry though, she was even crying while having boob poor bubba. I gave her a warm bath in the hope of settling her, but it didn't really work. Gave her some Infacol, that didn't work either. I wrapped her, walked, cuddled and eventually she fed and fell to sleep. Not sure what was up with her.

I agree, if baby sleeps with a dummy in it's mouth, then as long as it's happy and asleep, leave it there.

Bek, Abbey has just started the head bobbing, pulling off and on the boob too. I think it is more an age thing - once again. I remember Tehya doing the same thing around this age. Not sure why they do it though. I do know however, that it does stop and they do settle back into feeding properly. Gorgeous pics btw :D

Finally had Abbey weighed and measured on Friday. She is 4.8kgs and 60 cms long !! Is anyone elses baby that long ?? She is on the 50th centile for weight but the 90th centile for length. No wonder everyone comments on how long she is. Looks like I'm gonna have another tall child in the house.

Hope everyone has a good night and bubba's behave themself and sleep good for mummy. If not make the daddy's get up with them.... Yeah Right !!

Kayla has been fantastic.. slept from (can't remember exactly LOL) say around 7 (possibly earlier.. even before dinner??) to 1.30am. But Tallon woke up at 1.30 too.. and only JUST went back to sleep. Kayla is asleep again now too.. she wouldn't have been up so long tho if Tallon hadn't woken. *sigh*. We're doing a bit of tough love on Tallon at the moment, trying to get him to stay in bed on his own. I'm tired of it taking up to an hr of me sitting with him waiting for him to fall asleep. It's hard, and he's crying more than I'd like, but even in our bed, he's so obsessed with my hair that he's always choking me with his arm around my throat reaching for my hair, so we're trying to be consistent taking him back to his bed.

Sorry to hear about the screaming bubs. We've had a couple of good days for a change lol. Kayla is fussing on the boob too lately, pulling on and off and shaking her head as if she can't find the nipple. It's so annoying. Often it's coz she needs to burp, other times its just her fussing I think.

Nic - Kayla falls asleep with the dummy, sometimes it stays, sometimes she spits it out. I think at this age it doesn't really matter. I try not to give it to her through the night, she's fairly good at getting back to sleep after a feed without it. I tend to use the dummy more with her day sleeps.

Trish - Kayla was 59.5cm on the 22nd.

I compared my 2 bubs, and Tallon was the same weight at the same age! He was born 2.7kg, and at 11wks was 5.35kg. Kayla, born 3.5kg was 5.5kg at 11wks! So yay - she's averaging out. Altho, she's still a whopper for her corrected age LOL. I can't believe how much Tallon stacked on the weight tho! wow!

Ok, think I'm finally getting sleepy again.. don't you hate waking up too much at this time of night??

What a crap time to be hun Liz. I hope you managed to get some more sleep. Ahh you have a hair kid too. Both Noah and Tehya did that with me. Noah thankfully weaned over to his own hair, although often when I was driving and he was tired he'd ask for my hair. It's not that long. Now he will play with his own hair when tired. Tehya used to annoy the crap out of me in the night trying to play with my hair. She'd pull it, twist it and do whatever else. Any wonder it was so split at the ends.

I often go through the kids blue books to compare their sizes, although Abbey being born a whole pound smaller than Noah and Tehya and smaller again from the big boys, it's hard to make a real comparison.

Aussienic - go the dummy I say. I have been using it with Bronte for those "difficult" times & it is a godsend. DS flatly refused one so I am glad she is taking it. Also, think it's fine for her to fall asleep with it in her mouth. I had one of the more expensive ones & then a midwife told me most babies seem to prefer those cheapo Happy Baby ones that cost like $3 for 2. Maybe stock up on these as well so you have one handy when you need it. Seems like there are a few with settling issues still so good to know we are all not alone.

Hi Trish, hugs I know what it is like to have the baby good in day and then scream at evening/afternoon. My son Callum does the same. Sometimes he screams till his feed in the middle of the night. We have tried all of what you have mentioned and sometimes nothing works. Sometimes we try re burping him by putting him over the shoulder and that works. Other times I lie him over my knees on his tummy and rub his back. Nothing seems to work all the time.

Isn't it funny, what works one time, next time around does diddly squat. I did the over the legs thing too, worked for about 5 minutes. Atleast I got to shove some dinner in my mouth at that time.

Abbey is in bed sleeping soundly while we all bustle around the house tiding up. I'm sure the second I jump in the shower she will wake up. Best get back to it. Kids have come in the house making a noise, once again !!

i need to vent.. Olivia finally fell asleep at 12:30 and slept till 6 :dance: but she fed and went straight back to sleep with me. I heard the kids up and fighting so I woke Simon up and said can you get up with the kids please.. well he did.. and then he must have come back to bed.. I woke u just before 9 and simon is still asleep next to me as is Olivia. So i get up and holy.. the kids have made a huge mess. Jacob got into my nappy bag and squirted my water free hand wash everywhere :( I got so mad then I went down and woke Simon up and started in on him too. I am so mad that I am the one who needs to catch up on sleep yet he thinks its ok to let 3 children run wild.. Anything could have happened and yet he says.. When I got up at 6 they were playing Xbox I didn't need to get up.. um duh yes you did!!! I am so mad...

On the bright side Olivia is still asleep...

Liz: Its hard when you have to get tough with them isn't it. I remember when Ethan would constantly come into our bed. It was so annoying having to get up to him half a dozen times..

mummyto2: I bought the elcheapo one the other week and while she would take it it was to big in her mouth so I bought a smaller one and she took it. so far she has only had it that one time though

Well, Kayla has just amazed me, and I'm afraid she's got my hopes up about her sleeping LOL. As I said, she slept from dinner (dunno the time) until 1.30.. went back down probably at 2.30 and slept through the rest of the screaming from her brother (he had daddy with him in bed.. why did he want me so bad?? argh!!) and then she woke at 7, fed and went back to sleep until 9.. found her awake and gurgling so got her up for a play, fed her, left her in her rocker amusing herself for a while, and she's been asleep again for probably the last hour! I've had NO crying from her yet this morning! LOL.

OMG Nic at the mess you woke up to. I'm dreading this. So far whenever DS wakes up he comes and finds me straight away (clingy little so and so that he is LOL) so I haven't had the worry of him getting up and getting into things just yet.

OK, must go, trying to get washing and stuff done before going on hols tomorrow!

Liz, no point in washing hun. It's raining here. Of course I had a line full of bloody nappies too. DP came and said oh it's raining a little, do you want me to leave them out. Thinking it was just sprinkling I said yes. I walked out and it was p!ssing down. So I did the mad rush in the rain. Poor buggar, he was in the middle of mowing.

What a good girl Kayla is Liz, hope it's not the lull before the storm for you. I'm lucky, when Noah or Tehya wake up they call out for daddy, well trained hey ;)

Nic, I don't blame you for being annoyed, I would have went off my brain. I mean your hubby could have went and even lay down on the lounge and semi supervised the kids. I hope you made him clean up the mess.

DP went out last night and brang his merry bum home just after 1am (so he says) but he still got up to the kids overnight and was up by 6 am with Tehya this morning.

Abbey woke not long ago and has had her bath, and having booby now. Hope whatever was bugging her yesterday is gone now. Think the Infacol kicked in somewhere overnight. I moved Abbey over for the other boob and she did the hugest fart. I swear it sounded like an adults. Poor bubba.

Oh, when your babies burp does it scare them ?? The reason I ask is sometimes when I am feeding Abbey, she is sooooo relaxed, anyway she will sometimes burp while she is on the boob, when she does this she jumps so high, it literally scares her. Ahhh someday in the next 2 years she will think burping and farting is hilarious like the rest of the kids.

LOL - Kayla is scared by her farts. Mind you, I think they hurt her coz she really screams with them. You'd think actually farting would feel good! LOL. Burping doesn't seem to worry her. She did a reeeeaaaallly long burp for mum the other day and mum couldnt' stop laughing. It was pretty funny, I don't even do burps that long!

Oh and as for washing - yeah it's a chinese laundry indoors today.. and the dryer will get a workout later this afternoon. It's just been drizzling and threatening rain today, so I'm not taking the chance outside.

Liz- I can sympathise with you and the tough love thing, we are having to go through the same thing with Tori at the moment as well for bed time and waking in the night, and she is exactly the same even though DH is in with her she is still screaming for me. We have actualley started letting her cry a bit rather than consoling her the minute she starts, we just sit quietly in her room with her and have started to notice that her cries are much different to when she is really upset or hurt, these are more just noise. We have been rewarded though because she slept last night from 8:30- 7:30 this morning, when usually she is up between 5:30-6:30. I hope Tallon settles for you soon.

Mto2- I have heard the same thing about happy baby dummies, that most babies prefer them- that would be of course except my 2 who much prefer dummies that cost $8 for 2. Having said that though the ones we use have the sillicone teat and seem to last lots longer, I havent had one split or break in the whole time Tori has had them.

We had a slightly better afternoon here yesterday, I think partly because I decided not to get too stressed, stress is just making it worse. I also went out and bought baby swing which worked in getting off too sleep a couple of times that nothing else has worked. Liam has also gone back to feeding better so I feel better abot that too, not so ready to chuck it in now.

Anyway better get something productive done while he is sleeping, i hope everone is having a good weekend.

Ali - yep, usually it's just noise, but it eventually gets more distressed as he gets more tired and fights the sleep. Not sure we're really doing the right thing LOL.. coz he's just started sleeping really well, pretty much all night.. goes to bed about 7.30/8.00 and sleeps maybe until 4am and comes into us. But he relies on me staying with him after his boobyfeed until he falls asleep, sometimes it's really quick.. like just now (yes I caved LOL - I have things to do!!) but other times it takes over an hour.. that's when I want to change things. It's hard, coz I do love the cuddles when they're nice. We have a nice cuddly chat together talking about who loves him :rolleyes: lol and then he drifts off to sleep.

We just came back from taking Olivia to her second movie (Enchanted). She ate for the first half an hour and then slept for the rest :-) Hopefully this sort of behaviour will keep up for a few more months so DH and I can go and see a few more things.
