Holly- Ouch! I hope they heal soon, hopefully the nipple sheilds will help alot. Did the mchn give any indication how long they make take to heal?
AJP- 7 hours! Too bad it wasn't thru the night. Thats great tho.
Meg- Good luck with the wind drops I hope they do something.
-
E slept much better last night. Fed at 11, settled by 12 (including feed time) Slept till 3:30, back in cradle by 4:30, then asleep till 6:30. Then she slept in with us till 9:30 when we all got up. Mum is still here so she was up with J. He got up at 8. Hoping for the same tonight. I bought the wind drops, and they are getting her to do much bigger burps. So maybe they have helped.

Hello all!! Can I join in here?
Grace was born on 1/3/09 at 2.38am so I just missed out on this thread but I wanna stick with all my Belly Buddies!! If I can keep up that is.
Still recovering from c-section.
Learning to breastfeed and OUCH!! Some of you probably read my thread on it before. Anyways, this new mummy stuff is a lot harder than I expected. It seems like nothing went according to plan! Was in labour for 33hrs, never got to fully dialated, she was too big for me to come down far enough into my pelvis they think. Had an epidural, didn't work, so they took it out and put it in a different place. Then when they went to top it up for the cesar it didn't work, i wasn't getting numb. So they took that out and I had a spinal which went wrong and i was numb up to my neck and felt like I couldn't breathe. So not exactly the natural birth I had planned :( And now with the breastfeeding I just feel sore everywhere.
Tell me it gets better!!
-
Shell, no indication how long it will take...all I keep hearing is how they will be better in no time and it gets easier etc...I can't wait for the magic day when feeding doesn't hurt!
Megie, glad you had a decent night and sleep in!
Hi Heaven :) Wow your labour sounds extreme, so sorry you had to go through all that. I'm with you on the bfing! I am finding it such a depressing and painful task at the moment and I think I get more worked up than Leon when he's hungry coz I know how much it's going to hurt! I'm using nipple shields now and they have made it a lot less painful, still painful but I can at least feed him. Just waiting for my stupid nipples to heal
Anyway, I have some time to myself as Mum's taken Leon asleep in the HAB to show off to our neighbours. Might have a bath...
-
Meg, we had better night too last night, just hoping tonight is similar. Glad the wind drops working, might have to get some cause Em been bit unsettled today always looking like she trying to push something out and drawing her legs up.
Heaven- yes it gets better! Altho at this stage its sometimes hard to believe, sounds like quite a long, traumatic labour for you, have you got your partner or anyine around to help you out so you can recover?
Holly- Glad the nipple sheilds are helping somewhat. My nipples are no where near yours from the sounds of things and I'm finding feeding painful so I do feel for you. Hope you got that bath in.
I'm just feeling bit blue today, exhausted even tho we had a better night, just Em been unsettled alot of the day and I get sore and tired having her on and off the boob constantly. I give her a dummy sometimes just to give my breasts a break but as soon as it falls out she starts screaming.
-
Morning all
Well my ABs have finished, my epi is feeling better and we've had a few good days with Isabel. She's been more settled, have been out and about during the day and she sleeps in the pram and car and doesn't scream all day.
Here's hoping it continues...
She is still punching out one four hour sleep at night and then will be up and down around that. Its not too bad I think... but DH gets really frustrated with her when she's unsettled. This morning she fed at about 5.30am and has been pretty much awake since then. We can't put her down as she cries, so we try to settle her, she'll calm down but we can't put her down again. Sigh!
I've been told by the MCHN not to try the wind drops just yet, but to give it more time.
Shell, I know what you mean about feeling a bit blue. Its tough isn't it, not being able to do more?
Holly, well done for persisting with the feeding. It does sound like most of us in here are breast feeding. Also, the ABA says that you cannot overfeed a breast fed baby. Formula, yes, but b/f no. Someone also told me not to worry about how much goes in, but to worry about how much comes out.
SJ, hello!! Welcome! Sounds like your labour was pretty full on. Hope you are recovering ok. Yes, it does get better!
Hi to everyone else!
-
OP - You poor thing. I hope things improve soon. it is hard. My ds (J) was just the same, but it only lasted till he was about 7 weeks. I just used to put him in a sling.
Also I have learnt from last time to go with what I want to do and not let the health nurse upset me with telling me what i am doing wrong. This time last time I was just about to be admitted to the mother/baby unit at North Park (Melbourne) with PND. I was shattered and beside myself. So far I seem alright, but I am keepoing a close eye on my feelings, and if I get even and inkling, I am going to go back to North Park as they were just brilliant. Also for anyone in Melb with Private Health insurance, if you have troubles down the track with feeding, sleep or weaning problems, North park is awesome. They are a bit like sleep school, but you get to go in for 4 nights for any of thise issues. If you are there for PND, you stay as long as you need to be there.
Had an alright night. E fed at 12:30, then straight back down till 3am, then up again at 5am, 7am and 8am. She was SO hungry. *sigh* as bad as this sounds, I am wishing the next couple of months away. I am just not that in to newborns, but I adore them once they are a bit of character.
-
Oh it sounds like everyone is having the same dramas!! Breastfeeding is feeling a little better today. I'm trying to get her on as soon as she wakes up so she's not screaming and vicious!! lol.
Funny poo explosion story. We were awoken to a huge noise in her nappy!! lol. So DH goes to change her and I went to see the damage. As he's lifting her legs to put the new nappy on she's not quite finished and poo goes everywhere and hits me standing 2 metres away!!!!!!!!!!!! It was all down my front. I think it would have hit the other side of the room if I wasn't standing there!! Unbelieveable.
I can't believe how much Grace is feeding today, it seriously feels like she has been on the boob more than off!! How will my nipples ever have time to heal!!
-
Heaven- LOL, that happened to me when Ash was 3 weeks old, not much fun! I'm finding the more I feed the tougher my nipples are getting, or maybe they've just gone numb from feeding so much.
Meg- Yep I'm with you, just doing what works and what I feel comfortable with. Think 2nd time around I just feel alot more confident with what I am doing and don't care what others think.
OP- That sounds like my story, every time I put Em down 10mins later she is upset again. Get her all settled try again and same thing just goes on from one feed til next.
So we didn't have best night either, Em was pretty unsettled from 2am til 5am think I got like 10min naps in here and there. This lack sleep makes me so teary. She is quite different from Ash alot harder to settle and keep asleep.
We went and had photos done today, got a nice family one and one of the 2 girls together. Of course Em slept right thru and was so well behaved then bet tonight she'll decide its awake time.
-
Shell - sounds like you are having a tough time. How do you go getting up to Ash? I find that the biggest killer is getting up with the toddler.
Heaven - the poo story is so funny, but I am betting it will happen a few more times in her lifetime yet!! :)
-
Meg- ATM Df is still home, back to work Tues so he gets up with Ash in mornings and if she wakes in the night, luckily tho she doesn't usually wake til after 7:30 and she usually reads in bed til 8ish.
-
Heaven - love the pooplosion story - just waiting for my first accident with a number 2 - had heaps of number 1s - but I'm getting quicker!!
OP - found that bubs wind is directly related to my diet. A GF was saying that she had to take out all the interesting things out of her diet when she was BF her babies. Have also heard that pushing their legs up to their belly helps, rubbing their tummies in circular motions, patting on the back - just wish bubs had read the manual before he came out!
Meg - Northpark sounds like a great place. Sorry to hear that bubs is not settling.
Also re the sore breasts, I found that expressing milk at the end of the feed, and rubbing it in, and leaving them to dry al natural helps, a bit.
I have trouble BF with one side, which is about a cupsize bigger than the otherside (which isn't a problem!)
:grouphug: Sorry have been MIA
AFM - I can get about 2-3 hrs sleep from Alex if I spend anywhere from 40 minutes to 3 hours settling him and he is a booby monster at times!!
-
Sorry I've been MIA - it;s hard to get on when both kids won't leave you alone for 5 min and when I do I try to have a nap to catch up
J is pretty good - feeding well and I'm having no more nipple problems since the grazes from the first few days. We managed to go for brunch this morning whcih was nice except that I sent my coffee back 3 times - it was undrinkable which was so disappointing as it was such an effort to get out :(
Will try to write more soon. J is screaming again - she seems to do this between 5-10pm!!!
-

Nai - Glad you got out, just a shame that the coffee was bad.
tarkine - Most bub's favour one side. E doesn't like the right side very much.
E slept really well last night. Fed at 8pm, then 12am , then 4am then 6:30am. I feel so well rested! I went to bed at 9pm, so got a fair bit of sleep
-
Hi ladies,
Having another unsettled day with Isabel here. We were out for lunch yesterday, she was quite good there, but then went back to friend's house for birthday cake and she pretty much fed the entire time we were there. Got to 8.30pm and she was beside herself so we left... got home, fed her again, put her down and she slept for 5hrs :o
Of course I did not... kept waking up wondering when she was going to wake...
Fed her, took a while to settle, then she slept for another 3hrs :o
Paying for it today though, she's been awake since 7.30am... with only one nap...
-
shell i will be thinking of you tomorrow morning  that will be me next monday morn when hubby goes back.
nai how can they get a coffee so wrong???
meg you did have a good night!!
op  i hope isabel sleeps this arvo for you. once their overtired thats the end of them.
millie is good, still has a snotty nose so off to the Dr's tomorrow, i think a week is too long for a newborn to be snotty for.
she did well last night, fed 7.30pm, in bed by 8.30pm woke at 2am for a feed, i was leaking badly!!
tthen fed at 5.30am and 9.30am, DD1 was up around 7am so DH took her and i slept til 9.15am!!
-
Hearing those decent night sleep stories is holding out hope for me!
Em was unsettled again from like 5pm til 12:30am. Then was awake from 3:30 til just after 5am. So tiring, I'm at my wits ends how to settle her. She just constantly wanted the breast to the point I felt I was totally emptied. She can't be that hungry can she? Plenty wet nappies and all so I'm presuming its more for comfort? We also used the dummy and rocking but 15 mins after putting her down she screams again and swinging her head wildly looking for booby. She has her settled time from her morn feed when I have to get up of course til afternoon.
AJP- yay on good night, you prolly right getting snotty nose checked, tho maybe cause their immunity wouldn't be so good might be harder to fight it? She feeding alright even with all the snotty's? yeah I'm bit nervous bout tomor, mum coming over wed tho and another friend thurs so that'll be good.
OP- thats great she slept 5 hours, I hope she has settled for you today tho, you must be getting exhausted now with her having just the 1 nap.
Meg- Think I'll have to start having or trying to have early nights too from now on.
Nai- Thats great you got out for brunch, not game to attempt that yet. They could've got the coffee right tho, how hard is it?
Tarkine- Alex sounds bit like Em with the settling time. can be so exhausting can't it.
-
Now that she has finished feeding (and is hopefully having a sleep...) I can do some personals...
AJP, great work on the sleeping! DH had Isabel this morning too so I got a little bit extra sleep. Was great! Hope Millie's snotty nose clears up soon!
Meg, glad you're taking advantage of the good sleep to rest yourself. Must be nice to feel rested for a change!
Hi Nai, completely understand about having no time to yourself! Sucks about the coffee... I agree with AJP, how can they get it so wrong?!
Oh dear, bubs is awake...
-
And spoke too soon... back on the boob...
Shell, that is how I felt yesterday arvo. There can't possibly be any more in there, what are they getting? Sigh...
-
E has been on and off the boob a lot of today.
The part i find the worst is that I snap at J. And he has done nothing wrong!
-
Shell- Oh no, you must be so tired!! Grace is the same sometimes, I can't tell when she actually wants more boob coz she's hungry or just for comfort. I'd rather not do the comfort ones, I want my nipples to heal and I don't think that can happen with her on there 24/7!!!!
Nai- Good to hear the grazes have cleared up, I think mine are getting better too! Phew.
Tarkine- How are you going?
Meg- Wow, that is a good night! Ours wasn't so restful last night but I'm hoping now I've got the breastfeeding more sorted it might be better tonight.
OP- Wow, you're so good getting out!! I can't wait til I feel confident enough with everything to go out! Had to go out to the breastfeeding clinic this morning and that was stressful enough but went ok in the end!
AJP- Almost 6 hrs sleep! That's so good. I would be leaking all over the place too. What do you wear to bed? I want a nice comfy crop top thing but don't know where to find one, my bras are too uncomfy for sleeping.
Well, I went to the breastfeeding clinic this morning and saw another LC that was much more helpful than the last and she actually found what was wrong instead of just saying it was ok when it's clearly not!! I fed Grace there on both sides and it didn't hurt!!!! I wasn't pulling her in close enough and making her chin dig in enough and touch the breast first. She just had another feed before and I did it properly!! I'm so happy, I hope it continues!! When I was there they had a boomerang pillow to use too which I didn't have at home and it was so much easier on my back trying to hold her so I got one on the way home.
She got weighed while she was there too and omg what a little piggy, she's obviously getting enough milk. She's above her birth weight and has put on 520g in 5 days, lol. So I'm hoping now she won't be taking as long to feed b/c she will be being more efficient with the right attachment and I can get some more sleep at night!! Wishful thinking?? lol.
-
awesome weight gain sara!! these feb babies are porkers!!
glad the LC today was more helpful!!!
i wear different tops, not materniyt ones, just normal pj tops, i too want something else, yet to look though!!
-
Heaven, thats fantastic, feeding won't be so stressful for you now knowing its not going to be so painful.
Meg- ikwym, i have less patience with Ash, I try really hard to bite my tongue over little things but I do find I'm bit more snappy. As tired as I am I put in that effort to have one on one time with her when Em is quiet.
-
im having the same issues with DD1 i even have a thread regarding it in platnuim!
-
OceanPrincess, hope you get more of those 5 hour naps from her!
AJP, I am leaking a lot too! Do you just let you pj's get wet? I have no idea how to solve the issue, I sleep with a towel next to me that I continually use to wipe myself!
Shellbell3  I really hope things improve with settling. Leon confort sucks a lot too and falls asleep on the boob, good thing is once he's asleep I can usually transfer him to his bed without too much problems.
Heaven that's great news on the bfing :)
AFM, started feeding on the breast again today. The left side went really well. I had my midwife come around and make sure he attached properly. It didn't hurt at all. Next feed I tried the right side. I got the attachment wrong at the beginning and it just made my nipple worse  I managed to get him on correctly but the damagfe was done. The graze/chunk missing started to bleed a bit and was red raw when I took him off. So I will just have to express the right side until it heals completely and not try to rush things. Besides that hiccup, he is doing great. He's above his birth weight and has been sleeping most of the day. I should really sleep when he sleeps! I also managed to post my birth story today before I forgot the details
Anyway, better go get stuff done around here xox
-
A is fussy 2day.. sorry no personals.. won't let me put him down.. had visitos yesterday and he is always difficult 2 settle the next day after such activity
-
I am glad that I am not the only one a bit snappy at my toddler. J is pretty good too, Just so noisy. E won't let us put her down this arvo, so she has had a snooze on DH.l She is about ot have a bath, and I am going to hop in the shower with J. a good way for us to spend a bit of time together.
Wishing everyone sleepy vibes tonight.
-
Thanks girls - I was thinking I was a grumpy old woman whinging about the coffee but yes, how hard is it to get a cafe latte right?
J has slept really well today so I guess we will be up most of the night
-
Evening all
Well after having DD on and off the boob all afternoon, DH was sleeping, eventually he got up and took her from me and tried to settle her. I went and had a sleep and she finally settled for a little hour snooze.
She woke, I fed her, then we gave her a bath and Grandma took her to settle her. Grandma and Grandpa had brought dinner around for us (how nice). She down now... not sure how long for! I'm going to sleep soon I think...
Nai - g/l with the sleeping tonight! Hope J lets you get some rest...
Tarkine maybe that's why Isabel is so unsettled... she had a big day yesterday... hmm! G/l with Alex tonight.
Holly - read your birth story, it was great! Fantastic that you had a good feed off one side, the other side doesn't sound too good... definitely let it heal hun. So great that you are persisting.
SJ - that sounds fantastic at the clinic!!! Well done on getting there and sounds great that you spent time with a helpful LC. How awesome that you had a couple of good feeds! Must be a load off your mind.
I agree, these bubs are definitely porkers!
With regards to night wear - my sister has one of these and highly recommends them, its a Kyrawear nursing/sleep bra. Do a google and you'll find it.
Its a sleep bra - she says it is supremely comfortable and wears it all the time. I don't have the leaking problem (yet?) so I haven't bought one... will see if I need one.
Well sounds like Izzy is awake so I might be up for one more feed before she settles in for a four hour sleep... glad I didn't go to bed now..!
-
ooohhhh op willcheck them out, sorry i had to remove the link!
im going to read your birth story tomorrow whne i have more brain cells that function!!
hope your dinner was nice!! very nice of your parents to bring you dinner!!
nai the more they sleep the more they want to sleep!!
tarkine i dont get millie up if people come to see us!! too bad as were the ones left with an unsettled baby! they can admire from afar!
well millie is alseep so i might head to bed as well
-
helloo... do u mind if i join in here? bella was born on the 13th so i am 3 days out! but i know most of you already....
-
Bad night last night. Up at 12:30 till 1:30 then 3:30 to 5, then 6 till 7. zthen J got up at 7. He is in childcare today. so going to try and catch a snooze at some point.
-
I'm thinking of hiring one of those baby hammocks, meant to be good for unsettled babies, thinking I should try anything at the moment!
Hi Laura, of course you are welcome in here!
Holly- Sounds like you are half way there with the feeding, when I think about the chunk missing as you put it it makes me cringe owwie!
OP- How did the night end up going?
Meg- Can be so much harder when there is a toddler to get up to too. I have put Ash name down at child care for one day a week for a break, just gotta wait for a place.
First day on my own today, so far so good (touch wood). Nick Jr is going to be our best friend for next few weeks I think!
-
:hello: laura, c'mon on board!
Holly - chunks?! - Major ouch!! (sorry missed that when I was scanning the pages before).
Alex is more settled.. have been giving him tummy time and nappy free time, coz he was starting to look pink. Hoping to get out this afternoon  - well that's the plan - hasn't worked so far!
-
Hi Laura! Come on in and join the sleep deprivation gang :D
DD1 had yesterday off childcare as it was a public holiday and we all went to the zoo - I am sooo looking forward to tomorrow when she goes back as she is doing my head in being home with me having had no sleep. Not sure what I was thinking going to the zoo on a public holiday in perfect weather - it was packed!
DD2 is not sleeping well at night - she feeds constantly for a couple of hours in the late evening/night and is determined to NOT sleep in her basinette at any cost. She will only sleep in her pram or on mum or dad. So I either need to walk all night or have her in bed with me. Hopefully she will come to terms with it very soon as I'm starting to get a sore neck from sleeping around her.
She is eating well so I'm sure she is not hungry - she has lots of wet and dirty nappies (definitely more than 6 a day) so I'm not concerned about that. I think she is just not happy about being out in the real world. I think she is going to be a porker too so she will fit in with the others here ;)
-
Afternoon ladies,
Hi Laura!! Course you can join us! How's Bella going??
Tarkine, glad Alex is being a bit more settled. I've been giving Isabel a bit of tummy time today and I think we are going to give her some nappy off time today as well. Her bottom is getting quite red too.
Meg - you poor thing, that sounds like a shocker of a night! Hope tonight is a bit better
Nai - that's no good about J not sleeping anywhere but pram or with you! I think we are lucky that Isabel will eventually sleep in the cradle, even if it takes some time to get her there.
AFM - we had an interesting day today, Isabel was unsettled this morning but I got her down eventually and she had a nice sleep, I was able to change our sheets, clean the bathroom and do some other stuff which was good.
I've had her in a bouncer thingy this afternoon - she seems to quite like that. Except she's still quite windy and it doesn't help her wind really... she's having some nappy off time with daddy now (yay for Daddy being home!!).
Better go do some washing while DD is occupied...
-
OP - maybe I just haven't got the reserves to make her stick with the bassinette and I'm giving in too easily  maybe it's 2nd child syndrome? I know I was much more determined to get DD1 to sleep in her bassinette and she NEVER slept with us in the bed...hmmmm....
-
I am with you Nai. I give in easily this time around, as I know that I have to get up at 7am with J. Houw many days a week does G goes to childcare? J goes 1 day a week. i wish it was 2 though.
-
Nappy free time doesn't work too well here cause Em screams when I taker her nappy off, so changing it isn't much fun!
OP- You're a good girl getting cleaning done! I don't think I'll be getting much done for awhile. If she is having a good sleep you're meant to go and lie down, nap, put your feet up or just relax!
Nai- We have similar probs, nighttime comes and suddenly we don't want to settle, she is in bed next to me but won't sleep unless I'm holding her close upright, wish I could sleep like that! Then as soon as I lay her down again she starts up. Its so tiring. Otherwise its just the boob on and off.
