Ali - I guess all we can do is follow our intuition and if doesn't feel right..don't do it! I was going to have a friend from school/work over for coffee on Friday but in her email she mentioned her DD has been in hospital with really bad tonsilitis...so I'm not doing coffee now!!!
-
Hi girls, just a quick post at this point - I hope it's still cool that I join this thread even though Mr. Jacob wasn't earthside until the 11.03.09?????
Hello to MeggieMoppit, Holly and Ellie - sorry if I've missed anyone new, I haven't read the whole thread, just skimmed parts of it.
Just wanted to let you know that we got home from hossy last evening. It is so good to be home and I know I slept better (although maybe not longer) because I was dreaming last night again.
I found my birth experience to be pretty overwhelming and every day has been a bit like 'day 3' since. Of course I would do it all again and would not have made any different decisions and there is lots and lots of positive stuff but I still can't even read what Pat posted in the other thread without crying. I will get around to the full story at some point because it might help me process it.
Anyway - love and hugs to you all!! I hope you're all having 'good' days. I'm off for an afternoon nap as Jacob just went down himself.
-
AJP - Will have to go and have a read.
Ellie- Sounds like your DH is a dream. Mine would do the same if he wasn't at work. The only thing is that I still won't sleep if I think I can hear her.
Det - Sounds like a growth spurt.
Ali- It is hard when the family leaves.
I tried to settle E in her cradle today. Using all the self settling techniques. She cried on and off hysterically for an hour. I think I cried just as much as her. It is the first teary I have had since she was born. To top it off, J howled when I dropped him at childcare and clung to my leg. That also upset me.
E is still SO GASSY. I think that is waking her up. Today when i was trying to settle her and watching her, I can see that she fights sleep. She would be almost there, then startle back awake.
Just feeling very teary today........
-
hi kaz! I'm here if you need to chat or debrief at all!
Ali, J takes the bottle pretty well but won't drink as much or for as long.
Just back from 4w check and J is still Little Miss Average - 50th %ile for everything! 4.15kg and 52.5cm so she is doing really well. She has an umbilical granuloma so we need to go to the GP and have it burnt off :(
-
-
Kaz- SO good to see you in here hun. You know that we are always here to talk to and to debrief to. Hpe you got a good arvo nap while Jacob is sleeping. Does he sleep and feed well?
Nai- Ash was 52.5cm at birth!!!! She has long limbs like her daddy though. I am not sure what an umbilical granuloma is but I hope it gets better. Hopefully it will be over so quickly. Maybe post a thread on it to find out some more info or anyone else whose bub has had to have this.
Det- I find the 2hour feeds a nightmare. It feels like you just finish, settle them and fall asleep and then your back up again. Hope that when DH gets home you can have a chance to put your feet up.
Meggie- You are doing a good job hun. DD is very gassy as well. She lets some rippers fly at times!!! Not sure how long they are gassy for, I have heard of something called infacol??? I am not sure from what age you can use it but its for wind. Someone else might know more.
Ellie- Good idea to cancel that coffee date if her DD has got tonsilitis. You and bubs def dont need that!!
AFM- Gave DD a bath. I decided her bath days can be Tuesday and Friday as thats what I did last week. Trying to get myslef into a routine more than her so I can keep things under control on the home front. I would love bath time to be something that DP can do but it is hard when he is at work.
Speaking of baths, I had one last night while mum and dad were looking after DD. Oh it was nice!!! I have been having heaps of showers but it is not the same as lying in the bath!
-
Hi girls,
Typing one handed. DD doesn't want to sleep unless I am holding her. Maybe I need to put her in the baby carrier again... did that this morning, worked well.
We also went to the MCHN today... seems to have been the day for it!
Little miss porky has stacked on another 570g in two weeks, she's now up to 4.7kg or 10lbs 8oz! She's sitting on the 90th percentile for weight... and she has had a massive growth spurt, she's now 57.5cm long, which puts her on the 95th percentile for length!! :o
Head circ she's only on the 25th percentile though, the nurse said she has a long head, not round.
So that's really good, probably explains why she's been so unsettled the last couple of days too, all day/evening she just wants to feed and cuddle. The last couple of nights she's been feeding every 2hrs too so that has left me exhausted.
DH tries to settle her but she just seems to want to sleep on my chest...
The MCHN also thinks I might have thrush... not nipple thrush like AJP but just the standard type, "down there" (sorry TMI) I was talking about the ABs and my epi getting infected and she said it doesn't sound like its infected again, its not painful, just smelly, it might be thrush. So I'm going to try a cannestan type thing... see if that helps.
She did say to watch out for nipple thrush and also oral thrush in Isabel :(
I feel like it never ends... when will my body be 100% normal again???
AJP - great birth story :D Also, how do you know you have nipple thrush?
KAZ - HI! Sorry for the caps, just so excited to see you here :D Please take all the time you need to process... enjoy these first few weeks with Jacob, they pass so quickly. Each day might be long but the weeks run past quickly...
Nai - the granuloma sounds a bit ick. Hope it is ok when it gets burnt off. You asked about bleeding a while ago, mine has tapered off to a bronzey colour but I'm still wearing pads. Also - your cow comment - I am so glad someone else feels that way too!!!
Meg - Feeling teary is ok hun. We all feel teary every now and fthen... but you know your body and the warning signs, as Det said, if you feel those walls closing in, please say something. That's great that you are open to going back to North Park. Great hosp, they will look after you if that's what you need.
Also I know what you mean about fighting sleep. I cuddle Isabel until she is dead asleep, all heavy and relaxed, then try and sneak her into her cradle... at night its fine, but somehow during the day she fights it and wakes up after 5-10mins. So frustrating! They just need to learn I think...
Ellie/Ali (that's confusing LOL) - we are the same with germs, we have implemented a "no kissing the baby" rule, until she is at least 6 or 8wks old. They just have such an immature immune system at the moment... we don't want her catching anything that can be avoided!
Det - can I boycott MG until next week  Nah the rest of the mums are ok, thanks for letting me know, I'll miss you and Mr Boof!
Ali - about the cord/belly button, I found Isabel's bled a little bit too, the MCHN said that's fine, I just rubbed a bit of the bottom balm I use onto it. It has cleared up now. Also, Isabel still has patches of dry skin now... but they are getting better.
Holly - I know what you mean! I'm a bit blocked up at the moment too. I'm taking Benefibre, maybe get onto that? It doesn't taste and dissolves really well, unlike fibugel. My bum hurt yesterday too - though I had a haemorrhoid (ew) but it has gone now. We have to believe it gets better!!!!
Laura, how are the BBs today?? Hope you are feeling better.
I think that's everyone... sorry for the mammoth post!
-
And the cluster feeding begins...
-
Cluster feeding begins here too!
Nai 0 J had an unbilical granuloma. He ended up having it till 18 months and had to go under general and have it cut out. They burn it with Silver nitrate. It doesn't seem to hurt them though.
Had more tears this arvo. I feel like I am being so short with J. Then I feel like he is missing out on his mummy
-
welcome back kaz!!! make sure you debrief hun, it really helps
millies been so unsettled today..
BBL DH home...
-
Meg- It so hard trying to juggle a newborn and toddler on top of being sleep deprived plus the guilt we feel with our toddlers doesn't help. Em does the same with sleep, just drifts off then jumps awake, drives me mad, have you tried a dummy with E?
OP- Isabel is going great it sounds like. As for when your body gets back to normal... never! My bum spreads more after each child, lol.
Ali- It is hard when your supports leave, just try be confident with yourself and know you can get thru each day. I guess the lonliness also plays a big part. Your new mums group will be good when its organised, plus us on here. You could even look up playgroups australia and find one in your area.
Kaz- Great to see you, take your time with your story, its a huge thing and you need to work thru it in your head. How are you feeling? How is settling in at home going? Does your DH have time off work?
Nai- Ash had a granuloma, got it burnt off at GP no probs, not painful or anything.
Ellie- Your DH sounds great! Mine been pretty good, even tho he doesn't help at night he has to do the cooking and cleaning instead!
Laura- How yr Dr appt go? Hope its not mastitis.
AJP- I forgot to ask how you went with DH back at work. Only main prob I find is when Em wants a feed when Ash is hungry can't feed both at once!
Well I hope we all have better nights, Em not too bad over night its just takes til 10-11pm to settle her for the night.
She bit snotty today so can't breath properly when feeding and she also been chucking after every feed, keep thinking what a waste of my good milk!
-
Megiemoppit- i hear you about being short with older kids- i have been yelling at my ferals for days now- poor thing- but seriously THEY ARE NOT LISTENING TO ME!!!!!!!
Ok i feel better now! I just keep reminding myself that my patience is thin due to lack of sleep- i really need to pick my battles rather than just jumping on them everytime they are out of line. I guess i am so worried about things getting out of control, that i am overcompensating by putting out spotfires as soon as they start- if that makes sense! I really wish there was some magic advice i could give you to get bubs to sleep better. Levi tends not to sleep for more than an hour during the day, but goes at least 3 hourly overnite. We got an electric swing that i can put him in, and he has fallen asleep in that for a bit- might be worth thinking about. We also have a bouncer for him as well, he sits in it, but wont sleep in it! I find that the place that he sleeps the longests during the day is the pram- so maybe try that as well. Pack up bubs in the pram and go to greensborough shopping centre and just grab a cuppa!!! If you want I can meet you there - i am not far away!! Just dont let those wall close in around you!!!
Also if bubs is gassy, what about some telephone book under the cot so that it is on an angle- might help is she is not laying flat! Also she might be happy in a sling ?? I have a bubba sling and Levi falls asleep in 2 secs flat in it and i can still move around and at least do some things!
OP- WHOOT on Isabel's weight gain- that is awesome. I must have crossed paths with you today again! I was there as well. Hey if you are bored yell out and I can meet you round Monty for a cuppa- hanging to try Cherry Red's special- bacon and egg roll and a cuppa!! Say Hi to the other girls as well for me!
Your body will be back to normal soon hon- just starting to feel back to normal about2 weeks ago- so you should start to feel better soon. I was on Benefibre up until then as well- but it does go back to normal- this week back to old patterns again! LOL. I got the bum pains as well- like a sharp pain - its the bowel going back to its proper size slowly!!
AJP- that was an awesome birth story- well done hon!! well written as well.
Kazz- Hey there- welcome back!! We have all missed you! So glad that everything is going OK with you! You always said you would go last and you did! Hey it would be interesting to go over our predictions for things again and see how many of them actually occurred!!!
Elli/Ali- lol i am the opposite with germs. Although i dont go near people that know that they are sick, I have half the kids class with their head in Levi's face everyday touching him lol- so hey what can i do!! I figure that if he is gonna get something, he will get it from my older two anyway. The dog sniffs him as well!!! I am more worried about Levi catching Nits from the other kids, than their germs!!! But hey you have to do what you feel comfortable with and what works for you girls!! A way to stop people from Manhandling bubs when they visit is to keep him asleep in the cot and they cant pick them up there!- or otherwise tell them that s/he is due for a big poo!!! Hope you dont mind crap on your clothes!!!!
Nai- great on J weight gain- that is great- bummer about the chord thingy- great that they can do it at the GP's but!!
All going good here- Levi unsettled still - must have been garlic in something that i ate without realising it! But at this present moment in time- which i am going with - ALL MY KIDS ARE ASLEEP!!!!!!! Phew savouring the moment . . . . . .
hence the long post!
take care all and feed feed feed!!!!
mwah

:hello:
Wow you girls have been busy with the chats! having really bad memory day today, and had a 1001 comments to write but have forgotten them in the two pages I read .. What a goose I am!!
Welcome Kaz! agree with the debrief stuff, take your time hun.
Meg - we are here for you sweetie, keep sharing with us! - I hear you with the teary thing.
AJP - going to read the birth story (if the little man lets me).
Your all doing such a great job with your bubs!! :grouphug: Go girls go :cheer: :bluecheer:
AFM - rang the MCHN and I was right - I'd fallen between the cracks,DS was born interstate, and they hadn't been given my details. They will call me soon to arrange my first home visit. Mums and bubs group meets tomorrow and if I'm organised enough to get my butt there by 10.30am I'll go. Haven't even contemplated a 9am appointment yet (you girls are my heros for attending those ones!!)
Tried DS in the sling today (we have an ergo).. still need some finetuning - didnt' want to keep him in there too long as it was wide awake but on the restless side.. will try again tomorrow morning.
-

-
Hi All - hope you all had some sleep last night!! J went 11-3.15 and 3.30 - 6.45 so I did get some sleep. G had ballet this morning so we walked up there, then walked to CC and then walked back up the hill to Mum & Bub exercise class. It was my first class so took it very easy but it was great to get soem exercise in. J slept the whole time in her pram so I was rapt :D
-
No fair Nai - Send some sleepy vibes this way. Emilia slept 11:30 to 2:15, Fed again at 3am, and slept again till 6am. If I put her in bed with me, she sleep for 5 hours, but I really don't like cosleeping. So it looks liek she is going to be like her brother. (who incidentally woke at 5:30am!) Managed to get him to go back down till 8am though.
I think Emilia might have reflux. James had it as well. She is making the same reflux noise and swallowing noise that J did. So I might take her to the doctors.
Det - You always say such mice things. Thanks for the offer. I may just take you up on that.
Shell - She doesn't really like the dummy. Have been trying though.
DH is back at work, but I am lucky that he works locally, and just brings the ambulance home to help me out. Comes home mid morning, then in the afternoon if he can.
J didn't want to have a sleep today, but he had a nice quiet lie down for an hour in his room, now he is watching a DVD. I am going to take them to the park. Get some fresh air, and run James down a bit.
Had playgroup this morning. Nice to have some adult conversation. Tomorrow is swimming lessons. DH is taking J and I can have an hour to myself. Then mum is coming over in the afternoon. Might ask her to take J back to her house and I will pick him up Sunday, Again feel like I am fobbing off J, but he has a fgreat time there, and I will keep telling myself it won't be forever.
Not teary today. Actually feel much better. Will ahve to see how the afternoon pans out, but so far so good....
