Evening ladies and bubs
Sounds like all our bubs are being similar at the moment with the cluster feeding and unsettled periods! Except for the time of day when they occur... with Isabel it occurs early afternoon into the evening.
We're over at mum and dad's at the moment and my sister has her, she's been napping for small intervals and then wakes screaming, think she has a pain in the tum. I'm worried now that she's not getting enough of the hind milk... the MCHN said that if she feeds for only 5 mins on one side, she's only getting the foremilk. :dunno:
At least she doesn't have these unsettled periods at night time... although having said that she went down last night at midnight (after feeding for an hour, Isabel isn't the fastest feeder and does lots of comfort sucking) and woke again at 3am, then didn't go back to sleep til 5.30am. It wasn't like she wanted to be awake and party with us, she was screaming in pain. Poor chicken.
Ali - well done on your outing last night! Good effort with a week old bub. Hope your friends appreciated it :D
AJP - you'll have to show us the photos when they are done.
Det - lol @ your little porker :D Isabel is in 000 now, we've got some 0000 that still fits but not many :D
Nai - good work on the expressing! I might try it soon...
Hi to everyone else, Isabel is screaming again and I think its mum's turn... might need another feed...
op i feed one side the change bum and back on same side to make sure she gets the hindmilk!!
BBS going to get pic of millie taken the other day!......

im still here too!!
just busy...
I really dont know whether I am coming or going..... :( Sleep deprivation is starting to take its toll. i think in the last week I have had a total of 10 hours sleep all up. FInished birth certificate tonight so I can post it tomorrow and will try and ring family assistance tomorrow when my mum is here.
Will hopefully be able to think clearly tomorrow and post something a but more decent.
Well our usual unsettled period she is actually sleeping thru tonight, hope that doesn't mean she'll be unsettled later.
Ali- Yeah sleep deprivation is just awful thats why when you can put your feet up and nap when Ashlyn does.
AJP- very cute pic!
Det- I used to do that with Ash just feed for an hour, hard to do it as long with Em but try let her go for awhile when Df is around to watch Ash.
OP- when Em is windy, after a feed I just cuddle her upright for awhile to see if that helps, sometimes it does. Its horrible when they appear to be in pain. Also try the bending legs up and down and massage tummy.
We have our MCHN appt tomor at 9am! Too early for me, by time I feed, dress and organise the 3 of us its usually well into mid morning! Only appt time they had tho.
AJP - cute pic!
J has been a nightmare today :( She has barely slept for more than 10min at a time before she chucks or wakes crying. I couldn't get any rest either so I am shattered. She is doing my head in at the moment - I haven't left the house for 2 days :( Oh well at least it's just me and her tomorrow.
So now I have tried the dummy again - and she took it!!! She has been asleep for 15 minutes already - woohoo :D
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I do have a baby carrier, but haven't been able to get around to figuring it out - waiting for bubs to be a little more settled, but I think I'm going to have to tempt fate and just stuff him in it!
AJP - love the photo - the T-shirt idea seemed to work last night, had a much better night.
Have found that if I wait for DS to go into adeep sleep I can sneak him into the bassinette and he will not be disturbed - of course this is after about 1.5hrs to settle him to get to this point! he won't go to DH to settle him, poor DH only gets the nappy changes.
Shell - 9am! I didn't think there was such a time?! That's way too early to be organised and out the house. All the best for making it out of the house by then!
Ali - ur doing a great job
OP - I thought the hindmilk was the whiter milk? I thought it came in a lot quicker than that - for me it is in pretty quick coz I leak out most of the foremilk
Booby monster is awake.. take care girls!
Here's hoping we all get some sleep tonight!!!
Thanks for the advice girls...have managed to keep to a sleep, eat, play routine today and Miss A is currently awake staring into DH's eyes as I type this...maybe...just maybe she will realise it's 'night time' and sleep:)
i wasn't going to post in here until tomorrow evening but i need to ask something. has anyone had any problems with mastitis? i think i may have it but im not 100% sure. both of my boobs are sore and red underneath got a couple of lumps i have tried massaging in the shower but they are way too sore to touch so i cant really do much. and when bella feeds it almost kills me its like i can feel the milk passing through the sore bits... if that makes sense.
Ouch Laura.
Dunno about mastitis as i havent had it before - it could be blocked ducts? I think mastitis is accompanied with flu like symptoms where as blocked ducts is localised pain!
either way the only cure for both is you have to keep draining them for it to clear!
A/biotics also are given for mastitis
keep hand massaging and getting bella to suck her little heart out to drain those boobies- you can have some panadol or panadeine to help with the pain and that might give you some relief whilst you drain them!
let the shower hit where it is sore to massage them and use your hands to push the milk free towards your nipples!
hang in there hon- !!
to prevent it as much as you can from happening again- keep the massage in the shower up daily at least! unblock them before they have a chance to totally block up again!
mwah and ouchie
selfish post here i think i have nipple thrush oh the burning :(
Yep - Laura keep draining the milk out of the sore breast first. The shower should help too. Mastitis usually has flu like symptoms - hot and cold sweats etc. so it is probably blocked ducts at the moment.
AJP - I haven't had nipple thrush before - how can you tell if you have it?
I had a reasonable night last night - feed at 10.30pm, 3am, 6.15am and sleep in between so I am feeling better than yesterday. DD2 got her chart made up yesterday and we got her off to CC with hair brushed, teeth brushed and clothes on with no tantrums. Let's see if it works for bath and bed tonight :crossfingers:
Also (sorry TMI) is anyone else still bleeding? I'm still getting small amounts each day and a bit more each time I BF. I know it's just my uterus contracting but I'm sure it had stopped by now last time and not sure how long it is meant to go on for :dunno:
thanks girls im going to see my midwife today. nai im still bleeding too only small amounts also. with my first pregnancy i only bled for 2 weeks!
laura i hope you havent got mastitis
nai nipples are burning, weird sensation, just went and got some probiotics for millie and stuff for my nipples. she didnt feed well this morning.
glad the sticker chart is working!! sophie was atually ok last night and didnt wake during the night either
we had a good night! fed at 8pm down at 9pm then fed at 2am and 5.45am then 8.30!
bleeding mine has pretty much stopped, just really light and its sort of yellow  not sure why, maybe its mucos but only need liners, maybe i bled it all out when i haemorrgaed!!
Terrible night here last night. Basically up since 3am. Also I am starting to feel anxious again, I am worried I will end up with PND like last time. Deep breaths.... Probably anxious coz I am tired.
off to playgroup now
Laura - Hope you don't have mastitis...but get on the antibiotics if you do...can make you very sick!
AJP - Hope the burning settles.
Meggie - I am so impressed that you are going out! I'm happy to just have a shower and get out of the pj's...you are amazing!
Well I lost it last night...so damn tired...ended up going to bed and DH did everything last night...just bought Anika to me when she needed a feed...bless him! He's totally stuffed today but now realises how full on it is. Feel like I could sleep for a week and still be tired...and my right boobie is about to explode lol! Sitting here with the ice pack on...ahhhhh....relief! And my c section scar is really sore...think it's because Miss A is getting chunkier...and lugging her around a bit too much. Sorry for the vent...seems like we're all dealing with similar stuff which is comforting :)
Meg- I know being sleep deprived wouldn't help the anxiety at all. Plus worrying about getting PND again prolly will also make you that little more anxious. Take one day at a time, does J have day sleeps still so you can rest?
AJP- Hope you sort out the thrush soon, Has Millie got it in her mouth also?
Nai- Yep still bleeding, mainly after feeding but its not fully just blood its more a watery type blood. yay on dummy working, Ash never took one but I thought this child I need to get to take cause I just can't have her on the boob constantly.
Laura- Don't know about the mastitis but sounds like the girls have given some good advice. Hope you get it sorted.
Ellie- How is everything going today? Did she settle at a reasonable hour last night? ETA: we posted same time, hope you got some sleep, sounds like hugs in order! How does she sleep in the day? Try sleep when she does.
Tarkine- yep stuff him in the carrier! I find Em falls asleep the best when being carried and helps you able to do things still.
Em had her 2 week MCHN appt today, silly me thought was 9am but was actually 9:30 so had to wait around. Anyways she has put on an average of 32 grams a day which nurse was happy with. All looking good so at least I know she is feeding well.
Ellie - Sounds like we are feeling the same atm. I am trying to take Det's approach. It is a phase and I will get through it.
I have not been teary or emotional whatsoever this time, but after such a horror night last night, it has made me anxious. Still I am better than I was last time so far, as last time, I wouldn't have been able to get out the door let alone to playgroup. Also we had visitors Sat and Sun. The Sat ones didn't go home till after 11pm, and the Sun ones arrived at 11:30am and didn't go home till 7pm, so I am prob a bit fatigued from that also. I am going to keep posting about how I am going, as it seems to help me to get it all out, so sorry girls, you will have to deal with my ramblings for a while.
Anyway better go. I am going to go wake Emilia to feed. Still trying to get her to feed more during the day and less at night. It is a catch 22 though. wake her up, as she will get upset and not want to g back down....
Hi Girls,
Feeling much better today. I went to bed so early last night and just woke up for Ashlyn's feeds. She definitely has this pattern of cluster feeding between 4am and 8pm. I just can not get her back to sleep after the 4am feed. I fed her at 8pm, 10:30pm, 1:30am then 3:30am. During the day her feeds are stretched out much longer (at least 3 to 3.5hrs) apart but at night she just seems to sleep for shorter periods.
I have another woohoo for today as well!!! I got out my pre-preg jeans and they fit!!! I feel a bit muffin topish but I still get them done up and it feels nice to wear them.
Now for some personals as I have been so selfish the last few days.
Jols- Millie is so gorgeous. Which BB member did the photos? They are very talented! She has more hair than I remember from the last photo you put up. SO cute!!!! I am not sure what nipple thrush is but  for you as it sounds unpleasant.
Shell- GOod work on the early start. I bet the MCHN thought you were super organised being early as I am sure most women turn up late! (She doesnt have to know that you thought it was half an hour earlier than what the appointment was :) ).
Laura- I hope you dont have mastitis either. THe symptoms I id get told to watch out for were similar to what you described but also accompanied with flu like symptoms. Maybe take a trip to the doctors. Also a big :hooray: on becoming an Aunty again! How lovely that Bella will have a cousin around her age to grow up with!
Ellie- I am glad that your DH was supportive and helped you out for the night. I am sure he has an even greater appreciation of what caring for a newborn is like now. Remember jsut to ask for help when you need it
Meggie- Please remember to come in here for support anytime you need it, vent and breathe and remember we are always here for you hun
Nai- I am not doing to badly on the bleeding, in fact even straight after birht I didnt bleed much at all. I am thinking maybe the RLT had something to do with it. I do remember them telling me that you can bleed for up to 5-6weeks but it should be changing colour (like it does with a period) and if you are getting any clots then see the doctor. I really feel for you girls who had c-sections and have 2 areas that need to recover. Big  to you. Awesome that DD1 has been cooperating for you. Hope that she keeps it up.
Tarkine- I am to scared to use my sling as well! LOL! Scared I am going to use it wrong and that DD wont be able to breathe properly or fall out.
I cant see back any further or remember anything else than that so I am sorry to those of you I have missed.
AFM- Ashlyn has some really dry skin all over body. I have been putting natural insticts baby massage oil on her but it is stil there. She has only had 2 baths since being born (1wk) so I dont think I am drying out her skin by over bathing her. Is there anything else that I should use or should I bath her more? Was supposed to hear back from the MCHN today so they can tell me when they are coming this week but am still waiting to hear back.
Ali, J had the really dry skin too but it has pretty much all gone now. It is actually better to bath them less as washing dries them out more. I am only bathing J more regularly now as her skin is not dry and flaky anymore.
Megie, feel free to vent here - I'm not surprised you feel tired after all those visitors!! I hope they did some housework for you while they were there!
Ellie, how nice to get DH to do all the work :D I have DP giving J some expressed milk at the moment to give my poor boobies a break. Have you stopped taking pain medication? I found that I noticed my scar pain a bit more once I stopped taking it and then realised that was why - I was actually feeling it instead of having the medication masking it.
Shell, sounds like Miss Em is doing very well. I have my 4 week appointment tomorrow - I can't believe it's already 4 weeks!!!
We are having our usual unsettled time, slept well today up til 3:30 and has only catnapped and cluster fed since, she won't stay asleep longer than 20mins. As long as she settles before I want to sleep!
bit hard typing one handed
FAK = feeding at keyboard!!
nai i hear you on the 4 weeks! hard to believe isnt it!!
meg iknow how you feeel i had PND last time but so far so good!!
ali millie is unsettled after the predawn feed too, she is also dry and pimply! i was in just water or i add olive oil to the bath.
shell hope emily settles soon for you,
millie is still asleep has been since around 5pm and im wanting to go to bed!!
ellie sounds like dH is lovely!!
Nai - yep I'm still bleeding at the moment - expecting it to go for up to 6-8 weeks. Was told to contact midwife if it becomes bright red.
AJP - nipple thrush ouchie
Meg - I hear you on the visitor thing - I find it more tiring with visitors.
Ellie - Great to hear that DP was able to give you a break.
Laura - hope its not mastitis
AFM - DS has settled a lot, so will now go down at night, but has been catnapping during the day and still clingy unless I wait until he is absolutely zonked out and then I can put him down.
Am still numb from the c-section that is bellybutton below, so I can't feel my c-section.
What are you girls doing for night time feeds and nappy changes?
DS goes through the huggies like anything. Plus its starting to get cold here (will be down to minus at night time) and I don't want to have to heat the whole house all night just to change bubs bum and feeding, was just going to do it all in our bedroom.
tarkine in winter we have the heater set to come on once it gets down to 16 degrees, i wear a dressing gown so just wrap DD up in that as i feed. i feed int he lounge!
glad to hear alex is settleing for you!
She's asleep for the moment!
Tarkine- I feed in bed and have a towel and nappies at end of bed to change her in the night, barely have to move! I feed one side, quickly change her (she screams!) then feed other side til she falls asleep. I just try and do it quickly.
AJP- Quite like the FAK, think its gonna catch on.
Ali- I only bath twice a week and I put sorbolene on her daily, Em still is quite dry, has the flaky skin.
Meg- Hope you sort out the feeding, how often does she feed in the day compared to night?
Funny to think of you girls with 4 week olds or more when Em just had her 2 week check, your twice ahead!
Ok crying again, she is interupting desperate housewives!
Ali- put some olive oil in bubs bath- it works a treat - helps put moisture back into the skin. Levi's feet lost skin about a week after being born- he was like a snake and the skin just went flaky- apparently its quite common- we just did what you were doing as well- it settled down after a week or so!
Nai- my bleeding lasted around 2 weeks - however today noticed a tiny bit of blood today ( i am 6 weeks on). Same thing happened with the twins- around 4-6 weeks it came back a little bit, but then I didnt get AF till twins were 9 months old so i was happy with that!
Well done on getting back to your pre-preggie jeans. I was lucky enough that i must have lost weight when i was pg- as i am thinner now that i have been for ages- i actually went out to buy a new top today and bought one from target in a size 14!! and it was in the normal size people clothing dept. OMG i havent been a size 14 in anything since i was 12 years old!!! and my big boobs even looked go in it lol! My pre -preggie jeans are now baggy on me- the hard part now is keeping the weight off and loosing more! I allready had a muffin top from the twins-actually come to think of it, i had a muffin top before i had the twin lol
Megimott- please keep on talking to us about how you feel- if you are starting to feel like the walls are closing in- please tell us and we will hound you until you see someone- we dont want you to get in that black hole again!!!! That is what we are here for
Tarkine- i hadnt use my sling until today- i got it out as levi was a bit unsettled and i am on my own with all the ferals tonite. It was actually easier than i thought. Just popped him in it and he fell asleep in two secs flat- nearly collected his head 3 times lol so have to get use to that- i have a bubba sling btw! He is so much bigger now than last time i had a look at the sling and he fits so much better- so maybe wait a couple more weeks and see how you go as well!
Whoot Shell on Em's weight gain- it is so reasurring to know that she is putting on weight and your body is making enough milk for her- well done!!! And well done for getting out the house at 9am- its hard to- but i acutally find that getting out earlier means i get more done- less sleep mind you lol. I have to be out by 8.45 for the kids for school. Levi then falls asleep and i got out!! Today i went and had a pedicure whilst he slept in his pram besides me- lol what a considerate little man lol
Laura- how are your bb's today- hopefully a bit better today! hang in there hon!!
AFM- going to health centre for 6 week weigh in tommorow- levi has gotten huge so will be interested to see how much he has put on and grown! Noticed today that he has developed a stork mark on the back of his neck- lol i had never heard of them until today so there we go! I booked his c/cision in for the 22 may- i am soo aprehensive about it and scared- seeing my OB who will be doing it next week for my 6 week check up so will find out more about it then!
OP- dont think i will be able to make it to MGroup wednesday- DH has to work at this stage grrrr!! Damm
Mwah to all
Evening all,
Having a real crappy time at the moment :( My nipples are really sore and sensitive, I'm constipated (sorry tmi) and my bum hurts!! Leon is really grizzly and just won't settle unless in my arms and he is having wind pains at both exits.
Back for personals tomorrow...so tired. Pray that I have a good night tonight
sorry quick selfish post bella is having a monster baby night.. saw midwife and she said that she wasn't sure coz i didn't have the temp/flu symptoms everything else was pointing to it though. but now i am feeling pretty crappy been having migraines all day and now feel like i have a head cold i still dont have a temp though. am going to make an app at the doctors tomorrow just to find out if it is a blocked duct or mastitis. will catch up tomorrow hope u all have a good night xx
Laura - hope you get some relief.
Holly - you sound like you are having a hard time. Do you have lots of support? have you seen a lactation specialist?
AFM - THe only way that Miss E would sleep last night was in the middle of our bed. I really don't like cosleeping, but it is the only way to get any sleep. I keep worrying that it will start a habit and that I will never get her out of the bed. My arms hurt from having to sleep strange, and I get cold as my top half is pretty much uncovered as I worry the blankets will end up over her head. I am thinking if I still feel how I do in a week, I am going to self check myself back into Northpark.
Sorry selfish post but :grouphug: to everyone.
I am so sad today. My mum and stepdad (who is such a great dad to me) left to go back to QLd today. They have helped us so much and have been the most wonderful support. I miss them so much already :( (tears) It has been so nice to have them here and be in their company. I am not scared to be myslef or anything like that, I just really liked them being around and found it so comforting. (more tears).
Ashlyn has been lovely...she slept much better last night. Fed at 6:30pm, 10pm, 2am, 4am and 6:15am. She didnt really go back to sleep after 6:15am but I avoided cluster feeding her as I had mum here to help settle her.
Thankyou all for the tips on bathing and the dry skin. Good to know about most of them suffering from this and that it will go away. What do you mean by using olive oil in the bath?? Is there a special type? Can I jsut use QV oil?
Also I got given a heap of J&J bath products at my baby shower but I dont want to use them. DO you think if I took them back to Target or Kmart they would exchange for something else? I dont know whre my friends got them but I dont have the receipt and I know that they sell them.
Also another important question about caring for the belly button....now that the chord is off, how do I clean it? It is still kind of bleeding. not constnatly I just noticed a bit of dried blood on her clothes.
Thanks in Advance.
Hope you are all well. ANother :grouphug: for everyone.
 Ali, it's hard when your support leaves but you will be just fine - have you been contacted re: joining a parents group by your MHCN or the like? That is also a great support network. Maybe Woolworths or Coles will take the J&J stuff back or exchange it for Gaia products?
Megie, I'm the same - I don't really want J sleeping with us all the time but she sleeps so well in between us that I get more rest (but I also get a sore arm as I cradle her with it - maybe DP and I can swap sides each night to even it out).
Laura, I hope your pain gets better.
We had Miss J being very unsettled from 8-11pm when she was grizzly and feeding constantly. DP gave her 40ml of expressed milk and she drank it but then wanted more from the breast. She sucked constantly for an hour in bed from 10-11 which wasn't fun! On the up-side she slept from 11pm - 4am so I got 5 hours uninterrupted sleep - woohoo!!! Then back to sleep from 4.30 - 7.45am so I feel almost human. Better go and express again before her next feed... I feel like a cow
Ooops double post
Nai- When you express, does she take from the bottle just as well as she does from the breast or does it affect the way that she suckles? I havnet expressed at all as I am worried about getting an over supply or that it will stuff up our feeding.
I need to call the MCHN as they were supposed to call me back to arrange a visit for this week and they havent. Good idea about swapping sides with DP. I am sure he wont mind.
I have been really productive today surprisingly. I have done 2 loads of washing and hung it out, left DD with DP and went to coles to get a couple of things, made the bed (even though I am sure I will be in it this arvo) and am about to make lunches for DP and I (hopefully before Ashlyn wakes up). I have so many thank you card to write and I want to ring family assistance this avo after Ashlyn's next feed, however if I dont get round to it today I will do it tomorrow.
Just a quick one
went to health centre today
levi is now 11pd 9oz- 5.292kg
what a boof
he fed every two hours overnite so bit tired today- he has a pain in the stomach- so massaging him heaps which seems to help clear it- IYKWIM! Had Rattatouie the other nite and dont think he liked it lol
gotta keep moving or i will fall asleep zzzzzz
mwah to all
Oh I love my Dh...all I had to do again last night was feed Miss A...he did all the nappies, settling etc...and I slept...feel a million bucks this morning! Fed at 9pm, 1am, 5am, 9am....spreading out to 4 hourly feeds...is that ok??? She is getting so heavy! Just wondering...how do you all deal with other people visiting and wanting to hold bub? I am having some sort of 'bug paranoia' and don't want anyone near her...all caused from the whooping cough outbreak here...but feeling so paranoid! Any advice would be great! Ex
just did my birth story finally
https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...ml#post1708506
BBS for personals
Ellie- I feel the same way as you with visitors. I dont even want to take Ashlyn to the shops with all the outbreaks of it as well. I also have some teacher friends from work who want to come and visit but I am worried that they may have some sort of bugs from the kids.
Jols- great sory hun
