Wow Liebling! He's moving up on the world! El is so close to crawling now!
yippee kirsten so so excited for you ADIOS!
michelle do you let bella go for gold with her food and get it everywhere?? for a while I let Jemima do that and she ate more food that way feeling it and sucking it off her fingers..... so could work??
jemima had strawberries and pumpkin scones the other day at my friends mum's place it was so cute, my friends mum had set the table like a hightea "so jemima knows what to do when she goes to hightea" so sweet and jemima loved it all, so funny watching her discover the flavour of the strawberry!
catherine - jemima is close to crawling as well! she loves to "walk" holding my fingers, she goes forward though?? what do you mean Ryn when you say pubert goes backwards??? so slow the "walking" when she is doing it herself or wants to that is going to be frustrating!
she has had a funny day today, but still happy as larry.... just a bit spewy and drowsy she has a bit of a cold i think snot everywhere and i'm sure some more teeth are coming through the RIVER of drool has returned.... i cant believe i didnt really notice that it wasnt there.... but now it is back i am remembering what she was like before her other teeth came through.
i am sick at the moment too so maybe she got that?? i feel like crap my head hurts and has all day but still dragged our butts to swimming lessons and the vege shop she spewed on me JUST as i finished dressing us after swimming and at the vege shop HO HUM i am so glad i dont have spew everyday, it's smelly!
Hi all,
We are back in the land of the living - YAY!! Monkey is doing a bit better with the poo (still not great and GP has recommended Coloxyl and prunes for next 2 wks at least....), but MUCH better with the sleeping thing!! She just doesn't seem to be having the screaming tummy pains anymore... so glad, it was awful to watch her going through it.
Your babies are all soooo clever!! Monkey is no where near walking or crawling (what a slack physio I am... getting babies to walk is what I do for a living! ....actually I don't mind, don't have to think about proofing the house yet!) Enjoy walking with them holding hands, 'cos soon you won't be able to keep up with them!!
Michelle, I really slowed down Monkey's food progression with this whole constipation thing and my GP said that there's really no stress to progress them quickly..... if you are happy just with veges and fruit then stick with it until Bella wants more. We are still doing just a wide variety of veges (all that you mentioned plus have you considered peas, corn, spinach, cauliflower, butternut squash....?). Monkey also has pear, apple, prunes and avocado - I think I got that idea from Lisa and she luuurves it! I also have cooked and blended up some wholemeal pasta, just to have a variety.
I think we'll start some meat soon - does anyone have any hints... for types, cooking methods etc....?
Ryn, I love your ideas for finger foods! Monkey has just started having some rusks to slobber on, think I'll expand the choice.....
Kel, I hope you got photos of high tea and strawberries - I'll bet it was gloriously messy!!!.... Going back to a comment you made ages ago..... Is Jemima still wanting less BF? I have just recently found the same thing with Monkey - it really surprised me at first, but then I read your post and felt better! Often, she is virtually dropping a feed in the middle of the day, or at least going 6 hrs or so.... I'm just running with it, because I am starting work on a Sat soon and it'll suit us if she doesn't "need" me so much. I hope you are both feeling better soon. Monkey has had a snotty nose too the past few days... it's her 1st ever; luckily it doesn't seem to bother her too much.
And Lisa, thanks for your words of wisdom about Monkey wanting Daddy more... it helped me to see it differently and not get so upset.
:bedtime: Night all....
(I'm having fun expanding my smylie repitoir.... so not how you spell that word, but you all know what I mean!!!)
Kel, Lieby walks backwards in that he'll hold onto my fingers (so cute when they do that!) and take his steps backwards. He now looks over his shoulder to see to where he is headed! He's well quick on the walking, I walk along with him on my knees and am moving constantly to keep up. So pleased he hasn't learnt how to use the sofa to walk!
I'm going to do some lamb in the slow cooker on Sunday and let Lieby have some chunks of lamb for his dinner, see if he likes it. He is a proper meat-eater when he's had the jars, so he should be OK with it. Hmm, that will mean starting to give him full meals soon - meat, carb and vegies. Good thing he loves his food!
michelle - go the avo! i just remebered that was one thing and the baby yogurt that jemima really enjoyed tasting.... only now that she has mastered the art of TAKING HER FINGERS OUT OF HER MOUTH WHEN I ASK HER TO am i going to mix it up a little more.... i have been just waiting til she is eating then i was going to worry about variety
hey kym - jemima seems to have days where she wants FOOD and days she wants BF in the last week i think she has alternated, and then yesterday she was sick so when we did BF she fed to sleep so i have a feeling it was a comfort thing and she had a late 'lunch' at 3pm and then dinner at about 6pm that she really ATE ................ i didnt think food would 'replace' BF so quickly but seems to be, just make sure to give Monkey HEAPS of water and on the days you can tell she wants more FOOD then BF I have been trying to get more yogurt into Jemima so that she is still getting calcium... i just figure that would be the main thing not in apple or pumpkin etc
Ryn have you tried pubert on cheese??? i am worried about jemima getting a chunk of that off but would love to be able to give her a stick of cheese..... what do you think? she did awesome with the strawberry and scone so maybe she is ready?
oh yeah with meat........... kym..... this so annoying but funny............. my hubby doesnt want jemima having steak til she can bite into it..... she can have pork and chicken and whateva else before but he wants jemima to ENJOY her first steak.... i married a weirdo........ i gave jemima some of the tin food that has 'meat' in it but now i realise it was just flavour not actual meat? she lapped it up though i think i gave her chicken and mixed veges, it looked gross but she actually liked it.
today in celebration of me losing 5kg by myself i am going to a day spa, i'm getting body scrub, aromotherapy massage and deluxe pedicure BRING IT ON, benji is excited i think to have a couple of hours with jemima and he is also excited that i am finally treating myself to a break, so the EBM is in the fridge ready to go..... pity my head hurts so bad but i think that means i will relax even easier (and probably fall asleep) (ps - lost another .5kg this week so that means since the day before Jemima was born the scales have dropped 15kg!)
HAVE AN AWESOME WEEKEND EVERYONE
it is so cool that everyone seems to be happy at the moment!
oh and to everyone that was sick of hearing how great jemima was at sleeping at 5weeks, this will make you all feel better............. for the last month but I didnt realise it was everynight jemima has been waking every 5 hours i go to bed late so mostly it was like just one wake up at 3am BUT she has changed the timings so now we have a 11.30 and 4am! LUCKILY i have the best hubby in the whole world and he usually goes and gets her and coz i am BFeeding he just pops her on so i can usually sleep through it, but still!!!
anyone got any hints as to why???? I was blaming FOOD...... maybe she is growing? it is always though for a feed not coz she is cold and very consistantly 5 hours used to be EXACTLY 3am....
Hi everyone :hello:
Kirsten - I hope you all have a fantastic time in Spain... I can't wait to see the pics!!!
Kel - Harry wakes at 11:30pm and again at 4am... it feels like we've just gone off to sleep when he wakes... he basically just wants to get into bed with us and be cuddled... but some mornings, he gets in with us and pokes our eyes, and puts his fingers up our noses... he wants to play!!! lol. I hope you have a great time at the spa
Kym - Harrison has all kinds of meats... he HATES anything in a can, we tried him on some the other day to see if he changed his mind, he opened his mouth, and spat it everywhere, then threw a major hissy fit!!! It was soooooo funny. The ECHN said to us, what do you prefer? Meals in a can, or the same meal home made? Well... I have always homemade my childrens foods, but thought I'd give the can a try... I slow cook beef, and serve that up for him - if we have a stew, he eats that, I just water the gravy down more for him... I poach chicken for him, he has also had stir fried chicken, he loves fish, wrapped in foil and cooked in the oven... he eats lots of that actually. His fave food right now is kids weet bix!!! He eats 2 for breakfast!!!
Catherine - Yay to El being better :confetti: that must be such a relief to you. I am sure El will want some more solids before you know it... as my ECHN said, it is about the offering also.
Ryn - Be very glad that Liebling doesn't sofa walk... my little "grab onto anything and walk along it" bubba is getting into EVERYTHING!!! It is great that he is progressing, but it would be nice to have him stay in the one place for a moment!!! He now crawls the length of the house, comes into the kitchen, pulls himself up onto the back of dining chairs and starts holding on and walking from chair to chair!!! He is so tiny and it looks funny because he is so small!!!
Hi to anyone I've missed ;)
Me - Well, I finally got around to buying a HAB for Harrison. And... we love it!!! OMG, I can't rave enough!!! We have a Baba sling also, but that was starting to get too much with Harry being so much bigger and heavier now... the HAB is brilliant... especially for my still sore pelvis and back... Harry was in it, facing out the other day whilst I did my shopping, and he had his hands on the trolley!!! It looked like he was pushing it. So many people commented on how contented and happy he looked in it.
James has carried him in it to... I am so annoyed that we waited so long to get one.... it was on my original "Things to purchase for the baby" list, but for some reason, it didn't get bought. I am just soooooooooo glad we have it now!!!
Oh... I forgot to mention... When Harrison eats anything now, he goes "Mmmmmmm" with every mouthful. It is the cutest thing ever!!!!
Thanks Lisa. I felt the same about my HAB. Wish I'd got one when I was pregnant. Oh well, got it when I really needed it so its all good. And Harrison, walking and crawling, gee, he's doing well!
And they say BF mums have bubs who wake heaps during the night. Piffle. My FF DD is waking up way too many times now. Not sure what to do. We just pop her dummy in and soothe her. Perhaps she wants some light or louder music. We have classical on softly. We'll get through it. I'm sure its just a phase.
Catherine - Harrison is FF, and he wakes up too... I am sure it is just a phase too, one of the many they go through!!! lol
what is a HAB? we have a baby bjorn which is awesome but STARTING to wonder if she is getting too heavy for me to carry her in it too much...
Kel its a HugABub. Long piece of fabric tied in a complicated (but easy to get the hang of) way to carry a baby. hug-a-bub baby carrier and baby sling australia if you'd like more info. They're brilliant. Used are around 50-100 bucks on ebay, and new are over 120 bucks.
I have a Kari-Me, which is almost identical to the HaB and I love it! It's so versitile, I love carrying Liebs on my hip when we go out and he loves it too - cuddle Mummy AND see what's going on all around! I'm not sure about the HaB, but if you google Kari-Me (there's just a dot com after it otherwise) then you can see the instruction book in .pdf format. DH loves carrying Liebs too.
Cheese, well, so far Liebs has only had a tiny bit of grated cheese on his risotto, which was a spoon-fed meal. I'm introducing dairy very, very slowly. I'm thinking a chunk of hard cheese would be a good way to go though.
Waking at night... I'm actually thinking because he's outgrown the sleeping bags and the new ones will hopefully come today, that's messing him up. He can't stretch out in a small one and when he kicks up all the covers go with him! So he's waking because of that. It was every 1-2 hours or so last night again, but he was in just covers and he's never been happy with that. But he's not hungry so he won't feed back to sleep. Still, at least DH was fishing last night so we could sleep in the big bed, a bit more comfortable for co-sleeping! He CAN self-settle to his classical music; I have some stuff especially to soothe and calm babies and make them sleep. I bought it over 2 years ago!
Hi there,
I'm Naomi, mum of Maddison born 27.02.07. Just looking to make contact with mums with babies of same age range to chat with and get advice, love to hear from you all.
Cheers
Naomi
Hi Naomi, welcome to BB and to our baby buddy group. You mean to say you aren't already swamped with unwanted, unsolicited advice from strangers on the street/in shops:)?
Hi Naomi :hello:
A huge welcome to the group!!! I look forward to getting to know you and Maddison better.
Kell - I just thought you'd like to know... I ordered Harrison the coolest TShirt today... it says "Harrison is a punk" !! Brilliant!!! Its on ebay... just do a search for Punk in Baby and Maternity... it is a personalised TShirt.
jemima just got "mum rocks" heheheheh i had some friends with me and they saw her choose it!
going to check out personalised shirts now..... keep talking about making my own tshirt transfers, i have the supplies and the ideas....... (going to make her a shirt that says NO DEAL) (deal or no deal was one of our fave feeding shows) (and she used to do the no deal action on the change table)
hi naomi - is maddison a 'good' baby? hehehe like they are old enough to be 'bad'... but you know what i mean???
today benji and i talked to minister about baptism, it was good and it is happening!!! at the prettiest church in december when my brother gets back from all the exotic places he is going (last week he was in amazon jungle, this week in the dessert in peru)
jemima off the boob again today!!??? my boobs are killing me, i expressed one feed but i think all day she has only had 2 bfeeds and 3 meals (and they were daddy meals where she doesnt get near as much in her) mummy had a great time at the day spa except that boobs hurt when lieing on belly for bodyscrub and massage, but sorted that with a rolled up towel for support.......
maybe the no milk thing has to do with when benji is home?? she went off last weekend too...... but then on and off all week.......
has anyone else got HEAPS bigger boobs after baby, I mean stupid bigger? and those of you that are not breastfeeding anymore do they go down heaps after you stop?
Kel - Mine have only just started to go down now... I've always had bigger boobs though (14DD)... but Harrison likes to smooch up to my boobs and keep my milk supply just there by having a few sucks every now and then... He completely stopped about a fortnight ago... now my boobs feel... its hard to explain, softer I guess... kinda like squishy too... after having engorged boobs and having to express for relief, and also having a sucking baby, to him self weaning, there was still a good supply of milk, now nothing... so thats why they feel very different now... I guess this is how they felt pre Harrison, I just don't remember... thankfully they're not saggy!!! lol
Kel, I was a 10B just before getting pregnant but before that I was 12C. Now I'm 14B. Nice to have cleavage. Except the big bum and thighs I could do without.
And welcome to Naomi. Feel free to brag and vent frustration. :grouphug:
Hi thanks for the welcome...
Well first a bit about us. Maddi was born 27.02.07 and is our first baby. My husband Lee & I were married in 04/06 in his home country Samoa and have now moved back to Australia.
Maddi is growing bigger every day and is the spitting image of her dad, (only cuter!!). She has 6 teeth, is crawling and standing (but not walking) and loves to laugh and squeal.... She has never slept through and still only manages 3 -4 hours sleep at best. At the moment this is ok but we are open to ideas to extend this out. She is also still BF fully and does not take a bottle so I am on full time feed duty. We are trying to introduce a cup in the hope she will feed that way but at the moment is just keen on chewing the spout and letting the liquid drip down her chin!!
She has managed quiet a few foods and we are just starting finger foods which she loves to munch on. Other than that she has fruits and vegies for breaky and dinner and we have also started including small amounts of meat.... only in the last few days....
I think that is about all... would love any advice ideas on feeding and sleeping... although LOL everyone I speak to has their own ideas on what I am doing wrong!! (including the old woman next door who never had children!!)
Thanks so much for the kind welcome am looking forward to chatting over coming months.
Cheers,
Where's everyone gone? Lol.
I got El a soft spout sippy cup and have yet to try it with her. As she loves being on her tummy so much.
Yesterday I put up the portacot and she fell asleep in it. Twice. On her tummy but as her face was on her hands and her dummy I turned her over and luckily she fell back to sleep. Next nap she wason her back, tried to roll over onto her tummy but was against the wall and ended up sleeping there. On her side. Next nap she was on her tummy, face on hands. But breathing well, I left her there.
We've been co-sleeping last few nights and she's been sleeping well. One night soon, we'll have her sleep in the portacot all night to see how she goes before we go on holiday.
Yes, we're going to Melbourne next week, to see family. We'll be there just about three weeks. Going down on the train, so Sydney to Melbourne is about 10 hours. Hopefully all the stuff isn't too hard to manage. Portacot, stroller, nappy bag, clothes bag for all 3 of us, portable highchair and inflatable bath. I'll probably carry her in the hugabub to and from the train and load the stroller up with things.
She's still off her solids a bit, but I', still trying the offering. She doesn't like plain potato so I added a little cheese. She didn't like that either. Oh well. Loves the fruit gels and banana and pears. I feed her while she plays on her tummy sometimes. Plays, opens mouth, plays... I find she'll eat faster this way.
And good luck to you Naomi on finding a bottle for Maddi so you aren't a permanent feeder and hopefully her sleeping settles soon.
Hi everyone! Boy this thread gets away with you if you don't check in often! Welcome Naomi!
This is a "quickie" while Bella's asleep (yeah right I hear you all say!).
I took Bella to see the nurse at the chemist the other day to get her weighed - she's 7.68kg. I also got her to check her head size - 43.6cm so her head has SHRUNK! Or the doctor didn't do it right, and I'm inclined to go with that! So that means she's around the 50th percentile for everything, so I'm perfectly happy with that.
I told her that she was waking through the night after months of sleeping through. She asked me if I was happy with that and I said I'd much rather she was sleeping through...!
So this is what she told me: She said to stretch her feeds out to approx 4 hourly (of course this isn't a strict thing - if she's starving, you're hardly going to let her scream are you?). When she wakes at night, only offer water because that will 'teach' her that night time feeds = boring stuff and she won't be so reliant on that. She's also more likely to drink more through the day. She also said to cut back on the solids if she's not having enough FF, and to even stop solids for 24 hours, then gradually build them back up again. She said at this age, she won't suffer if she's had one less day of real food. She also said to start this on a weekend so nobody has to go to work tired.
So here's how we went. This was all on Tuesday and Bella had already had 2 feeds. I kept the rest of the feeds for the day at around 4 hourly and she went to bed at 9.30pm. At around 11.30 she stirred and I popped the dummy back in, then slept until 6.30. Yay!
Yesterday I fed her at 6.30am, 10.00am, 1.30pm, 5.00pm and 7.30pm. She then slept through until 6.45 this morning, so not a bad effort at all!
She's still not having much in the way of solids, but as the nurse said, at this age FF is still her main food source so not to worry too much about that.
Also, Bella who is WAY away from even attempting to stand up, walk or even crawl, has now discovered the joy of rolling from back to tummy, bringing legs in underneath, then flipping back onto her back. She's very pleased with herself!
Kel and Jemima have been over for a visit today, so I'll update the website soon - they had a lovely time together and Jemima showed Bella how she walks, while Bella showed Jemima what she could do! They are very cute together! And Kel, I forgot to give you the youghurt! (Bella doesn't like it).
Anyway, I'd better go and update the website so have a great day everyone!
I forgot how to put it in my signature (I was playing with it and accidentally deleted it) so here's the link: Baby Isabella
Have a great day!
Bella is a superstar!!! That baby is so cool, I'm sure that is what Jemima is singing about in her cot at the moment...... Michelle you GOTTA get a video of her rolling around like that, I wish Jemima was moving like that so I could get used to her head being near the ground and moving if you know what I mean..... Jemima's walking is cool but not very practical......
I thought of the yogurt when I was too far away to bother going back, get a "Munchkin the munchin dragon dude" spoon and Bella will lap it up!!!!!!
I am going to the clinic next week I've decided, that will be Jemima's 7 months so it will be a month of solids so I will make sure she is putting weight on and stuff..... it is almost like she is weaning herself as I worked out she hadnt had a feed today since we woke up and then at 2pm...... so she had BF 7am followed by solids (brekky) 8ish followed by solids (lunch) at about 11.45am ish then BF 2pm, and after we go to the vet at 4pm I plan to give her solids (dinner) then maybe a second dinner at about 6.30pm if she is hungry or whatever or give her a BF and get her to bed................ so as you can see we are all over the place......................
i'm going to go check out bella's new videos, i gotta work out how to get our video camera videos on the puter, as we have some cool in the bath stuff......
Catherine - that is a gorgeous new photo on your ticker, GOOD luck with trip to melbourne next week that sounds like a mission!!!!! how is the reflux going?? has solids helped??
Elouise's cold is not good. Its getting better but I have to wipe her nose and everytime I go near her with the cloth, she starts screaming. But it has to be done. And now everytime I pick her up she starts crying. I've just put warmer clothes on her. Perhaps she was cold.
The sippy cup was great! She chewed on it mainly and water was coming out and she sucked on it a bit and chewed some more. Coughed a little on too much water.
Good effort Michelle on getting Bella into a feeding routine. It took me a few days to transition from 2 hourly 150ml feeds to five feeds a day. She feeds, 200ml at 7ish, 200 at 10.30, 200 at 2pm, 150 at 5pm and 100 at 7pm-ish. With solids in between feeds, although she won't eat much.
ETA: She's not really eating solids but the reflux is almost gone! We changed her to HAAR formula from just AR and its working wonders. When she spits up, its only a little bit and mostly clear. Atm she's cranky with a cold but is feeding really well.
Oh Catherine, that's great news about Elouise!! We're only getting little bits of vomit, and not very often these days, although she had a nice "chunky" one this arvo! (Kel will vouch for that!). I hope her cold goes away soon.
Bella's not eating much at the moment either, but at this age I'm not all that worried.
Kel, I will definitely have to get the "Munchkin the munchin dragon dude" spoon - it's very cute! Where did you get it again??
Bella's here on the floor with a formula tin. I don't think she'll be kept amused for too long, so better go!
I have great news! Looks like El is loving food again. It seems she was bored by my homemade broccoli, carrot and pumpkin mix and loved the store bought organic pumpkin, carrot and potato. Her servings are about a tablespoon, and so the container had four servings. She wolfed the first one down so I had to get another and she wolfed that! And she loves the sippy cup! She's been able to drink properly out of it. This is so fantastic!
"Munchkin the munchin dragon dude" spoon i got it as a pair at coles garden city, i am sure i have seen them before though elsewhere.......
just walked felicity my dog to the vet with jemima in the jogger and a cute hat so will have to stick that on the website.... i got the hat when she was newborn and thought - what am i going to do with that -
catherine - i am so glad elouise is getting into food, it is so so so frustrating when you go to all the trouble of making food and then sitting there trying to dish it up when they wont have any of it! luckily jemima likes farex and apples so they are always awesome backup when she appears not to be hungry...
Jemima has just had a bf, i dont know what is going on........ so today:
bf when we woke up dont know the time i'd say 6am when hubby left
bf snack coz i was being lazy and didnt want to get out of bed about 7.30
FOOD at 7.45 coz the bf snack really wasnt what she wanted
FOOD at 11.45 at michelle's house
bf at 2pmish when i was watching all saints repeats
FOOD at 3pm (including some EBM in her sipper cup coz it was in the fridge and i wanted to get rid of it)
bf 4.45pm and now she is sleeping......
how many MEALS are your babies having???
ps - notice new signature............ no more TTC#2.............. Benji is but I am not............ I want to lose weight and have heaps more fun with just Jemima...
I told Benji if we get pregnant before I want to then he has take one year paternity leave and I would go to work for the year and then we would see where we are at!
So not entirely foolproof method but we are just going with Breastfeeding and willpower as contraception.....
Lol Kell... don't you know that when you don't want to fall pregnant is usually when you will!!!
Hi everyone :hello:
A real quick one tonight... I am tired.
Harrison is a munching machine... he eats everything he can now. He had 2 weetbix for breakfast, fruit salad for lunch... he loved the watermelon... and for dinner he had mashed pumpkin, potato, carrots, zucchini and corned beef. We got him a sippy cup and he loves it too... finds it a little difficult the first few sucks... but is kinda getting the hang of it now... he had some diluted apple juice in it the other day and drank the whole thing.
He has a cold atm and isn't himself... he wants to be cuddled all the time which is fine by me!!! He finally worked out how to get his walker to move forward, so we're all getting banged in the back of the ankles by him now!!! lol
Hi all and WELCOME NAOMI!
Naomi, I'm hearin' you with the boob only thing! My litle Monkey (I use an alias for her) only takes her milk from me too.... We have given up on bottles and are trying a cup too.... she has an Avent one (with the white spout) and it took her about 2wks to learn how to get water out of it. Once she got it, we have tried the odd EBM feed from it - best we've ever done is 35ml... not great, but a start! Good luck; there has also been some chat on this thread recently about the Tommy Tippee Nuby cups being really good....
All this talk about feeding from cup / bottle makes me even more nervous about starting work on Saturday!!!! I've got a new job, which is going to encompass 2 feeds.... DH is bringing Monkey to me for a late morning/lunch feed then we are going to hope that EBM/water/food will get her thru the afternoon until I get home around 5pm..... I am kinda looking forward to it, but very nervous and I know I'll miss her like crazy.
Kel, we are a bit all over the place too at the moment (which makes it even harder for me to predict how Sat will go!) I totally sympathise.... I think that with Monkey it might be partly 'cos she is trying to work out a new "routine" for herself and is potentially working twd dropping down to 2 day sleeps etc... Maybe Jemima is going thru this as well??
Generally we do:
BF around 6:30ish then b'fast
BF mid-late morning then lunch
BF mid afternoon
Dinner around 5-5:30, evening routine then BF around 6:30
Usually BF once overnight, around 1am
I have found Monkey has skipped the mid afternoon BF a few times, which has meant a few 6hr gaps in the day..... my boobs seem to cope OK; but they don't cope on the odd occasion she skips the o/n feed and goes 10-11 hrs! She seems pretty happy with 3 meals at the moment, but I am noticing if I offer her little snacks in between, she is very keen for more.....
Oh, and I did notice the change in signature, Kel...... I thought you were a brave woman to even be thinking about it!!!!
And can I also add my love of the HAB!!! I got one on loan from a friend and have found it waaaay more comfy than our Bjorn now that Monkey is over 8kg.
Catherine, so awesome about new formula helping for El!!! And Monkey didn't really like potato either; I think it's too starchy maybe??
Must go, just been reminded by DH that I need some sleep!! Funny how we all were AWOL for a few days then all posting today, hey!
Love to all and sending "good" baby vibes.... ie. lots of smiles, cuddles and sleep!
Hey All,
Thanks for the welcome. and thanks to those who I have been chatting with over messenger....
Well its good to hear others dealing with the same issues as us here...
Maddi is still a boob only girl but we are working on a sipper cup (MagMag) and she has so far managed water out of that. I also got her to take some formula out of an Avent bottle the other day but she got drowsy and as soon as she realised she was going to fall asleep without boob she got mad... but we managed about 60ml before that so its a start.
In terms of food she is a monster our days usually look like this...
BF about 7.30 - 8 when she wakes and then breakfast of custard/fruit
BF about 11 and then a sleep
Wakes about 12.30 -1 and has vegis/fruit for lunch with some water
BF about 3.00 and a sleep (hopefully) - if not a walk and some finger food (Fruit or rusk)
BF about 5 and then dinner of vegies (and we just tried some meat but not too keen yet) and fruit
then BF about 8 and off to sleep
BF at usually about 12, 3 & 6 over night.....
So that is our 'routine' to date but I am starting to worry as I return to full time work in 8 weeks and Maddi is still mainly feeding to sleep so we need to get that sorted in the day time at least before she goes to care... and in between now and then we are travelling to Samoa to visit my hubby's family for two weeks and have a wedding in Swan Hill (4 hours away).... so that should be fun!
Take care the little girl is calling my attention.
Cheers,
Naomi
Routine has just changed - used to be feeding on demand every 2-3 hours with solids at 8, 1 and 6ish but not replacing feeds. Now I'm trying BF on waking, breakfast at 8 (followed by BF if needed), BF at 12 followed by fruit, BF at 4, dinner at 6-6.30 start, bottle (sometimes bottle and breast) at 7.30ish - to be replaced with breat once sleeping is better, as I often need to BF at 8.30-9 to get DS back to sleep.
Well, I'm blogging our sleeping journey as I feel I'm cluttering up the place here with my non-sleeping-through lovie. All comments appreciated! Our day rhythm is going out in the morning and at home playing in the afternoon.
Kym, IKWYM with nights. When DS did his 7 hours (once, a long time ago) I was so pleased he woke to feed as I woke up due to needing to feed! That's why I'm hoping we slowly lengthen our sleeps and not sleep through all at once - though I can cope easily with a 5-hr sleep if I'm allowed that again soon. I make less milk at night anyway because I'm not eating constantly.
Hi guys! This is just a quickie and will hopefully benefit some of you who are having trouble getting your babies to sleep. We did what the nurse said and started spreading out Bella's day feeds, and she's been sleeping through ever since!!?? So we've not even had to worry about giving water at night, because we've not had the opportunity! How good is THAT??!!!
So now she's sleeping from between 7 and 8pm until around 5-6am, and as I'm an early bird, this just suits me perfectly!
She drinks more at each feed, and even her solids have increased in quantity too. So here's our routine:
Wake up (6am-ish)
Bottle and rice cereal
One toast finger (wholemeal - we've only just introduced it and she's still not 100% sure of what it is!)
Morning tea (9am-ish)
Bottle
Lunch (12-1pm)
Bottle and vanilla custard with pear and banana (we've just discovered that this is yummy mixed together!)
Afternoon tea 3pm
Bottle
Dinner 6.30pm
Bottle and mixed vegies with chicken, followed by custard
Just before bed time 7-8pm
Teeny bit of bottle.
The times vary and really depend on Isabella. Sometimes we'll go 4 hours between a feed, sometimes it's 3. Either way, it seems to be working.
Have a great week everyone!

that was jemima.... thanks jemima..... i'll tell them......
hehe
WE JOINED THE GYM!! Michelle get out your bunny ears we can be gym buddies (but go to different gyms) (jim)
the kidz club looked "fine" so i bit the bullet and put jemima in and went and did the pump classs and then joined up, i'll have personal training session once a week so that will be great
got yoga tonight, the mum and baby one not the gym one but i'll look into the gym one as well
jemima loved the kidz club, had a sleep and a play and was awesome and when i got there she was having some yogurt... kind of, she was really good they said
michelle - that routine thing looks VERY interesting and jemima 90% of the time is waking once very briefly at night for a feed.... i think i may go to the clinic as well though to ask and get a check up
woohooo i am so pumped about the gym, i am going to buy some summer gym stuff to wear! lets go shopping!
Hmmm. Jem sounds a bit cranky this morning! lol
Yay Kel for joining the gym! My bunny ears are ON! Glad to hear Jem liked it too! That makes the entire "ordeal" soooo much easier to handle. Don't know how you do those pump classes though - they look HARD! Is the personal training thing part of your membership? If so, that's excellent! We only get one a month, or on the odd occasion when they're quiet (like last week when they tried to kill me...).
I'm organising swimming lessons for Bella this week. Spent half the weekend looking for a tankini(my skimpy around-the-house bikinis really didn't seem appropriate...) and do you know how hard it is to find one that's meant for someone UNDER age 65??? Unbelievable! Ended up going all the way to DFO and found a really nice pair at Sunburn. Can't wear one pieces because I'm too long in the body and I feel like I've been cut in half, even in a size 12, so they're out I'm afraid. Tankinis are easier to go to the loo as well - don't have to pretty much get undressed to do your business! Ok, you didn't need to know that, but I really like my new togs! They're stripey and halter neck with little ties on either side of the bottoms. Very noice....
Michelle, I started 4-hourly feeds and DS is now only waking twice overnight, I feel like a new woman! A new woman with big, hard breasts named Leaky McLeaky, admittedly, but a new woman all the same. I'm quite pleased I 'm not having to go cold turkey from 2-hourly feeds and am going to slowly cut these feeds out. I've already started to cut out the 9pm feed.
Yay for you two fitness chicks! Well done.
Wow, it looks like we've all had that problem with stretching feeds out. El just decided to drop a feed. The 5pm bottle is gone. So what we do now is give her afternoon tea around 3-4pm and dinner at 6pm. Last bottle has increased from 100 to 150ml and is at 6.30pm. She's really into food. Still wants store bought but that's ok. Didn't finish all her brekky but I didn't want to force her. It was nice. Fruit muesli jar. Tasted like apple crumble.
DP, being environmentally friendly decided, what's this cord plugged in? Turned it off. And the icecream and baby food melted. Oh well. Now he's learnt his lesson. Don't turn off the freezer in the garage.
Elouise is "crawling" now. She gets up on her hands and knees, nudges knees forward, goes onto tummy, moves hands forward and starts the process again. Inch worm style. She'll work out the crawling rhythm very soon.
Ryn, have you though of having a hand pump by your bed to express for relief and freeze or give to Liebling in a sippy cup?
Mich, your tankini sounds hot! I used to find lots of tankinis in surf shops like ripcurl and also kmart, target and big w. Maybe its just a tad early and they haven't stocked yet. And congrats to Isabella on sleeping through!!!
Oh good luck Kel! I should go to the gym. Hmm will look at the one near me. I see mums come out with prams so that looks good.
what is with backwards children???
Jemima is crawling backwards???? BUT awesomely walking forwards with my help (see her youtube site) BUT backwards if she is in a walker (we dont have one and not going to get one, my house not made for them) she is allowed to use one at Kidzclub and our friends house we decided.
we will get her a push around toy though but not a sit in the ring thing walker not worth it at our place
when i read the routine thing, jemima has basically given herself those kind of feed times probably even the 6am but i dont realise coz we are just in bed and she helps herself..... i should write it down for a day and try and figure it out
what colour are your stripey togs michelle? PLEASE say red and white like where's wally!?
catherine - does elouise watch where she is going when she is crawling? and i know it is not funny but i hope you lauged at your DP for his environmental disaster!?
ryn - what times is pubert waking now?
Hi everyone!
Ryn - Yay for only two wakeups at night! I suppose anything's better than what you were doing before hey? It's amazing how stretching out their feeds can make a difference!
Catherine - Yep. It is too early in the "normal" shops for tankinis apparently, even though it was 31 here yesterday!!! And what a clever little girl Elouise is, crawling like an inch worm! How cute! Aren't men hopeless sometimes?? You would think one would check to see what the plug was attached to before turning it off! lol My hubby would do something like that.
Kel - Well isn't Jem a clever girl, even if she is crawling backwards! We're still NOWHERE near even thinking of crawling, so I'd be happy with backwards! As for my togs, they are red....white....and black stripes! So not quite Where's Wally, but almost!
Us - we're still in the land of sleeping through, and life is pretty grand actually! We're having a week off going to the gym this week (creche was booked out - I should've booked MUCH earlier!), but have Bella booked in for next week. The personal trainer who I reckon enjoys seeing me in pain told me she'd be looking to give me another freebie in the next couple of weeks, so I've got another few days of pain ahead. Well I'm off to do more of my website and study - life's sooo busy!! Have a great day everyone!
Off to Melbourne thursday morning. So tomorrow is a busy day, packing and cleaning and returning dvds to the store, defrosting and cleaning the fridge, cleaning the bathroom, put a load of washing on and collect the water for the garden... Terry has newspapers to deliver and uni (he might chuck one or both lectures) so I have most of the cleaning to do. Which is ok, but I think he should chuck one lecture to do the papers so he's not up at god knows what hour to finish them.
I see the doc tomorrow to get this awful implant out. It works great for lots of women, just not me. Or maybe its taking a little longer to settle down. Either way its going. Plus, I want to lose 15 kilos, which haven't budged since I was 8 months pregnant. So hormonal contraception, makes me two sizes bigger. Which is not a problem, except I have heaps of clothes I want to wear again. Plus maybe if I lose weight, I might be able to get fit again. Coz hiking up a hill with a pram takes it out of me.
Meh enough babbling, I might not get back on the computer before we go, busy busy. I might be able to post while away, not sure about whether we have access to the net or not. But good luck to everyone and have fun!!!
Hi Catherine
Is that the Implanon implant you want out? After all the hassles you've had, I thought I'd tell you what happened to me, if that's what you're talking about. It could be completely unrelated, but you never know....
I had it put in several years ago (before I remarried) and it worked great at first, and although I put on 11kg, I was still in the "normal" weight range for my height, so that wasn't the issue. The issue was my brain! I got really really depressed and down. I just felt "sad" all the time, and like life was just "yuk". DH finally said "Get it out! I want the old Michelle back!". So I did, and that same day, I felt like the cloud I'd been living under had gone, and I've been fine (in fact wonderful!) ever since.
I told the doctor about it and of course they said "Oh no, the implanon wouldn't cause that!", but I knew in myself that something wasn't right and the difference once it was out was unbelievable!
Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful trip and Elouise is a good girl for you! Good luck getting everything done in time too!
