Oh Runner I hope you get some answers and even better - some solutions!
Orange - I have tickets for the Wiggles so I'll be taking a 2.5, 3.5 and Henry, I hope it will be ok!
Dis - So glad to hear you have tummy sleeper. H will ONLY sleep on his tummy, so yes I have a movement monitor. Trying so hard to get him on his back but he really is a tummy boy. Even doesn't really like lying on back to play really. Stressful I agree - but he just will not sleep on his back at all, so it is the only way unfortunately.
Speaking of sleep - H has been a right litle turd the past 2 days. Feed feed feed and will wake up the second I put him down. Is it growth spurt time atm? I'm exhausted! And Lucie and NEd so badly want some attention and Henry is consuming every bit of mine. I'm at my wits end!
Oh runner - sorry to hear your little girl isnt well, hope she gets better soon! Caleb has reflux and we have him on losec, that might be what they give your bubba, if they do try and get it in liquid form, we got it in the capsules which have to be put in water and he gags on it.
My dad arrives tomorrow to meet Caleb, so excited!!! Caleb had his 2 month check up today and he is 5.8kg!!!! he has grown another 4cm and is now 58cm long.. what a big boy i have hes just a delight
Whose little one still doesn't smile a lot? Dash is 9.5 weeks now and will smile but you have to work really hard for one. Guess he hasn't had much to smile about last few weeks with the bad reflux. He still has the newborn reflex where he shakes his arm and leg (only on left side now) when stretching and waking....anyone else with a bub still doing this?
Jo and Runner: Another option is Zantac (I had a choice of this or Losec)...it is liquid but need a script and costs $20 for the bottle that will last forever, it is huge! It tastes awful though, like mouthwash, but since Dash is bottle fed we can put it in his bottle no prob.....when we were giving it to him before a feed he would get upseet and then not feed.
Dis aned Soph: Thanks for info on the Wiggles, hope you enjoy the show with your little ones. I think I will buy the tickets and hope that DH can have the day off and either go with DD or watch Dash - I am not too confident going out with two to a big event (it's a new world lol) especially when my DD is going through the "I can do it by myself" phase and the "run as fas as you can and hide from mummy" phase. Your boys are doing a great job chubbing up nicely - bet they are just too cute!!
Jo: Is Caleb still rolling over?
BIG hello to everyone else!!
REN: How is little Ava going? Hope that the breastfeeding is still working for you both and that she is sleeping those longer stretches for you like she started doing. Hopefully you haven't posted because you are getting some nice rest or enjoying your happy bubba!!
Mummy brag moment (throw all the tomatoes at me that you want lol).....Dash has slept from 8.30/9.00pm - 7.00-7.30am for 4 nights in a row now. So 10-11 hours without waking up once! YEAH!!!! I feel really lucky and hope he keeps it up (if not, that's ok too). I am stoked that he is doing this at 9 weeks old....it's a nice relief with all the upset and worry of severe reflux....no way that he would be able to do this without his meds! I guess that bottle feeding has helped as well with this but it is a great feeling getting a full nights sleep. Now, to work on those smiles. Hope that those who need a full night sleep get one soon as well!!

Orange - yep Caleb is still rolling over, the midwife was shocked! hahaha its so cool though, when he does it he just looks at me so casually like "whats the big deal mum *blink blink* its just what i do" hahaha
I have found a new way to get Caleb off to sleep when his reflux is bad or he is severly overtired, i cant pat him on the back to send him to sleep (because of the reflux) so i just turn up the white noise and pat the mattress next to his head, it takes 5 mins and hes off in la la land, only had to do this yesterday cos he was overtired and now hes back to going into his cot awake and falling asleep by himself.
My dad arrives today!! woohhoooo! Caleb is getting his vax tomorrow so im dragging dad with me, he can hold Caleb and i might have to just leave the room!!!! I can then blame Grandad if he cries hahahaha
hi there,
well, doctor was very nice, listening and understanding. We got some Gaviston, not anything stronger medication wise at this stage, doctor is cautious not to over perscribe which is good I suppose. Sorry if the spelling is not right, I am too tired.
I was told to handle her very gently after breastfeeding - no patting, jiggling, bouncing etc - makes sense! We seemed to have done everything else - raised the cot, feeding in upright position, holding her there for 10 mins at least after feeding etc, do not eat certain things (for me - no dairy, limited sugar, no caffiene etc).
Now ladies - a question about wraps and wrapping - our Amara likes to be wrapped but she is strong and gets out of it many times and this wakes her up? familiar story? yes, probably! well, I am thinking of buying something I saw called a Swaddleme wrap by Kiddopotamus - it has velcro fastening to keep the little ones tight!
what do you do ? and use? I currently have muslim wraps, but they are quickly getting too small for even my 6 week old Amara -
Yes, she is 6 weeks today!!
jo - have heaps of fun with your dad!! I may try that method of settling for Amara you mentioned too.
Orangefeather - I am envious of your little one sleeping so much during the night - but you deserve the sleep so I am also so happy for you, knowing now how hard it is to have a bubba with reflux.
My Amara is not doing too bad at night - last night slept from 8pm to 2.20am, feed, and then back down again (after spending time upright in my arms for 15 mins or so) until 6am - stirring a bit now and again. I think this is wonderful as I know breastfeed babies do take longer to sleep through the night and she is also only 6 weeks old......I don't expect to have this happen everynight, but it is a start. the main thing to me is that she settles calmly after that night feed !! 2 night ago she did not and we were up from 1.30am to 5.30am..........say no more, it was horrible.
How I managed to get up and stay motivated with my running is beyond me sometimes, it must be just automatic after all these years...
Runner - we use a miracle blanket and it works a treat as Caleb is very strong and gets out of any wrap we have, we cant use anything else but this one. I would say buy one of each, if they both work then fantastic, if one doesnt then you havent wasted heaps on buying two of the same thing that doesnt work (you need at least two for the days you need to wash one)
Runner: Sounds like Amara is starting to sleep well at night, what a good girl!! Dash has Gaviscon with every bottle....without it he vomits. The Zantac simply takes the acidity out of the vomit (but not stop it) iykwim. You should notice a difference very quickly, Amara will be happier on it. As for wraps, Dash uses the Kidopotamus Swaddleme like you suggested. He cannot get out of it - unless he learns how to use his little fingers to undo the velcro lol! Used them on DD as well.
Dash is in a Medium and is 5.5kg if that helps. He can still fit in a small swaddled under the arms which is how he likes it anyway.....he still likes to wave his arms around. They are great because you can change their nappy without unwrapping them and they come in cotton and fleece. We have used this swaddle from day 1 in hospital with both bubs. Dash is now only swaddled at night....this is his night sleep cue. They are hard to find though (well around here anyway) but I know ebay have a heap up for auction (with different designs that you can't get in the shops). Don't know anything about the miracle wrap like Jo suggested (sounds similar though???) but hope that helps.
ETA: About sitting up after a feed......I find I don't need to do that much with Dash anymore as long as he has had his Gaviscon. After 3 weeks, I can now put him down almost straight away if I need/want to. I also add Infacol to each bottle to help with wind so I don't need to tap his back...it comes up on its own now. Hopefully you will notice a big difference too!! Good luck Amara and Runner!! xx

Ava has put on 240g in just 6 days!!! She now weighs 4390g!!! We are doing so well with Breastfeeding now... and almost exclusively Breastfeeding. I'm very proud of us for persisting through all our problems with it all.... and finally I don't feel any pain in my right nipple when she attaches! It's only taken 6wks
I can't believe my little girl is 6 weeks!!!!!!!!! how fast it goes.....
DD is sleeping well at night.... her last feed is usually 10pm and she sleeps until 3 or 4am!! We are very happy with that and hope it continues for a little while.... it's great getting 4hrs sleep in a row. Makes all the difference. She doesn't sleep for long during the days, however sometimes she may sleep for 2-3hrs and that's great it gives me the chance to rest or do stuff around the house.
Jo- we have the same wrap! They are great! Ava gets out of any wraps too but that one.... she's such a fighter LOL!! I want to buy another one.
Orange - thanks for asking about me hun! I just haven't posted in here for a few days as I find it hard time-wise! When Ava sleeps I quite often am resting myself OR doing house work. We've also had a few appointments lately. Today we have our 6week checkup! And gotta have the dreaded papsmear however now it doesn't seem too bad considering everyone has seen my 'hoo-ha' already i've given birth!!
That's wonderful Dash is sleeping so well!!!
Jo - sorry to hear Caleb needs Losec. We had Ava on the tablets for a week then stopped them.... turns out she doesn't have reflux anymore!!!
Runner - oh no!!! I'm sorry to hear Amara isn't sleeping and is vomiting up alot... definitely sounds like reflux if she's crying in pain all the time. you poor thing. you must be tired. Did you get prescribed anything? Losec?
Shellsie - just saw your post. I've been going through similar tough time to you with regards to feeding,..... I've been expressing and taking fenugreek tablets AND motillium to get my milk supply up as i lost it a week ago when DD wasn't feeding properly and i didnt realise my supply had diminished until we realised she'd lostweight. (all good now tho after hard work!!!) i would spend my whole day either feeding, settling or expressing sooooo draining!!!!! Are you taking fenugreek and motillium aswell? It works wonders my milk was back within 24hrs..... i was expressing every 2-3hrs also. keep up the work it will be worth it. if thats what you want to do. I'm so very proud of myself for persisting with it all and soon we'll be exclusively BFing..... almost already are now..... it's taken 6wks of hard work but its worth it.
Sorry ladies i havent been on here, been going like a mad idiot getting my house ready for sale, its officially on the market,we did have an offer but now we got 3 lots of people fighting it out who wants it and maybe more after today when it goes on realestate.com and paper
Well i havent heard from sleep school and i dont need it anymore,my boy has done an about face the last 3 days or so,,he now goes straight down and sleep...we got a SIDS recommended wedge and we been putting him on his side and its lights out in minutes...
Last night he slept all the way thru from dreamfeed at 11am and woke at 630am then went back to sleep til 730am..1st time i had to wake up n go see if he ok..i cant stop bragging about the EASY thing by secrets of the baby whisperer, has saved my life, that and the wedge pillow
He has been a bit on the off side, has a rash and i thought was excema but its viral,is over the worst and better, went and seen 2 doctors to check he ok and all good, poor thing has shocking cradle cap, like a good little italian boy he is poor thing getting doused in olive oil.. anyway thats it for me,got things to do
am off to the beach for a few days for some R&R
cheers bon
hi Ren,
thanks for your thoughts. It has been hard, but everyone here has had some difficult times, all worth it for our beautiful bubbas.
So proud of you re Breastfeeding - I am very lucky in that way, both times.
Hey, guess what? I just entered my first running race post baby!! Yeah! it is this Sunday - an 8km fun run. Just getting there on time and getting hubby, son and newborn daughter there ON TIME will be the most amazing thing, and not the race itself!!
Hey all, I've been catching up with everyones posts then the boy cries and I never get to post. So here we go.
We have our follow up appointments with cardioligist, and Peadiatrition (sp) this week. Makes the boy really unsettled as the prod and poke him. That said we are now sleeping 9pm - 4am fairly regularly. During the growth spurts we get a 12 or 1 wake up too.
Quick question do people still have to hold up the baby's head? Fin's neck is so strong. We only hold it cas it makes us feel better, but he doesn't need it any more.
aww Mel, love the pic of your wee man!
We havent had to hold Calebs head up for weeks but we still like to anyway, just makes me feel more secure knowing my hand is there. glad you got to eventually post!!
Hi ladies! Good to hear from you all, some of you have been MIA, but it's easy to understand why.
So glad to hear some of the other boys are starting to get chubbier! I was going to take J to the clinic yesterday to ask some questions (well about Ben actually), but decided not to in case he weighed in over 6.5kgs, which is very likely. Nah, that's not the real reason we didn't go, but it was in the back of my mind!
Soph, so glad I'm not the only one with a tummy sleeper! J still sleeps on his back at night, but during the day it's all tummy. B, DH and I all sleep on our tummies so it's no surprise really.
Runner, sorry you've had such a rough time. Hopefully the Gaviscon will really work with Amara. Poor little thing. Good luck in the run this weekend. You'll be able to get there on time, just set as much up as you can the night before. I've found that's the only way I can be up and out of the house before 9am!
Bon, yay, on the sleeping!
Ren, well done on breastfeeding. You've done really well there. Are you using cloth nappies on Ava yet? I'm using them about half the time on J. I have some more Baby Beehinds on order, but apparantly there is a nation-wide shortage as one of their trucks caught fire and they lost heaps of merchandise! So, I don't have enough to have both boys in cloth full time. Ben wins because of his sensitive skins so J is still just part time. Have found the flushable liners pretty awesome.
Mel, we haven't supported J's head since the first week. He's a strong little bugger. B was the same and was sitting unsupported at five months' old. Wouldn't be surprised if J is the same... besides, he has the added fat rolls on his legs to help keep him stable
Had an amazingly busy day yesterday. Went shopping then to my SIL's for a couple of hours. Also managed two loads of washing, the washing up, cooking dinner and the ironing - all while DH was at his second job so I'm pretty proud of that. Of course I'm totally wiped out today though! Lucky the boys had a good night last night
