Dis - Loving "Bringing up Baby' and totally agree - that woman is a total cow! I am so definatley in the very 'relaxed' Continuum method (the full name escapes me - baby brain ) it's not funny! Henry is a total sling, co-sleeping, booby fed boy. Makes me feel a bit less stressed about him not being in a routine and sleeping in the sling. This child has to be carried around. Lucie and Ned (and me!!) would go crazy being at home for all his sleeps. Hopefully he'll be my chilled out little man :D
-
Just a quick one...yeah to all the bubs 'working out their thing' iykwim!
Missed 'Bringing Up Baby' last night. Soph I think you are onto a good thing (don't feel bad about no routine)....yes routines can work....but you can get the same result with no structured routine as well (as you already know having other kiddies). I'm sure DS will be a chilled out dude especially if you are relaxed yourself!!
AJC: Have you heard from Ren....hope all is well. Reflux is awful....especially if it is silent reflux....am lucky that Dash is a 'happy' chucker.
Well little man slept 7pm-7am last night with a quick 10min bottle at 3am (has been doing this for a while now).....but the biggest news is NO VOMIT FOR 3 DAYS now!!!!! What a treasure!! Now to get him to have a dream feed at 9.30pmish - unlike DD, DS won't drink asleep - and he will sleep right through!! But can't make him do something he doesn't want to do - in his own good time. Count my lucky stars and be happy with what he does now I say, as some mums would just love even an hour of continuous sleep!! Don't know how they do it!!
Anyway, gotta go and tend to Dash. Will post my pro-shots this arvo of Dash. Too many to choose from but they are adorable.

Oh i watched some of that show last night, but i had it on mute as i was on the phone to my mum, i couldnt even watch it with the sound off, i saw the bit where the baby was crying and crying and the family was eating dinner and i just wanted to cry, i had to turn the tv off, it distressed me so much, imagine the distress it caused that little baby to be left alone to cry like that.... Oh it breaks my heart.
I used to be a believer that you should let your baby cry as thats what i was raised with, but its just not right, im sorry if anyone here does that but i just cant agree with it, i think its a form of torture.
anyway, had another good night last night, slept right through, he wouldve gone right till 7.30 but i got nervous about him not having anything to eat all night and gave him a feed around 4.30am!!!! I dont know if i was being silly or not but thats what i did.
Have booked into baby massage class, Sonie if you are interested its in Point Cook next Friday and it only costs $2 (the price for the oils) you have to book so if you are keen, let me know and i will give you the details.
any word on Ren??
Orange - go Dash for not vomiting and sleeping really well, you must be thrilled!! Ive noticed Caleb isnt having as many issues with wind and vomiting anymore either, perhaps their little tummies are maturing and getting used to handling it all aye?? whatever it is i know im happy :)
Well its supposed to be another hot day today... eeek, lets hope those fires stay away!
-
Jo: Unfortunately Jo, Dash isn't vomitting anymore because of the Zantac and Gaviscon (wish his stomach was maturing)....without it he can vomit across the room and out his nose and it disturbs his feeding. As for waking Caleb at 4.30 - he will wake if he is hungry, so don't worry, obviously he is quite content. DD was sleeping 12 hour blocks at 5 weeks but she would wake earlier if hungry....when she slept through like this though she would have two bottles closer together first thing in the morning or catch up somewhere else during the day. Dash is starting to do this now too. It is around about this time that they drop a bottle anyway (when bottle feeding exculsively) Hope that helps, you are doing a great job.
-
Hi everyone - I got a message from Ren late on Wed night.....
"Paed wanted us to stay tonight but we came home. I'm sick of hospitals. Got prescription for reflux hope it helps. See Paed again nect week for review".
Poor things, I really hope things are improving for them. Big Hugs Ren if you are lurking.
Sam had his first immunisations this week. Was awful. He didn't cry heaps but was just a bit grumpy for the rest of the day. I cried tho, I hate seeing him upset. He was such a brave boy - 2 needles and that gastro one given orally. For around 24hrs afterwards he fed quite frequently. Sometimes I think he just likes the bonding that goes with BF & feeds because he feels secure. Jo I know exactly what you mean about not letting babies cry - I just can't & won't. I watched that doco on ABC last week and that strupid hard a$$ woman annoyed me so much (the one saying to leave the baby in the garden for 3 hours a day).
Sam had a big boy bath last night. Was so much fun, I ran the bath and hopped in with him and he loved it. He's outgrowing his baby bath now and our bath is so deep I would break my back leaning over so I just got in with him. DH was leaning over pouring water over his tummy and he gave us a big smile. Was a really lovely 'family' moment.
We still don't really have a routine. That is great that it is working for some - especially Jo you're doing great! Sam has two longer sleeps each day so I just sleep when he does. Bon - Sam loves to be held too. I'll feed him, burp him have a play or a story (I don't like to put him down until at least 1/2 hr after a feed), then to wind him down I'll lean back into the lounge with him on his tummy on my tummy and he is so relaxed and content. I'll gently walk into his room and put him in the bassinet, lay him down then within 1 minute he'll wake with eyes wide open arms & legs going everywhere. Bit naughty but when DH is on night shift I sleep him in the bed with me (safely of course) and he settles well with me. I just put my arm across and rest it under his little legs and that contact is enough to keep him happy. Yes I could be creating a monster but at this stage I think it's most important for me just to get some sleep.
-
Just popped on to see if any news on Ren....thanks AJC!
Ren: If you're reading this hun, hope things are starting to settle. Ava is lucky to have a Mum like you. You kinow her best of all so keep persisting for answers/help if reflux isn't the problem. Try not to let it all take away from your first exeriences as a Mum....it is a very rewarding 'job' which I'm sure you already know. Look after yourself and your precious Ava....I am thinking of you. Hope those meds have kicked in and Ava is enjoying some settled sleep (and you and DH for that matter).
AJC: Dash has his needles in 1.5 weeks. Glad Sam was a brave boy...I'm not sure I could be that brave lol! Sweet reading about your family moment in the bath....hope it is a memory that stays with you forever. There are no rules to parenting...as long as your little one is happy (and Mummy and Daddy). They are only tiny for a short time so I say steel every moment you can and worry about 'fixing' bad habbits later when Sam can better understand. He he! You are doing a great job with Sam!
Later Ladies....

-
AJC - that is so cool, having a bath with Sam!! Ive had a shower with Caleb, its was lovely... ah yes they are only this little once, I grab the chance for cuddles every moment i can!!! apparantly they cant form bad habits this early?? not until they are about three months, thats what i heard anyway so get your rest anyway you can, cos if you are looking after yourself then Sam gets the best of you!!

my little man doing good,i had to wake him tonight for a bath and feed at 1145pm,he been asleep since 7 and was getting worried,he slept face down tummy time on my lap..its his wind-down time,,was worried he slept so long between feed and didnt want to bath him so late but he was pongy...today tried the 1and a half hours up and 2-3 hours down,he went down easy but cracked the poos and went to sleep finally into his own little routine and was content and had a big long sleep, like ajc little man he has 2 long sleeps during the day,Dh keeps wakign him banging n clanging or banging doors just when he settles then wakes him up by startling him and it stuffs him up for the next hour or so.He sleeps thru noise...id love nixon to sleep thru the night but he now stretching feeds to 4 hours, but not sleeping thru,he has a feed about 11pm,then 2 or 3am,then 6am etc..but slowly going 4 hourly, have increased his bottle but he still a lazy feeder, tonight i put the organic formula in his bottle instead of his other one and he slept and was more content for longer..mmmm might trial this tomorrow me thinks.
anyway its 1am,i better get sleep,am excited, put my house up for sale today..
tomorrow we are off to nixons 1st major event, his cousins 1st birthday, its teddy bear picnic theme,im soooo excited..

Well, my little man has been a bit cheeky the past few days and seems to have forgotten how to sleep on his own during the day. He usually goes down quite easily and self settles if needed. Well, the past two mornings he went down but didn't sleep, even though he had been showing tired signs. He was fairly happy in his cradle for half an hour or so, but in the end I had to pick him up and he finally slept in my arms. Both arvos I've taken him for a walk to get him to sleep, which has worked, thank god!
On the plus side though, we went 6 hours between feeds last night! So I guess I can put up with a bit of fussiness during the day if that's going to continue! And DH has been home to halp me today, which has been great.
I think I'm going to buy a hugabub so I can carry him around with me if this continues. We already have a couple of carrier things, one of which my mum used on me as a baby and is similar to the hugabub, but neither of them offer a great deal of support for Max's head. I'm quite excited now and can't wait to get my hugabub!
Anyone else using cloth nappies yet? (I think Jo, you said you were?) We are using them part time - I still don't have enough for full time. But have 7 or 8 good OSFA now, so will try to start getting more use out of them. I can't bring myself to use them at night yet though - just can't be bothered dealing with a cloth nappy in the middle of the night!
Speaking of nappies - what disposables do you all use? I had huggies, but the size up from newborn don't seem to come in boxes. I bought one packet and it lasted only about 3 days, so thought stuff that. I've got snugglers now. They're nowhere near as good as huggies, and I've got a whole box to use up :( I know people always said huggies are the best, but I didn't think it would make that much of a difference...
-
Gypsy....lol at your cheeky little man!! Glad he is letting you sleep at night though. As for the nappies, I can't use huggies on my kids because they get a big scratchy rash. DD never used to get a rash with them but they changed how they made them when she was about 6 months and hasn't been able to use them since. DS is the same....shame because I do like them.
We swear by Snugglers lol. We have tried just a about every nappy on the market and to be honest it comes down to the shape of your bub. We found other nappies that were good in terms of absorbancy but too wide in the crutch, big gap between bum and nappy, nappy drooping to knees etc.....but fit friends babes perfectly....so it really does depend on your baby.....all my friends use different nappies and swear by the ones they buy lol. As for the infant size Huggies, Babies Galore and other babies shops should stock them in the jumbo box (bigger than what you buy in supermarkets)...they used to anyway so don't quote me on it lol. I don't use cloth nappies at night either - or when going out for a long day because I use terry nappies.
Hope you have fun picking out your hug-a-bub....i have a Hot Sling and just love carting DS around in it. Didn't have one for DD and am now wondering what I did without it!!
Linda
-
Hey Orange, have you heard about using Moss?? I heard somewhere that Moss in disposable diapers is super absorbant, we just bought some today (not game enough to try it yet though!) Im wondering if I could put them into my cloth nappies in the booster insert but i dont think you can reuse Moss... does anyone know anything about it? I googled it and all that came up is how Moss is really good for the skin, its an antiseptic or something like that and it was used in the olden days but nothing about being able to put into cloth and wash and reuse...
-
Try the Aldi nappies(disposables),they are called mamia, come in all sizes, the newborns u can get quite a bit of longevity out of,i have huggies, aldis, babyloves(they r tiny)and a massive box of snugglers..
Well today we went for teddy bears 1st picnic, was fun, everyone commenting on how cute nixon is and how well he sleeps, hes now self settling real good(touch wood)and has worked his own routine out thats working for all of us as well as him getting plenty of rest, hes such a content and happy baby..sleeping and doing what he supposed to now.
Does anyone have a babybjorn?i got one on ebay, hubby got a sling the bubzilla and nixon loves it,is a large size so too big for me,whats the hugabub all about,id be interested as well as babybjorn as he getting heavy to carry etc..
anyway bedtime for me,tried to go at 10.30 but someone having a party again behind us,music stopped now...oh yeh ive had a shower with nixon, both dh and i both do as its hard n slippery just with me holding him,he loves it,i can wait til winter to have a bath with him, that be awesome.isnt it funny their reactions to the shower,he pulls faces and loves the water on him except he dont like his head under too much,,
anyway its off to sleep for me
-
we are using the aldi nappies as well (mamia) and they seem pretty good, seem to hold just a little bit more than huggies did for overnight usage.
-
Bon...glad you enjoyed showing off your little man...I'm sure he is a cutey!! You are right....Aldi nappies do have wonderful absorbancy and they are cheap! We used them for a bit with DD but with her skinny pencil legs they were too wide in the crutch (so looked bulky with fitted pants) and as her wees got bigger they sagged quite badly so we were forever changing them. You see, she needs a size down for fit, but size up for absorbancy (still does and is in crawler for size and toddler for absorbancy now lol). But that's just us and DD isn't a regular shape - she's a skinny minni (in fact she has never had a fat roll lol!).
Most of my friends use them so they are really popular.....they are really giving Huggies a run for their money. Actually, just before Christmas, Extra (channel 9) had Mums road-test different nappies and Aldi came second as the most favourite nappies for fit, absorbancy and price!! So sounds like you are on a winner with Aldi.
Jo: I've never heard of moss....let me know how it goes and what it actually does.
Have a nice day everyone. We are cleaning out and hoping to have a garage sale on Sunday (never had one before so lets see how it goes). We are also organising Dash's Naming Day...only 4 weeks to go!!
Linda xx
-
Gypsy - we have been using cloth full time since H was about 1 week old. He pooped for Australia yesterday though so I am having some drying issues atm  Otherwise all good! No idea about moss - never heard of using it!
Soniebon - a hug a bub is pretty much a 5 mtre long piece of fabric that you tie (it shows you how) around yourself. Bub is nice and tight and close and it gives GREAT back support. You can even bend over and bub won't fall out - great to use while trying to get the house cleaned! H loves it - sleeps soundly in it from the second he's in it!
-
Gypsy, Soph has given a good description of the Hug A Bub. My DH loves to wear bub in it too as he gets to feel close. A good bonding tool :) I've got a crook back (bulging disc and sciatica) and was able to carry Ben when he was 12 months old no probs!
We haven't started Jared on cloth yet. I ordered some flushable liners from Mothers' Direct last week so once they arrive and my latest order from Baby Beehinds arrives, we'll get started on them. We're back to using Huggies for Jared and as backup for Ben. Ben started getting rashes from the Aldi nappies after months of using them when mum was looking after him. It was weird that he went so long in them before trouble. Now we rarely use sposies on him at all. Cloth most of the time for him :)
Orange, good luck in finding stuff for your garage sale :)
Jo, never heard about using moss. Let us know how you go if you use it.
Bon, sounds like you and your little man are doing well.
AJC, I cuddled Ben to sleep for months and months and don't have any issues with him with sleep now. In fact, he 'reads' himself to sleep now after we read a story to him. It's really great :) Take all the cuddles you can now, they'll be up and running about before we know it :(
Ren, if you read this, I hope the medication is working for Ava.
Us, we've had a full-on weekend so far. Visitors galore and then a bbq last night. We have another to go to today. Ben's sleeping normally again and Jared seems to have drifted to two big sleeps during the day already too. It's strange that so many of our little bubs are already doing this!!!
Gotta go. DH has Jared and he's hungry again. I really thought he'd skip the 6 week growth spurt since he's so big already, but it looks like he has other ideas!
-
Disgirl - how much were your flushable liners? im trying to find some decent ones at a good price
-
HEY EVERYONE!!!!!!!! I'm back!!!!!
Thank you AJC for posting and letting girls know about us and thank you for the support girls!!!!
I have been MIA for nearly a week now..... we were in hospital Tues night as I was going insane with poor Ava's screaming & crying in pain all day long, she wouldn't sleep and wasn't even eating properly and would fuss at the breast. So it was hard.... Tues i was exhausted and we went to hospital and Dr admitted us overnight so we could see the Paediatrician the next morning regarding possible silent reflux.
She was treated for it as they suspected it was that (like we did) and the next day she was a different baby!! Finally sleeping during the days now too so I actually get a break and rest if i need to.... whereas before I was living off 3-4hrs sleep a night and no sleep during the day!! She sleeps OK during the night thankfully.
So it's been very HARD for us with a reflux bub but we are getting there..... she's on medication & also like gripe water but it's called "Mariners Infant Mixture" and its homeopathic and working great for her.
BF'ing is still very painful on one side :( but I'm persisting.... it's been tough!! We had to give her top ups of formula last two nights just to get her to sleep however as she isn't feeding effectively on one side I think it's due to her silent reflux. I have since been told it can be challenging enough alone BFing let alone with a reflux baby. Feeding for them can be painful.... so its a huge learning curve at the moment on top of everything else *sighs*.
Anyway, noooo chance of catching up with you all as it's been pages and pages. Just wanted to touch base and let you all know we are still around and Ava and I are doing well besides a few hiccups along the way!! :D
Hope you're all keeping well. Hope to post more often now that Ava sleeps throughout the days
Ava sleeping = more time for me!!
eta - nappies - we are using Huggies newborn (they are still huge on her!!) and have some Aldi newborns aswell to use.... they are meant to be great. And in 2 weeks time we are going to start using our MCN's. She's just so small at this stage and they are huge on her!!
-
Yay Ren - glad to have you back and good to hear Ava is on the mend, thanks for letting us know!
:):)
-
Thanks Jo!!
Oh!! And girls.... have to share exciting news.... before Ava got treated for silent reflux, it was impossible to leave the house as she was either feeding or crying in pain all day long.... so once we left hossy weds and she got her medication to help her she was better by Thurs morning.... we even went shopping just me and Ava (had to get out of the house!!!) and I had her in the sling and she slept contently in the sling for 2hrs while I even did the grocery shopping and went to BigW to buy a present for someone!! :D I was so happy that I managed to actually get things done as she was so content. It was wonderful. Poor bubba has been so uncomfortable but thankfully no longer in pain too much!
It's hard work being a first time Mum let alone having BFing issues AND a silent reflux baby!!! What a busy 4 weeks it's been.... but I'm pretty sure these challenges wouldn't present themselves if i couldnt handle it ;)
-
Thats it im buying a hug-a-bub or a sling just to get things done...dh's sling is way toooooooo big for me.
Well tomorrow off to see the obstetrician for my 6 weeks check up..
Just want to run a few things by you all..im really worried i might be over-reacting and have a minor bout of PND or the fact my hormones are really out of sorts due to my thyroid hormone which controls my hormones is making me tired and cranky,as my metabolism is soooo sped up im sweating, not sleeping well day or night,i used to get this b4 i had Nixon and my levels last week were 24,they usually 23 and the highest level is 25 for me,so its pretty bad.
That and between my anaemia, low blood pressure and low iron and fatigue and not sleeping you can imagine how i feel, also hard cos not eating properly,no family or friends at all to help.just a friend the other day for 3 hours but thats it,somewhere in between my DH has become non-existant as he spends every minute on the computer running my business and no matter how much i tell him ive needed help it hasnt happened,he was helping me but now he not.until tonight i cried my eyes out and said i need hlep and thay nixon and me are his 1st priority not real estate agents,he been cranky and we been cranky at each other, not pressures from a baby, pressures from the real estate cretins...
.So i think in the circumstances im in no wonder im feeling liek this, also hard when im a bloody perfectionist and want things the right way,ie settling sleeping, today he played up and last night but he had a tummy ache as silly me increased his formula and feeds and it upset his belly and was constipated,i got a huge poop-explosion b4,caught that one on camera for his 21st lol...i think when it comes to nixon i have to just do what works for both and not try too hard and push things like strict routines as it upsets both of us...so far it works with the odd bad night,5 in 6 weeks is pretty good..
-
Sonya- remember just shout out if you need help, i wont push myself onto you but im always here if you need me, sometimes we just need to spend some time with another mother who is going through the same thing or i can come over with Caleb and help you look after Nixon while you either rest or have a shower or do whatever you need to do. I would much rather you are looking after yourself, only then can you look after Nixon as well. Like you said, hes a good bubba but they can sense if we are stressed out and this can affect their eating and sleeping habits, so maybe a bit of time out for you will help him to remember how to self settle again.
Like i said, i wont force it but all you have to do is say the word and i will do what i can for you.
-
Hi all, Well were still here and haven't burnt down.
We have been evacuated quite a bit though. It has made me really organised with Fin and his bag as we can't spend 20 min dithering around trying to remember everything.
My Hugabub is a life saver I highly recomend it to everyone. It is great for doing the shopping, It means you don't have to put them in the manky baby carriers on the trolly. Well It is another Fire danger day tomorrow so I'm going to go out for the day. Time for a nap the boy was up and down all night last night.
Snoochie boochies
-
My little girl is 1 MONTH OLD today!!!!
MelA - that's scary. I hope you and your family are safe  how close are the fires???
I saw my LC today. She thinks Ava doesn't have silent reflux and that she's just hungry!! So i'm very confused.... I am seeing the Paediatrician tomorrow anyway. I am more inclined to trust what my LC says then the Paed anyway as he is a bit basic in what he says and doesn't really listen to me when i talk! That's specialists for ya *sighs* only seeing him tomorrow then thats it!
My milk supply has dropped :( as Ava isn't feeding 'effectively' and can be a lazy feeder so I'm going on Maxalon or something similar tomorrow. Only for a few days though thank goodness. Don't like being on drugs! And back to expressing after each feed also.
Hope you're all well.... Ava's due for her next feed in 10mins so I am quickly going to search the forums to catch up while I can!! :D
-
It is scary, Especially with the Little man. My DH is freaked out as he works in the city and is constantly worried about us. We have had two major fires close to us so far one was about 1 km away, that one is totally out now. The other is about 5km and is contained and had 10 trucks in attendance.
The CFA website isconstantly on in our house. The boy is crying again, So I'm off. I'll try and do some persinals when the DH is home.
-
Ren, good on you for persisting with bfing :) You and Ava have had a rough trot, you are doing really well.
Mel, how scary! Keep yourself and your family safe.
Jo, I didn't really shop around. I just bought the pack of 500 from Mothers' Direct when they had 20% off. I think they were $65 or so. They haven't arrived yet :( I've tried Jared in the Baby Beehinds without the liners, but he's just weeing right through them. I'm going to try him with an insert sometime over the next few days.
Sonya, don't think you're overreacting. Make sure you tell your doc how you feel. You need to look after yourself.
Have any of you girls signed up for a mother's group? My MG from Ben is awesome. I found it so good to have some people IRL that were going through the same things as me. We still get together on a regular basis and even have girls nights out together. Now there are quite a few of us who have new bubs... actually, nearly the whole group of ten has had another bub or is pg again so we're all going through it together. Really helpful to have somebody to talk to who knows exactly what you're going through.
We had a FABULOUS night last night! Jared slept for six hours straight, which is his best so far :) I got to sleep for five of it as Ben was awake for the first hour of Jared's six. Unfortunately Jared hasn't had a good day today - lots of wind. He's finally asleep now though :)
I had my six week check up today and I'm glad that's over with! DH is happy too because now that that's behind me I feel confident enough to DTD! Now I just have to get the energy to
-
Dis - that's unreal he slept 6hrs straight!!! Yay. Ava did that Weds after we got home from hospital last week from pure exhaustion however we can't let her go longer than 3hrs without a feed due to her weight gain issues. So no such luck for me!! maybe in couple of months time.
Does anyone know how we get our Bounty Bag?? I went public. I believe you get a Bounty Bag when you have your baby ? I never got one.....during PG yes at the beginning but haven't had one since having DD.
-
I didnt get one either Ren, i thought we were supposede to get it when we left the hospital??
I have my 6 week check up tomorrow, i hope they dont make us wait too long, the only appt time i could get is when Caleb is supposed to be sleeping so I dont want to still be in there when its time to wake up and feed him, poor little man, might bring a bottle with me and hope they have some hot water to heat it up with just in case.
Mel - keep yourself safe with the fire warnings, so far the winds havent picked up to 150kph like they were predicting, lets hope they get it all wrong and that way no one has to suffer.
Well my sister is now 11 days overdue and has been in hospital since 7.30am when they put the third lot of Gel on her cervix and apparantly they were breaking her waters at 7.30pm so lets hope by tomorrow i have a new little Neice, Maddison Emma, to gush over (in photos only darn it)
-
Hey everyone! Great to see you back Ren!! Hope you get Ava sorted out soon. Dash has reflux and the meds work (he is on Zantac and Gaviscon). So if the meds are working, it may be possible that she does have reflux....it was almost an instant improvement for Dash. If they aren't working maybe she is hungry. It's hard not knowing isn't it - this is where a crystal ball would be handy!! Look forward to hearing the update from the paed tomorrow.
Jo: Hope your neice arrives smoothly tonight. How exciting.
Mel: Keep safe!! Don't know how you do it....I would be sooooo scared.
Dis: Yeah on six hour sleeps!! It's hard trying to co-ordinate two isn't it. I am slowly winning that war lol!!
Ren: I got my bounty bag at hospital. They are under each of the cots at our hospital, along with a packet of huggies, johnsons baby wash and wipes. Inside that bounty bag is the ticket for the third bounty bag that you collect from Target (gender specific). The third bounty bag has a treat for DH in it so worth tracking your second bag down (that you should have got in hospi).
Well, my boy is so relaxed now that we have reflux meds in full swing. He slept 8 hours last night and has just chilled in his bouncey today. No real smiles yet but hoping before 8 weeks....he does think DD is amusing though and he has given her a few small ones. Needles in one week for dash...who can believe he is nearly 8 weeks already!!
Gotta go,
Linda
-
WOW you girls lucky getting your kids to sleep through 4-8 hours,Nixon still wakes 3 hourly for feeds etc,we are experimenting with his formula,150ml and 3 scoops too much n he wont poop,so we trying 125 and 2 and a half scoops, the little monkey still battles to finish 100ml and u gotta force feed him, maybe thats why he not sleeping longer than 3 hours,he does sometimes but not often...is this normal?
Well went back to the docs for my 6 weeks checkup,my stitches have healed and all is good,im still a bit tender, wants me to start DTD soon,im like wtf??? hell no,not yet, shops shut..lol
He keeping an eye on me in relation to how im feeling and if its PND,we waiting til my thyroid levels return and if i feel still ugh then we will get onto it..i have to see him in 2weeks time,i feel good though, amazing what a good sleep will do..
Had a few probs settling nixon todday.we been running around a bit as we just bought a new house n land package n been back and forth doing that, has stuffed up his routine,he not feeding or sleeping the best and im paying for it,oh well we will get it sorted,no stress..

anyway im off to bed b4 our apparant almost cyclone hits tomorrow with hot weather to boot, they closed most our national parks, parks in the city etc,i dont plan to leave the house..

Ren - glad to see you're back again. Hope Ava continues to improve and you can put the problems of the past few weeks behind you.
Bon - I've been told that the MCHN usually contacts us about MG in the first 8 weeks. I haven't heard anything either yet, but at my last appointment she said if I still hadn't heard anything by the next appt (at 2 months) then I shoudl let them know. So I'm not worried yet.
Mel - Stay safe! My folks live in the bush about an hour from Melb. Although they have been lucky and not too close to any of the existing fires (the Bunyip and Gembrook ones were relatively close, but the wind was blowing away from them luckily), they will be in real danger if anything starts up near them. They are absolutely surrounded by trees. I think we've convinced Dad not to stay and fight after what happened to all those poor people on Black Saturday.
As for me, I think I've got a slight bout of mastitis. Max was acting very weird yesterday, sleeping lots and not really interested in playing, so I had the thermometer out to take his temperature (it was fine :)). My friend was over and I had said how I felt terrible, so she suggested taking my temp - what do you know, 38+. My right breast was really sore, skin sore all over (like when I've had the flu) and thumping headache. Anyway, saw the doc and got some antibiotics and taking panadol, which seems to help. Downside to the antibiotics is the doc said they make bub's bowel movements a lot looser. I don't know how Max's could possible get any looser, and they're already watery :)

Hi Everyone!!
I had Eva-Marie at The Sans in Wahroonga on Jan 17th things are going well she is my first baby but getting alot of help from family! Anyone else live in the inner west?
-
hi everyone,
sorry it has been so long since I posted. I have been getting very little sleep here like some of you and hence,no time to post.
Ren - I really hope things improve for you - it has been a tough road, but I am glad you are getting help.
Amara is also experiencing some reflux - it was horrible night last night.......I think I got 2 hours sleep. she is not chucking up heaps, but seems to have tummy pains. we had someone over yesterday (nurse) to help, and these things are true:
- I have loads of milk - too much for Amara and it comes down fast. so I am expressing about 20mls before certain feeds - nurse seems to think amara is only getting the first sugary milk which is causing probs.
- she hiccups and has swallowing problems almost every time - feeding takes ages as I hold her upright as much as possible but so tiring at night.......
- my diet - well, I don't have tea/coffee/chocolate/alchohol. I have cut out dairy for 4 days now and having soy milk. BUT i had a spicy home made pie last night and last night was bad for her..............was it the spice? who knows??
also told not to have citrus fruits and cut way down on sugar.
well, lets say, losing weight is a bit easier because of this...I have lost 11 kgs in just over 2 weeks and only 3kgs off my pre preg weight now and Amara is only 3 weeks, 6 days old!
any advice is always welcome.
Jo - I have read about your settling methods and checked out the baby whisperer website. It has helped - but I hope you don't mind if I ask for your advice at another time...right now, gotta go -feed time..
-
Runnermum, not sure if you will be willing to give this a go but i went to see a natropath about my little girls collic and i was reccommended Nursing Tea, its great because it has fennell and dill and lemon in it which helps with their tummies it worked a treat for Eva-Marie. I also checked with Tresillian and they did advise me that in some cultures fennell is used but she said to just try boiling water cooled down (only 20 to 20 mls)
For those of you who are bottle feeding how long do your little ones sleep at night?
-
Runner - no worries, im here if youd like some advice and if its helpful then all the better :)
Just went for my 6 week checkup, everything is good, put on 10kgs in preg and have lost 12kgs. Caleb decided it was the perfect time to do poos like hes never done them before, they went everywhere!! all up his back and on the change mat, on his feet (cos he kicked in it) i had to strip him completely naked and change all his clothes cos they had poo all over it, I had to laugh cos ive been waiting for it to happen, just not as the dr called my name!!!
man it was expensive though, i had a papsmear done at the same time and so she charged me double so it cost me $100!!!! i know i get some of it back with medicare but dont they realise new mothers especially dont have that kind of money floating around!
Well im tired and have just put Caleb down for his 2.30 nap, so im off to have a nap too!
-
thanks Jo, hope you are having a nice nap.
Great weight loss - good on ya! I was a skinny size 8 (some would say!, I say just right for a runner!) before I got pregnant, so being 3kgs still on me seems big to me. I am now a size 12 in the chest - wow - biggest ever for me.
Amara is sleeping well during the day today - I did try and have a morning nap, but couldn't sleep well but rested at least for an hour.
I consider a good day to be if
1. I get to go for a run, ride or swim or combination of these AND
2. Get laudry done OR
3. Get some cooking done OR
4. Get shopping done OR
5. Catch up on paperwork re my sons schooling, or filing done etc.. and catch up on emails.
what about you girls????
I just want a good nights sleep (which I would consider 4 hours!!)
-
Runner, if I get ANYTHING done I consider it a good day :D
I had the same sort of problem with my milk. Jared was snacking all day and was only getting the sugar-rich milk at the beginning of the feed. He was really unsettled from that. I had a few days of expressing (I had bleeding nipples too :( ) and with the full on feed from the bottle of EBM, he settled right down. After that we've been much better :)
I have NO time right now. Off for another feed. Jared slept for five hours last night, that's two really good nights in a row - woohoo! (Probably jinxed myself now! :( )
-
Runner - I second what Disgirl says! If i can get anything done, then i'm doing well  sorry to hear Amara has some reflux too. If you have too much milk (wish i had that problem! i dont have enough at the moment and building my supply up again) you can b.feed lying down.... does that help you? have you tried that?
In a typical day I usually manage to get a load of washing on and sometimes fold some clothes. Stack the dishwasher.... the rest of the time I'm either expressing in between feeds, sterilising bottles ready for next feed and settling Ava or sleeping aswell while she sleeps!
I just put Ava down now for hopefully a 2hr sleep so I am off to get some sleep too.
Had a pretty good night last night. she slept from 11pm til 3am and then after 3am feed she slept pretty well woke up couple of times but settled herself so i didn't need to help her fall back asleep. It was a good night :D
While my right nipple heals (cracked, damaged and was bleeding!) I've been expressing from it only as it's way too painful to b.feed with. Also, expressing L side too but sometimes feeding from that side. So Ava is now getting top up's of formula aswell as expressed EBM. She is gaining weight and has put on 100g in one day!!!!!!!
Her reflux doesn't seem to be so bad now and we are managing it with the Losec and homeopathic drops. Hopefully going off Losec this week.
Orange - Paed appointment went well. He was happy with her weight gain and said as long as she gets 75ml every 3hrs at least, she will gain weight well. Well, she takes at least 100ml every 3hrs so no probs there LOL and perhaps it was silent reflux as the medicine seems to have helped!! Ava is so much more content and happy. and usually goes down pretty quick after a feed or is happy to just look around and we talk to her and poke our tongue at her and she pokes it back! so cute......
Would do personals but I'd prefer to catch my sleep while I can !!! ;)

Hey all....proud mummy moment - Dash gave me the biggest smile EVER last night....what a melting moment.
Runner: You asked for advice....I'm sure you know all of this but to help reflux you should feed upright (which I think I read you were doing) and keep her upright for half hour afterwards, prop the cot mattress up on an incline, burp by rubbing not patting and over shoulder instead of knee so back is out straight and tum not squashed, smaller feeds more often. Can't really help with the oversupply of milk because I have never breastfed he he....but doesn't it settle at about 6 weeks??
Dash spends every second sleep in his bouncy sitting up....this seems to help. Also DS reflux is worse in the arvo due to colic so I burp before a feed and have him 'snack' at the bottle for an hour. I put Gaviscon in his bottle (not sure how this works with breastfeeding) and this stops the vomiting and the acid coming up the back of the throat by acting as the valve that keeps his food in the stomach. If Amara is hard to settle it may be because the acid is burning her throat when laying down....dash is harder to settle without his meds and wakes up constantly....doesn't take a full feed and seems to be feeding every awake time he gets....so nothing gets done. The Zantc simply changes the acid so it doesn't burn if he does vomit. Meds are quite drastic but we had no option, tried everthing else. Ayway, we have had no reflux for over a week now (except for when a friend fed him and didn't follow our procedure) so will keep up the meds.
Ren: Glad Ava is gaining....still don't know how Dash gained his weight with all the vomit he he. 100mL is excellent - well done Ava!!! Dash has only just gone up to 125mL (should be on about 150-180mL by now) but with a thickened formula they tend to take less....that should answer your question too Bon!! Have you tried giving Ava some thickener before a feed? I think you mix it with breastmilk before a feed when BF. Not sure how you feel about that so will leave the thought with you!!
Bon: Hope Nixon had a settled night last night!!
Big hello to everyone else.
