Babies Born January 1st ~15th 2009

You girls are so brave wanting to have more kids. I am so happy with just the one. I know that I can confidently say that I can look after my husband well if I only have one child to take care of. If I had more I would be afraid that I may neglect my husband and DH is very affectionate and would not handle the lack of attention. As it is we are probably on DTD once a week now. Just because I am so tired by the time he comes home and we have put them baby to bed and had dinner and a sit down. We used to do it more in the morning but because we wake up at different times and sleep is so precious that has gone out the window. I worry though that he may not be satisfied. So I will try and make more effort.

On another note I am so worried about this rash on JD, its very dry and little sores seem to be appearing. It looks like excma (sp?). I can imagine it would be quiet painful or uncomfortable. I have changed his bath soap tonight and will see how hat goes. I also rub sorbaline (sp?) on him to try and sooth the dryness. This is probably the reason he is struggling to fall asleep sometimes. I know I suffer from dry skin and its terrible and can get sore if its not got moisturiser on it. I wonder if I should take him to see a dermotoligist? Has the rash that some of your babies have seem like this also?

Amanda from what you have said it sounds like the usual rash/pimples babies get around 5-7 weeks of age. It generaly goes within a few weeks, but if your worried, get it checked out. It could be more then just that. Jasmine had terrible skin as a baby and still does on her arms and legs....but her face was terrible and always itchy. She has eczema and we use steriod cream on her at night.

Also try Natio cream...thats awesome for dry skin. With bath time, if JD's skin is more then just the age related pimple/dry skin, the best thing to use in the water is nothing.....soaps and additives will make his skin flare up more. Try some rolled oats even...that is pretty good. Else try Moo Goo cream (google it). For us i used to use Dermveen cream in the water, or theres Derm aid powder stuff you buy from the chemist. Its what the cildrens hospital on Melbourne use and recommend. It has no smell at all (ie wont make bub smell all pretty)....but when you first use it, will smell likes oats! HTH a bit :)

As for your DH...im sure he would tell you if he wasnt being satisifed...well if thats his nature. I know Craig definately lets me know..LOL

Hi ladies - all well here - April is going great guns - now 5.7 kgs! In between 000 and 00! As for a third, I'm keen, DH isn't. We will have a chat at around 6 mths and will be super careful before then. Not DTD that much - in fact, at all - a little sore from previous inactivity ;) Just need to get over being too tired too for all of that.....

Gosh - if only we could manage it (dtd) once a week! I dunno how time or energy is made!? We have virtualy no quiet time between the 2 of us right now and when we do its so late in the day we are both too exhausted. DH has told me he doesnt mind, its just a gap we having due to the obvious big event that happened 2 mths ago ;)
Might get more chance over the next month though, DS is starting to have the odd evening when he isnt cluster feeding non stop from 6 - 11pm! He did feed all evening last night but then he had his first slept right thru the night!

It is easier with one, but we love having 2. And the first one was an easy baby but harder cause it was all new and we had no experience. We were trying to be so careful no to damage our baby. We are much more take it as it comes this time.

Well after having a pretty good day with Harley yesterday, he didn't go so well today, he hasn't slept much, and his bottles went back to 2 - 3 hours... he is asleep at the moment and fingers crossed he is down for the night, maybe wake up around 9-10 for a bottle then give me a good 6 hours...do u think I'm asking to much hehehe :P

My eyes are sore and the screen is getting blury again... and I can't focus to well...thinking I'm gonna have my eyes tested again and prob have my glasses changed... fun fun!

Salsa: I never really have the energy to DTD but Rob just is so keen for it, he kinda gets me in the mood :P so we are back to the old days lol...somehow manage to get it in when the kids are asleep lol. I still really wanna go a 3rd time, but thinking I'll have my tubes tied if I do, as I know i'm pretty fertile and I think 3 would def be enough!!

Puppies: U may change ur mind in a couple of years about kids... but for now I'm sure u and hubby are very happy! I know u have gone thru a stressful month and a bit! Hopefully things are all good from now!

PLC: April sounds so healthy and cute!! Ur doing real well with her!!

Big hellos to everyone else and ur beautiful babies!! Can't believe how fast 6 weeks has gone, I knew it would once he was born... wish it would slow down as well! Although am looking forward to more smiles and can't wait for the giggles to start!!

Deb thanks, it has been a rough start for us but I am really starting to enjoy it at last. Although JD was not very settled today, he just finds it hard to get t sleep sometimes. I think he is a bit constipated. If he has trouble passing a poo again tomorrow I will try giving him some cool boiled water before I feed him.
Its funny I am sure that Dh thinks I am exagerating when I say JD has been a good boy like yesterday, cause every time he is home JD plays up. It was fun playing with him tonight though. He had some nappy off time and we kissed and cuddled and played with him so we got a few more smiles and he even tried to giggle again. He is asleep now but it took a while though probably cause I over stimulated him, but I am so desperate for some interaction from him.

I have to say it honestly took me a while to fall in love with him but I am head over heels now! I cant get enough of him, I just want to kiss and smell him all the time. I hate being apart from him and I don't like leaving him with anyone. I dream about him almost every night too. Do you think they are aware of how much we love them at this age? I hope so.

Anyway, my SIL and I are going to babies galore to get his feet and hand moulds done in the morning, I just hope he is settled but I will take a bottle of milk with me just in case. It will be my first shop visit with him. We are a bit behind in the outings mainly because of the rough start we had with him. But the medicine is really helping his reflux now and I am getting more confident. Although I am not looking forward to him getting his vaccinations next week. I will probably cry. I am thinking of giving him a bottle when he gets them so that he is concentrating on something else. What do you experienced mums do when it comes to vaccination time? Any advice for us first timers?

Amanda with my girls ive always either given them a dummy (Chelsea) or the second all 3 needles have been done cuddles and bum patting (Jasmine). I also make DH take the kids for needles now..i hate how my surgery does them and i feel slack....LOL

I dont vaccinate so cant offer any help there..sorry...no doubt bottle would help soothe him though.

Kim do they give the needles in the arm, bum or leg? and how many are there for the 2 month vaccination? What kind of side effects can you expect?

I am in two minds about this dummy situation with JD. I know that we started using one in hospital from advice from a midwife, as it soothes babies with reflux. But it seems that between 4 and 4.30am every morning he starts crying for it. Then of course your up and down from then giving it back to him when he drops it. But he doesn't really wake up for his feed until 7am (well that is what I am trying to teach him to get used to anyway). We tried last night ignoring him when he asked for it but he just kept going with the emotional cry. But then again he was very overtired as he did not sleep well again yesterday. Any ideas?

Some info about a Mothers Group Meet n Greet that I am trying to facilitate:

Date: On Friday 6th March 2009.
Time: 10.00am.
Location: At the Everton Park Hotel in Flockton Street.

No one knows anyone else really but this will be a good chance to get a north Brisbane mothers group established perhaps.

They have great coffee and cake deals and a fantastic kids play area (including a Merry Go Round). Table will be booked under North Brisbane Coffee Club so you know who we are / where to go.

EVERYONE WELCOME...pregnant, new mums, mums with little children etc.

Ample parking and a nice cool, relaxed, pleasant environment once inside. Come along and be involved in forming a Brisbane Mothers Group...would love to hear people's opinions on frequency of meet ups, suggested locations etc.

Doesn't matter if you can't be there at 10 on the dot. Some mums have indicated that they have swimming lessons on Friday morning so will be coming a bit after 10am.

Think I'm the only Brissy girl in this group, and I would so love to come, but unfortunately I don't have a car or licence and would have to ask someone to take me and don't know if I can get anyone as the one person who would do it is working up north near mackay now :(

Amanda: With the needles I think a bottle is a great idea, I'm dredding it with Harley, I could never hold Charlotte for her needles, felt so bad, I got the nurse to hold her at 2months, then my sis held her for her 4 month needles and my mum held her for the 6month ones...the only time I held her was for her 18month and she only got the 1 needle and she didn't cry at all!!
I think they have 3 needles at 2 months and they go in the leg or thigh and side effects can be fever, I think diarrhea. But u stay there for about 10mins after it so they can monitor bub

Amanda needles for 2, 4, 6 months are in the leg (2 in one side 1 in the other). Then 12 months is one in each leg and 1 in the arm. Side effects ive had were drowsiness (slept ALOT), slight fever, irritable and went off milk. All common and nothing to worry about. Some Panadol on hand was a good step i took. Did JD have Heb B at birth? Rota Virus is given orally
As for dummies...i hate them but if they get you sleep then im all for it! Jas and Zach have refused them so its a blessing. Have you tried wrapping JD tighter...i found that helps with long sleeps here, how bout music in his room? Some babies like a really dark or light room.....so that might help. Just trying to think of all the tips and whats worked for me other the yrs.

Amanda I started researching vaccinations when Jess had a reaction to her 2 month shots...her reaction to some may be minimal but it was enough for me to question why i was going along with my DR without researching for myself. There is alot of information to be found on the net which is more objective that can be found in a DRs office because I like many people find it hard to go along with the medical profession pushing for a high vaccine rate knowing that pharmaceutical companies inadvertantly fund them! There is a tonne of research to be found. I am not happy to put the toxins that are found in vaccines into the kids bodies at any age, because an injection bypasses the bodies natural defence mechanisms. My choice that works for us!:p

Venessa the meet up looks great..bet you get a tonne of people. Deb hope you can get someone to help give you a lift!

Have never personally used dummies..having always been one lol. Im not sure if you can really train a baby though...they have hungry little tummies!

Jo i researched alot too...but i have a very adamant hubby when it comes to needles and he thinks the kids need them.....TBH i only think Heb B is really the only one anyone should ever need....but anyhow, thats just what i think. My kids get all the needles. Both girls have reacted after the 4 month ones the worst.

I have made a stand though....12 months are the last ones they get. Which reminds me, i need to get Chelsea's 18 month needle objection form signed and also prepare to get Jasmines done too!

Where i go, the nurses prepare the injections then the dr gives them. The bit i hate (and why i refuse to take them) is that they make you hold them down on a bed while they are jabbed. For OHS reasons you cant hold them in you lap in case the dr misses and jabs you and not the child :(
I think its so cruel.....a poor child is innocent and here you are holding them so they cant move....makes me cry thinking bout it.In fact i cry the whole time they are at the dr's getting needles...then when they come home i cuddle them for ages and stroke their hair, lots of kisses too.

Aww Kim that sounds so horrible. I dont blame you for being upset by that...geez!

Oh my gosh I am so not looking forward to it at all now, not that I was anyway. JD had 2 needles in his first week at the hospital I think it was Vitamin K and Hep B.

I was asleep on the lounge with JD in his sling this afternoon and poor little thing had a bad dream and screamed and threw his hand in the air. I couldn't calm him down poor thing. Lucky it was milky time anyway so he settled nicely after he had his bottle thank God. I have music playing for him in his room now, so I hope that promotes a happy sleep with no bad dreams. Gosh I wonder what could scare such a little baby like that.

Amanda i hope i havent made you feel even more worried about getting JD's needles...im sorry if i have. I was just saying what happens at my dr's and how my girls have taken them. All kids are different and drs have different rules with how you hold them etc.
Not sure what could have made JD scream like that.

Zachery just had a lovely 2.5 hour nap with me, he layed there for ages just starring at me and making noises. Was so sweet.
