Babies Born January 2008 #9

Hi all!

We are doing well. 6 month immunisations past with only a couple of days of irritability and clinginess!

Generally having 3 meals a day now, these have been
Oat cereal and apple for breakfast
yoghurt and banana for lunch
vegies and chicken for dinner
I also give her a net feeder of melon once a day which she loves.
This week I am going to introduce apricots and maybe beef.
Still breast feeding in between, but these are reducing in amount and frequency
We were sleeping through the night last week, but now has another cold and woke twice last night all snuffly. Oh well, poor mite has sneezed all day and has a little cough.

So hope all is well, have had a busy day housework while DH looked after the little one. Better go

Hi everyone

Thanx for the advice re the solids. I made carrots & leek puree for A on Saturday. She seemed to spit some of it out,and her face was smeared with orange bits, but the bowl was eventually finished. It was about 30ml. I also bought the Tommee Tippee net thing (what's it called? can't be bothered to find it to find out!) so i'm going to give her carots, pear or melon tomorrow or something.

Because she seemed to be eating well, I'm now giving her 2 meals a day.

HAPPY HALF-BIRTHDAY TO EVERYONE'S BUBS WHO'VE TURNED 6 MONTHS!!!!

Mmmm..re the 6-month check-up, DH told me that A isn't going to have one...now that I hear that all of your bubs seem to have had one, I'm now wondering if DH misheard the MCHN?? He brought A to the last appt (4th month), as I couldn't make it, and he said that the nurse told hum that A's next check-up will be her 8th month. I don't believe him (MEN!!! Dunno if I can trust him to do anything! LOL), so I might call the nurse tomorrow to check myself.

lunesoleil, can your Amelie sit up by herself without support? My A can't yet, so we've decided to delay buying the Tripp Trapp until she can sit up herself. Right now she gets fed sitting in the Bumbo seat...but the little monkey is full-on trying to get out of it after only a few minutes!!

She's going to be 6 months on Wednesday - yay!!

Bodie is now 7 months! Soon our bub's will be crawling... how scary does that sound! hehe Time has just gone so fast.

Bodie is going great with his solids... he's on 2 solids a day (with his 4 bottles). Farex cereal in the morning then vegies in the late afternoon. Not much of a routine here either.

mateauz has finally found his knees and has started rolling onto his sides...WOO HOO for us!!!! as for eating, he's a garbage can...god the boy can eat.
We're on formula full time now....he totally refusses the breast but hey im not unpset (anymore pmsl) he got plenty and it so helped him out./
Tascha - I get the same with my own name....im german and **** i was aso sick of being called Mary-anne at school that I just didnt listen to the teachers when they said it.

Kate - YAY on Billy for sitting by himself...clever little chicken jsut like his mama

My Amelie doesn't even roll over yet but she can happily sit in the trip trap w/ the baby insert.
She's lil over 7.2 kg now.
Ironic thing is she's not so keen on solids yet... I tried cereal w/ water & formula, sweet potato & pumpkin, pear & banana...and she just spat every one of them out...so that was over a week...
Today I gave her home made rice porridge.. and she 'seems' to eat it? I dunno.. have to try it again tomorrow...

She's been teething for last week or two but still going... the bud hasn't cut through the gums yet...and I heard that's when it's the worst :( oh well! We just have to ride it I guess :)

I wish everyone a good night - i.e. bub sleeps through.. so do you...:D

Damn it, i was trying to quickly post the above so that it will get posted before midnight, but i just missed it! LOL.

OK then so that means my LO turned half (6 mths) yesterday.

lunesoleil, I think feeding solids is a bit hit and miss - does anyone else find this when they first started? Like today, A didn't wanna eat anything, so I gave up after 30 mins of trying. I think maybe she's not hungry enough after the breastfeed? I tend to feed her about 1/2hr to an hour after she's had her 6pm feed but I think maybe I need to feed her the solids earlier? Atm, our weekday schedule is roughly as follows (MIL looks after A on weekdays):

7.30am bf
8.00am I'm off to work
11.00am EBM
12.00pm solids
3.00pm EBM (if I expressed lots the day before) OR formula
6.00pm bf when I arrive home (arrrghh, relief!!)
7.00pm solids
8.00pm bf
8.30pm bedtime
11.30-12.00am dreamfeed
3.00-4.00am nightfeed (if lucky, skip this)

Do you think maybe I should bring the 2nd solids feed (ie 7pm feed) to maybe after the 3pm feed? ie, at 4.00pm? It's just such a rush for me to come home at 6pm, feed her, then not long after that get the solids ready and rush off to feed her again - it's full on nonstop and I don't get to enjoy being with her. If I change it to a 4pm solids feed that way I can relax and play with A a little when I get home. Any comments/suggestions?

maz, I lurked in the bf forums sometimes, and I see some of your posts. You are such an inspiring mummy and obviously so dedicated to your son. Even though Mateauz is longer being bf, he's in the best care because his mumma loves him so much. :clap:

Forget to add: today, (well, technically yesterday) being A's 6th mth b-day I weighed and measured her myself, and her measurements are:

Weight: 6.750kg
HC: 41cm
Length: not sure how this is measured ie, head to heel or head to toe? If head to toe she's only 65cm, but head to toe is 70cm.

(oh, DH was right - I called up the MCHN and she confirmed that there is indeed no 6-mth check-up).

Time for bed, am very tired, I know i shouldn't stay up so late being a work day and all, but I've always got so much to do...

One last thing: does anyone have any recs for an electric breast pump? My Avent manuel one is getting a bit tedious to use. The Medela mini electric pump seems to be quite good, but most of the reviews indicated that it is noisy. I need something whisper quiet as I pumped at work in a quiet office...thanks guys. ok better go...

Happy half birthday to Amelie!!

Thats weird that you dont get a 6 month checkup. I made an appointment for next week. I double checked and we get 3 wks, 4 months (that I didnt go to), 6 months, 12 months and 18months. Thats the community nurse, and more appointments if they feel you need them. Must be the difference between Vic and QLD!

Congratulations on the awesome breast feeding and expressing at work by the way. Getting home and putting her on the breast must be such a great feeling- I feel that way with the first feed of the day too! Weare still bfeeding well too.
I reckon definitely try the solids for 4pm. It sounds like it will work in so much better for your lifestyle. I personally find Addie is too tired for solids much later than 5.30 (or 6 if she has managed a big afternoon sleep.) (she is a terrible day sleeper so gets really grizzly by the evening!) She eats solids well at 4.30 to 5pm.

Sorry I have a manual breast pump so cant help there.

Otherwise we are going well, no news to report till next week and we get weights and height done!
Three 'meals' a day, and water in the bottle and net feeder. We are introducing new foods every few days and she is eating everything!

Happy 6 months Amelie!

So well done with the breastfeeding. ITS SO MUCH EASIER than the bottles. That would be the only thing about the formula feeding. Cleaning and preparation. Not too mention the extra weight to the nappy bag on a day trip!!!

The way you managed the breastfeeding with working is fantastic!! I do agree with Mary on the extra solids at 4pm. Joshua enjoys his solids around that time too.

When I first tried Joshy on solids.. we had no dramas. Ate it all ... at lots and not fussy on what! So Im not any use in that regard! Oh.. tried his net feeder for the first time today. With a strawberry that I cut the seeds of. He loved it. Only drama is .. he wont hold it himself for very long at all!! Prefers Mama to do it. We'll get there!
Just weighed my little (or should I say BIG) boy. He has reached the 9kilo mark!! HOLY MOLY!!! No wonder my arms are getting sore!!

OMG... Brodie 7 months!!! Blink and you miss half of it!!!

My gosh it's so quiet in here!

Well i bought my electric pump yay..can't wait to use it at work next week. It's a bit of a juggling act trying to pump at work as sometimes I'm just so busy and try to be really quick but of course that's when I don't get much :( I also reckon people who sit right outside the sick room where I go in to pump probably think I've got some sort of a medical condition where I need to administer myself drugs or something since I go in there 3 times a day :lol:

oh another development is that I have switched to cloth nappies. I'm so excited about this. I've been wanting to switch for a long time, and had even considered it before A was born but we were unsettled as to where we'll live so I didn't wanna buy a whole stash of clothies to lug around. I'm building up quite a collection :lol:

On the solids front, as suggested, i changed A's 2nd feed to 4pm...which means I won't be feeding her any solids during the week :( oh well, I'm sure her grandma knows what to do...

Cherryblossom: Good on you for expressing at work...and for starting the cloth nappies. I go back to work in January, how long have you been working for and how many days do you do? I go back for 2 days a week... It's going to be soooo hard trying to leave him at daycare. Will miss him so much!

Tascha: I got Bodie one of those net feeder things and have tried watermelon & stawberries, but he prefers watermelon. Same thing here, he loves me to hold it for him instead of himself. It gets very messy though hey.

I have read back quite a way but got bogged down in the last thread with "the incident" and fast forwarded to here. Couldnt follow what went on actually, did some posts get deleted or am I just stupid? (dont answer that one hahaha)

update on us if you are interested: Celeste is 7+1/2months old, she has been sitting for about 2months or so, is rolling back and forth but not travelling or getting up on her arms at all. She will sort of pull to stand on my lap but I think she will be a late mover. I started her on solids at 4+1/2months and she now has 3meals plus 3BF and a snack or 2 each day but is still small. Probably the smallest in this group still. She has 2teeth and the top 2 are coming through now (have taken a month!) and we are having BF biting issues at present. I am torn over what to do? Persist despite grazes and blood or go to formula??? Argh, I thought my BF questions would be over by now. I dont want to just give up as it took sooo much work to start with. Still cloth bum here. She has only just gone into a cot in the last week as she was in an amby hammock. I was worried it might be tricky to change at this age but it went really well. (well still waking 3 or 4 times a night with teething). I have stopped night feeding her when she wakes and that is going fine, I think I was just offering it if she woke in pain but she didnt actually need it. Hope when the teething stops for a bit she will sleep through again.

Just wanted to say that I found you all to be a lovely supportive, friendly group when I was in here a lot and always had encouraging things to say when I was having problems, despite you all having your own. Sorry if I dropped you for a while but I needed to set myself a limit!

Anyway thats enough of me blabbing on. Have loved reading about the funny things all the bubs do. They sure are real characters now arent they? I thought I would miss the "little baby" stuff but I am just enjoying Celeste more each day as she grows and changes. Ahh, it's lovely being a Mum!

HI ya Sazz - Hey we all need breaks so dont feel terrible. that last thread..ah dont worry about it..it was something silly that i cant even remember now.

you go girl on the BF...im very jealous..Mateauz weened himself at 6 1/2 months. I understand feeling the way you do about to BF or not to BF but in the end you have to do whats best for you matie. And im sure cracked nipples and bleeding ones too wouldnt feel very nice at all.

Mateauz eats solids and has 4 bottles a day. He's still little..only 7.2kg but he makes up for it with his smile. He roll's and swivles his body around...we caught him bringing his knee up under him today so we'll see how long it takes until he starts rocking. He loves standing to and has started saying 'dada' and bubba..and if he want sour attention we get 'aye'

fathers day..god I went shopping with all 4 kids for that today....they bought him slippers, boxers with MR grumpy on them, car cleaning kit and a tool kit fo rhis car. Im going to make a collage of the kids for him in a frame to put on the wall in his office at work. Thought we might have a BBQ or something and invite my parents over.

Hope eveyrone else is well...we should all stat getting back in here...its so empty

Hmmm b/f'ing & biting OUCH! Know how you're feeling Saz,lol. My boy has bitten down a couple of times now & I just pull away & look at him and say very firmly NO! I dont scream but I do it whenever he does it. I did the same with Cara & eventually they learn its a big no-no,LOL. Jackson is pretty much where your bub is exactly! You could have been describing him :) Also I was doing the same thing with the feeding when he woke instead of just giving him a cuddle & back to bed. Dont want them to get that habit going of waking just for that feed (s)...

I haven't been on here for ages either. Hardly ever have the time to be honest. Plus have been having horrible ms so am trying to recover from that. Doesn't seem to be as bad as it was with Amy though thank god. Maybe that means a boy!! :-p

Sazz - So good to hear from you!! Celeste sounds like she is doing wonderfully! Amy doesn't look like crawling any time soon. I'm not worried though. The amount of development she's done in the past two weeks is amazing. Two weeks ago she couldn't stand at all and now if I leave her holding onto something she stands all by herself (with me right next to her of course!). She's started blowing big raspberries and making the funniest noises. She isn't saying mama or dada or anything yet. I'm like you. I'm LOVING every new stage. I don't miss the 'newborn' stage at all. It's so much more fun when they interact!

Maz - I know what youmean about Facebook. I can barely keep up too. Mateauz is so gorgeous. Love the new photos of him. I'm up for that arranged marriage if you are ;-) hehehehehe

Not sure what we're going to do for father's day here. Might shout DH a day of golf at a course of his choice maybe..........love the collage idea Maz. I spose it all depends on how bad my ms is!

I'm so tired today! Jackson is teething & he was quite hot to the touch last night and pretty much waking each hour:( He's asleep now & I'm going to try & get a bit of a 'nap' too. I've just set Cara up with her fav' DVD for a little bit so I'll nap with one eye open sort of thing!
Mums of more than one you know what I mean! LOL.You kinda learn how to sleep but be 'on call' today:)

Amber at her 6 month checkup was 7.7kg so I guess she is middle of the range. We are onto 3 meals a day. She is still breastfed and has 4-5 a day. She is rolling a bit. She prefers to roll from back to tummy and goes from side to side well. I think she will be well off crawling though. Still no teeth here either.

So thats all from us I guess.

Hello all....finally went to the MCHN (the last one died on us..heheheh KARMA). Mat is 8kg...strong and commando crawling backwards...he's to funny. He finally got his 6month needles...I know a little late but hey atleast he got them :) .

SO I went and celebrated and bought a new pram. Well actually its a stroller...a Valco side by side one. Test drove it in the shop for 10 mins and both kids really liked it so boguht it and a big mossie net thing...alll together for $260. Going to sell my limo pram on ebay I think. Its a great pram dont get me wrong just to mong for the wlaking I want to do this summer and its a bit big in the back of the car.

Anyone having thoughts about when to ptu their bubs facing forward in their seats??? Mateauz keeps arching his pelvis and cracking it when I put him in so it looks like its not far of now.

We turned Celeste's seat around about 2 weeks ago. She is MUCH happier now. What a difference! She is not quite 8kg yet though so Shhhhhhh! It is sooo nice to be able to see what she is doing and she loves being able to see us. Everyone is much happier to go in the car now. Still have it recllined back to a half lying down position.

For some reason she wants to have 4.45am feeds lately. I got her back to bed right after this morning and she slept till 9am! Dont know what that is about! We were not havign any night feeds for ages till recently.

Thanks was a bit unexpected we hadnt actually started TTC yet, was waiting to see our fertility specialist when we moved up here and what do ya know - Bean makes itself nice and comfy in there without any help :)

Sazz, great to hear you are going well with Celeste. I too weaned myself off Bellybelly- trying to get out more in the real world, and my bub Addie is such a curious and busy girl it doesnt leave much time for the computer!

We are going well most of the time (like anyone, I have my moments!!)
Addie has her second tooth, is sitting well, moves around the lounge by rolling, pushing backwards and spinning around. Not crawling yet, not far off I reckon! We were doing well on solids, but took a backstep when she had tonsillits and middle ear infection, and are slowly getting back into the food. She loves being outside, in fact, hates the television and being indoors for long!
She says mama now, and says it all the time. SHe has learnt wave byebye and claps her hands!
Thats most of our progress so far!

Hello Hello Hello... one and all.
Its sure has been a while.. and I hope everyone is wonderful and enjoying spring!
A quick update of my little man.
Just turned 8 months. He is commando crawling very well. Goes from sitting to all fours.. too tummy and back the same way. Loves his food... just not every day. He is a mad keen walker with mum and dad's assistance. Weighs now 10.4 Kilos give or take. Giving mummy a good upper body workout just by lifting him!! :lol: His excema is still there. A mild steriod cream is the ONLY thing to help him. And boy have we tried it all.

We are (not officially) TTC #2. Seeing as it took us 2 years for Josh .. we thought to let nature do its thing. Im not fazed one way or the other at the moment. Would be nice to fall by Joshy's first birthday.

Well that's about it for us.
