CONGRATULATIONS BEAR & PIXIE on the arrival of your little princess BETH! Well done hun! Hope she pulls through ok and youre getting some much needed rest now!

Mez.. aww hope little Izzy gets better soon. Nothing worse than an unsettled newborn, having a cold on top. Hope you can get some rest during the day.

Mel.. what bottles are you using? Maybe the flow is too fast for her, being shes pushing alot of the milk back out? Keira has a little that comes out when feeding too, not too much. I just use those white nappy squares as puke rags and put one of those under her chin each feed. Have fun baby shopping!

Keira's partying hours are between 2 and 4 am. lol though its been DH up with her the last few nights. Ive been going to bed after her 10-11pm feed and hes been doing the one after that. But hes going back to work tomorrow :crying: i so dont want him to. Have enjoyed having him home every day. Mums coming down for the week. She better help out more this time round otherwise im not gonna hold back!
Have my appointment this arvo at 3.40pm. Hoping my results come back negative as i really dont want to have to go back to hospital.

DF decided he was going to change DD nappy last night after I fed her so I could go back to sleep coz she was wide awake. It was the first time he'd changed a nappy & she wee'd everywhere LOL all over him, all over her, all over her clothes and the change table :cryinglaugh:
So I had to get up and help clean up & teach him how to put a nappy on & it was only a sposie coz I'd run out of cloth
Im also finding showers are working better for us than baths, coz DD likes to hang on to someone or something rather than being held in the bath by one arm.

Mel - I've noticed a big difference between DS#1 and DS#1's feeding. Hayden is slower and dozes off alot when feeding. He's getting over a blocked nose, so it doesn't help either. Where as Elijah gulped it down fast and was a piggie.
We use cloth nappies instead of bibs when feeding Hayden cause the milk runs out alot sometimes when he gets lazy, also he had this skin irritatation in his neck folds so we had to be careful with any milk getting in there too.

Kell - :hug: I'm sorry your DH is going back to work tomorrow. I hope your mum helps out lots when she comes down. Good luck with your results. I hope they're all good, or at least shed some light on what's going on so it can be sorted out right away. <3

Skittle - LOL @ your DF. Poor bugger. My DP has been wee'd on too. I couldn't help but laugh. It was a huge wee too. Lollllll. Great that your DD like the shower. DS#1 loved the shower, he wasn't really into the baths, but this time DS#2 loves having a bath. I bet he could stay in it floating around all day if he could.

I hope all your bubbas choose a more reasonable hour to have party time. At the moment for us, crankypants bubba comes out between 9pm - midnight. Then he settles for the night mostly. Last night he was fed at around 12, then didn't wake up until around 5:30am - 6am. I'm suprised at his sleeping actually. I could have sworn I would have a ratbag sleeper this time around.

Mel - Don't you hate when the little ones think that it's party time when we are so graving sleep... I hope that she gets better at feeding, little Izzy spits out her milk too when she is feeding, we have the Advent bottles with the 1 teat and don't think it comes smaller for the flow.

Kell - I hope your mum helps you out during the week sweet. I know how you feel about your DH going back to work.. I was the same when mine went last week. But he has been wonderful during the weekend helping out with Izzy, I have to say it's a huge help not having to tend to her all the time and someone else taking the feeding times.

Tenny - I know the weeks are just flying by really hey!! I can't believe that our little princess is going to be 3 weeks old on Tuesday.

Well my MIL left this morning to head back to NZ and I have to say I"m going to miss not having her here as she has been doing everything for me around the house. I haven't had to do anything. Now I'm going to have to do it all myself. Oh and my mum is here for another week and then heads off to Greece until the end of October.

It's been raining most of the day here so we are pretty much staying inside today. Hope you are all having a good day. I also hope that your little princes and princess are behaving themselves too...

Mel - Georgia sleeps really well at night so we are lucky, and that is on breast milk too, so probably a little unusual that she goes like 5 hours without waking, but I am more than happy with that. she is currently sleeping on DH chest while he watches/sleeps through the football. On the clothes front, G doesn't even fit into most 0000's. Only in the bonds wondersuits. all the other brands swamp her, so she is just rotating through our collection of those. thank goodness I anticipated her petiteness and had a few in stock. have fun buying her some new clothes.

Mez - sorry Izzy has a cold. poor little thing. :( hang in there on the sleep front, it can only get better. I am sure that she will settle better when she feels a little better. :hug:

I guess the flow of bottles is the draw back of using bottles, they can't regulate how much is coming in to them, but you have messy probs with the bf too, cos if they get too full then as soon as you get your bb out for a feed they start leaking, and then the bub doesn't bother trying to latch on, they just want to lick off what is already there, and then the milk just goes everywhere. I spent more time cleaning myself off rather than her this morning.

Skittle - mine likes the shower and the bath.... she does however hate getting out... hates being cold, and Melbourne is really icy the last few days. it is nice being in the shower with them, but I feel a bit worried that she might get too slippery and I'll drop her... arrgh.

Kell - my DH goes back to work tomorrow too. I wish he never ever had to go back again, it is so nice doing the parenting together. I think I am going to feel lonely without him, even with visitors and my mum being around etc.

Thanks for the various congratulations, we're both floating around like our legs aren't long enough to reach the ground today.

So, here's the update - Pixie is doing wonderfully, she's up and about, walking comfortably and has a permanent ear to ear grin. She's been starting to express a little colustrum - managed to fill a 5ml syringe on her first attempt which is great - she did burst a few blood vessels in her eyes while pushing, but it's not causing any discomfort. She's managed to get a decent amount of rest as the bub is still down in the HDU.

Beth is still on HDU and as there is paed's round on a Sunday, she'll be staying there until tomorrow morning at least. The fluid that came out at the end of the delivery was pretty foul, it seems that her bowels were working well before labour started and she had managed to fill her stomach with it, in addition to ingesting it at the end of the delivery.
Her lungs are so much better than they were last night, she's now breathing normal air - she was breathing an oxygen rich mix in the humidi-crib overnight and her resp rate is now down into the 60's..last night it was in the 90's - I'm expecting to see 50's by the end of the day.
Her stomach is also full of muck, the staff have been draining it out every few hours, but it's still too irratated for her to have her first feed, so she's also on a glucose drip - she's just starting to try to suck on her fingers, so it's looking like she should be over this problem soon - we're going to see if she will feed normally later tonight.
The other patients of the HDU are all tiny premmie babies that are really clutching at life, so we feel a bit out of place.

The food in the hospital is just awful, so I've come home to make dinner - I'll go back with a food drop for the Pixie later tonight, it will be nice to eat together.

Thanx for ur advice guys on the shampoo, but am going to try QV bath oil & lotion, see how that goes, I only bath Jonathan every 3rd day was going to do it every 2nd but not anymore.

Anastasia.. we're only bathing Keira every 3rd day atm.. giving her a wipe down on the 2nd. Its just too cold atm to bath her every day.

Well got my results yesterday and theyre all clear! Woohoo! Well she said there was no growth on the swab she took but it doesnt mean there wasnt or isnt an infection, just means the part of the discharge she took didnt have anything on it.. as she said it was very inflammed. So she said least it rules out anything in the uterus so just keep taking the anti biotics as they have releaved all my iching and soreness down there and it should be fine afterwards. Such a BIG releaf i dont have to go back to hospital. Who knows what i wouldve done with the kids, with DH back at work today.

Well better go feed the boy, hes destroying DH's computer.

Kell - That's wonderful news about your results sweet. I too am feeling a little lonely today as I'm home on my own with little Isabel. She is finally asleep now so might try and get some sleep myself.

Tasia - I know I'm not a bad mum, I was just feeling so over tired and overwhelmed that it was me thinking it mostly. DH is such a good hubby that he keeps reassuring me that I'm doing a great job. How is Jonathan doing??

Well our little princess is feeling much better now that we are clearing her noise with FESS. She is eating better too which I'm happy about. Has anyone else noticed how dry their babies skin is?? I'm just using baby oil on her to try to fix it.

Mez - yeah DD has really dry skin. We got some natural massage oil (contains almond oil) and we put that in her bath water in the days we bathe her, and then give her a massage with the oil on the days that we don't. Its made a huge difference after just a few days of using it. Hope you are not too lonely today.. wish you lived in Queensland!!

Still having feeding issues here - but hopefully they will clear up soon.

Bear and Pixie - congrats on your beautiful bubba girl!!!! She is gorgeous - such big lips!!!!! *mwah* She is perfect.. I hope she is getting better...

Sal - Ahhh pee pee is funny.... lol...... very funny with little boys too cos it shoots wayyyy up in the air...

Jess - we brought some bonds suits yesterday (some pink, some blue.. lol) so they are a better fit. Even a BETTER fit when she is wearing a cloth nappy - pumps her butt up a bit... lol

Tenny - yeah we have been using the spit rags around her neck to catch the milk, so bulky though - we've been thinking of trying bibs instead.. lol

Well I went to the physio today and I've got that condition where your pelvis separates (she was amazed that I've put up with the pain all this time and haven't done anything about it) so she massaged me a bit, gave me a pregnancy belt and told me to keep up the drugs from the doctor (panadeine forte and ibuprofen - good strong drugs!) and I have to go back and see her on Friday. There is a limit to what she can do until my scar heals though - most of the treatment for it happens when you lie on your tummy so I have to heal a bit more first. Bloody painful though... I JUST WANT TO WALK!!!!

Well the little miss is finally sleeping and DS is watching Alvin and the Chipmunks. DH is about to go down and get some junky groceries (diet starts next week I have decided!! This week has been pretty stressful with DD's feeding issues, so diet has to be put off... hehe)
Better go change DS's nappy before he has pee running down his leg.. (eek.. or worse!!!)

Mez.. thanks hun. oh big :hug: to you too hun. It is strange being home alone hey.. especially when theyre sleeping.. youre like ok now what do i do! Oh the dry skin.. was Izzy over due? I cant remember? Both Keira and Jesse were and its normal for them to lose a layer of skin. Keira is atm and Jesse did also. I just used sorbeline on their skin to help a little but it will just flake off. Glad she is getting better hun.

Kel - she's not the greatest, still can't suck to save her life, and seems to just have an issue with the whole "ohhh it goes down the THROAT" concept...:rolleyes: DH apparently had a rough time this morning with both kids while I was at the physio - apparently she cried for about an hour and he couldn't get her to drink from the bottle without it going everywhere - which just led to more crying because she was hungry... lol

Ahhh.. its a battle.. but we'll get there...

ETA - and I'm so thankful that I'm not BFing because its doing my head in trying to get her to attach to a teat - let alone a big bloody boob!!!! And at least when I get frustrated with it, I can pass her on to DH for a go!!

Mel - oh sweet I really do hope that you get better soon and aren't in so much pain. I'm sure Mehkelti will start to feed properly soon. How much is she having each time?? It would be nice if we all lived closer together, but if we come to Qld we will let you know cause it will be nice to meet up with you.

Mez - I left comments but she is GORGEOUS.. such a cute face...

She has between 60 and 100 ml - depends on what time of day it is and how long between feeds. She has been down for awhile now so when she wakes she will probably have a really big feed (as long as I can get the damn stuff to stay in her mouth !!!)

Mel - That really doesn't sound much fun, really hope that gets better quickly - also I saw your post re prunes...try increasing the fiber using Metamucil or something similar, it will be rather more gentle on your interior than a laxative.

Our big news for the day is that Beth is now out of the intensive care ward and is sleeping happily away in a normal cot next to the Pixie in the PostNatal ward. No more wires, no more canula in her hand, just a normal baby again....We will put together a full story of the birth, but for the moment it's enough to know that her initial apgar scores were only 3 and 5, so she has done amazingly well. She's had her first bath, and a few tentative attempts at BF which have been working reasonably well, as long as she remembers to stay awake during the process....

grrr!!!! apparently its a good idea to want to feed every hour and a half - 2 hours and then not go back to sleep at 4 am.....................:rolleyes:
