Yep defintately a man thing, we have the same bug, but he's dying

LOL last time I posted on here Dion was asleep and the girls all playing in the bath, DOH I will never leave them alone in the bath again, The floor was flooded, it has taken me 12 towels to soak it up, ( there's another load of washing to do this arvo) Of course all the noise ( umm me telling the girls off, and confiscating their new toys) woke the boy up DOUBLE DOH>>> Well now the big girls are running around, picking up toys, sweeping and helping out like mad in the hope they can have their toys back for good behaviour... Whadaya reckon ladies??? Should I reverse the decision coz they've made sooo much effort LOL, yeah of course I will, but I'll wait til theyve finished unstacking the dishwasher LOL. Being a mum is a giggle hey....... I wish you could see them. ( Rianna went to bed so she's not getting into MORE mischief)

I'm hanging for helpers. Jonah was trying to watch my stepdad when he was washing the dishes the other day and I said to him he better be careful because as soon as he can do them it's going to be his job, lol. I love oddies, Ben's one of the oddest people I know and I love him, pmsl. And nahhh, I'm not that nice I would definitely not reply to the nasty. Thanks for saying I'm nice though :)

Bel, I forgot to say, lately when Dion is at his worst we try to calm him by putting on his favourite Dvd ( baby bright and brainy baby) giving him a drink, and a biscuit, thats the only time ATM that I get any peace. last night he was sooooo irritated, had been screaming for about an hr, no matter what we did, that I hopped into the shower with him, the warm water running on his back obviously did the trick, coz he put his head on my shoulder and chilled, keep battling babe im sure you'll find something that chills Coby.
PS the other thing is playing tumblebugs on the computer, mesmerizes him!!!! LOL

He has been a "chesty bub" since the bronchiolitis at 6 weeks, and will probably be diagnosed with asthma at 2 ( paeds and my opinoion)

Coleman is the same, always getting bronchilitis, croup, coughs and colds, and his GP and paed have both said they think he's asthmatic and we have ventolin now for the coughing fits at night.
Does your paed not diagnose asthma til 2yrs? I heard they differ and diagnose anywhere between 12-24months, I'm just wondering why and if perhaps our GP and paed might have been a bit hasty....he has been ok and hasnt needed his ventolin puffer for over a month now, and I'd prefer not to use it if its not necessary...

Caz, they try not to diagnose til 2 yrs, as thats when the muscles in the lungs change texture. We tried Dion on ventolin last yr, but it didnt work, as until you are 2 the smooth muscle isnt developed, but of course as they grow it is developING so they have soem now ( which is the bit the ventolin has effect on) They said they will use venbtolin on him prior to being 2, but will not be officially "diagnosed" with asthma until then. I would only use teh ventolin on Cole when you felt he needed it. The twins are mild asthmatics and I only give preventer and ventolin as required, usually only when they have a cold or hay fever

Brooke – Congratulations on setting a date. We are always talking about having a holiday in WA, if you invite us you could have lots of BB members at your wedding. Amy has always gone to bed at around 9pm and she is usually tired by then. Some days she goes to sleep at 8pm and she mostly gets up at 9am. Her routine was based around me feeding her at night with working full time but as we have moved out further from the city, I don’t get home until 6pm now. When Amy wakes during the night we just go into her room but not say anything. If she is really bad, one of us will sleep on a matress next to her cot and this settles her. I think they need to know the difference between night and day and I would be trying to get her back to sleep. Regarding the feeding, I have made some really yummy meals for Amy out of an Organic baby cook book I have. I made a macaroni and cheese last night and she loved it – it has small macaroni shapes, garlic, herbs, cheese, homemade white sauce, mushrooms and peas. She tends not to like the single foods as much as these meals. First time she has had garlic breath! Just read a later post from you, Well done Maya for sleeping through!!! I will check out your hol pics.

Vanita – Tonsilitis is really painful poor thing, at least Dion is eating yoghurt. Give the girls their toys back!! My nephew has had bronchitis a lot since he was born and he may have ashma (he is 6mths old now).

Rachel – Maybe Blake is having a growth spurt and that’s why he is asking for food?
AF arrived last week and we are skipping TTC this month because we both want to lose some weight first. I haven’t skated for 25 years!!! So I would have no idea what they are wearing now. My competition costumes were mainly one colour with diamontes (sp?) on them. I’m sure when you go to the fabric shop you will find the perfect fabric and design.

Bel – Sorry about your friends baby, that is such a terrible thing. I’ll have a think about what you could do for them. I don’t know what to suggest to help with Coby, you poor thing. Hopefully the clingyness won’t last long. :hug:

Kate – Kelsey’s birth sounds amazing and you did so well. Spotlight sometimes has curtains on special especially with their main sales. Glad Kelsey had a great time playing with her cousins. The pain is not good but I’m not sure what you can do, try to take it easy. My cousin’s boys are 13 months and she had C/S and couldn’t lift her 1st either. Bananas help when Amy gets diarrhoea.

Hay – Sorry to hear that you are all sick, hope you get better soon.

Bec – Welcome back! :hello: I was wondering why you don’t post in here anymore, we have missed you and hearing how Jonah is going. It will be great to see him on Friday and see him taking some steps.

We have started toilet training Amy. We have a seat to go on our toilet as we decided not to use a potty. She always wees when her nappy comes off so I put her on the toilet but nothing happened and I wouldn’t expect it to for a while. When I was in the toilet, she squatted and did a wee just outside the toilet when I was going so I think she sort of understands. Had a great weekend and went to the beach which Amy loved. Went to an engagement party and Amy was dancing with her friend. Lost 3.7kg on Tony Ferguson last week and we are skipping TTC this month to try to lose more weight. :)

Gemma, WTG on the weight loss, that's brilliant! See told ya it works! That's cute that Amy was dancing with her friend, and good on you for toilet training, I put Coby on our toilet the other day because he was desperately trying to poo (sorry for tmi) and couldn't push it out while sitting. We've also got the attachment for the toilet seat, hope it works ok, might try putting him on there before the bath, he always wees before I put him in the bath, must be the sound of the running water...

Brooke, how'd you go at the GP? Any progress on the ear infection?

Brooke- the wedding location sounds dreamy. Of course we would love to come to the Denmark down there and celebrate with you, but it isn't a time we are usually travelling to Australia. Will think about it though.:)

Kate - how's Kelsey's diarrhoea? Hope it has stopped.

Gemma - thats a huge weight loss for the first week! You must be happy about that. Wow for potty training. I think Al is still a long way from that.

Hay - sorry to hear AF arrived.:( Hope you're ok.

We have been swimming a lot and Al is getting more and more confident in the pool, so it is paying off.
He is walking a lot better as well, doing Frankenstein, like some of your kids.
He is back into eating dinner, which is a relief. And saying hi and hello more now.
The trip away was short and sweet. Very primitive living arrangements, and of course not much of a holiday for me, as I was keeping an eye on DS the whole time. DH even got long naps in!!!!! Grrrrr. I am a bit worn out and could do with some time off, but its not easy without family being around.Sorry for the whinge.Thank god for you lot, I have somewhere to vent a bit.

Hi girls, nothing much happeneing here. I'm still sick and feeling crappy. Was going to take Pup to the drs today about some strange red mark on his foot, but I forgot about the appt and anyway, the red mark seems to be going...if it is still there tonight, I'll make another appt tomorrow.

Feeling a bit down in the dumps - probably because of feeling sick, but also vbecause of blasted AF. i feel so out of control with it all and that blasted biological clock is ticking over my head!

DH seems to be just ****ting me with anythign and everything lately. Nothing specific but I just wish sometimes he'd THINK about things and help me out instead pf spending all his free time doing CFA or baseball crap.

Vent over..sorry bout that.

oh Brooke, its ok, you're not hurting her, I had to do it with Coby a few months back, his sleeping was ridiculous and now we have a wonderful sleeper who doesn't even make a fuss when I put him down. Like you said, she knows what she is doing and she knows, therefore, that when she cries in the middle of the night, mummy and daddy will come and get me and I can go and sleep in their bed with them. Believe me, it will only be a day or two and she'll get the message and then you'll all be happy and well rested!! I used the baby whisperer techniques of picking up and as soon as they stop crying put them back down, but never bring them verticle, just always lying when you pick them up, that way they get the idea that they aren't getting up, but you are there for them if they really need you. If she really was distressed, she wouldn't continue to sleep, she'd keep waking and crying like she would if she were sick. Dan sounds wonderful, very supportive, thats great because you do need it when you are doing something like this...Good luck with it, and keep us updated on Maya's progress.

Hay, you ok honey? You do sound down in the dumps, hopefully we can cheer you up a bit. Don't worry about DH, mine's the same, they're very annoying aren't they!!

Bel – Thanks for the congrats, I still have a long way to go. It was great to hear that you had a good day with Coby and I hope today is the same. I hope the toilet training goes well. Last night Amy loved putting the toilet paper in the toilet while she was sitting on it so she is starting to work it out.

Deb – That’s great that Al is going so well in the pool, it must help in so many ways especially for their general health too. You must be pleased that he is eating dinner again, I suppose they are going to go through so many different phases. Sorry to hear about your trip, do rest up and take it easy if you can.

Kate – I hope you are having fun at the National Park with your Mums group, what a great idea and it is such a nice day today. Thanks for the congrats. I don’t think it would be suitable for bf but I will check. It is definitely a no no for pg as most diets are. WA is a beautiful state and we would like to explore it properly too. Nothing has happened yet with the potty training but Amy seems to be getting close. I’m sure Kelsey’s teeth are not too far away.

Hay – Hope pup is okay. Sorry to hear you are not feeling good ATM, chin up things can only get better . My biological clock is ticking too, maybe take Deb’s advice and do yoga and not worry about TTC as much. That is what we are going to do when we TTC next month.

Brooke – I haven’t heard of controlled comforting before. It is good that it worked for Maya and I was right there with you and Dan when I was reading your post. It is so hard when they cry. As I said before, we now leave Amy and don’t pick her up and one of us just sleeps on a matress in her room when we have to. I remember reading in the baby whisperer that you should pick the baby up just enough to settle them before putting them down and not pick them up for your benefit and that is why we don’t pick her up. The 30 seconds that you hold her for sounds kind of similar. I really thing that what you are doing will suit Maya as she is smart and should learn to settle. DH has been giving Amy single foods but I like her to have meals now and she enjoys them. Great news that you found a good GP.

Amy now chases the dogs and cat and just squeals as she runs after them. They don’t seem to mind because when she catches them she just pats them. We took her to a dog event on Sunday and she squealed every time she saw a dog. I think she will be an animal lover like her mum and dad!

OK I am going to attempt some personals and give an update, I apologise in advance if they are outdated or unnecessary, I cant keep up with all the posts!!

Gemma - sounds like you have an animal lover for sure! Coleman loves our kitten too, he has no fear of it at all and chases him everywhere - doesnt mind if he gets scratched or bitten at all!


Brooke - so sorry to hear you're having such a crappy time with Maya's sleeping. I used CC with Lucy when she was younger than Maya even - it can be hard to hear, but you will feel sooooo much better if it works! And so will she benefit from having longer sleep if you can get her used to it. Good luck!

Hayseed - sorry to hear you're feeling crappy, hope things pick up for you soon.

Kate - bugger to read of Kelse' diarreah (sp), that cant be fun. Hop eyou enjoyed your picnic in the park!

Sunbeam Koala - glad to hear Al loves to swim, and sounds like he's been walking for awhile too! I wish Cole would hurry up and walk so I can stop worrying about his physio problems.


As for us - Coleman turned 1 on the 1st July, we had a great party with all his cousins, aunties & uncles over. He is crawling but still mainly commando crawling and although he loves to stand doesnt have very good pelvic stability so we are still seeing the physio every other month and doing physio every day with him to get him up to speed. Who would have thought he would still be having repocusions from his torticollis at birth now, 12months later! Oh well - I will be so relieved when he does start walking so I can relax a little. Lucy was a late bloomer physically (just through laziness though, not injury) and didnt walk til 15months, so I wont worry about Cole not walking til after then.

I am on full time teaching rounds at the moment, only have 8wks of uni left FOREVER! I am so relieved it is almost over!! Then I have a few months off before my teacher registration is all through and I can start working fulltime. I am in the midst of applying for jobs for next year so up to my armpits in paperwork right now:eek:

Slowly:) He has been slow with his milestones due to his injury at birth that he's been having physio for, but he's crawling at least so we're stoked. Is Jonah walking yet?

Wow, just had a look at some pics of Jonah, he looks so much like Ben! I think our boys are quite similar in size (well DER they were only born 8hrs apart!)

Nope not walking yet but extremely close, I'd say by the end of this month. Yep everyone says he looks like Ben. How big is Cole now? At his last weigh and measure just before his birthday he was 80cms and 11.5kgs.

At his 12month checkup (which we had at 13months cos my mum was in town and I kept forgetting!) he was 79.5cm and 10.3kilos, so yep pretty much the same. Compared to Lucy though he looks HUGE cos Lucy at almost 3yrs old is only about 90cm tall and weighs a whopping 13kilos, she is a titch! There is a picture of them on our family site I think sitting together on a couch - if you couldnt see her long legs you would think he is older!

I tried looking for that pic but I couldn't find it. Lucy does look small though and Cole is definitely catching up fast. Cole really looks like you.

Phil is 6ft exactly, and I am about 5ft6" I think, so maybe he'll take after his daddy (though yes he does look like me doesnt he? I'm glad I got one kid that looks like me!!)

Ben's really tall isnt he? I wonder if Jonah will take after his daddy there too?

Yep, Ben is 6ft7, so yeah Jonah will definitely take after him. He's off the charts for his height already. I'm 5ft7 so not short but not tall either.

Just wanted to jump on and say to Brooke that i guess to some extent i use a form of CC - although not to the letter of how it is widely used. What I do is put Pup down in his cot after going through the same ritual every night (dinner, 45 mins play, bath, PJs, breastfeed, bed) and usually he just goes straight to sleep. Sometimes he stands up straightaway (before I've even got out of his room) and starts playing up. This is usually due to 2 things; 1) he is still hungry/thirsty; or 2) he is trying it on.

I usually give him about 3 mins to see if he stops. 70% of the time, he will just lay down and go to sleep. 20% of the time he will keep going and I can settle him after giving him about 80 - 100ml of milk. 10% of the time nothing seems to make the slightest bit of difference. For those times, I pick him up and clean him up (he has usually cried so much he has tears and snot running down his face) and give him a bit of a cuddle to settle him down (stop the crying). I then put him down again and see if he will go to sleep. Most times, just this once will be ok, but we've had half a dozen occasions where I have been in and out of his room for over an hour doing this. in the end, I have been known to pick him up and bring him out to the lounge room to settle him. I know it is stimulating him, but it is the only thing I can think to do. by this stage, he is not stopping crying in his room even with me cuddling him. Once we are out of his room, he settles down. I make him sit with me or DH on the sofa and just settle down (no playing...just watch tv). After about 15 - 20 minutes, I take him back to his room and put him in his cot again. So far, this has worked everytime for those usual settling nights.

I used to be 100% against CC, and some people even with kids still are. But honestly, with DH not in the house very much, if I ran to Pup every time he cried because he had to be put down to sleep, I would be forever running back and forward. Of course, i never let him go for too long and you know in your own heart what is a wingey cry and what is a pain cry or a scared cry. And I never let him become hysterical. But so long as he's fed, warm, safe, dry....well yeah, sometimes i do let him cry a little bit. Sort of that cruel to be kind philosophy.

It's kinda hard to explain this without coming off sounding like a shrew who lets her kids scream themselves to sleep, but I'm sure you all know what i mean!!

On CC - IMO I think you gotta do whatever works for you and keeps you sane. We are suckers and jump up when he cries, but we all live in the same room, so its a bit hard to ignore him.

Mini muffins savoury/sweet (I made some corn and cheese ones for Jonah, they are in the recipe thread and they went down a treat). Cruskits, saladas, cooled boiled egg slices. Ummmmm cooled veggie/zucchini slice, raisin toast (Jonah loves this with a little bit of butter). Ummm I think that's all I can think of for now, HTH though :)

What about veggie fingers, you can buy them in the supermarket and there's a discussion about them in the recipe and food thread. Have you tried dried fruit? What about English muffins? What about homemade chicken nuggets?

Meatballs, fish, salmon patties? or pasta? Al loves spag, I usually break it into smaller lengths before I cook it. Today he even ate pasta with some meat in the middle can't think what that's called.

Kate-Thanks for all the comments re Jonah :D I am most proud of the whale cake, it looks exactly like the one in the book, but enough of me tooting my own horn, lol. You're welcome for mentioning the muffins, I must make some more too, I was thinking sultana ones would be good. Sounds like Kelse has teething poo if nothing else seems to be bothering her. I think Jonah is STILL teething and atm we are having between 2-3 poos when normally it's just one. Wooohooo for Kelse standing on her own, that's awesome :D Standing freely for a few seconds is a HUGE accomplishment, she'll be running around before you know it. If you're worried about the diarrhoea then for peace of mind maybe you should take her to get checked? Then you will be certain and stop worrying. Glad that you had a lovely picnic too, good on you for sitting on the ground though, I guess you had no choice, if I found it that difficult and I knew there was going to be no where to sit I probably would have just stayed home. Glad you didn't get as bad pains as last weekend when getting up.

Kate-I love being creative, I don't know if I am good at it but I do love it :) How did you go with the GP? Good idea to keep her fluids up.
