Tracey - thats good that your new job is a lot better.

Raels - Jason does that too! How annoying hey. He went and got a pair of shorts off the line and I asked if he took everything else down, he said no so I sent him out there to get the rest.

Sara - I've been bathing Avaleigh in the big bath for a little while now. Just put a little bit of water in the bottom and pop them in. I just support her slightly on the back cause she sits so well. But beware, they may be stiff and awkward to start with cause its such a bigger bath!

I havent taken the dogs out for a walk this morning (tiredness from the weekend has caught up with me) and they are definitely letting me know about it!! I may take them out later if its not so hot..

Better have some breakfast and make my way to the gym.

Morning everyone! I have mums group today which is the first one i have been able to make it to since before xmas so looking forward to catching up with everyone. I am so tired today - i had to get up to Tom about 6 times last night because he keeps rolling. At one stage he was horizontal, banging his head on the bars. I have his sheets tucked in so tight i am surprised he can breathe but he is still escaping.

Sacha - the pie was beautiful but the lemon self sauce pudding i made for dessert was disgusting so it kind of balanced things out LOL! I am using my slow cooker for the first time today so the house smells like lamb casserole and its making me very hungry..

Blue - we alternate between MCN and disposable and i swear Tom saves up his massive big poo's for the cloth. I normally scrape as much as i can off into the toilet and then give them a rinse under the tap. Tracey might have some ideas for you because i think she is a bit of MCN queen.
We bath Tom in the big bath and i just put enough water in the bottom for him to lay in - probably up to his ears when laying down and he kicks and splashes and goes nuts. Absolutely loves it! I just sit him up to wash his hair. He has actually been rolling over in the bath and lays on his tummy 'swimming' like Grant Hacket. It is funny to watch but just have to be careful he doesnt dunk the head under. I was trying to fill the bath like you would normally and leaning over and holding him in it, which killed my back and he is super hard to hold until my sister told me about how she did it for her two kids. Much easier.

Bec - thanks for the info on the Aldi nappies and wipes. I have trouble finding good wipes - its like toilet paper, it has to be just right!! I am thinking of doing a shop at ALDI once a month and stocking up on their cleaning products etc. I have heard that their laundry soaker is meant to be great and good price too.

Raels - you lucky thing with all your furniture. Happy birthday to Lexxen too - i hope he enjoyed his day. My DH does that with the washing and if he needs something out of the dishwasher, he just takes what he needs out and leaves the rest. Grrr! Glad to know i'm not the only one.

Megan - good luck with the devil today! What is he doing? Some days i think Tom is the spawn of Satan and other days couldnt wish for a better baby. I just wish i knew which day it was that he was going to be psycho so i could prepare in advance! Hope your day turns out ok :hug:

Em, have you tried a sleeping bag? I find that Kaetlyn doent move around as much when she is one.

Em, I LOVE the slow cooker - it makes balancing the cooking/baby thing so much easier because it's so 'set and leave'. I make big lots of stuff when dh is away because I can never be bothered cooking for one. Sorry to hear the sad news of your pudding - don't you hate the disappointment of a lost dessert? :) Autie steam rolls around her bed all the time, now with added bulldozers LOL Have you got a bumper? I use an Airwrap and mostly just let her do her thing so she gets used to it. As a few people mentioned when I asked about it a little while ago, it can take ages before they sleep in one place. Thanks for the photo comment too BTW :)

Megan, I have just had about 5 days of devil baby with the angel only appearing again yesterday - you just can't second guess what these babies are going to be up to from day to day! I've made up my mind to just go on as usual and wait for it to pass. What's he doing to stress you out?

OK the horns started to disappear around lunch time and he is much better!!

Sacha - not sure what was going on. He wouldn't go down for his morning sleep which hasn't happened for ages! It took two goes of screaming before i got him up for a bit and on the 3rd attempt he slept but woke after 40 min and was so grumpy so we went for a walk....screamed! Cut that short and came home and he was just clingy and unhappy. After a poo and some food he has settled down! Little buggers aren't they!! I am glad your angel is back!! What sort of slow cooker do you have? I'm up for anything that sounds easy in terms of cooking!!

Em - i hope satan didn't arrive for you today!! Sounds like you are having a rough time with Tom in the bed, as much as i wish Lucas would get mobile maybe its a good thing! You inspired me yesterday and i was going to make a chicken and veg pie today, then at lunch time i forgot and i had a chicken and veg 4 and 20 pie! What an idiot! I think it will be Shepard's pie now!! With the whole bath thing, can the water go in their ears?? How much do you put in? Also which slow cooker do you have?

V - well done on all the diving stuff!! You really need to stop telling us you are off to the gym, everyday it makes me feel like a lazy lump!! Avaleigh sounds like she is pretty advanced with all her antics!!

Tracey - so glad work is going well...i guess one day i need to think about going back!!

Raels - i must say my DH is pretty good with stuff like that, but i am pretty sick of the black fluff from his socks all over the bedroom floor!

Rebecca - sounds like you are coping pretty well back at work. It must be so hectic so make sure you get some time to yourself at some stage!!

Hi Megan! Glad little Lucas is better. Mine is asleep in his sleep bag with it tucked up in the end of the cot. It was the only way i could get him to stop rolling. I had to move his bed as there is a power point underneath it that we plug his monitor into - he had rolled up there and had his hand stuck down the side of the cot, playing with the switches. I nearly died! I think he must of read your comment the other day about him being a legend sleeper and he thought ' ha, i'll show her'.
My slow cooker is a Breville one - mum & dad gave it to me for xmas so this is the first time i have used it. I really like to cook but often things dont turn out the way they are meant to :lol:. Our old house had a tiny tiny kitchen with no bench space and an old oven that you just had to put everything in on highest setting and leave for hours, so i am having fun in the new one with a proper fan forced oven. I love sheppards pie - will have to put that down on the meal planner!
In regards to the bath, Tom has never seemed to have any problems with water in his ears. I'm not sure how much water i put it - hopeless with measuring - probably about 10cm's or so. I cant find my ruler to check how much that really is! Just so there is enough for them to splash around in - it covers T's legs but not all his belly - that kind of sticks out of the water. It is heaps easier, and i can sit and read a mag or paint my nails so its a nice bit of mummy time!

Thanks em! Think i spoke too soon about Lucas being better he has just screamed in his cot, seems to be quiet now but we'll see! I can't believe Tom was playing with the switches, what a clever boy, well you know what i mean. I hope the sleeping bag tugged in works!! I will try out the bath tonight, we have a real estate guy coming to value our house at 8pm so neither of us will have time to have a shower with him (lucas that is, not the real estate guy!). Think i might have to invest in a slow cooker, with lucas' dodgy day time sleeps i have no time for preparing food! Have a good night!!

Megan sounds like the devil baby is going around - your symptoms are a lot like mine. Then they just suddenly left so don't give up hope yet! Hope you get to lose your grumpy face soon. I think ours is Breville too and we have a recipe book called, funnily enough, 'the slow cooker recipe book'. You can do stews, soups, casseroles, terrines, steamed puddings, cakes (never tried those), pot roasts, lasagne, preserves - list is endless. And you have to love one pot dishes that don't leave you with a mountain of washing up!
While we're on the topic of cooking and being busy, I'll put plug in for the dolmio's pasta bakes - you don't even have to cook the pasta first, just chuck it all in and bung it in the oven. I like to substitute some sort of meat for part of the pasta and cook it at a lower temp so the flavour goes through everything and you can forget it about it for a couple of hours. Oh, and whack some pesto on top of chicken, add some vegies on top and wrap it all in a foil parcel to throw in the oven, that's one of my favourites for saving time and energy. I'm really going on aren't I? LOL I do love food.

Raels, I think that is just a bloke thing. It is probably something Nathan would do as well. it's like how at our house cleaning the kitchen for Nathan consists of just filling the dishwasher.

Tracey, glad the new job is wrking about better. So many things have changed I'm finding my job way less enjoyable than I remember it. Well i guess its just more motivation for me to save up money so we can build and then I can have another bub and be a sahm. I miss my last boss.

I do make sure I get some time to myself, more often than not this is sleeping time lol but sometimes having hardley seen xavier all week I want to spend heaps of time with him and yet I think MIL is forgetting that even though she hasn't seem him all week and wants to say hi and play neither have I. He went to sleep about 15 mins after getting home tonight, so I plan to actually assist him to wake up soon and have some play time so he might sleep better overnight. He was so tired today that I couldn't even give him any farex.

Nicki, if your out there reading, after talking to you on here for more than 12 months and never actually having met you, I met your mum today!! When I droped xavier off at cc this morning, after working out who I was she told me she was your mum. Lovley lady.

Well after reading through all the posts I missed I have forgotten who said what so sorry for no names!

Baby Bath, we have mainly showered Noah since birth and since about 1month I have been bathing him in the big bath with me if we have bathed him. Just before christmas I thought I might give him a bath in the baby bath on the dining table and he kicked the water absolutely everywhere, all over the table and floor it was pretty funny and he had a great time but I don't think I'll be doing that again! I had a bath with him a few days ago and he really loved it so I might have to bath him more!

Holidays, lastminutedeals and wotif.com are great websites to get cheap holidays on we booked our last anniversary on there and wegot our room for less than a third of the usual amount.

Car seats, We turned both of Noah's carseats around a few weeks ago when we got back from NZ ours say to turn them around at 8kg. After seeing that video I will have a look at the booklet that came with them and see how long you can have them rear facing and I might put them back if it says you can still have them rear facing but if it says you have to have it forward facing from 8kg then I'll just leave it!

Well Noah had his 6month needles today and they weighed and measured him etc and he is 8.6kg and 68cm long!

Sacha - my little Olimoo had a bit of a rough day. He didn't get a temp like after the 2 and 4 month needles but he was very unsettled and grizzly. Poor thing, I'm glad it will be another 6 months before we all have to take our bubs to get stabbed again! Oh and yum, a magmun! I love those things....

I gave Oliver a rusk today. I bought the Belamys organic ones. They are actually called 'Toothypegs' which I thought was cute! He just loved it. I had forgotten all about them until someone on here mentioned them the other day.

Well I had heaps to say but now I've forgotten it all cause I'm so tired. I'm sure I'll remember when I get into bed.

Jas - It is cute hey? Oliver was so excited when I gave it to him! He kept making these little grunting noises everytime he put it in his mouth.

A quick question about solids. What is everyone feeding there bubs now and how many times a day? Oliver is still having his rice cereal at breakfast and vegies for dinner. I can't remember what I did with Lexxen! And is anyone giving meat yet?

Raels - i am giving cereal for breakfast, fruit for lunch (although the health nurse said that wasn't enough for lunch but i think it is for now!) and vegies for dinner. Lucas had his first meat last night....mince ground up in the blender with vegies, it went down a treat!

Raels – thanks for asking the question about how often for solids, it’s one of my questions too. We’ve just started on farex, (although we wear it rather than swallow it!), but I’m a bit overwhelmed with the whole food thing. I’d like a pause button so I could just collect my thoughts on the whole matter.

Yum for all the talk about slow cookers. Makes me want to make a casserole right now.

Very excited about today, we’re off to the health nurse to get Liam weighed & measured.

Nicky, sorry to hear you've had a sad time :( It's not silly to feel on the outer, sometimes you just have your own little bubble for a while but just remember you can share the down times with us too :)

Raels, Autie has about two tablespoons of cereal with fruit at breakfast, two big ice cubes of veges at lunch and three at dinner with a little cereal mixed in. During the day she might also chew on melon or mango in her mesh bag feeder, or have a rusk for a bit. Yesterday i gave her steak in it and that was her first meat but it was only juice really. I will be starting to introduce meat over the next couple of weeks.

Oh wow about Heath Ledger! The last person I would've picked to do that. Just shows no-one can ever tell what' sgoing on in someone's head. So sad.

Oh and re: the solids, I forgot to add that we started early at 5months because she was quite obviously needing to. So those amounts are for about 6 or 7 weeks in.

Cousin took his own life last week, and I found out at the same time this morning as I did last weds about cousin.

I don't have anything nice to say about either situation. It sucks that something so shocking can take away all respect etc.

I just popped on hear to post a qustion and found aut about Heath on my home page. It was a shock, Just like steve irwin's death.

No what I wated to ask was... Kaetlyn has been on rice cereal since sunday. she is copeing quite well with it. She is now up to about 1/2-3/4 of a tabel spoon, once a day. I cant find anywhere when and how much I should be increasing it. Should I start giving the same amount at lunch and dinner as well, or start on veges also. They are in the freezer ready to go and be defrosted.

Well Lucas is back to being a happy critter today thank god!! I think he might have had some belly issues yesterday he has been pushing out tiny pebbles for days!

Blueflower - my MHN said once they hit 6 months you can go full pelt ahead with food so I'd be starting on vegies and even meat soon!! I pretty much went straight into 2 meals a day...cereal and vegies, then the next week added fruit for lunch as well!!

Yeah go for it! She might even eat more!! I gave Lucas mince too last night and he was fine!! Some people say to try one veg at a time but i gave up after awhile it takes too long! In BabyLove she said its not necessary and that is my bible!!!! Lucas has has sweet potato, pumpkin, potato, carrot, zucchini and with fruits apple, pear, banana, mango and peach! He hasn't reacted to anything. Let us know how it goes!

Thanks everyone for answering my question about the solids. I should know what I'm doing because after all I have done it all before but seriously, you forget so much!!! And Lexxen was bottle fed by now so bit different with demand bf. Or is it??? LOL who knows! I just asked cause I realised last night that Oliver has been eating the same amount for over a month now. :doh: They just grow and change so much everyday. I think I will start on the meat in the next couple of weeks. I did look in Lexxen's baby book this morning and he was having fish, chicken and mince by now. Actually I recorded his favourite meal as being apricot chicken. I vaguely remember boiling the chicken maybe and pureeing it with apricot nectar and rice. So I might start with something like that or the mince and vegies.

Nicky - what a horrible week for you and your family. And the Heath Ledger thing would be making everything worse. :hug: As Megan said, your little man will put a smile on your face for sure. Oh and I know what you mean about taking away respect. I hope you can find some peace with it soon and remember to hop on here and let it all out.

Oliver has been asleep now for over 2 hours, gotta love that! I've finished all my housework so I'm off to do some lunch for Lexxen and I. School goes back in just under a week. I gotta say I'm looking forward to that!! Lexxen is too though, he is a little bored I think.

Sara, yeah go for it! I would hold off on anything you have allergies to plus capsicum, strawberries and pineapple as these are the most common to cause problems, but anything else goes as far as vegies and fruit and you must be dying to get stuck into your frozen store! She'll let you know when she's had enough.

Megan, Autie as always been a little demand fed, a little routine. Her day is something like this:
6-7am - BF followed by breakfast about half hour later
10-11am - BF followed by lunch about half hour later
2-3pm - BF, maybe a bit of fruit in her feeder to suck on
5pm - dinner
6pm - BF
6-6.30pm - asleep, then she will wake at least twice during the night for a BF but that is mostly habit and she is usually back asleep five minutes later. I have tried making her dinner after her last BF but she is too tired by then and won't eat, plus she likes to fall asleep feeding so the other way works better for us. Oh, and she also has a little suck before each sleep for the same reason, so really, I have no idea how much milk she actually has! Poor pebbley bottom Lucas :( Glad he's feeling better. Prune juice is good for constipation.

Tracey, your children are beautiful. They certainly are growing fast aren't they. I was just watching a video from the hospital last night - I forgot how small (well, compared to now) and screwed up she was!

All this chat about food is very helpful! I wasnt sure whether i was meant to give Tom food straight after a bottle (which is what i was doing) or if i should wait a little while. I might wait half hour in between like you do Sacha and see how we go with that. I am like Jan, i feel very overwhelmed by this food stuff so it is helpful to see what everyone is doing. Are most people still mixing in their fruit or vegeis with the baby rice? I was thinking i was going to have trouble with Tom's evening feed as he normally feeds at about 7.30, 12, 4.30, 8 and he is way to tired to do anything by his last except drink and go back to sleep so when we get onto the three feeds a day, i think i'll have to do it for the first 3. I have a book which has great recipes but bases the feeding schedule on baby have 5 milk feeds a day.

Megan - glad the bath went well. I had a good laugh at the thought of you bathing with the real estate guy!

I'm really shocked about Heath Ledger too. I feel so sorry for his little girl..

Well, I am really looking forward to tomorrow as my little sister (19 years old) is coming up from Geelong to stay for a few days and i cant wait. We are super close and i cant wait to spend some time with her. Oh, someone is awake - BBL later after i convince him he needs much more sleep than this!!

I also have my other sister coming up from the city with her boyfriend on the weekend and we are going to get together with my other sister and have a good catch up! I am really looking forward to it! I have really found the last week or so quite stressful with Tom's sleeping habits going a bit haywire (hopefully solved by tucking in his sleeping bag to the end of the cot!) and DH hasnt been home that much because they are super busy at work. I'm also finding that because we are both a bit tired we have been really snappy with each other, which is a bit of a shock to the system as we have never been like that in the ten years we've been together. We have always been one of those super lovey dovey couples so i'm not coping too well! I think he might of notice too though because he just called to see how my day was going and he never does this. All this parent business is quite hard isnt it? If its not the babies creating havoc, its the daddies..

I cant belive that at exactly 2.19pm 6 months ago my little girl was brought in to the world!! I still remember that day like it was yesterday, I still remember the pain but the pain was all worth it because I have the most beautiful baby that I love to bits (even when she is screaming and crying!!)

hehehe I timed that pretty well :) Also, happy 6 months to Jan's and Inlove's little bundles of joy!!

Solids, Isn't it really annoying how little info is available on how much etc! I have been doing A LOT of research since we started Noah at 5months and different places say different things so I think it's all up for personal opinion but I'll share some of the info I've seen. (The best info I have seen so far is on the huggies website and in the book Babywise ll which Is a series of parenting books from birth to teenage years rfeally really great books!)

* From 6 months on you can introduce things very quickly

Week 1 -
*Start with baby rice cereal (it provides the iron that they need from 6months) feed at whatever feed time in the day is most convenient Mix 1tablespoon of rice cereal with 4-5tablespoons breastmilk or formula increase the amount of rice cereal to 5-8 tablespoons thickeing the consistency as you go.

Week 2 & 3-
*Rice Cereal Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Week 4 -
*Start introducing Vegies, recommended to try lots of vegies first b4 fruit so that bubs doesn't develop a preference for the sweet stuff.

Recommended diet eventually -

Breakfast - BF OR FF Cereal and Fruits
Lunch - BF OR FF Vegies and Fruit
Dinner -BF OR FF Vegies, cereal and fruit

*Give one extra meal of milk only either for 1st morning feed or last night feed

Recommended guidelines -
*When feeding both vegies and fruit at the same meal always give vegies first
*Give at least 4 BF or FF a day
*Start offering water through out the day when you start solids
*Give the solids at the same time as the BF or FF not 2hrs apart etc, encourages snacking and can put out feeding/sleep patterns
*Offer one breast or half bottle, then solids and then other breast or half of bottle.
*Continue giving at least one rice cereal feed per day up 2 1year because of the iron in it

It also says re: amounts to let bubs decide within reason, I don't think there is any definite answer in regards to how much and if the re is then its very ver y hard to find even if you check the number of servings on jar food some of them are 100g and they say 1serve and some are 200g and they say 1serve. But maybe check out jar food to get some idea (Its a lot more food then I thought a baby would eat at first)

Also a good idea I heard was to cook each vegetable seperate and then put it in icetray to freeze and put them in seperate containers that way when you go to do a mix of a few vegies you can easily take an icecube of several different vegies and bubs doesn't get stuck with the same old dinner every night!

I must admit I haven't really been following this and I have been giving about 2-3 solids per day but seeing as Noah has been eating them for 1month I think it's time to get into it more consistently. They say at the beginning their bodies don't really expect the food so if they miss one day etc it not the end of the world. I definitely recommend the huggies wesite too for more info on food etc.

Jas you should be ok rear facing until 9kg's for almost all seats except those that are rated higher. I am not wanting to see this movie you are all talking about and think I will just reserve us to the fact that they have to turn around at some stage and saftey standards say it's ok from around the 8-9kg mark.

Nicki, sorry to hear about your loss, i lost a cousin a couple of years ago under similar circumstances, he was only 16 and the aniversary is coming up in feb. It is very sad and I'm sorry you have had to go through it as well. Don't feel like you don't fit in and feel free to drop in when ever you like. For me this is my stress reliefe I guess, I don't think so much about me and us, and like to hear about how others are going.

Raels I saw the bellamies ones too and thought how cute toothypegs. tee hee. We've given Xavier rusks too and he has had a little gnaw on them, and once he tossed it aside waste not want not the puppies loved it too, tee hee,
We are still just doing the tea time meal but it wont be long until breakfast is introduced as well. Xavier only has rice yet we have started mixing it with something else. last 4 days was avocado and he was fine with it but didn't like the favor much. tonight I mixed a little banana in with it and he really liked it a lot. soon we will introduce vegies at night and move the cereal to morning.

Jan that news about heath ledger was a bit shocking. I too find the whole food thing a bit daunting, but i'm slowly getting used to it.


Sara the guide I'm using for feeding says for the first 2 weeks to slowly increas but not to exceed 2 tablespoons per day. i use this as a guide only and let my mummy intuition play a part as well.
giving one food at a time is really so that if bubs has an alergy to something you can pinpoint what it is quickly. If you were going to mix foods from the begining i would say high alergy foods eg straberries etc you might want to do one at a time.

Hey everyone!!

We've been away so I've had a read but everyone is too chatty for me to remember everything!! Just quickly about us... we're doing well and had a great time away. We have come to a halt with solids as Oscar just spits the farex back out so I will try again next week. We are off to the MCHN tomorrow so that'll be great to see how much my precious little guy has grown in 2 months. Sleeping is average here still :( So I'll see what the MCHN suggests tomorrow!

Oshani, I don't know what you've tried so if this is just stupid sorry but have you tried watering down the =farex a bit so its closer to milk and/or mixing it with something else some vegies or fruit Noah wasn't all that fond of the farex by itself or maybe try giving him one of the other suggested first foods pumpkin, yogurt, apple etc??

Hi everyone

Boy you ladies are chatty! :) I have had a bit of an up and down day. On the down side, I nearly decided to stop breastfeeding this morning! :cry: Diana has kind of been biting recently and this morning at about 5:30am, she bit me hard first on one nipple, then, when I took it away, on the other. I nearly lost it. I have been feeling pretty down the last few days (I think that pnd is returning - I am looking at getting counselling as I have been feeling really, really low), and felt that the only positive thing I had left, the only thing that I was still doing right, was breastfeeding, and now I was failing at this too. :cry: Fortunately I got through to the ABA helpline and the counsellor was fantastic and helped a lot. So I am still breastfeeding. Yay.

On the up side, Diana did her first 'big girl poo' (i.e. solid - TMI, I know :redface:) in the potty today. :dance: I am so proud of her.

Re solids - we are giving Diana solids 2 -3 times a day, usually one serving of pureed fruit (mango, nectarine, banana, etc), and one of pureed veg (e.g. potato, lentil, avocado - okay those last two aren't really vegetables, but you know what I mean...). She usually eats somewhere between a teaspoon and a tablespoon at each sitting. In regards to meat, we gave her pureed mince and beans once, which she seemed to enjoy the first day, but didn't like reheated the next day (hmm, I think she takes after her dad in not liking leftovers). Today we gave her a bit of mashed meatball, which she seemed to like too.

Tracey - yay that things are going well for you at work. I am currently having the hardest time finding a job! My recruitment agent even dumped me today (she told me to go to another agency as she didn't want to find me a job :( ).

Veronica - Happy 6 months to Avaleigh! :dance: Isn't it amazing how fast time has flown, but also how well you remember her birth?

Jas - thanks for your comments about my wedding photos :) I've just gone through about 500 of them and decided what to put in our wedding album, what a mission!! Thanks for the info about solids. I am only giving Avaleigh BM first in the morning, I might start to introduce some baby cereal soon.
