Hi Everyone,
Just a quickie from me as dinner is alnost done.
Its DH birthday on the weekend, and I have been thinking of a present that Kaetlyn can give him. I would like it to be something special, that he will be able to keep forever. I am just having trouble thinking of something.
Would you all be able to offer some suggestions?
-
Hi all
Just a quicky from me as I am about to go out to dinner with friends. I have been MIA lately - just really busy - you know how it is!!
Sara - what about a zoo membership from Kaetlyn to your DH??? We have a zoo membership and we use it ALL the time and it is something you can all do together or they can do while you are having a well earned rest ;).
Ok gotta run - hello to everyone and I will BBL to read over things and do a proper psot.
take care
Jem

Hey everyone!
Hope everyone had a great long weekend. Last night we went out for dinner which was nice, I think Shane was feeling bad about being out fishing all day after I said to him in the morning that Oscar and I both want to spend time with him. Tonight I am on my own for a while... it is really wierd!! We go out for dinner every Tuesday night to a friends but I have a chest infection so I didn't go tonight but Shane and Oscar have :( I miss Oscar sooo much.
Sara- Not sure about what you Kaetlyn can give her Daddy. I'll have a bit more of a think and let you know ;)
-
Hi everyone:)
Just a quick one from me too! I just got the best news this afternoon....Our finance was approved for our new house!! We now own it, im so happy, now just to get the rest of the paper work out of the way.
I have some question regarding solids..I have decided to try and get ethan to start eating them again, he definately seem's ready as i know he know's how to do it, and he is really grabbing at food (anything) and it goes straight in to his mouth, He really enjoyed his solids before and he just went off them and i dont know why? He had some vege's at lunch time and was getting excited when i had the spoon but then wasnt interested at all!
What do i do?
Is it really important to get him started now?
I know that at 6 months there iron stores start getting low, and i dont want him to get ill over it.
Im probably just worrying too much again, lol.
Will pop back later, oh so much to do and not enough time to do it!! hehe:p
ETA- Sara have you thought about a Personalised Photo Mug? I Had one done for Dh from ethan for fathers day, On one side of the mug is a photo of Ethan and on the other a message saying "happy first fathers day dad, I love you always Ethan" It looks great and Dh loved it and its put where everyone can see it. I got mine through Ebay, so if you use ebay, you pay for the item, then let them know what you want and send them your photo, they will send your a proof of what it will look like, do it and send it! Only downside, it took a week to do it and get it here.
OK gotta go!!
-
Just popping in quickly - will be back later. Thats a great idea Jess for Sara. You can also get things like that done at photo places like Harvey Norman, might also have a quicker time to get it. Hope everyone is well
-
Hey Everyone!
Just popping in early to see if something I uploaded yesterday worked.. and it did.. hehe I should go back to bed!
I uploaded a video of Avaleigh crawling on to my facebook. Sooo cute if you wanna have a look at it!!
-
V, that is very cute, made me got back and watch Charlee's crawling video. She is very clever!! And not to mention very sweet.
-
Sara - what about a nice silver keyring with "Daddy love Kaetlyn" engraved on it.
-
Well, i have been up since 2am! My poor little boy is sick...he woke up screeching and as soon as i got in his room i knew he had pooed! He was absolutely burning up and had really bad runs! His temp got to 38.5 but came down with some panadol. We were up and down all night cos he just wouldn't settle and kept pooing! This morning there was some blood in it so i am a bit worried and are off to the doctor, the poor thing is exhausted and his poor little butt is so red. Will let you know how i go at the docs.
Sara - i think Kaetlyn should give daddy something mummy would enjoy too, like a night in a fancy hotel!!!! He he
-
 Megan. I hope your poor little man is ok. Have you checked his gums? When they are coming through bubbas temps can go up and they can have horrid poos that sting their bottom :( I hope it's nothing serious.
Was the blood streaky in his poo?
-
Hey Jessikah,
re the food - the handout that I got from my MCHN is really good, in that it uses the words "educational diet" in the example of feeding that it contains. I've taken this to mean that the food they get for the next couple of months is really just about getting them used to different tastes and an addition to their daily routine (ie meals), without being overly concerned about the nutritional input from the food itself. Even a little bit of rice cereal each day will probably cover his iron needs, and it's easily mixed with anything that's pureed. My SIL (who has 3 kids) reckons that the first 4-6 weeks are messy & don't involve that much food being eaten, but lots of food being spread around IYKWIM, but that with consistent practice it gets easier & they get more interested. You also might have a kid that is more interested in feeding himself with his fingers. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think it sounds like you're on the right track if you're giving him opportunity to eat & introducing various things, and don't stress too much about it all.
Megan - poor Lucas & poor you. Hope the dr was helpful and hope that Lucas settles back down for you quickly. Hopefully it's teething or something easily identifiable like that.
-
Oh poor little Lucas and hugs to you Megan. I hope he gets better realy soon, poor little guy. Oh many many many hugs to the too of you. How did you go at the quack? Is it his teeth or a bug? Get well soon little Lucas :(
-
Thanks for your suggestions re: present. I went with one that I know will still be around for years to come.
I was thinking about the mug, but while I was looking, I saw that you can now get prints on canvas, So I have ordered a big one, ad It arrives on sat morning at the shops. It was way more expensive than I was hopeing to spend, but I will make it from the both of us.
This pic is from our picnic on monday, where Kaetlyn is laughing, and they are going to do it in sepia for me. It is really cute.
Megan, I hope your little man is better and they find out what was wrong with him.
-
Can I ask how much and how the big is Sara? I am looking at getting one done but have no idea where to order it from or how much they roughly are!!
-
Great idea Sara. For DH's birthday i got one done for him - this will sound very boring - of a beautiful photo he had taken of an old bridge around here. It looks great and everyone always asks if it is a painting or photo. He loved it. We also got one done for mum and dad for xmas of us 5 kids - just from a photo DH had taken (he is a keen photographer) and it was changed to black and white - it looks really good. I want to get one done of Tom but he is very difficult to get a good photo of - he goes dopey when a camera comes out.
Dani - we got ours done at the Kodak shop. I cant remember the sizes but the one we got for mum and dad was about $150-ish i think and it is quite big. I think you can get them done at Harvey Norman too.
OK - off to marinate some chicken for dinner. Megan - i am thinking of you and poor little Lucas. I hope he is ok. BBL
-
Dani- It was at a kodak shop as well. I got the 12x16 for 89.95. BigW do them as well, but take 10 working days- and they are cheaper. Not sure about the qulity though. I know harvey norman do them as well. The thing that made mine more expensice was that they are printed at their main lab processing, and they needed to express post it back to me by sat for his birthday. I am so excited I can't wait!!
-
hi everyone! wow you girls can talk
DH gave me one of our wedding photos done on canvas for our first wedding anniversary and its fantastic! Everyone comments on it!
EXCITING NEWS!!!! Link has started rolling over!!! He wont stop now he thinks hes soooooooooo smart. Im so proud of him my little man is growing up :)
olimoo i know it sounds bad but Link liked being on his tummy looking up at the TV (its pretty close to the floor) or watching the dogs run past him... he just wasn't interested in playing with me:rolleyes: Good luck!
Take care everyone

:crying::crying::crying: I think Autie's just had a night terror. She woke up screaming a truly awful scream and when I picked her up, she got worse and started thrashing. Took ages to calm her down even on the boob. What a horrible, horrible thing it was. I can still hear her sobbing in her sleep.
-
HI all,
I'm really annoyed because a couple of times recently my posts have dissapeared.
Oh well,
I can't remember what everyone has said and there are about 3 pages since i've managed a visit.
happy 6 months to all these bubbas.
Raels, Xavier used to hate his tummy heaps and nathan started playing with hi on our bed. He would get a pillow and prop Xavier up on his tummy and then Nathan would lift his head up really high so xavier would follow him up and raise his head. Xavier thought it was a great game, and daddy was playing with him!!
sara, it might be a bit late by now but lots of guys llike a stubby holder with their bub on it. Sounds a little un'classy but if he uses a stubby holder he will see his little angel every time. there is something that my mum got given from my sisters when they were in kinda, there is this poem about footsteps, can't remember how it goes but then there were little painted foot prints on it too. Things like that are cute.
jessikah, try going back the farex, as it's very gentle on the tummy. I can't remember if you were still bfing or not. but I think the sweetness of ebm helps. If your using formula try mixing it with that, and i you think that's not appetising enough try some apple/pear or Xaviers new favorite banana mixed in with it. Dead set the banana makes it smell like banana cake. I think that especially at the start your better to give less and offer more milk if he's still hungry and then gradually increase it.
megan, I hope lucas is feeling better. It sounds like he had the runs. I hope it's nothing serious and he's starting to get better.
Sacha, autie will be ok, I can't count the amount of times Xavier has woken screaming in terror.
Nicki, I hear Lachlan and xavier met the other day. How cute.
Ok well compared to everyone else here, we do very little in the baby department.
it looks like we are getting teeth and solids are ging well but in no hurry just one step at a time here. xavier is on the verge of dropping a feed, he has increased time inbetween feeds to about 5 hours during the day.
Long weekend we had our nieces second birthday on Saturday, my dad came to visit on sunday and we went visiting friends on Monday, so Xavier was around little people all weekend.
Well best be off, it's late, and I still haven't washed all the bottles and things for tomorrow.
Night all
-
Hi everyone
just a really quick post to say hi
i know rabbit photo do the canvas prints as well I get all my photos done there and they're really good quality
-
Good morning!
Happy six months to all the 1/2 birthday babies!
Megan - I hope Lucas is feeling much better and it isnt anything serious.
Sara - the canvas print is a great idea. I bet he loves it!
Bec - life sounds busy for you! How have you been finding work and how is the expressing going? How far in advance before going back to work did you start to stock up on EBM?
Nay - yay on Link rolling - its is very exciting when they do something new isnt it!!
Sacha - how is Autie after her night terror - poor little baby and poor you having to hear her.
Dani - I hope you are over your nasty chest infection.
gee it sounds like we have a few sickes about the place :(.
Mel - hello and how are the kids going? Has Charlize gotten over her bug?
Hello to everyone else - hope you and your babes are well.
Me - Charlotte has a cold and she is so stuffed up and is a bit sad at the moment so I am just hoping she can get rid of it asap as she just hasnt been herself. The boys have had a cold as well so I guess it goes without saying that she is going to get it. Charlotte is sitting so well and is commando crawling backwards and is getting up on her hands and knees and rocking but no forward crawling yet. I seriously want her to take ages to start crawling properly as chasing three around will be insane - but I think it is going to happen very quickly! Not much else is new - sounds kind of boring LOL!! All of our weekly activities have started up again now that school is back so our weeks are back to being very full - kindergym, elc, playgroup.
I had best run as they boys are wanting their breakfast.
Take care
Jem
-
Oh Sacha - Oliver did this exact thing last night!! It was awful. About half an hour after he fell asleep he woke with this horrible scream and I couldn't settle him. He wouldn't take the breast at all (which always settles him) and he just screamed and screamed. I thought he might have been bitten by something cause I couldn't work out what it would be. He's never done anything like this before, and when he finally did go back to sleep in my arms everytime I put him back in his cot he would scream again. It was nearly two hours later when he was finally back in bed. Poor thing. To make matters worse DF was away for the night!
-
Thanks for all your well wishes! Looks like gastro but we havo to go back to doc today. She sent his poo off to the lab! How gross! Much better night last night but he is still very clingy and his poor little bot bot! Will report back and read up later! x
-
Hands up if you have a night terror baby.. T woke up screaming at 4.15am - well he didnt even wake, he was just hysterical. Once he had calmed down, he was fully awake and stayed that way until 6.30am this morning. Just got back into bed and DH's alarm went off. I am exhausted :(.
-
Em - Olivia sometimes wakes in the middle of the night, like she has had a dream, I just give her a cuddle and she sinks into me holding my waist sobbing...its so sad but once she calms down she goes back to sleep....she has only done this a handful of times though.
Sorry I haven't been around much, have been in NZ and then got back and had SO much washing and baby food making to do....today I am walking around the house bored :)
I haven't had time to read everyones bits but will do so today.
Does anyone have their babies on 3 feeds yet? That is 3 solids and 3 milk? I want to start Olivia on that, maybe tomorrow and see how she goes.
Does anyone use the organic jars of food? I do sometimes but make most things but I have a few organic stage 2 and wondering if anyone has used them? I want to try a few on her but some of tomato through them, only little bits and I haven't given her tomato yet so I am not sure. I also bought her some baby yogghurt to try.
Well Olivia is awake so must get her up, she probably did a big one in her nappy.....GREAT LOL!!
-
RE: Rabbit photo canvas - they are SO good, we got 2 done for our parents for Christmas and the look SO good.
-
Em - what is up with that? Our babies doing it on the same night, and Sacha's as well. Has Tom done it before? It freaked me out a little cause Oliver has never done this! He is the most calm and placid little baby, hardly ever cries and when he does I can always settle him. Last night I felt useless. His little voice is really hoarse today too from all the screaming, but he is he happy self again. Hope that doesn't happen too often.
Flossie - Oliver is on 3 solid feeds a day now but is demand bfed so probably has between 8 and 10 milk feeds a day. Some of these are quick 5 minute ones. I have tried the organic jar food but only in the fruit. I have been giving him rice cereal for breakfast, fruit or yoghurt for lunch and vegies for dinner. Planning on offering some meat very soon.
Someone was asking about playpens not long ago, sorry can't remember who??? Just saw one in the kmart catalogue for $80.
Megan - hope your little man gets better really soon and I hope it doesn't go through the rest of the family.
Well I'd better run, having visitors today and need to clean up a bit.
Have a great day mummies and bubbies.
Raels xo
-
Raels, Em - I did some research last night and the night terrors (as opposed to nightmares) usually happen with an hour or two of going to sleep and can be caused from (amongst other things) overtiredness, which I'm sure is the case for us as she didn't have her arvie nap. The saddest thing is they can't be comforted and if you try it can actually prolong it :( Such a horrible feeling to think you are actually part of their terror when they're in that state, and you're better off just leaving them. My DH is away atm too Raels, and just after this episode I heard an unfamiliar noise somewhere else in the house and had to do the full check. All in all, it was quite an eerie atmosphere last night.
Megan - Hope all goes well with little sore bottom and he is feeling better today
Lis, Autumn is on breakfast, lunch and dinner plus BF about 6 times a day/night. I buy the organic fruit puree for mixing with cereal but haven't tried anything else. Meatwise, she has had mince and will be having chicken this week. I bought the baby yoghurt to try today too!
Jem, how's Charlotte feeling? At least she'll be building up that immune system. Good luck with the not-crawling thing! LOL Gone are the days I could put Autie on the study floor while I did a post... right now she has found a bunch of DH's maps on the shelf and testing them out as a food source.
Anyone doing/done the baby led weaning? We've had such a good run with introducing solids I thought I might give it a try.
-
Sacha - my niece gets night terrors (she is 7) and they are horrible. My sister has found that she doesn't get them on school hols so they were worried she might be getting bullied at school. She absolutely loves school so they thought it was strange and looked into it - and realised it was because when she is at school its go go go all day, then comes home, goes outside and runs around flat out (they have a farm) so her mind has no chance to wind down and she gets overtired. Its freaky when she has them but as you said, nothing can be done to comfort her and she doesnt remember having them.
Everyone seems to be busy making baby food - what does everyone have stored up in the freezer? At the moment, i only have pumpkin and carrot for my vegies and some nectarines and bananas. i went to the supermarket yesterday and got one of those little tubs of nectarines and when i got it home they were all bruised and very un-appertising but i couldnt be bothered taking them back so i steamed the skins off and pureed them, but i might wait a while before i give them - little bit to sweet maybe? The only other thing i have given is apple, but i just buy that in the tins. Is everyone still mixing the food in with the baby rice or giving it as is? One more question - how long did you wait before giving meat?
-
Hey everyone!
What a cold and wet day here today *brrr* I had MG this morning, so Oscar and I ventured out in the rain. Otherwise we have just had a lazy day, which is nice :)
Nay- WOO HOO on Link rolling over! How exciting... there is no stopping him now ;)
Flossie- Welcome back! I'm hearing you on the washing... and we haven't even been away! I have Oscar on 2 solids a day and he is still having 4-5 bottles. Oscar has only been on solids for a few weeks so I am still just introducing things and a lot of the time he doesn't eat much. So I guess I'm not much help.
Em- In the freezer I have carrot (Oscar hates them though) and pumpkin. I need to do a big cook up though so I'm not cooking for him every day
I can't remember what everyone else wrote :hello: to everyone else!! I'll BBL :)
-
Just quickly Lucas is a grizzle guts and doc is worried about dehydration so i have been trying anything to get water and hydrolyte into him, i even mixed the hydrolyte with rice cereal, is that child abuse!!??
-
Sure is Megan ;) Just kidding!!! Any way you can get it into him then do it hun
-
Oh Megan, I know the stress of an unwell bub. You do what you have to. Autie really likes sucking wet washers, maybe it's worth a try for Lucas.
Em, Autie's been on solids almost two months and I have given her veges without cereal right from the start. I buy pureed fruit to mix with cereal because she's not much into sweet things so the fresh fruit is not a favourite. In the freezer I have potato, pumpkin, sweet potato, broccoli, spinach and zucchini. I have just introduced meat in the last week - mince and chicken cut up fine, we aren't pureeing anymore.
-
Just a quickie but I will be back
Em in the freezer, I have, Carrots, pumpkin, sweet potato, Zuchini, Pear and peaches. So far am really only using the pears
-
Megan - if you are really worried about dehydration, try putting some of the hydrolyte into a syringe, lying him down and dribble it down his throat. Stroke his throat so it makes him swallow. We have to do this with T's reflux medication. I am a big believer of Hydrolyte - i lived on it when i was pregnant and it is good for hangovers (so i have heard anyway..)
Thanks for the food info girls! Gives me some good ideas
-
Thanks Em, might give that a go! ATM he is taking it off a spoon but not out of a bottle...weird!! I never added the baby rice to anything either and lucas has had sweet pot, pot, pumpkin, zucchini, carrot...and lots of fruits (mainly jars i am slack!!) and some yoghurt! I have given a bit of mince and chicken too! Still no idea what i am doing though, just winging it really
Sacha - Lucas loves sucking face washers too...doesn't take much to entertain them does it.
Well i am feeling a bit strange in the belly so am a bit scared Lucas' bug might have moved on!!
Oh and how could i forget, Lucas finally rolled from back to front, only twice but hey its a start, and he can sit up now too!! What a legend!!
-
Hey Everyone!!
Its so much fun having a baby crawling!! hehe Avaleigh follows me everywhere and gets a little upset when I go too quickly. LOL So I always need to poke my head round the corner so she knows where she is going. She may be able to crawl but she so wants to walk. LOL
Flossie - I give Avaleigh 2 solid feeds a day and am slowly starting the introduce cereal in the morning, well I give it whenever I remember! I am still on 5 breastfeeds a day, but today it will be 7 cause she is on the move now and gets hungrier
Em - in my freezer I have.. pumpkin, carrot, corn, sweet potato, potato, pear, peach and apple. I have parsnip that I need to do to still.
Sacha - how does Autumn find the food not pureed?? Avaleigh has been on solids for 2 months too and I am still pureeing and finding that if there is a little chunk, she will gag on it.. How are you planning to do the baby led weaning? I got no idea hey!!
Dani - I cant believe you think it is cold in the middle of summer! Strange weather..
I think I have asked this before, but when can babies start having cows milk?? I am planning to go from breast milk straight to cows milk (wouldnt be bothered with the formula) and am wondering how much longer I have with breastfeeding. Mum and I were talking about this yesterday and she said that the babies at the children's hospital are on milk at 3 months, so its really strange how we dont start until 1 year or whatever it is and the babies in hospitals are starting at 3 months!
Its my birthday on Sunday!! We are going out to dinner on Saturday night. I cant wait. We are going to a place about 1 hours drive from our house but they have some huge fish tanks in there so it should be worth it!
Anyway, better go.. Hopefully Avaleigh will wake up soon (this is her third sleep today - crawling takes it out of them!) so we can go get some dinner and do the foood shopping
-
V- That is so gorgeous that Avaleigh follows you around!! Oscar it still trying to figure out how this whole crawling things works!! I know.. crazy Melbourne weather! It's nice and sunny now though Go figure! Happy Birthday for Sunday if I forget! Sounds like you will have a great dinner!
Megan- I hope you're not getting it :( That is so exciting about Lucas rolling over and sitting up. Clever little guy :)
Not much else is happening here. I am waiting for Shane to get home so we can have dinner. Oscar is asleep so I have got a bit of cleaning done! YAY! I'm not happy though.. I have to go into town tomorrow (1/2 hrs drive) because mine and Shane's phones keep playing up :( Shane tried to take them in today but they needed the paperwork because last time the girl didn't update all the info or something?!? They should have the paperwork there  So anyway, we have a Myer voucher that we got for Xmas that I can spend so at least my trip will be a little fun ;)
-
Yey Lucas! He's obviously strong Megan, if he can sit on his own. Hope you are pushing away that bug with lots of positive thoughts.
V - It's my understanding that all health professionals recommend cow's milk as a drink only after 12m. I can't imagine a hospital giving it to them before then - maybe it is formula? Autie has been quite good with the non-pureed stuff. I still mash it, but I make sure to leave some lumps and that whatever it is, it is soft, not hard lumps. I started with normal mashed potato and pumpkin. There is some great info on baby led weaning if you just do a google search. Basically, it says that pureed food is traditional because babies used to be introduced to solids at a much earlier age and didn't have the head control and tongue movements for real food. But as they are now saying 6m, they should be able to cope with soft finger foods and even normal adult variations of meals without too much trouble right from the start. I gave Autie a piece of avocado and sweet potato today that she didn't have too much problem with, just a few small gags at first. Then tonight I gave her a broccoli floret steamed real soft. It was hilarious. She kept putting it up to her lips and then shaking her head and putting it back down for ages so I just let her keep playing with it and about 10mins later she put it in her mouth and sucked away without any problem at all. You have to supervise well of course. Apparently, second and third babies are often accidently introduced to solids this way because of older siblings. I'd love to know if anyone here has had that happen, and how it went for you.
-
Em - was just on Facebook, Tom is so cute and the photos of you and your sisters are ace!!
